Harry Potter and the Supreme Animagus Chapter 2
About the Natural Behaviour of the British Changeling
"That was really strange. I never, ever heard of an Animagus turning into another person, much less a green one." Sirius mused. "I'll have to read a few old books about Animagii transformations, but if that has happened before, I think that wizard or witch would be famous."
Harry passed a hand through his hair, making an even bigger mess. "I just hope I won't grow big and angry, and smash things up…"
Sirius looked at him fir a long moment, "Lily told me about that… something about an Incredible Hunk?"
"Hulk, yeah. It's the only green guy I know of, but that was a telly programme. Not real, just make up and theater."
"I'm pretty sure she said it was a comedic book. No idea what would be funny about that."
Harry shrugged. Suddenly, his face lit up. "Hey, do you have a camera? If I changed into some character, maybe Hermione will know."
"She likes those books?"
"Well, not her, but her dad does. If she doesn't know the character, her dad maybe will. He is as avid a collector of comic books as she is of text books!"
"Really?" Sirius began to pull stuff from drawers until he found an old magical camera. "Great, it even has a few pictures left!"
"Great, let me change." Harry's face twisted for a moment, and before Sirius astonished eyes, the boy grew taller, older, and greener. The lightning bolt scar disappeared, and the hair combed itself.
Minutes later, they had several moving pictures of Harry's alternate form.
They put them in an envelope, and Harry set quill to parchment
"Hi, Hermione.
I have a little mystery I think you can help me with, Can you or your dad identify the character in the pictures? I think it is from some comic book or telly show, but I can't remember the name. It's not really important, but I'm very curious, and I would really appreciate if you could tell me about him. Thanks!
Your friend, Harry."
Sirius read the letter to make sure there was nothing compromising. After his approval, Harry put the parchment in the envelope and called Hedwig.
"Hedwig, I want you to carry this letter to Hermione, please wait for her answer."
The snowy owl nodded, and with a best of her wings, flew away to carry the letter.
Later that day, in Crowley
"Oh, dear." Daniel Granger saw the owl tapping at the window, set his coffee mug down, and opened the window to let the owl in. "Hi, Hedwig." He said, "I guess you have something for Hermione. I'll go get her." He filled a bowl with water and emptied a little bad of owl treats in another. "Here you go."
A minute later, Hermione had read the letter. "Dad, look at this picture and tell me if that's a character you know."
Dan studied the picture. "Amazing! This is amazing! It really looks as if the skin was actually green! The clothes are completely wrong, though."
"You know who that is supposed to be?" Hermione asked.
"Sure!" He waved hair into his study, the room was practically packed with bookcases, all of them filled to capacity with comic books, both English and imported. With no hesitation, he pulled one from its place. "Here you go."
She took the comic book and read the cover title, "Miniseries 3 of 4. Tales of the New Teen Titans, Starring The Changeling. Here they are! The sensational secrets of GARFIELD LOGAN!" A teenager with green skin and hair, dressed with a skin tight costume in red and white, ran smiling towards the reader. Behind him, to his right, there was a similar looking kid, with a purple mask. Then a gorilla, a puma, and a snake, separated by yellow starbursts. To his left, a shrew, a rhino, and a hummingbird, plus a small green-skinned boy in a t-shirt and shorts. Behind them, a series of characters, all tinted blue. Most of them in strange and varied costumes, looking as if they were posing for a picture, though there were a few floating heads at the edges. The only character she recognized was Robin, but the Batman was nowhere in the cover.
"What's this, dad?"
Dan sat on a chair, and invited Hermione to occupy another. He leaned back on his chair. "The character is quite old, but was very underused until the early 1980s, when DC relaunched the Teen Titans, the creative team decided on using a few established characters, almost all of them sidekicks of older heroes. Robin was the leader. And with him came Wonder Girl, the teen counterpart of Wonder Woman, and Kid Flash, the fastest boy alive. The Changeling was the only one who didn't have an older counterpart, he was almost part of a group of heroes called the Doom Patrol."
Hermione nodded, "That sounds like a group of bad guys."
"Just misunderstood. They had that name because they though they were kinda cursed, but I'm digressing. Back to the Titans. The creative team added three new characters, Starfire, an alien princess. Raven, daughter of a demon, who rebelled against her father to be a heroine, and Cyborg, a man reconstructed with bionic parts."
"Go on."
"Well… the original Teen Titans book didn't really catch readers. The slang was outdated, and to be honest, the stories tended to be not really good. So it was cancelled. But the New Teen Titans! That one really clicked! It got so popular that this miniseries was published to cater fans who wanted more of the characters. Each issue was a kind of secret origin and this was their life. If you want to know about the Changeling, formerly Beast Boy, this is the best place to start." He pushed the comic towards Hermione. "You can send this one to Harry, if you want. I bought a few extras back when they were released."
"Why?"
"Honestly? I kinda wanted to cut the covers and make posters out of them, but never got down to it."
Later that day, in Grimmauld Place, Harry Potter read the comic avidly.
He noticed two things immediately. Whomever this George Perez was, he drew his alternate form perfectly! And two, this Garfield Logan had a luck almost as rotten as his own. Dead parents, abusive guardians, a guy who wanted him dead. Being able to turn into any animal was not really a good trade.
"What are you thinking, pup? You have the same wrinkle in your forehead Lily had when she was solving a difficult problem."
Harry set the book down.
"I think I have an idea. If I'm right, being green is not that bad." He transformed again. "Pick a small animal."
Sirius though for a moment, "Hedgehog!"
"okay, let's…"
Pop!
In Harry's place, a green hedgehog appeared!
"What?" Sirius wheezed. "You have two forms?"
Somehow, the hedgehog answered, with Harry's voice. "I think I have all the forms!"
Successively, he changed into a garden snake, a spider, a hummingbird, a dog, a cat, and even a strange lizard Sirius didn't recognize.
"This is great!" Harry turned back into himself, laughing on the floor.
"But all of them are green! Everybody will know it's you!" Sirius noted.
"Not if I keep it a secret!"
"You think you can?"
"How many people knows you are an Animagus?"
"Good point. And I have only one form."
"I need to buy some things in the Muggle side…"
"Flea powder?"
"Very funny, but no. Lots of books about animals. And a complete set of these, I want to know everything about the Changeling!"
A slow grin opened Harry's face. And it was soon mirrored by Sirius' own.
