Chapter 12
AN: Hey guys! I'm back before Christmas! I recently had some time, so I hopped on my computer to get the thoughts flowing out for you guys. I want to make a quick shout out to Suzuran Kishigane. I appreciate the Idea you threw my way, however, I currently have plenty of work on my hands right now. Maybe after I finish one of the stories I'm currently working on, I might take you up on that idea. Anyways, let's get on with the story!
Wizengamot Chamber, London, England November 28, 1992
Caster sat in her seat, waiting for the trial to begin. She knew the man to be tried, one Gilderoy Lockheart, was not going to be escaping time in Azkaban. Her runes of truth would see to that. Her thoughts were instead on the influx of letters she and the twins at Hogwarts had gotten from France. Having Jeanne and Jealter state who they were was giving her a headache. Many French families, specifically pure-blood families, were sending Marriage contracts to trap the twins into marrying their sons. The fact that Vivian is the actual Heiress of Clan D'Ark due to having been named so by Jeanne was beside the point. it was a good thing she had placed a redirection rune on all her children to have those types of letters sent straight to the fireplace at home for kindling.
Amelia cleared her throat. "I call everyone to order. As you may have heard, Gilderoy Lockheart was arrested and removed from his position of DADA professor at Hogwarts earlier this month due to various crimes." She paused due to the uproar from the gallery, specifically the witches, before casting a booming sound from her wand. "Be silent or I will have you removed from this gathering for interfering with a legal proceeding. As I was saying. These crimes are fraudulence and mis-use of the Obliviation charm. Bring in the accused."
Many of the witches it the gallery section were crying to see a man they idolize being dragged into the chamber in magic-suppressing cuffs.
Augusta Longbottom banged her gavel to bring everyone to attention. "This trial will now commence. Gilderoy Lockheart, how do you plead?"
Gilderoy looked Madame Longbottom in the eye as best as he could. "I plead Innocent."
"The plea of innocence is noted and recorded. Madame Bones, you may proceed with the questioning." Madame Longbottom nodded to Amelia.
"Lockheart, how did you accomplish the feats you wrote about in your books?" Amelia had to keep herself from smiling.
"I just found the people that actually did the acts, had them tell me how they did it, and then obliviate them of the memory of doing it, and of meeting me." Lockheart said, before he realized that he spoke the truth instead of the lie he had come up with to try and worm his way out of time in Azkaban.
"And how was it you managed to get caught for your crimes?" Amelia had to make sure that those in the chamber knew better than to try to be above the law.
"I had failed to pay attention to just who my fellow professors were at Hogwarts. One of them is a goddess of the underworld. When I tried to clam the defeat of the monster of the Chamber of Secrets, I thought I had a free ticket to more fame as the one who actually slayed the beast was dead. I failed to realize that my fellow professor could sense when her adopted sister had died after the beast was slain." He knew he was in deep water now, but the runes around the room made it impossible to charm and lie his way out of this time. "When I was callled out on claiming the now departed girl's spell, one of her sisters called me out on my falsities, and challenged me to a duel. My hubris in being a showman got the better of me, and I ended up being challenged by the girl that called me out. I lost a short time after."
Caster stood up and cleared her throat. "I would like to assert that he left out that he tried to run away from the duel my daughter had challenged him to. As it was a duel of honor, even attempting to flee would have cost him his magic."
"While I will commend your daughter on capturing this fraud, it is reported that she used a muggle weapon to defeat him. may we get clarification on why?" Augusta Asked as she already knew what the others were going to vote, even without this revelation.
"Jeanne's more proficient in light-based magic, but much like my other daughters, her magic would have been too much for Mr. Lockheart here to defend against. She knew that she would have to use her polearm to beat him, and thusly did so." Caster walked to the center of the room and made a pillar of ice. "As an example for this esteemed body, I have made this pillar of ice. If I were send this at someone, it would most definitely take their life. Jeanne had to aim to distract rather than attack as her light spells are able to harm others. My daughters and myself all have magic that powerful."
"I know you well enough to know you didn't want to go that far into detail, but I thank you for doing so." Augusta Longbottom regained her composure as Caster dismissed the pillar of ice. "All who find the defendant not guilty, light your wands blue. All who vote guilty, light them red." All wands in the Wizengamot lit up red. " Gilderoy Lockheart, this court finds you guilty of all charges. By order of this court, you are sentenced to thirty years in the new prison built by the ICW at Numengard. Your crimes don't warrant being sent to Azkaban. You are also hereby stripped of your Order of Merlin. This trial is over."
As Lockheart was dragged away by the Aurors, Caster and Amelia shared a look with Augusta. They caught the fraud by sheer happenstance, but dealing with the ones that escaped proper punishment from the previous war was going to take some time.
Hospital Wing, Hogwarts Scottland, England November 28, 1992
Vivian sat next to Sakura's bedside as she organized the notes she had ben taking for the purplette. Her sisters stayed near the door as they knew she wouldn't need their help for the next few minutes. Vivian had made a point of coming before and after classes, and since it was a Saturday, there were no classes that day. As Vivian was organizing the notes by class and date, the doors to the Hospital Wing burst open as Draco Malfoy and Neville Longbottom ran in. Jeanne and Jealter were about to summon their weapons when they saw the two boys in their school robes. Draco knowing where to find Vivian was a given since he was one of her friends, and Neville is her God-brother, despite that he only joins her group for study sessions very seldomly. What really caught their attention was the glass bottle in Neville's hand.
"Why are you bursting into the Hospital Wing like that?" Madam Pomrfey chided them. "This is not a playground, you two."
"W-we know, M-madam P-Pomfrey" Neville gasped out, trying to catch his breath. "But we had to get here as fast as possible."
Draco stood up straighter as he looked from the matron of the Hospital Wing to Vivian. "We got an important package through a round about means." Draco started to explain. "I know that my father has effectively shut down any way of getting outside help to Hogwarts. I had to get Neville to send a letter from me to his Grandmother."
"Draco asked her to procure some Mandrake Draught and send it to Molly Weasley. The letter also detailed that the twins would know how to smuggle it in to get it to me, so she needed to get it to them on a Hogsmead weekend." Neville took over the explanation. "We finally got the draught. We can unpetrify Sakura."
The second Neville said that, Jealter was already moving, taking the bottle from Neville's hand and throwing it to Vivian. Vivian caught it, opening the bottle and pouring some of it into Sakura's open mouth. While Madam Pomfrey wanted to stop them, she knew the silver-haired girl would have stopped at nothing to see her friend healed. As they waited for the draught to take effect, Pomfrey took the rest of the bottle, and carefully got what she could into Mrs. Norris's mouth.
After about thirty minutes of waiting, Sakura's body started to relax, and she breathed out a breath she had no idea she was holding. As she slowly breathed in and out, her eyes fluttered as they refocused, letting her adjust to the light of the room. Rubbing her eyes, she slowly sat up, before she felt a pair of arms wrap around her. The feeling of metal armor pressing against her, the sight of silver locks falling into place, all told her who was hugging her. Sakura wrapped one arm around Vivian, and patted her head with the other.
"Good morning, Eu." Sakura spoke softly, before looking to Jeanne and Jealter. "How long have I been asleep, and why am I in the Hospital Wing?"
"It's good to see you up, Blossoms" Jealter grinned. "Did your nap feel good?"
"Don't mind her, Sakura." Jealter walked over as Pomfrey checked both Sakura and Mrs. Norris. "You've been petrified since Halloween, hence why you're here. What's the last thing you remember?"
"I remember talking with Sir Nicholas, when I spotted a pair of yellow eyes through him. After that, I felt my whole body go stiff, and everything went black. Next thing I remember is waking up here in the Hospital Wing." Sakura explained, still petting Vivian's head. It was then she notices Rengokuken. "Why is Kita's blade here? Is she nearby?"
Madam Pomfrey looked out the window. "Ms. Potter's sister, Kita, Slayed the basilisk that put you in here on November 15. The battle also cost Kita her life."
"Kita used what magic she had left after the fight to send Rengokuken to Vivian, transferring her skills to Vivian in the process. The next day, Gilderoy Lockheart tried to claim her battle as his own, and I challenged him to a Duel of Honor in a bit of rage." Jeanne took over.
"Ano, aren't you the least likely to do that, Jeanne?" Sakura was confused.
"Don't get her wrong, Sakura." Draco spoke up. "Jeanne had every right to be mad at that fraud for trying to take credit for stopping the basilisk. Though you have credit for being the first person to survive looking a basilisk in the eyes."
"She is lucky to be alive, since the stare of a basilisk is fatal." Madam Pomfrey interjected. While you have a clean bill of health, I'm going to have to ask you to not do anything too strenuous. Your body has been stiff for the last month, and you haven't moved at all in that time. If you have any stiffness later, come back here immediately." The matron then left the group, returning to her office.
Sakura turned back to Vivian. "Eu, would you mind letting me get up? I'd like to go to the Great Hall to get something to eat." She asked her best friend as Vivian stood up and took hold of her hand, helping the violette to her feet.
"It is almost time for lunch, but our first stop should be to see the Headmistress. Even though you are hungry, she needs to know that the victims of the basilisk attack are healed." Vivian signed out. Neville and Draco looked at her confused.
"Eu, please remember that Neville and Draco are part of the conversation too, and don't understand sign language." Jeanne replied as Vivian lowered her head a little as she looked at the two boys.
"Please, don't bow your head, Vivian." Neville spoke up. "We know you mean well, and that most of our group knows how to understand it. Hannah has been teaching both myself and Prof. Sprout when we help her in the greenhouses. I just can't keep up with how fast you sign things out."
"Same for me." Draco laughed a bit. "I have a hard time remembering the signs since i can only practice sign language when I'm with our friends. My father is an absolute ponce and would never allow the use of something he sees as beneath him. I know my mother is interested in learning it, but can't until we can do something about my father."
"Ano, we should probably head out of the Hospital wing before Madam Pomfrey shoos us out with a few stinging hexes." Sakura took a few cautious steps. As the group made their way to the door, Vivian felt a large amount of prana being exerted in a different room in the castle.
History of Magic Classroom, Hogwarts Scottland, England Nov. 28, 1992
Being one of the oldest beings in the castle, Eri was uniquely suited to being the teacher for the subject of history. Being able to tell all the histories of the world thanks to the spirits in her domain made it too easy. the only downside to being a teacher in her books... The parchment-work. She wished she could just give lectures, but she knew that her students wouldn't truly learn anything if she didn't assign homework and book-work for them to complete. This is the problem she currently finds her self in, grading their work. From all the grading she's done, she has noticed a few of her students seem to be having issues.
She looked at the papers as she thought of her two main strugglers, Luna Lovegood and Ginevra Weasely. Upon asking her fellow teachers, she has come to realize they are falling behind in all their classes. Luna was a bit of an odd one, as she always had her head seemingly in the clouds. She had to ask the girl last week to stay behind as she didn't have any of her school supplies... or her shoes for that matter... Learning that the girl's things were disappearing was worrying. Having Selene Lovegood's spirit come to her while talking with Luna and finding out her daughter was ejected from the Ravenclaw common rooms on a nightly basis was very disconcerting. After a talk with Prof. Flitwick, Selene pointed out the main culprits, and Luna was given a room connected to Eri's as an added precaution.
With her school supplies still missing, the other teachers have been keeping plenty of extra quills and parchment for her. Her heavier robes were still missing, so they let her carry a blanket with her to classes. On an unintended side note, Luna started to mesh into Vivian's circle of friends. The odd first year having a certain charm that made the group feel almost whole.
Her other concern was currently on her way to the HoM classroom with her brothers Fred and George. Ginny, as she'd learned the young witch preferred to be called, was her biggest worry. Every class, Eri could sense the dark magic coming off of the girl. Ginny's always tired appearance was a good tell of possession, but she couldn't figure out how and why. Eri noticed her change from the start of the year. Ginny had been a bright and lively girl, but as the year progressed, it was like the girl was slowly losing that. There were times she'd pass the girl in the hall on weekends, and see her writing in a small black book, but the next day, it would look like a little more color had drained from the girl's face.
Fred and George were just as worried when Eri pointed it out to the two of them, and agreed to bring their sister to heras a way of helping her. They remember losing their little brother due to the machinations of Albus Dumbledore. They refused to lose their sister to the schemes of another.
Eri was brought out of her thoughts when she heard a knock on the door. "Come in." She hollered out, not looking up from the papers of her fifth year students. 'I'll have to give Cedric credit. He is the top student from Hufflepuff in his year.' she idly thought. As she heard the door close, she looked up to see Fred and Ginny in front of her, and George having closed the door. "Ah, Fred, George, and Miss Weasely. Thank you for coming."
"It's okay to call me Ginny, Prof. Eri." Ginny spoke, though from how her eyes looked, Eri had a feeling that she wasn't the one in control.
"If that is what you would prefer, Ginny, I can do so when not in class." Eri smiled as she discreetly motioned fro Fred and George to move to the side of the room. "I know you would probably prefer to be playing games with friends right now, but i needed to talk to you about your grades in my class." 'It's worse than I thought. I'll need to get her possesser to reveal how they are doing it, and who they are.'
"I thought my grades were good." 'Ginny' spoke as 'she' tilted her head to the left. "As far as I knew, i was doing the work right."
"You were, until you tried to hide the fact through an illusion that you signed a different name at the top of one of your homework assignments." Eri lied, hoping her bluff would work.
"Tch. I'd thought I did well to hide that." 'Ginny' Growled. "How did you notice that when none of the other teachers did?!"
Eri introduced her left hand to her forehead. 'I honestly can't believe they bought that.' She refocused on the person infront of her. "I didn't. You told me so... Just now... I was bluffing, and you fell for it. Now, onto the real reason. Who are you?"
'Ginny' was stunned for a moment, realizing they were played. "You think you can make a fool of me and get away with it? My ancestor left behind the basilisk so those who came after him could finish his noble work of purging the unworthy from this world. I preserved my teenage self in a diary so I can finish what I started fifty years ago." 'Ginny then wrote in flames in front of her. Tom Marvolo Riddle. With a single wave of a wand, the letters rearranged themselves. I am Lord Voldemort.
"Fred, George, take cover. Leave this petulant child controlling your sister to me." Eri summoned her lance, as she dodged to the side as green light flew past her.
Tom Riddle was angry at being exposed before he could fully steal the girl's life force to create his own body, instead being forced to use his host to fight. Not caring about his host at all, he started tossing killing curses as his target dodged. The Blonde infront of him, wannabe goddess in his mind, was stopping him from rising back to his rightful place. Seeing he couldn't hit her, he turned to where the twin brothers were, and cast to kill one of them. Eri saw this, launched a conjured golden spear towards Tom, ripping the pocket on Ginny's robe that held the diary, while diving infront of a killing curse for the twins.
"Professor!?" The twins cried in surprise.
"Yes. Fall beneath the might of the rightful ruler of the Magical world." Tom Grinned, until he saw Eri stand up. "Impossible. another person that can survive the killing curse?"
"It seems you forgot that I am a goddess, Tom" Eri dusted her dress off, revealing that Tom's curse hit the cage on her hip. "Allow me to fully introduce myself to you, so you might understand where you messed up. I am the Mesopotamian Goddess of the Underworld, Ereshkigal. Death and the realm of the dead are my Domain. You have cheated me, Tom, and I will not be as merciful to those that cheat me as I am to those that come to me at their proper end." She started to move forward and Tom started throwing more dark curses at her, all of them splashing harmlessly against her. Once she was at the Diary, she stabbed it with her spear. "Leave this girl and school at once, Tom. you are not welcome in the land of the living." Hearing Tom's scream as the diary bled ink, she caught Ginny as she collapsed.
"Professor, is she okay?" George asked as he and his twin ran over. "What about you, Prof. Are you alright?" Fred asked at the same time.
"I'M fine, boys. It would take spells a whole lot stronger than those to harm me. As for your sister, she will be alright, but we will need to get her to the Hospital Wing to see just how close we were to losing her from Tom's Possession of her." Eri lifted the girl in her arms, dismissing her spear. "I would appreciate it if you didn't mention what happened here to any of the other students. We don't need them panicking over Tom's attempted revival."
"Was that really the spirit of You-Know-Who controlling Gin-Gin.?" "And Why do you refer to him as Tom?" The boys asked.
"That it was, and his real name is Tom Riddle, the half-blood son of the squib, Merope Gaunt, and the muggle, Tom Riddle Sr. Now, could one of you open the door? We can talk more on the way to the Hospital Wing." Eri motioned as she went to head towards the door to her classroom, and a rather large headache.
AN: Whew, that took a while to finish. Not gonna lie, I've been working on this chapter since Dec. 30th, and I just finished it a little bit ago. I had many spots that I had to re write because they didn't feel right, and I hope I didn't do too bad on this one. While I know that with the diary dealt with, the major plot point of year two is over, but there is still one last plot point I haven't gotten to that will bet the end point of year two, and the main point of the next chapter.
Well, I hope you enjoyed this chapter, and I will have the next one up just as soon as possible. Keep being awesome, you guys!
