Fuse

After all this time, I'm finally on stage, ready to fight Lily to obtain the domino fragment that I've been stuck here for a month training to get.

If I were a little less gung-ho at the start, she probably would've just given it to me out of kindness. But here I am, a month of my life gone, all for this.

Leon immediately runs out of the stadium, knowing that he wasn't able to help during the battle without his Pokemon. At the same time, the announcers quickly broadcast to the entire world, "It ah- Looks like Lily has accepted Fuse's match! So please do not interfere!"

It really was nice of her to do that. I wouldn't have.

Lily was already riding on her Corviknight, as was basically her signature, but she pulled out another Pokeball, "Obsty! Go!"

Taking that as my que, I immediately pocketed California's Pokeball and took out New York, my Marshadow, "New York!"

The two Pokemon descended onto the battlefield, but Obstagoon was at a clear disadvantage in this matchup.

Suddenly, Obstagoon looked a bit singed. Flame orb, I'd guess. Though I have no clear where it is on its body, I'm not going to question it.

Not letting Lily have the opportunity to switch Pokemon right away, I immediately shouted out, "Close combat right away!"

Much faster than Obstagoon, Marshadow sped through the shadows, rearing back his fists ready to decimate his opponent.

"Obstruct into Shadow claw!"

Oh, I forgot that Obstagoon could do that…

Marshadow pays for my ignorance as his close combat hits a shield, weakening him. Only to be hit by Obstagoon's shadow claw a moment later.

It was a super effective guts boosted attack, but somehow, Marshadow defied the one-shot and stood back up, despite being essentially one one health point. Definitely New York.

It was kind of bullshit that she could just use a protect move straight into an attacking move, especially when Obstagoon should've been slower. But hey, she has a system too, maybe there's something for Pokemon gamers to make their Pokemon unfair.

"Hm, try it again," I told New York, "But if Lily tells Obstagoon that same sequence again, try using the momentum of your punches to try and back away."

With a nod of affirmation, Marshadow leapt towards Obstagoon again. However, Lily had other ideas in mind.

"Obsty! Parting shot!"

Obstagoon shouted something at New York, before immediately being pulled back to his Pokeball the moment before New York landed close combat.

Not a second later, Lily's Shiny Mimikyu appeared onto the field.

God knows why she has a shiny Mimikyu. But hey, I guess she just does.

Clicking my tongue, I immediately recognized that New York wasn't going to be able to do anything due to the fact that his attack stat got dropped into the dirt along with his health.

So, I pulled out his Pokeball, "Return!"

Mimikyu was weak to steel types, giving me the option of both New Jersey and Florida, Kingambit and Tinkaton respectively. I figured that I might want to save New Jersey to let him power up from Supreme Overlord, so I pulled out Florida's Pokeball.

With a flash of light, Florida came out swinging without heeding any orders.

As Florida was about to land the gigaton hammer, Lily quickly shouted out, "Use phantom force!"

Slipping into the shadows, Mimikyu avoided the wrath of Florida.

At the same time, I just told her, "Set up stealth rocks!"

Obediently, Florida smashed the ground with her hammer, shaping all of the debris into sharp points which floated into the air, turning invisible.

I could still see it through my glasses, and I think my Pokemon should be able to avoid them. Lily might also be able to do the same, but it didn't hurt to try.

The shadows behind Florida drew darker, immediately prompting a shout, "Florida behind you!"

Immediately, Florida swung her hammer behind her, but it was too early. After she swung, Mimikyu leapt up from the shadows behind her, landing a strong blow.

As Mimikyu landed on the ground, both trainers shouted out their next course of action.

"Break the disguise by using knockoff!"

"Mimi! Once she gets close use Burning Jealousy!"

Burning fucking what now?

Florida successfully knocks off Mimikyu's leftovers that I didn't know he was holding, and breaks the disguise.

The next moment, Florida goes up in flames.

What move was that?! I've never heard of that move, did she just make it up!? Why can Mimikyu learn it?!

As Florida was struggling to recover, Lily pointed directly at Tinkaton, "Now, slam her down with shadow claw!"

"Florida! Use your gigaton hammer to retaliate!"

Florida swung her giant hammer as Mimikyu's claw extended forth, ready to reap.

Mimikyu landed his hit first, but that brought him close enough to get hit by Florida's gigaton hammer.

The two directly exchanged blows on each other, dealing devastating damage.

But in the end, Mimikyu was just stronger.

TInkaton fainted, granting Lily the first knockout of the match.

"Good job! Mimmy!"

"Gah, sorry, Florida."

Returning Florida back to her Pokeball, I figured that at least Mimikyu was severely weakened. That had to count for something.

I briefly stared at the part of the crowd where all the people from Teyvat were seated, and I saw my friends visibly wincing at my loss. Yikes, that's not a good motivator.

I've got to take out this Mimikyu as soon as possible.

I still don't want to bring out New Jersey too early, so I decided I would throw out Oregon, my Slowking-Galar.

It would take super effective damage from Mimikyu's ghost attacks, but the hope was that a single sludge bomb would be enough to secure the knockout.

Oregon landed on the field, immediately reacting as I commanded, "Use Sludge bomb to knock Mimikyu out!"

"Dodge it and use Phantom Force!" Lily commanded right after.

Poison gathered above Oregon as it used his psychic abilities to direct sludge bomb towards the disguise Pokemon.

Mimikyu attempted to dodge to the right, but it was too damaged from Tinkaton's gigaton hammer, and could not dodge Oregon's attack.

Being hit straight on by the heavy sludge bomb, Mimikyu was knocked all the way back to Lily's side, hurt but not fainted.

"Ah! Mimmy! Return!"

"Great going, Oregon!"

Man, did I even need twelve Pokemon for this? I just took out one of her 6 Pokemon, losing only a single of my 12 Pokemon. I might be able to get away with not losing much at all in this fight.

On top of her Corviknight, Lily made a choice as she pulled out another Pokeball. Nodding determinedly at it.

Then, she threw it directly at my Slowking.

"Huh? Catch that with psychic!" I called out, not quite sure what Lily was doing.

Oregon catches the Pokeball five feet away from where he was-

Only for the Pokeball to open, revealing that it was Obstagoon's Pokeball.

"Shadow Claw!"

Oh shit, did she just use that as a way to get close to Oregon without me being able to call him back in time?!

Oregon and I were stunlocked by the maneuver, so Obstagoon was able to slash straight down through Oregon's head.

Guts boosted super effective shadow claw wasn't able to take out New York only because New York didn't feel like dying at that moment.

Oregon should've survived the hit as well.

Except for, well, it was a crit.

Driving Oregon straight into the ground, Obstagoon created a crater in the ground with how heavy he piledrived Oregon into it.

Oregon was just one-hit KO'd.

Well, shit.

"That's my fault, Oregon," I apologized as I pulled him back into his Pokeball, "I didn't think she would do that."

Lily also called out to me, "Sorry for doing that! It was a bit dirty, but I thought I couldn't catch him before you called him out otherwise!"

Ugh, she also sounds completely sincere in her apology. That kindness fragment of the domino must be nice to have.

I can't wait to have it…

Knowing that Marshadow will probably want a rematch before he faints, I took out his Pokeball, calling him out.

As New York hit the ground, I called out, "Use agility! Get ready to dodge anything Obstagoon pulls out!"

Not wanting to let Marshadow outspeed Obstagoon, Lily told her Pokemon, "All you need is a single attack! Snarl at him!"

Fucking SNARL?!

"Jump to me!"

In the middle of his agility, New York jumped to my waiting arms as I jumped towards the air with my butterfly wings.

Obstagoon's snarl passed by harmlessly beneath us, but I was now directly involved in the fight.

Though…

Obstagoon

Level 70

Yeah, this doesn't count as me engaging in battle against them. As long as I don't attack them, their levels won't triple.

"New York, I'm going to throw you straight down to Obstagoon. Close combat and don't stop even against his shield. You can punch him before he hits you," I told him, readying my arms to throw him straight down.

There was only a nod from New York.

As I threw him straight towards Obstagoon, Lily commanded, "Clash with shadow claw!"

Knowing he was going to faint if he was scratched by shadow claw, and being able to react due to his increased speed from agility, Marshadow opted not to follow my orders.

Instead, he used shadow sneak to bypass Obstagoon, appearing right behind him.

Before anyone could react, he unleashed the full might of close combat straight to Obstagoon's unprepared back.

Obstagoon was essentially untouched from damage aside from his burns, however, and during the close combat he was able to turn around.

But turning around was the only thing he was able to do as he was immediately punched even more, completely annihilating Obstagoon.

New York threw his final punch, knocking Obstagoon to the floor on his back, and fainted.

At the very next opportunity, New York fell to the floor on his back, fainted.

"Fair trade, eh?" I remarked, happy that a one hit-point Marshadow took out Obstagoon.

So far, two for two. I doubt Corviknight, Ludicolo, or Centiskorch will be able to take on the rest of my team without dynamaxing.

So, I think I've got this in the bag.

Lowering myself to return New York to his Pokeball, I waited for Lily to throw out her next Pokemon.

At this rate, California, Regieleki, would easily clear Corviknight, Texas, Salamence can clear Ludicolo, and Georgia, my Seismitoad, could take care of Centiskorch.

This battle was decided for me the moment I decided to catch 12 Pokemon for this fight. My team could cleanly fight one on one with all of her Pokemon. Even if they couldn't, they could get close.

As I waited, I looked towards where my friends were seated, and they were all cheering for me.

…The rest of the crowd was kind of muted, their newly minted champion having a tough time against me, a criminal.

Well, if they were up against the police, I know Nahida could probably handle it alone, so they should be fine.

Then, Lily made her choice, "Alright, Ludicolo! You have to handle this!"

Ludicolo hit the ground dancing, as I immediately threw out Salamence.

Texas roared as I commanded, "Set up with dragon dance!"

As Texas prepared itself to annihilate, Lily ordered her Ludicolo, "Use blizzard!"

Wait, he can do that?!

"Fly up!" I shouted towards Texas, but it was a second too late.

Blizzard managed to hit its target, causing Texas to roar out in pain.

As the attack dispersed, it revealed Texas was completely frozen in ice. Not quite fainted, but very close to it.

"Shit," I grumbled as I took Texas back into his Pokeball.

I really didn't expect that blizzard. Coverage moves sure are scary.

Deciding my next course of action, I took out Ohio, my Shiinotic.

"Ohio! Land a thunderwave!" I shouted out as soon as it hit the field, Ohio following up exactly as I commanded not a second later.

"Dodge that!" Lily shouted at the exact same time, prompting Ludicolo to start moving sporadically.

The first wave of thunderwave was successfully dodged, but Ohio fired off another round, which hit the carefree Pokemon.

"Alright Ohio-"

"Blizzard!"

Before I could even pull out his Pokeball to retreat, Ludicolo's blizzard engulfed Ohio, damaging it greatly.

As the blizzard dispersed, Ohio was essentially begging me to let it retreat.

"Alright, good job, Ohio!" I said as I took back Ohio.

Now with Ludicolo paralyzed, I decided to take a small gamble.

I threw Texas back onto the battlefield, the flying dragon still frozen.

I think if I can get lucky enough for Ludicolo to be paralyzed long enough one too many times, Texas will thaw out so it could land a dual wingbeat.

If not, well, Virginia still had bug type moves to use against Ludicolo. This was purely for Texas' sake.

"Get up, Texas! You're the Lone Star State! Don't disappoint!" I shouted out, eyeing Ludicolo to check if it was able to move.

"Use another blizzard, Ludi!"

But Ludicolo was unable to move.

Meanwhile, the ice on Texas began to crack open.

Violently shaking itself, Texas was able to move once more, roaring in anger.

"Alright! Now use dual wingbeat!" I cheered on, hoping to take advantage of the paralysis for just a few minutes longer.

"Blizzard!"

As Texas was going in, Ludicolo broke through paralysis and sent another blizzard at the dragon.

On his own, Texas flew up to avoid the blizzard, quickly barreling back towards Ludicolo.

Before Lily could shout another move, Texas landed his dual wingbeat, greatly hurting Ludicolo.

"Alright, do that again!" I shouted out.

As Texas turned back to dive at Ludicolo again, Lily shouted out her next move.

"Blizzard up!"

Hearing the word blizzard, Texas immediately went up to avoid it.

However, the key word in that command was "Up."

I recognized it, but Texas moved on its own and I couldn't shout for him to stay on course fast enough.

Texas was completely predicted, Ludicolo's blizzard hitting him straight on.

Encased in layer upon layer of ice, Texas' 4 times weakness to ice finally was too much to bear and he fainted before he even hit the ground.

Well, California is the better state anyways. That's the reason I'm giving out for my pseudo-legendary being immediately gutted in this fight.

Really, I should've just saved him for the fight against Centiskorch, but I'm going to be honest, I'm getting a bit overconfident here.

Either way, this Ludicolo has to go down. He's probably at half health, so this should be a simple thing to do.

Recalling Texas, I pulled out Virginia's Pokeball, my Frosmoth.

Throwing it, I shouted out, "Start setting up quiver dance!"

Knowing that Ludicolo wouldn't be able to do much, Lily immediately switched Ludicolo out for Centiskorch.

Not caring at all for the four times fire weakness, I simply said, "Fuck it, we ball! Virginia, go into the air and use hurricane!"

As Virginia did what it was told, Lily quickly shouted out, "Use heatwave!"

Centiskorch is a physical attacker, why the fuck does it have heatwave?!

Hurricane harmlessly clashed with heatwave, the two attacks combining with each other to make the air around us warmer. But other than that, they did not land on their respective opponents.

How a quiver danced hurricane ended up like that against a physical attacker's heatwave, only God would know. But either way, it looked like Virginia was going to have to get closer for the attack to have any punch.

Flying towards Viriginia, I figured I should probably help out in the moving department, since she wasn't that fast, even with a quiver dance, "Alright, Virginia, here's the plan. I'll fly you closer, you just spam hurricanes. I'll dodge all of his attacks for you."

If me throwing Marshadow into Obstagoon wasn't violating whatever perk that determined whether I was fighting her Pokemon or not, this probably wouldn't violate it either.

"Huh?! Ah- use heat wave! Fuse is strong enough to take it!" Lily commanded after being confused for just a moment.

While Centiskorch's heat waves were quick, I was faster.

As Virginia was about to unleash another hurricane right behind Centiskorch-

"[Box of Isolation]!"

I was suddenly teleported away from Virginia as a transparent box appeared around her and Centiskorch.

Almost immediately, I realize what Lily just did.

"Ah, no cheating?" I asked rhetorically.

Lily did not understand what rhetorically meant, "Well, if you're allowed to interfere, then so am I, right?"

No, but yeah.

Obviously, inside that transparent box where there wasn't much space to move, Virginia was at a massive disadvantage.

However, her hurricane at that distance would be impossible to miss.

"Just use hurricane!"

"Flare blitz!"

The winds bent to Virginia's commands as Centiskorch engulfed itself in flames, racing towards Virginia.

Though Virginia was able to land very solid hits on Centiskorch, she crumbled the moment Centiskorch hit her.

She was thrown my way as the barrier fell once she fainted. I returned her into her Pokeball mid air.

Alright, lessons learned. No big cheaty moves like that.

"What a hassle," I annoyedly said as I pulled out Georgia's Pokeball.

Surely, a Seismitoad would be able to handle this Centiskorch just fine, yeah?

Georgia landed on the battlefield, nonplussed about this whole situation.

"Run up to him and use liquidation!" I shouted out, Georgia beginning to comply with my command.

Lily issued her decree, "Once he gets close enough, use power whip!"

Power whip- Ah fuck, is that a grass type coverage move?! Why the fuck would Centiskorch have that?!

"I want you to dodge that, Georgia!" I shouted out, not fully sure if Georgia would have the speed for it.

As Georgia closed in on Centiskorch, Centiskorch summoned giant grass whips from the ground, slamming them towards Georgia's location.

Georgia threw himself to the right, successfully dodging the first wave. But he fell to the floor and only got far enough to be able to dodge another power whip.

But still, Georgia dodged and got himself to Centiskorch.

Centiskorch panicked as Georgia's fist bubbled with liquidation, slamming it directly into the chest of Centiskorch.

Due to Virginia's damage from her hurricane, this was enough to completely faint Centiskorch.

"Alright, Georgia!"

"Ah! Centi!"

As Centiskorch returns to Lily's Pokeball, I am once again asking myself a question.

Against Corviknight and Centiskorch, Georgia has no advantage against them. But there's a third Pokemon I don't yet know.

So, do I leave in Georgia to get some chip damage? Or will I keep him in the back in case that final Pokemon is weak to ground or water?

Hm, definitely safer to switch out.

Lily threw her Pokeball, and I was focused on who she was going to bring out so I could make the right switch.

But then that little rascal somehow made Ludicolo appear right in front of Georgia, despite the Pokeball being a decent distance away from him.

Knowing what happened last time, I pulled out Georgia's Pokeball straight away, but I was still too slow.

"Energy ball!"

A straight shot to the head, four times weakness, Georgia the Seismitoad did not keep conscious through that one.

Georgia returned to my Pokeball a moment later.

"Damn it, sorry, Georgia," I apologized, "Thought that she wouldn't do that again."

Lily had a sheepish but slightly amused expression on her face, "hehe, I just couldn't resist! I'm sorry!"

I sighed.

Whatever, Washington will handle it.

I threw out Braviary, but suddenly the crowd turned confused.

Lily blinked, "Wait, that's your 7th Pokemon?"

I grinned, wanting to say this for a long time, so I played it up as dramatically as possible, "Well, guess what? I'M A CRIMINAL! I DON'T CARE! I HAVE TWELVE POKEMON!"

The crowd went wild at my response, the first time they probably actually cheered for me. I know Dori is rolling her eyes at that response, since I told her about it beforehand. But I'm happy as hell.

Lily frowned, not approving at all. But considering she didn't say anything, I suppose she couldn't do much about it.

As soon as the crowd died down just a bit, I commanded Washington, "Brave bird!"

Washington charged without hesitation, but Ludicolo simply laughed as Lily shouted out, "Blizzard!"

That's okay, Washington will just brave the blizzard and he'll secure the KO on Ludicolo.

…Which is what I thought would happen.

Instead, Ludicolo gets ANOTHER FREEZE.

What the hell was that Pokemon's luck?!

Washington gets encased in a solid layer of ice, unable to do anything as his brave bird is stopped.

But the momentum wasn't, as Washington kept moving forward towards Ludicolo.

Not being able to move away fast in time, Ludicolo was hit by a solid block of ice.

The ice broke, freeing Washington, while Ludicolo was dropped onto the floor, recovering from the unexpected attack.

"THAT'S MY PRESIDENT! BRAVE BIRD!" I shouted out with the utmost glee. I knew my president couldn't fail me like that!

Ludicolo barely got up in time to try and use blizzard again-

But Ludicolo was paralyzed.

Washington landed the brave bird directly against Ludicolo.

Damaged from the fight, Ludicolo fainted the moment brave bird landed. But Washington was similarly damaged from the blizzard, and so he fainted as well. But he has done his country proud.

Lily and I returned our fainted Pokemon, and I immediately held out California's Pokeball.

I could try and burn Corviknight with Hawaii or Arizona, my Volcarona or Coalossal, or I could get a sleep or paralysis with Ohio. But no, I should play this relatively safe. California can handle this.

"California! Let's go!"

"Corvy! Hang on for me!"

Lily jumped off the Corviknight which she's been sitting on the entire battle as it engaged into combat with California, the Regieleki.

"Play it safe and use thunder wave!" I told California, it quickly followed my commands.

"Corvy, use reflect!"

Huh? Reflect?

Thunder wave hit Corviknight, but she managed to set up reflect.

Then, Lily shouted out, "Now use light screen!"

"Stop that with thunderbolt!"

While setting up a light screen was fast, thunder moved faster.

Corviknight was hit by thunderbolt, but in the middle of her pain, she managed to set up light screen.

Lily smiled, holding up Corviknight's Pokeball, "Thank you, Corvy!"

She returned Corviknight to her Pokeball, and now I'm filled with anticipation.

Who is Lily's last pokemon?

Lily brought out a simple Pokeball, and gives it pat, her dynamax band glowing.

She's about to dynamax, should I dynamax California? Should I pull him back?

I wasn't given much time as Lily gently said, "Gem told me that one day, I'll grow up to be someone great. I know you'll be great one day too, Fuse. But I won't let the people supporting me down!"

The Pokeball in Lily's hand turned comically large compared to her, and I immediately made a decision.

Ohio, you're up, buddy.

I swapped out California for Ohio, and the little Shiinotic looked at me like I was its biggest enemy.

Lily threw out her Pokemon behind her just a moment later, revealing her final Pokemon.

Instantly, I remembered a few things I was thinking about during my journey.

"Why would Lily hide her final Pokemon like that?"

"Lily is from the Crown Tundra, I wonder if that means anything."

"Oh, I need a psychic and ice type for my team. I wonder if there's a Pokemon with both those types?"

All those odd questions finally came back to me as the visage of her final Pokemon revealed itself.

ICE RIDER CALYREX WAS HER FINAL FUCKING POKEMON.

It could've been worse, it could've been shadow rider. BUT THIS IS NOT A POKEMON I WANTED TO FIGHT.

"Ohio! Use spore to put him to sleep!" I panicked, shouting out something I knew Ohio couldn't do.

Lily pointed straight forward, "Callie! Use max hailstorm!"

The stadium froze over as Ohio could do nothing but watch as a giant ice ball fell on him.

I winced as I recalled Ohio back to my Pokeball.

Alright, now, what the fuck do I do?

Calyrex-Ice was dynamaxed in front of me. I have 4 Pokemon left.

California didn't have anything useful to bring to the table, as the other three Pokemon could deal super effective damage against the last two Pokemon. Kingambit, New Jersey, probably had the best shot against Calyrex. If I dynamax now, I could probably have a good shot at one hitting Calyrex. Volcarona and Coalossal, Hawaii and Arizona, can hit hard but also get equally hit hard.

Yeah, I played my early game too confidently here. Now it's hailing, Calyrex will likely get another boost with chilling neigh, likely making it one-shot everything I have.

I'm not sure if Calyrex knows a fighting type move to use max knuckle with. But if it does, New Jersey probably dies instantly since it's likely slower.

If I throw in California, he'll die. it'll probably get a boost to whatever stat it uses max move with, but also his attack would be increased with chilling neigh. But I think at this point, anything is a one-shot.

Hawaii and Arizona… Quite frankly, anyone but New Jersey can take out Corviknight. I just need one of them alive for that endgame.

Actually, Volcarona moves pretty fast, doesn't it? If I dynamax Volcarona, couldn't I just instantly one-shot both Calyrex and Corviknight? Ah, but Calyrex Ice's defense is so high, it might not actually be a one-shot…

…Alright, then here's my plan.

I'm sending in California and New Jersey to die. Then, Calyrex will lose his dynamax. I'll throw Volcarona in with dynamax and hopefully get the KO on the last two Pokemon. If not, Arizona will save me.

With that, I threw out California's Pokeball, the legendary Regieleki knowing its duty.

"Thunder wave!"

Lily shouted out, "Max overgrowth!"

Max overgrowth?!

Regieleki successfully managed to paralyze Calyrex, but the seeds landed, engulfing California.

California achieved everything he needed to do. Now, the rest of the team will carry his torch.

I returned California to my Pokeball as I immediately threw out New Jersey.

Supreme Overlord took affect as New Jersey did his own thing. He wanted to land at least one hit.

"New Jersey! Sucker punch!"

"Max knuckle!"

The way how sucker punch worked here was a bit odd. Essentially, the Pokemon would punch at the air and that would somehow hit the opponent. I guess giving everyone a lot of speed wasn't a thing in this world.

Either way, Calyrex roared at the damage it took from the sucker punch, but that didn't stop it from sending max knuckle straight towards New Jersey.

Though, that super effective attack, plus Supreme Overlord, definitely put it in the one-hit KO range with Hawaii.

New Jersey fainted satisfied with his singular contribution to the battle.

Their sacrifices were now visible as Calyrex was brought out of his dynamax form, brought back to a regular size.

So, it's just a 2v2. But my side is completely healthy.

I pulled out Hawaii's Pokeball, ready to say a few words as my dynamax band shined, "Alright, I've screwed up this battle enough. The United States of America demands better of me. So, Hawaii, burn Calyrex and Corviknight to ashes."

Hawaii's Pokeball turned massive, and with one hand, I threw it behind me as Hawaii turned larger, becoming dynamaxed.

"Use max flare!" I shouted out, ready to obtain victory.

Lily simply asked back, "Calyrex, live to use zen headbutt!"

Live? That's not going to happen.

With the heat of the sun, Hawaii threw a massive fireball directly at Calyrex, causing him to disappear in a sea of flames.

There's absolutely no way he lived that one, so I immediately tell Hawaii-

Nothing, it turns out.

Because out of the smoke came a heavily injured Calyrex, still on his frozen steed.

"What the fuck?" I muttered, not believing my eyes. How the hell did he survive that?

"I will not…" a psychic voice came to my mind, reminding me that this guy could speak, "Disrespect Lily by losing here!"

There was a slight voice in the back of my head telling me he shouldn't be able to do that without using another human to speak through, but that's swiftly ignored as Calyrex's head glows.

Then, Calyrex threw his head forward, the outline of his head creating a zen headbutt that was heading directly for Hawaii.

Not having any way of dodging the attack, Hawaii took the full force of the attack, throwing Hawaii back so badly that he actually hit the walls of the stadium.

Then Hawaii exploded.

To my total disbelief, Hawaii fainted from that single attack.

"How the hell?!" I couldn't believe my eyes. Was the stat boosts Calyrex gained really that strong?!

Either way, I had to get Hawaii back into my Pokeball so I could throw out my last Pokemon.

"Arizona!" I threw out Coalossal, pinning all my hopes onto him, "I need you to save the union!"

Arizona came out roaring, readying flames within his mouth as I commanded, "Flamethrower! Even a single flicker will knock him out!"

"Callie! Teleport so you can double kick him!" Lily urged in return, her voice filled with panic for the first time.

Calyrex had the speed to teleport, but before he could perform the kick, Arizona managed to turn his head fast enough for a single bit of flame to reach him.

Calyrex and his steed roared in pain, stopping them long enough for Arizona to completely cover Calyrex in flames.

That should've been the end of it, but Calyrex had enough determination to get one kick into Arizona, knocking him far back and damaging Coalossal greatly.

But by then, Calyrex had already fainted.

Lily smiles as she returns Calyrex to her Pokeball, "Callie, you did great! Corvy will finish this!"

With that, Lily brought Corviknight back to the field, still paralyzed.

So, it was just an extremely damaged Coalossal versus a paralyzed and hurt Corviknight. This should be fun.

"Arizona," I pointed straight forward, my voice tired and worn, but not defeated, "End this with heat wave. Don't even let Corviknight get close."

Lily crossed her arms for the first time since the match began, determination filling her small body, "Corvy, the first moment you can, use body press! Then it'll be over!"

With that, the final exchange between two Pokemon began.

Corviknight flew straight up, unfettered by paralysis, to avoid the heat wave.

Arizona quickly canceled his flamethrower so he could point himself up to be able to use it again.

But Corviknight was coming straight towards him with reckless speed, so I told Arizona, "Stand your ground! Use heat wave!"

"Body press!"

The two forces collided, both of them giving their all for their respective trainers.

In the end, however, Corviknight hit Arizona, no matter how much heat he was exuding.

The attack caused the dirt around them to jump into the air, creating a layer of dust. We had to wait for a moment to settle down to find out who was the winner.

…Only for the dust to reveal that both of them had fainted.

I look towards Lily, instantly recognizing only one thing. She realized it at well at the same time.

Lily had no more Pokemon left to battle with.

She had no more shield to protect herself with.

I immediately pulled out Washington, my gun, and aimed it straight towards Lily, intending on getting the kind fragment of the domino-

"Stop!" Suddenly, Lily's Rotom phone, which I recalled was also Lily's system, appeared in-between her and I. Gem, right?

I shot anyway.

Hitting Gem right in the center, the Rotom phone broke.

But I was immediately reminded…

Rotoms are a Pokemon, and this one was possessed by an actual gamer system.

G.E.M

Level 300

[All of Lily's Pokemon's levels are boosted by 3 times when engaged in combat that is not a Pokemon battle.]

Oh, fuck me.

Gem made herself look much bigger and threatening, and I knew that this wasn't going to be an easy fight.

So, I made the most obvious choice, raising my hand in a salute, "Domain expa-"

"Stop!" Lily shouted, interrupting both Gem and I's movements, "Fuse, Gem, it's alright! I've made up my mind!"

Lily walked up to me, and I think I knew what was happening.

The Kindest Fragment of The Domino wouldn't want that previous fight to have been for nothing, after all.

"Fuse, I accept defeat!" Lily announced, shocking everyone around the world, no doubt, "So I would like to give you the Kindest Fragment of The Domino!"

Again, Lily essentially threw up, falling to her knees. But out of her mouth came a little broken piece of the domino I was looking to reassemble.

[Kindest Fragment of The Domino - Kindness is the collective trait that allowed civilizations to grow out of their cycles and participate in the universe. Yet, that kindness can easily be twisted in more sinister ways.]

"Here you go, Fuse," Lily earnestly smiled, still happy for me despite now not being forcefully chained to be kind, "Congratulations!"

I took the fragment out of her hands, "Thank you."

Immediately, it fuses with the rest of the fragments, and I am filled with satisfaction.

Ah… Now that feels good.

AN:

About 5.6k words.

Also 6 hours after I should've uploaded it, but hey, that's on me, my bad. I thought I'd be less lazy, and you know, for my credit, I got 2k words done by 7 PM on Friday.

It just so happened that this chapter was, you know, a bit longer than 2k words.

Anyways yeah, though I've complained about not wanting to write Pokemon fights in the Pokemon arc, this was a pretty fun fight to write. But considering the length of just this one fight… I think I'm gonna find an excuse to leave most of the Pokemon back home, lmao.

If you have a favorite Pokemon from Fuse's list, be sure to tell me so I don't leave them home to never be mentioned again.

Anyhow, I'll get to the aftermath of this battle in the next chapter.

It's 6 AM for me right now. I just want to upload this and get to bed.

Oh, also, I was thinking about putting the like, plans of the next chapter in my Discord server. Like, if I was writing this at a sensible time, by the time I uploaded this, the plans for chapter 42 would be posted in a google doc on my server so you could look at it and see me write it live or something.

Of course, I'm not writing at a sensible time so that chapter 42 doc doesn't exist yet. But I might try it to see if I can entice anyone to join the server.

So, join Fair and Balanced Incorporated today!

I just spent like 5 minutes not writing anything and staring at the screen blankly holy hell I gotta upload this and go to bed.

[If anything looks wrong this chapter, that'll be my excuse.]

[See you on Monday with the real Columbus day upload lol.]
