Natsuo rushed around the house in the morning to get ready for the day, he was going to U.A. for the first time.
Cursing his scatter brain tendances post-exams Natsuo struggled to find a matching pair of socks, he couldn't afford to look anything less than professional on his first day of work.
Which was easier said than done since apparently his laundry was really conspiring against him today.
Seriously how did one of his socks end up behind the mini-freezer? It was in the garage and he didn't go in there expect for when he needed to use the tools in there, and that was once a month.
He'd complain about it more but he didn't have the time and double checked his scrubs looked alright.
The grey wasn't quite his color but it was better than bright orange or be even more washed out with white ones.
He would've preferred black ones but wearing the school colors would probably net him some points with the staff since most were alumni.
Grabbing the go-bag he used to use for his old job and slipping on his shoes before rushing out of the door, he had a bus to catch and only a few minutes of wiggle room before he'd be late.
Only to nearly trip over himself as he spotted Shouto on his way to begin his daily run, something that was very odd seeing as Shouto's runs were in the evening and not the mornings.
Their eyes met across the distance and Natsuo had to hold back from going over to him, then Shouto raised his hand waved to him.
Natsuo took a deep breath and reminded himself that once he aced the first day as an assistant then he'd be able to freely see Shouto at U.A. without worrying about Enji fully separating them legally.
So despite feeling awful about having to leave so soon Natsuo smiled back to his little brother and brought his hands up.
'Love U, B safe.'
Natsuo picked up sign language to give himself a better resume but in the couple of times he was able to squirrel away some time with Shouto he'd taught his brother those signs so even when he couldn't get near Shouto could still hear him.
Shouto's hands immediately shot up and signed back, eyes lighting up as he signed 'Love U.' back.
Natsuo couldn't help grinning back at Shouto before waving goodbye and running off to make it to the bus stop in time.
Natsuo, having ridden two buses and a train to make it here on time, and now stood in front of the gates to U.A.
And he had to admit that it was sort of intimidating with how big they were, the fact they could suddenly snap up just inches from his face.
That was probably the worse part but his mind couldn't help thinking that the gates might react late and he'd suffer the consequences of that, which wouldn't be pretty at all.
The only thing he had to protect himself from that was the fact that he had the one-time keycode for entering that Principal Nezu gave him via private email.
So, with great trepidation Natsuo approached the part of the gate where a button press was and typed in the code before walking toward the entrance, mentally hoping that the door wouldn't suddenly close on him instead of letting him through.
Letting out a heavy sigh of relief once he crossed the threshold and with the weight of his chest Natsuo rushed on to get to the actually building and meet up with someone who could show him to the medical wing so he could get started on his training.
He might still be doing medical work but Natsuo was quite certain that his work on an E.M.T crew would be different in many ways compared to working in a school's nurses office.
Sure, there was the bit where he'd stayed in one place compared to constantly going to new areas was the one most obvious.
But he'd also have a different patient base entirely as well.
Instead of answering calls for strangers he'd be getting a constant stream of students and probably develop a repour with the repeat visitors, either students with health issues or ones with problems going too plus ultra.
The latter being mostly hero or support course students since he couldn't see the general or business courses being as dangerous for the kids-
Whoa that was a big door.
Natsuo had to stop himself just to gape at the things in front of him.
He had heard of the doors being six meters tall but lord almighty they looked like they could've dwarfed All Might and Gang Orca with one of them standing on the others' shoulders.
Shaking his head Natsuo pushed the door open and made his way inside only to pause when he realized he had absolutely no clue where he was supposed to go and that Principal Nezu hadn't given him any directions in his email.
*Son of a... * Natsuo mentally cursed in mind.
But before he could finish the thought a call of his name brought him out of it and he turned to see a semi-familiar boy with bushy green hair coming over to him, while waving.
it was Taira's friend/mentor Midoriya.
He had to admit he didn't think he'd see the kid that threatened to sue the pant off a hero be on staff at U.A. but he could hardly think that badly of him.
Midoriya was the reason he got recommended to work here and helped him meet Taira in the first place.
The fact he knew Enji had thrown a damn hissy fit over Midoriya working at U.A. also rose his opinion of the kid.
"Midoriya-San." Natsuo greeted with a bow and the boy gave a small chuckle waving his hands lazily.
"Hello, Natsuo-San and there's no need to bow or use honorifics. Any friend of Osamu-Kun's is a friend of mine." Midoriya told him.
Almost immediately Natsuo could help grinning a bit more at that comment.
Finding himself tickled pink at just being Taira's friend/coworker instead of another one of Enji's kids for once.
"I'm sure you want to get straight to work. Come on I'll show you where the Medical wing is." Midoriya said motioning for him to follow along which Natsuo did, easily falling into step with the young boy.
"Sorry about Nezu-San not giving you directions, he knew we were acquainted through Osamu-Kun and figured it would be better for me to show you the way." Midoriya apologized.
"Nah, it's fine Midoriya. And I got to admit I am a little curious about you; Taira talks a lot about you helping him and it's not every day you see someone berate a hero to their face in public." Natsuo replied putting his free hand in one of his pockets.
Midoriya's cheeks turned a touch red and the boy's cheeks puffed up with annoyance.
"Well, I wouldn't have to do it if that guy didn't try to take my student away from me, or deny a minor the right to medical treatment." Midoriya huffily said, crossing his arms.
Natsuo for his part, thankfully didn't have to try too hard to hide his laughter, having more than enough practice of huffy-but-cute annoyance from Taria in the last year.
"Nice shoes by the way. Denmark does make the best from what I've been told." Midoriya commented off-handedly.
Meanwhile, Natsuo had to keep himself from tripping on thin air and immediately turned to Midoriya wide-eyed.
"Did, Taria tell you?" Natsuo asked and Midoriya blinked, staring back at him.
"You, know I'm a two-toes as well… very openly, in fact." Midoriya replied and Natsuo could've facepalmed if he wasn't locked up in mortification.
Of course, Midoriya would know his shoes, two-toes were able to 'see' straight through each other in most cases, and he was the weird one who couldn't.
"Right, sorry." Natsuo apologized.
"It's okay, are you worried about others knowing you're a two-toes?" Midoriya asked looking a bit concerned.
Natsuo scoffed "I ain't ashamed if that's what you mean, but Enji doesn't want others to know about one of his kids having hollow blood, and as much as I would like be spiteful about it I probably wouldn't be allowed to finish getting my M.D." Natsuo answered rubbed the back of his neck.
Midoriya nodded "Understandable, though I should warn you that some people will be able to figure you out, I can talk to Nezu-San about keeping that to themselves." Midoriya told him.
Natsuo frowned at that "Like who?" he asked, hoping he'd be able to keep away from them for the most part.
Midoriya hummed and brought his hands up to list them on his fingers.
"Well Haruki-San, Yogi-San, and Bullet-Jacker have been around long enough to figure you out by sight. Himawari-San might because of her empathy quirk but your sheltered for a two-toes so she might not realize you are one.
Recovery Girl will definitely make you after Nezu-San gave her an updated copy of medical records for two-toes like us.
And Hound Dog could maybe sniff out the difference between us, two-toes have a different emotional output and animal types can feel that." Midoriya answered.
"The others don't know enough to make you." Midoriya added afterwards.
Natsuo took a deep breath "Great." Natsuo replied.
While he didn't doubt that U.A. would be discreet about his real quirk status Natsuo couldn't help feeling a uneasy mix of discomfort with that many people knowing before he graduated and had his degree firmly in hand.
"Ah here we are, I'd wish you luck but that'd probably end up jinxing you." Midoriya said and Natsuo saw the door to the medical wing was no less big than the front doors.
"Jeez, do these guys expect the kids to get that big?" Natsuo questioned and Midoriya shrugged.
"Sort of, wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility, or the staff for that matter." Midoriya commented before trading goodbyes with Natsuo and presumably leaving to get ready for classes.
Natsuo knocked on the door before he moved to enter, the wing didn't look that different from the nurse's offices he'd been to before, just four times wider and with actually hospital beds and a massive cabinet for meds off to the right.
"I see your early Todoroki-Kun." a voice called out from his left and Natsuo turned to see his boss for the foreseeable future.
"Recovery Girl Buchou." Natsuo quickly greeted bowing to his feet.
Recovery Girl scoffed "Its hardly a department when it's just two people, Recovery-San will be fine Todoroki-Kun." the woman corrected hopping off the stool she was sitting on and over to him.
"Right." Natsuo agreed with a nod, though a bit tense as the woman looked him up and down.
"Already in uniform, good, good. Midoriya-San did say you'd be more competent." Recovery Girl mused before taking out a key ring and tossing it to him.
"And decent reflexes to boot. That's your keys, there's ones for each of the cabinets, the wing, narcotics storage and safe room. Lose it and you'll be facing a fine of ¥10k per key if not criminal charges." Recovery Girl informed him.
Natsuo nodded "Got it." he responded planning to keep them in his personal safe when he wasn't at work.
"Unfortunately for your training you've come at the worst time of the year, February and September are licensing exams normally we only have to deal with a 2nd and 3rd years those times, plus the examinees in February, but that is small time compared to the weeks before the festival." Recovery Girl mournfully said shaking her head.
Natsuo internally sighed when he realized she was right, the Sports festival was likely to have the students coming in more regularly than usual because of training injuries.
"The support course is practically going to be treat us as a revolving door, and we'll see our fair share of the hero course, and a few intrepid Gen Ed or Business students looking to transfer." Recovery Girl said shaking her head before tapping his knee with her cane.
"That year of working as an E.M.T. better have made you quick on your feet boy. cause you're going to need it, now let me show you where everything is before we get flooded." Recovery Girl told him motioning him to follow her over to the medicine cabinets.
Natsuo somehow got the feeling this would run him more ragged then his previous job...
But getting the chance of seeing Shouto face light up once he realized they could see each other freely at school whenever they wanted between classes, then frankly speaking it would be worth it.
