Chapter 4: Shirou's Day (Shirou's POV)

Xx—Emiya Residence—xX

The morning light filtered softly through the kitchen window, casting warm rays over the countertops. Shirou Emiya stood in front of the stove, stirring a pot of miso soup with practiced ease. The familiar smells of breakfast began to fill the house—freshly cooked rice, grilled fish, and miso. The atmosphere was quiet and peaceful, and for a moment, everything felt normal.

Shirou let out a content sigh, glancing at Sakura, who was already at the table. She was carefully laying out bowls, chopsticks, and napkins with the kind of attention to detail that always made Shirou smile. It was easy to fall into these routines with Sakura, the two of them working together as though they'd been doing it forever.

"Do you think Naruto will manage to wake up on time today?" Shirou asked, half-joking, knowing the answer already.

Sakura's lips curved into a gentle smile. "Doubtful. He'll probably come rushing in any second now, saying he's starving." She paused for a moment, adding with a hint of amusement, "He might even trip over something on the way."

Shirou chuckled. "You're probably right. I just hope he doesn't break anything."

Just as the words left her mouth, there was a loud crash from upstairs, followed by the unmistakable sound of hurried footsteps thudding against the wooden floor.

"Shirou! Sakura! Is breakfast ready yet?" Naruto's voice, a mix of sleepiness and excitement, echoed down the hall.

Shirou exchanged a knowing look with Sakura. "There he is," she said with a soft laugh, returning her attention to the stove.

Seconds later, Naruto came skidding into the kitchen, his blond hair an unkempt mess, his pajamas looking like he had wrestled with them all night. He grinned widely, his eyes lighting up as soon as he caught sight of the food on the table.

"Morning!" Naruto announced, half-yawning as he flopped down at the table with no grace whatsoever.

"Good morning," Shirou replied, placing a bowl of rice in front of him. "You're a little late today, you know."

Naruto rubbed the back of his head sheepishly, grabbing his chopsticks. "Heh, I was having this awesome dream, and I didn't want to wake up," he explained, already shoveling food into his mouth.

Sakura giggled, covering her mouth with her hand. "What kind of dream was it this time?"

Naruto paused, his cheeks puffed out with rice. "Ramen!" he declared enthusiastically, pointing his chopsticks at the bowl in front of him. "A never-ending bowl of miso ramen. It was the best!"

Shirou shook her head, though she couldn't help but smile. "Why am I not surprised?"

As Naruto dug into his breakfast with the kind of enthusiasm that only he could muster, Shirou sat down with her bowl, savoring the calm moment. These mornings were her favorite—just the three of them, sitting together, the outside world feeling distant and unimportant. It was a slice of peace that had become more precious with each passing day.

Naruto slurped up the last of his soup and sat back, patting his stomach with satisfaction. "That was amazing, Shirou! Thanks for cooking!" he said with a grin.

Sakura smiled softly. "You're welcome, Naruto-kun. Shirou did most of the work, though."

Shirou waved a hand dismissively. "It's no big deal. Besides, you helped too."

Naruto beamed at them both, his mood as bright as ever. "Well, you're both awesome."

Shirou felt her heart warm at the compliment, even if it was something Naruto said often. It never lost its sincerity. She glanced at the clock, realizing they had plenty of time before school. It was a rare treat not to be rushing out the door.

"Hey, are we doing anything after school today?" Naruto asked, looking between them expectantly.

"I was thinking we could stop by the market," Shirou said thoughtfully. "We're running low on a few things."

Naruto's eyes lit up. "Can we get ramen ingredients?"

Sakura giggled again. "You and ramen, Naruto-kun."

Shirou gave him a playful look. "You know we can't have ramen every night."

"Why not?" Naruto shot back, pouting slightly. "Ramen's the best!"

"I think your stomach would disagree if you ate it for every meal," Shirou teased, standing up to clear the table.

"Not true! My stomach and I are in perfect agreement. We'd happily live on ramen forever!" Naruto declared, crossing his arms as if daring anyone to challenge him.

Sakura couldn't stop laughing at that. "You're impossible, Naruto-kun."

Shirou shook her head, gathering the empty bowls and setting them in the sink. "Fine, we'll get ramen ingredients. But we're making other things too."

Naruto grinned triumphantly. "Deal!"

Xx—Fuyuki City—xX

The rest of the morning passed in a comfortable routine. After breakfast, the three of them left for school, walking together through the quiet streets of Fuyuki. The sun was high in the sky, casting a soft golden light over everything. Autumn leaves crunched underfoot as they walked, the air cool but not unpleasant.

Naruto bounced between conversation topics with his usual energy, talking about everything from training to random thoughts that popped into his head. Sakura listened quietly, occasionally chiming in with her thoughts, while Shirou enjoyed the simplicity of it all. It was one of those days where everything felt calm and predictable, in the best way.

"Hey, after school, do you think we can grab some snacks from the bakery too?" Naruto asked, his voice taking on a hopeful tone. "They've got those really good melon breads I like."

"We just ate breakfast and you're already thinking about food again?" Shirou asked, though there was a playful smile on her face.

Naruto gave her a sheepish grin. "What can I say? I'm a growing boy."

Sakura giggled softly. "I think we can stop by the bakery. It's on the way to the market anyway."

Naruto pumped his fist in the air. "Yes! You guys are the best!"

School went by without much incident, which was a relief to Shirou. The day was calm, filled with the usual classes and conversations, and by the time the final bell rang, the three of them were more than ready to head out.

The trip to the market was uneventful but enjoyable. They strolled through the busy streets, the air filled with the sounds of chatter and the clatter of carts. Shirou pushed a small shopping basket while Naruto darted from one stall to another, his excitement over food never waning.

"Look at this! They've got fresh seafood today!" Naruto called out, holding up a package of fish with an exaggerated flourish.

Shirou laughed. "We already bought fish, Naruto."

"But this is fresh fish!" Naruto said, as if that made all the difference.

Sakura smiled and shook her head. "Naruto-kun, we don't need that much fish. We still have plenty at home."

Naruto pouted but eventually relented, putting the fish back with a dramatic sigh. "Fine, fine. But I'm just saying, you're missing out."

The rest of the shopping trip went smoothly, with Shirou carefully picking out ingredients for dinner while keeping Naruto away from buying every ramen packet in sight. By the time they headed back home, the sun was setting, painting the sky with shades of pink and orange.

"Tonight's going to be great!" Naruto said, practically bouncing with excitement. "We're gonna make the best dinner ever!"

Shirou glanced at him, amused by his boundless energy. "You're helping this time, you know."

Naruto gave her a mock salute. "I'll be the best helper ever! Just tell me what to do!"

When they got home, the kitchen quickly came to life. Shirou and Sakura took charge, organizing ingredients while Naruto hovered around, eager to be useful. There was a certain rhythm to the way they worked together—Sakura handling the more delicate tasks, Shirou managing the main dishes, and Naruto occasionally being given simple tasks to keep him out of trouble.

"Naruto, can you chop these vegetables?" Shirou asked, handing him a knife and a cutting board.

Naruto grinned. "Leave it to me!"

Shirou watched out of the corner of her eye as Naruto meticulously cut the vegetables. It wasn't the most graceful chopping she'd ever seen, but he was trying, and that was what mattered.

"Just don't cut your fingers off," she added with a teasing smile.

"I won't! I'm a ninja, remember?" Naruto replied, puffing out his chest in mock pride.

Sakura, who was stirring a pot of soup, giggled. "Ninjas still need to be careful in the kitchen, Naruto-kun."

The laughter and light banter continued throughout the evening. As the food began to cook, the house filled with the delicious aromas of their efforts—grilled fish, fresh rice, miso soup, and, of course, a small side of ramen for Naruto.

By the time they sat down to eat, the table was full of food, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Shirou felt a sense of contentment wash over her as she looked around at her friends, all of them smiling and laughing as they dug into their meal.

"This," Naruto said around a mouthful of rice, "is the best dinner ever."

Shirou chuckled, shaking her head. "You say that about every dinner."

"Yeah, but this one really is!" Naruto insisted, his eyes shining with sincerity.

Sakura smiled softly, watching Naruto with the same warmth that Shirou felt. "I'm glad you like it."

As they ate, the conversation flowed easily, filled with lighthearted jokes and the kind of effortless camaraderie that had grown between them. The outside world seemed far away, and for once, there was no need to think about anything beyond this moment.

When the meal was over, Naruto leaned back in his chair, sighing with contentment. "We should do this more often."

Shirou smiled, feeling the same. "Yeah, we really should."

And as the evening faded into night, they sat together, enjoying the simple pleasure of being in each other's company, knowing that no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would always have moments like this to come back to.
