Apologizes for any drop in quailty, My beta hasn't gotten back to me yet but I don't want to keep you guys waiting either.
Mirai had not been having the best week admittedly.
In hindsight, when he first decided to try find a successor for Yagi, he had not given quirks and the science behind them much thought.
So, after the first disastrous meeting Sir had to admit that he had not given the area as much credence as he should have.
Something that should have been more obvious since even blood transfusions required more thought than if it was fresh.
Since then, he purchased a few books on quirk science and felt much more comfortable about Mirio taking One For All.
Admittedly he could not cross reference with the data Midoriya collected from All For One's testing, however it seemed foolish to base their choices completely off of All For One's testing as well.
Copy quirks were shown to have differences, sometimes major ones in not only how they could copy a quirk but in how easy it was for the person to handle, even within families.
The Monoma family being the best-case example from Japan.
Between the Twins, one could copy mutations and the other emitters with transformations being a soft middle ground between the two of them.
So, Midoriya's theory of One For All being similar to All For One might not be completely wrong but it would also be asinine to presume that the consequences of transferring the two were the same as well.
All For One traded quirks and One For All moved a hoard, two different things that should not be considered equals.
Yes, All For One might destroy the brain if he moved quirks to different people without caution.
But that did not mean that One For All would have the same consequences for its wielders.
Making sure to do some more background research, though it was limited since the books that he bought were more general than delving into any specifics that he would want to understand.
Unsurprising since All For One and quirks that genuinely took and traded quirks instead of copying them were unsurprisingly rare.
And he could not think of another example of a quirk that could be transferred like One For All.
The book about Antithesis quirks ended up being the most helpful in this regard, giving examples of bad quirk matchups, a fire and ice quirk being the example most used through the book with a few mutation and emitters cases as well.
Which did unhelpfully confirm a few points that Midoriya had made but not everything was considered fact in those books.
And by the time for their second meeting, he thought he had built a decent case for dealing with any draw backs the extra quirks would add to Mirio's diet, and he had already made decent work in getting Mirio up to the right level of muscle mass to handle the quirks.
However, Midoriya proceeded to not let him even get the chance to even bring Mirio to their attention, much less explain why Mirio deserved to be the next wielder.
But he supposed the blame was not solely Midoriya's there.
He had felt slighted by what Yagi said about not having friends to rely on, which he begrudgingly had to conceded was on him and not Yagi.
Yagi had likely been referring to how his journey with One For All started when it was just himself and Torino, and before he managed to get himself a place as Yagi's sidekick the only other person Yagi was close too was some man he worked with in college.
It certainly was not a comment on his own relationship with Yagi as he had taken it to mean at the time.
Yagi would never speak one negative word about someone, even if they deserved it.
Which he would have, after reflecting on the matter once Midoriya refused to allow the matter to settle and caused the meeting to end earlier than planned.
Mirai had indeed crossed quite a line, even if he did not understand where Yagi's aversion had come from, as his friend he should have at least apologized for breaking his word to Yagi before telling the man to give up his career.
But Yagi's death in his vision had been so visceral that he could not help being consumed from the thought of it and the desperate need to prevent it even when the exact details of the death kept slipping from him since he was not able to finish getting the vision.
Such behavior was not unexpected from him, they had seen him lose his wits before dozens of times when he watched such violent deaths.
Yagi had sat up with him more than once when they were unable to stop such horrid deaths, deaths they could not stop no matter how much they tried.
Still even then Mirai should have known to apologize later once clearer heads had prevailed, and not needed a child to point out to him.
And Mirai did have plans to do so.
However, Yagi was thoroughly uninterested in hearing one from him considering how quickly he fled from the room after Nezu dismissed him.
Not that he could say he really blamed Yagi for such a reaction.
Midoriya had induced a panic attack from him by refusing to drop the matter.
Though he doubted anyone would punish the boy for it, or forcefully exposing one of Yagi's triggers to the forefront.
Even so Mirai could see that Yagi was not ready to talk about the day he had fought All For One and would respect that, and even if Yagi were ready to speak about that day they would have to hold off until One For All was passed on.
They could have that conversation later and Mirai could properly apologize then.
But Midoriya unfortunately, brought a new concern to his mind and led to him doing his best to dig into Mirio's family history in order to make sure there would be no blatant hang ups that he had not accounted for the first time around.
And of course, there were no hiccups there either.
His father was a fifth generation and had a less powerful version of his son's quirk, but his surrogate mother promisingly was only third generation and had a very minor glow quirk so Mirio's genes would not have been too focused yet and leave plenty of room for One For All.
The boy though simply would not leave well enough alone.
Yes, Mirai might have been unbecoming in how he brought Mirio up, but how else was he supposed to get Yagi to reconsider being so rash with his choice of successor.
However, that did not mean he could simply allow Midoriya to run his mouth and dare accuse him of something so hideous.
"How dare you-" Mirai had tried to protest against such a slanderous claim.
"I fucking dare because from my point of view you have spent the entire time you've known Togota with the intention of grooming him to take Inheritance, or am I wrong?" Midoriya spat back, glaring at him.
"You are wrong." Mirai confidently responded glaring right back.
Midoriya's eyes narrowed.
"Then I am sure you will not mind answering a few questions." Midoriya asked, a blatant attempt to bait him.
Mirai scoffed "Gladly." he cooly responded, he had nothing to hide about his interactions with Mirio and perhaps the others would finally stop taking and treating the boy's word as if it was gospel.
"Why did you offer Togota an internship?" Midoriya questioned straight forwardly.
Mirai rolled his eyes "Naturally I saw a lot of potential in him as a hero." he answered.
Mirio would undoubtedly be one of the greatest heroes out there and One For All would only take him that much farther in his career.
"You gave him advice and training that would only benefit him to be the hero he wants to become?" Midoriya asked, crossing his arms.
Mirai rolled his eyes "Of course." he replied.
Mirio's wish to save at least one million people would be a much easier goal to achieve since he would soon be capable of holding One For All.
"And you have not had contact with him outside of the two weeks he's interned with you?" Midoriya pressed, tilting his head slightly.
Mirai winced, his hands clenching slightly.
Aware his silence was more damning than he would like it to be.
Especially with how the others were all looking at him now.
"The... training plans that I drew up for him were difficult for him and he would often come to me for advice, especially for alternatives for his current diet." Mirai answered preemptively.
"So?" Midoriya questioned.
"I gave him a way to contact me if he needed any encouragement in his training." Mirai told them, something that was not uncommon or even inherently an immoral action when some kids needed more help than others.
"Encouragement that he could not get from anyone else in his life? And Togota was always the one who contacted you first? Using a number that was your professional line and not your personal one?" Midoriya demanded heatedly.
Mirai could not help shifting in his seat.
Yes, those questions would be very damning to him taken out of context.
Mirio had his father and his friends who could give him some encouragement, but he was a pro who had been in the business for over a decade now.
So, it was only natural that his words of encouragement mean far more to Mirio.
And maybe giving Mirio his personal phone number was not exactly his best move, but he did not keep his work phone on him at all times.
Or him being the one to start most of their conversations by asking Mirio about his day and how his progress was going.
However it was important for him to stay on top of Mirio's development and training.
"You are purposely taking those things out of-" Mirai tried to defend himself, bristling slightly.
"Togota has never visited your agency in person outside of his internships with you?" Midoriya questioned practically hissing the words out.
Mirai clenched his hands.
Okay... Mirai could not really defend that choice of his.
He did have professional equipment that would cost Mirio hundreds to use at some expensive gym but having Mirio coming to his agency was not something that could be easily explained away with all of the questions Midoriya was asking him.
Especially since his agency was supposed to be more underground as an info-gathering twilight agency.
Midoriya tsked.
"We will come back to that but since you brought up Togota's training, let's talk about that." Midoriya told him and before Mirai could try to defend himself.
"Exactly how much of the training plan you 'came up with' for Togota would match up with Yagi-San's old one? Over seventy percent? Ninety?" Midoriya spat at him.
Mirai stiffened "Mirio needed to work on his physical strength and would only be natural that I consult-" Mirai tried to argue but Midoriya interrupted him again.
"Did you send him an internship offer because you planned to make him Yagi-San's successor? Yes or no." the boy demanded from him.
Mirai fell silent.
There was no way he could answer that without it sounding wrong with the barrage of questions Midoriya threw at him.
"Better question," Midoriya sneered stepping closer to him "Does Togota know that the only reason that you took him on was because you wanted him to take Inheritance?" Midoriya pressed striding over to glare at him face-to-face.
"How could I reveal One For All to-" Mirai tried to protest.
"Have you ever considered that the visions you get from your quirk are self-fulfilling prophecies?" Midoriya coldly asked him.
"Excuse me?" Mirai said back, completely taken off guard by the sudden shift of questions and barely had the time to understand that he should feel offended by what the boy just said.
"None of your visions have failed to come true so far, right? Even the small details are accurate? No matter how much you and everyone tried to change the future?" Midoriya pressed with a level of calm that was making him distinctly uncomfortable.
"Have you ever considered that is because of your own actions that your visions come true? That if Yagi-San listened to you in the first place he wouldn't have the strength to fight off a mugger, much less All For One because after that many years he would not have a lick of One For All left in his body." Midoriya told him.
Mirai's heart stopped, his breath catching in his throat.
"That, that is absurd." Mirai hissed back.
"Is it?" Midoriya flatly asked, letting his head fall to the side.
"You know that All For One works with a man that is only called the doctor, he has been able to find a way to make 'copies' of quirks that can be given to nomus the same way that Inheritance is passed on." Midoriya suddenly brought up.
Midoriya straightened up his head.
"Do you know that even with quirkless bodies that the people used for them normally end up brain-dead four quirks in because they aren't compatible, regardless of if All For One or the Doctor made the nomu? Of course you don't, I haven't told you that before now." Midoriya hissed his nose almost touching Mirai's now.
"So, if, if Yagi-San did listen to you back in the hospital after the fight and retired that year, passing on Inheritance the same year maybe." Midoriya supposed.
"You would have killed the poor sap you convinced to take Inheritance, and Yagi-San would have been left powerless and stricken with guilt for killing that person. Left feeling worse than useless for years as he sat around doing nothing but wallowing in his misery until, surprise, surprise, All For One rose from the dead with Nana's brainwashed grandson in tow." Midoriya told him, with all the mirth of a vindictive child.
"And of course, how could Yagi-San ever think of not running in to help? Especially not after messing up everything else in his life." Midoriya said with a scoff.
Then Midoriya straightened up and tilted his head.
"And, this is a wild thought here, but do you know if your quirk works the same way on quirkless people as it does on quirked people?" Midoriya brought up suddenly.
What?
"How about we test it here and now? I doubt you have used your quirk on many quirkless people before, go ahead and try it on me. Go on, tell me my future Sasaki." Midoriya dared rolling up his sleeve on one arm and thrusting it forward.
Mirai stared at the boy, completely shocked as his mouth opened and closed.
His mind stumbling to catch up with everything that Midoriya was throwing at him.
Mirai's eyes went down to the outstretched arm, a multitude of scars and discoloration in patches on the boy's skin.
How Midoriya knew one of the requirements of his quirk was touch, would be a problem for another time.
Mirai reached forward, placing all of his fingertips on Midoriya's forearm then locked eyes with Midoriya's allowing his quirk to fire away.
A buzzing hum filled his ears as white film overtook his vision.
Expecting to see the boy in the office with him and the others since he was focusing on looking to only a few minutes ahead of time.
Only to be confused as the colors spread across the film revealing a different scene altogether.
Seeing Midoriya and Yagi at some trash covered beach, a smaller version of the boy trying to push a fridge of all things with Yagi looking to be encouraging him.
This, this could not be.
Mirai forced his vision to look further in the future.
The film becoming somewhat blurry, he was not sure how much further in the future, but it could not be more than a year, the cleanup of the beach done in full, and the boy stood on top of a pile of trash yelling out to the sky with Yagi grinning up at him proud.
Mirai yanked his hand breaking the film and he was left gaping as he tried to reconcile what he had just seen.
His visions had never been so far off before.
But the scene he just saw had to be impossible, the first part showed a Midoriya that did not have the same muscles he had now and neither version of Midoriya had the same scars Midoriya currently had despite the fact it was supposed to be the future version of the boy.
"Well? What did you see?" Midoriya questioned raising a brow, bringing him out of his stupor.
"I, you, you were cleaning up some beach with Yagi cheering you on a minute from now." Mirai answered still feeling out of sorts.
Midoriya blinked, remaining silent for a moment, then huffed.
"Ah, you must have seen a future that would never come to pass." Midoriya guessed a hand coming up to his chin thoughtfully.
"Time isn't straightforward after all, dozens of timelines exist and while you can reliably tap into our timeline when you see a quirked person's future, you can't with quirkless people." Midoriya said thinking aloud.
"We would need to have you look into my future a few more times to confirm whether that is true, but you clearly did not see 'my' future." Midoriya pointed out.
Mirai found himself merely staring at the boy.
His visions were always accurate before now, to have one that was so blatantly not going to become true after so many countless years of them being one hundred percent correct was... unthinkable.
But now there was doubt entering his mind.
Yagi was quirkless like Midoriya, so there was a chance that the death he foresaw...
Was he, could he be wrong?
"Hey, Sasaki you can have your mid-life crisis later." Midoriya scolded him, the grabbing his tie and yanking him forward slightly to drag him out of his thoughts.
"We still have to talk about how you groomed one of my kids to be a god damn martyr like that blonde buffoon over there." Midoriya told him through gritted teeth, a thumb jabbed at Yagi.
Mirai mouth was dry.
"I told you if I didn't like your answers, I'd make you wish that Nezu-San let me shoot you." Midoriya reminded him.
"And I am not happy." Midoriya stated with a scene of finality.
For better insight on how I view Sir's quirk, I do think it's one of the few that 'technically' break the rules of the reality to let Sir see the future, but I don't think it's fool proof despite eveyone's belief it is.
Taking what we see in canon during the overhaul arc and Sir's shock and personality change after Izuku defies Sir's prediction of his death, I think it is very easy to come to the conclusion that his vision of Izuku's death was the first, if not the only, time when his vision was balantly /
That plus his major blood lose is why I think Sir changed his attitude towards Izuku.
With this in mind, I asked myself what exactly made Izuku different to make Sir's visions less effective considering everyone, Sir included, thinks he sees the future near perfectly.
The only answer I could come up with was Izuku's lack of the quirk gene as a two-toes, which only makes more sense depending on whether or not you think that Sir's prediction of Yagi's death was also made untrue at Kamino ward, as once again, Sir's vision for a quirkless-born person wasn't accurate.
However, Sir was able to predict Izuku's moves in the office, so he can make an accurate prediction of someone /
So, I think that Sir's quirk has another factor that he wasn't aware of since he hasn't met or used his on many quirkless people.
Sir's foresight canonically needs eyes contact and physical touch to active, but I also think it needs the quirk base gene to 'hone' in on the current timeline, and that without said gene Sir can still see the future but is less likely to see the correct one, dropping from 100% to ¼.
Both eye contact and physical touch are clearly needed to hone in on a specific person's future, it would not be hard to imagine there are other factors that could change his visions. It wouldn't surprise me that if Sir be able to hear his visions as well if Sir did something else, like I don't know, taste some of the target's blood.
And his visions for Canon Izuku were able to more accurate since he was given a 'quirk' in the form of OFA, boosting the chances of looking at the correct timeline to a 50-50 chance.
