Tamaki wasn't sure how he ever could've forgotten about the sports festival considering Mirio sat him down to watch it with him every year since they became friends, but the fact that he'd have to participate in a televised international event had somehow slipped under his radar until Aizawa-Sensei brought it up.
And even though Miyake tried to comfort him Tamaki ended up shuffling around like a ghost for the rest of the day despite his friends' best attempts, Mirio and Hado had enough excitement to make up for his sulking for their group, while he was lying face down on the table preparing to be declared socially dead with Miyake's tail draped over his shoulders during lunch that day Mirio and Hado were excitedly babbling over training plans.
Mine- Oswald seemed to be sympathetic to his plight at least, the pinkette had only joined their group recently but was fitting in just fine as far as he could tell and Tamaki did appreciate having another laid-back person to balance their energy, Tamaki had always suspected Mirio had the ability to match with someone that had an energy quirk but it was nice of Hado to confirm that theory for him.
Unfortunately, there was little that could contain the pair's excitement in the two weeks they all trained together, it was easy for his friends given their quirks weren't as dependent on outside factors like his, Miyake and Oswald tried their best to help him but there simply wouldn't be much for him to do if he made it to the third round.
His quirk relied heavily upon what he consumed recently, and he'd have very few options available to him in the one-on-one if he made it that far, Oswald had tried help him become more accustomed to fighting hand-to-hand without his quirk which was a bit of a challenge since he wasn't used to fighting in general, Miyake was also trying to help him be more flexible when he used different animal features.
Between all the training and worrying over the over-looming event time passed way too quickly for Tamaki and before he was ready Tamaki found himself standing in his P.E. uniform sulking in the corner with the comforting weight of Miyake's tail wrapped around his waist and Oswald leaning against the wall next to him helping to hide him from the view of their other classmates.
"I'm going to die… " Tamaki bemoaned burying his face into his hands "Oh, c'mon Amajiki-Chan~ It's not going to be that bad!" Hado teased giggling "I'm sure it won't be that awful Amajiki you've been training really hard for this." Haya told him despite being similarly anxious about the whole event.
"I'm never going to be able to show my face in public again… " Tamaki whined, his head falling back from his personal anguish, Oswald raised an eyebrow "Have you ever been able to show your face in public?" the pinkette questioned, the jab making Tamaki sulk harder. Miyake's tail briefly unwound from Tamaki to whack Oswald over the back of the head. "Okay, I deserved that but, ow." Oswald said rubbing the spot Miyake hit.
Before anyone could make any attempt to further comfort him the alarm warning the students they would be walking out soon rang and Miyake forced Tamaki to his feet by picking him up with his tail, trembling he followed Miyake to get in formation with the rest of his class and then following them with his head firmly focused on the back of his classmate's head trying to ignore that there had to be millions of people watching him right now.
Oh, who was he kidding, that was the only thing Tamaki could think about *Now don't think that just because 1-A's missing a few students that they're any weaker than the previous years, cause these little listeners are just as ferocious as their lovely sister class.* Mic-Sensei declared as they walked into place getting a roar from the crowd.
And once they were in place the doorway next to them opened shortly after and he could spot Mirio amongst them and he gave them an animated wave when he spotted them *The infamous 1-B! Full of bright young fledgling heroes in the waiting for their chance to shine today." Mic-Sensei said and some of Mirio's classmates waved to the crowd as they received their own round of cheers.
*And of course, we have the aspiring star students destined for brilliant careers in every industry imaginable, Classes 1-C, 1-D, and 1-E of the General studies course.* Mic-Sensei introduced, and three doors opened, the crowd wasn't as loud with a general applause from everyone as the three classes walked out in tandem.
*Ooh, and we can't forget our little inventors, the Support courses 1-F, 1-G, and 1-H. Best keep your eyes on them cause your gear will be in their capable hands before you know it!* Mic-Sensei told them and Tamaki felt like the man was giving the crowd a wink as he said that, unlike the other courses the three classes of the students proudly walked out with a few decked in gear they had likely made themselves.
*The students in this last course are a whole different breed of animal that you should do your best to stay on their good side since you will likely be putting your future careers in their hands, please welcome 1-I, 1-J, and 1-K!* Mic-Sensei commented, and the last round of students got the smallest if still polite reaction from the crowd.
Tamaki gulped wishing the fireworks could've been loud enough to drown out the crowd, so it was easier to focus on anything else but that he was on live tv. But that would've been too easy wouldn't it, shaking his head Tamaki forced himself to look at the small stage where Master-Sensei stood waiting for Mic-Sensei to introduce him now that all the other classes were on the field.
*And last but not least, the main man for today's events and the grand umpire for our green first-years, the man himself, the Evil-Eyed hero: Mastermind!* Mic-Sensei announced making the crowd cheer even louder and Tamaki flinched at the volume, Master-Sensei scowled lifting his head revealing his glowing eyes to glare at the crowd "Be quiet, you're giving me a headache." Master-Sensei scolded; his voice easily heard throughout the stadium since he had a mic hooked up to his shirt.
The audience was quickly silenced as Master-Sensei's quirk activated, paralyzing everyone within his gaze, including the students. "That's much better, don't make me do that again. Now this years' student pledge will be given by Hado Nejire of Class 1-A, step on up." Master-Sensei said lowering his head so that his hair covered his eyes again. Hearing Hado would be giving the speech surprised Tamaki, he thought that if Hado had been picked to give the speech that she would have mentioned it at some point given her sheer excitement.
Without Master-Sensei's eyes on them and the brevity of the exposure it only took a few seconds for his quirk to wear off and for Hado to cheer as she happily headed for the mini-stage. Bouncing on the balls of her feet as she waited for Master-Sensei's go ahead before speaking, she got it in the form of a thumbs-up once Master-Sensei finished with the mic setup. Without hesitation Hado launched straight into her speech.
"Hi everyone!" She cheerfully said getting some loud feedback that made everyone wince "Oh, wow that was loud, sorry about that. I wasn't told I was going to give the pledge so I'm sorry if this isn't well planned out, I'm kind of making this up as I go along." Hado told the crowd, lowering her voice and fiddling with her fingers in a way that Tamaki thought meant she was nervous.
"Moving on… Today I pledge that I'm going to do my best to help my friends have the best time during the festival! We've worked really hard these last weeks regardless of the course, and more than anything today I want to do what every hero should. So, I'm going to do my best to support my friends and future coworkers the way we are going to once we graduate. Plus Ultra!" Hado proudly proclaimed her fist the air surrounded by the golden simmer of her quirk wrapping around her arm.
Hado's speech got a simple round of applause and a few cheers of the school motto from the heroes in the crowd, likely the demure response was due to Master-Sensei's earlier warning given how rare it was to get such a lukewarm response, Master-Sensei merely tilted his head to the side "Well said Hado, go back to your class." Master-Sensei told her, and Hado gave a big wave to the crowd before rejoining them.
"With that inspiring speech from Hado I think we're ready to begin the festival and pick our opening game." Master-Sensei said, and the many screens (including the one rolled out behind Master-Sensei) brought up the slot system animation he had seen on the tv before and waited to see which of the ten events would be selected, after a moment the slots stop rotating and showed the event: Yellow-brick Road.
Tamaki tried to settle his nerves, the YBR was hardly the worst event that could have been picked, it was the longest of the first-choice events, but it wasn't the worst of the ten events, but Tamaki wasn't sure if what he ate that morning would work well enough for this course (Takoyaki and too much insect candy from Mirio attempting to comfort him), but there was little he could about that now before the game started.
*Ooh! Looks like we're going to have quite the footrace for our students this year.* Mic-Sensei commented getting a slight nod from Master-Sensei "All eleven classes will participate in a footrace upon a rather complex yellow track made solely from bricks, the course will stretch twice around the outer circumference of the stadium—which will be about eight kilometers in total." Master-Sensei explained with all the screens showing an illustration of the event.
"Because the first half of the track is above the second all the students will wear trackers that will track whether they have completed the first lap and automatically disqualify any students that try to head straight to the gate without finishing the appropriate distance for completing the course, there is also a break area halfway so don't forget to take a break, and eat or drink if necessary." Master-Sensei told the crowd showing one of the said trackers before a fleet of robots began passing them out.
"Aside from grievous bodily harm and jumping to the bottom track too early the students are free to do what they can to finish first, good luck, the second year's support course went above and beyond to make this course for you." Master-Sensei outlined as he stepped aside, a ramp made of concrete rose from the ground and connected to a large doorway.
Robots were herding the other classes into a group in front of the ramp which was making his already shot nerves worst as he was surrounded by the rest of the year, consequently causing him to feel boxed in and claustrophobic only able to see a sea of people when he glanced up from his feet. Swallowing his nerves Tamaki let his head rise and watched as the three lights turned on slowly.
*Yeah! Is everyone in place and ready to start?* Mic-Sensei asked getting the crowd more hyped up, as he was supposed to do *Let's go! Everybody, count down with me! Three. Two. One!* Mic-Sensei's voice was almost drowned out by the hundreds of heroes in the stadium, and the next second there was a large air horn and the gate up ahead opened signaling the beginning of the event.
Apologies for getting us sidetracked with this Sports festival arc but I swear I wrote it for a reason other than because I wanted to.
As for how I made the events for it, I took a base line of normal sports events and cartoonishly exaggerated them to canon levels, cranked out about ten 1st and 2nd round events and used a random number generator to pick which ones to use.
