Izuku had been ready for a few different reactions from the reveal of Tenko.
Anger, denial, even accusations.
Horror and disgust weren't off the table either.
The crushing sorrow Yagi was being utterly crushed by was also something Izuku accounted for.
But the shame? Izuku hadn't prepared for Yagi to be this ashamed by the reveal.
Because as it was the man seemed to be drowning in shame.
"Toshinori," Tsukauchi muttered as he placed a hand on Yagi's shoulder, causing the man to recoil as if the touch burned him.
Yagi hunched in on himself with both of his hands now firmly gripping his knees to a worrying degree.
"W- Why would he... " Yagi choked out, his voice sounding much rougher.
And it didn't take a genius to understand what Yagi was trying to ask.
"To emotionally destroy you." Izuku answered, trying not to sound unkind about it.
But from the look that Yagi gave told him that he wanted more than a pitiful excuse.
And frankly if he was anyone else those icy blue and slightly glowing demanding eyes might have sent him into a panic.
"Kurogiri has told me that the reason All For One gave Tenko a quirk that led him to killing his family was to completely break you, in an effort to finally get his brother's quirk from you." Izuku told him.
"How?" Gran Torino growled, his own anger rising now that the shock had worn away.
Izuku glanced between the two, both clearly taking this information much more to heart than the others.
Probably because they actually knew Shimura in person and were pissed that someone would do something so vile.
The others seemed to still be stumbling to catch up with what they were talking about.
"Tomura, the person All For One wanted him to be, was raised to hate heroes with his whole being, and you specifically, for encouraging the bystander effect and almost killing his 'savior', All For One." Izuku stated.
Izuku could think of over a hundred examples he could give where All For One purposely exposed Tenko to the worst parts of heroes.
"And you would have only discovered who Tenko really was when it would be too late, say if you and All For One were to have a rematch," Izuku supposed and clocked how Sir immediate stiffened when he said that.
"At which point he would reveal that not only was Tenko was Shimura's grandson that you would have failed to save, but that with the brainwashing the boy was under would mean that you never could, and therefore be left with a soul shattering choice." Izuku explained before pausing.
"Either knowingly let who knows how many people die and maybe die yourself trying to free Tenko from the brainwashing he's under," Izuku said holding out one of his hands.
A very distaste opinion that might never have worked if they didn't know of any of the triggers to break Tenko out of the brainwashing, which would only lead to a lot of mass murder.
"Or be forced to understand that Tenko cannot be save and have to kill him to protect the peace you've been claiming to protect since your debut." Izuku finished saying holding out his other hand.
A thought that made Izuku's heart drop, the thought of Tenko, the boy he watched joyfully playing with his Pokémon and draw with such careful attention to detail, truly being completely lost to the hatred All For One planted in him just hurt to think about.
"If you even survived the shock of learning this in battle in the first place." Izuku morosely added.
Yagi took a shaky breath than lowered his head on to his now folded hands, shaking slightly as he really wasn't taking all of this being dropped on him well at all.
Tsukauchi's hand was held in the air, clearly wanting to comfort his friend but unsure if he should physically reach out.
Gran Torino meanwhile was scowling at the floor.
Sir was off in his own world and Izuku couldn't be bothered to really looking into what was going on in his head.
And Shuzenji just looked tired, like before Natsuo started working with her, but was trying to keep her head held high despite whatever was going inside her mind.
Izuku could not let the despair continue, as if this horrid fate of Tenko's had already come to pass and wasn't going to be changed by any power out there.
"Tenko can still be saved." Izuku firmly said, breaking Yagi out of the headspace that he was in, weary eyes rising to look at him.
"Tenko isn't lost, we will save him." Izuku promised not wavering "It'll just take time and patience." Izuku told him.
Yagi stared at him for another moment before he sighed, and one of his hands went to the back of his neck to rub the thin layer of skin there covering the vertebrae, not fully appeased but somewhat better having it been said.
And the weary look he gave Tsukauchi wasn't unnoticed and the man eager to help his distraught friend by nodding his head, indicating Izuku wasn't lying.
It was a very small comfort though, and it was awful knowing Tenko was stuck in All For One's bubble of influence and there being so little they could do without nuking everything.
"Is there nothing we can do?" Yagi asked, at a lost.
Izuku regretfully shook his head, he reached into his bag and laid a stack of papers on the coffee table between the couches.
"This is a copy of all of the orders that Kurogiri is under, and All For One was very clear to cover any kind of way we could've rescued Tenko, whether Tenko was willing or not." Izuku answered sadly as he passed the papers over.
Yagi stared at the pile despondently and didn't reach for it, instead brought one of his hands up to his face and sighed.
"And I thought asking for help with finding a successor would be the most taxing thing about today... " Yagi muttered dismally.
Izuku blinked.
"You're looking for a successor?" Izuku questioned, his words bringing everyone's attention out of their thoughts and to Yagi.
Yagi nodded solemnly "Yes, If your plan was to fail it would not do well to leave the world without something to help fight off All For One." Yagi explained.
Izuku pursed his lips, but found he couldn't really argue with the man's point, as detestable as it would be to bring someone in on this and make another target for All For One they would need a backup plan for if everything fell apart.
"No offense brat, but we can't take chances with the bastard." Gran Torino commented while Izuku was mulling the thought over.
Izuku waved a hand "None taken, but I assume you'll need help finding someone that can handle the quirks without brain damage then?" Izuku guessed, only to watch as everyone except for Nezu and Haruki-San seemed to stare at him confused and shocked by the question.
"What?" Izuku asked not understanding why they seemed to be surprised by what he just said.
"Pardon me saying this Midoriya-Kun but I think you've misunderstood how my quirk works, One For All is only one quirk not multiple." Yagi tried to correct and it was Izuku's turn to look gob smacked at him.
What?
Izuku looked to the others, only to see that they were going along with the idiocy that Yagi had just said.
Bar Nezu and Haruki-San.
Did no one in this room know anything about quirks?
Izuku, pushing aside his despair at the purposely failing education system with taking a deep breath and asked "Do you think that One For All is a stock piling quirk that just gathers power and can be passed on?"
"Yes?" Yagi replied sounding less sure with how Izuku's eye twitched, but Izuku was too busy holding back a scream.
"That... that is not how quirks work, that's not how any of this works!" Izuku exclaimed throwing his hands in the air out of frustration and was just short of leaping to his feet but Haruki-San placed both hands on his shoulders to keep him from doing so.
"Midoriya-San," Nezu softly said placing a paw on his knee, in a weak effort to calm him but one that ultimately worked and Izuku sat himself down and took a deep breath.
Trying to clear his mind so that he could calmly explain everything in a way these people would understand.
"Okay, okay, I'm good." Izuku said running his hands through his hair before he clapped his hands together.
"If All For One's brother had the quirk you think he had, you and none of the users would have ever had the strength stockpile that you're currently using and you would instead only have Shimura's quirk." Izuku flatly explained to them.
"What?" Yagi said shocked, with everyone else watching him like he grew a second head.
Izuku took another deep breath and reached into his bag for some Play-Doh and magnets.
"Most people think of quirks that stockpile like Play-Doh, something that you just add to, and they keep getting bigger, and for the most part they are right." Izuku told them, rolling a small ball of yellow together with blue one until it was a green ball in his hands.
"But there are two main types of stockpile quirks," Izuku countered holding the ball in one hand "The kind that actually stockpiles different forms of energy, like your strength quirk," Izuku held the ball up in example.
"And the kind that collects real things like quirks, like All For One's own." Izuku stated, raising the magnets, Izuku then put the Play-Doh ball down and over to the side.
"Since you do have the strength stockpile that was originally given to the brother than the quirk, he had was a collector and passes all of the quirks the holder has not just the one he was born with." Izuku told them.
"But didn't the two meld together?" Yagi questioned and Izuku set his magnets down took his gun out again, making a lot of people jump and passed it over to Haruki-San.
Because frankly it was a very possible that if Yagi asked another stupid question, he would probably shoot the man to do the world a favor.
"Quirks, are not, liquid. And they do not 'mix', or 'fuse', or 'melt' together." Izuku answered through gritted teeth "For the same reason that a kid won't get purple hair if their parents have red and blue hair, because that's not how quirks or genes work." Izuku seethed.
Izuku had to have this talk with way, way too many students and parents of students about their kids quirks, and frankly it must have shown since the others seemed to be uncomfortable with him glaring at the three on the couch across for him.
He tried to rein himself in once again and took a deep breath.
"Quirks in families tend to be alike, so with the brother's quirk being passable then it is likely a collector quirk All For One's and can hoard quirks too. And from what I can observe this theory holds true, as both quirks collect quirks and can pass them on to others, but the brother's quirk is more defensive." Izuku explained molding the Play-Doh to keep stress from building up.
"Trading off the ability to take more for it's defenses against being taken itself from its current holder, but this ultimately won't stop the main problem of collection quirks from hurting the future users." Izuku told them.
"I'm guessing that it has something to do with the brain damage that you mentioned earlier?" Shuzenji asked, cautious with him looking rather murderous now.
Izuku sighed with his hand coming up to his forehead and answered with a tired "Yes."
"Kurogiri has been able to tell me what happens to someone that gains too many quirks because he's been able to see All For One's 'quirk' experiments in putting quirks into other people." Izuku elaborated, his stomach twisting as the thoughts rushed back to him.
And judging from the looks on the faces of the others, they had a pretty good idea of what kind of experiments All For One has done.
"Quirks, as we know them, are a series of genetic mutations that lead to rapid evolution in people in a specific way, not just a single gene like most myths proclaim them to be. Because of this fact giving and taking quirks isn't simple." Izuku told them, pausing to make sure everyone was following before continuing.
"If someone with an ice quirk was given a fire quirk it would most likely kill them because the two sets of genes would tear the body apart slowly, like a cancer." he said and though it was a distasteful example it was an accurate one that would get his point across.
"The quirkless though can be molded since our bodies adaptability haven't been spent up by the rapid evolution, however even our bodies have limits and we can become brain dead as well if the quirks are too conflicting." Izuku explained folding his hands together.
"Because of this, you need to be absolutely certain that whomever you give the quirk to can handle the extra stress of eight quirks being added to their body, or your successor will become brain dead instantly upon transference." Izuku sternly advice Yagi, making sure to keep strong eye contact with the man.
A thick silence fell over the room and frankly Izuku chose to leave it that time just to make sure the weight of his words would fully sink in.
If Yagi was intent on passing Inheritance on to someone else, then he needed to know exactly how much he was going to screw them over.
All For One wouldn't just be hunting them down but there were the medical implications to worry about too.
Because like hell would Izuku just let this man drag someone into this blind because everyone else in the room was a complete moron.
