Shout out to Tacticool_weeb for writing the first draft of this Omake.
Chapter 4: Omake 1 Texas Two Step Part 1
"WELCOME TO FORGE BRUTALITY LITTLE ZUKE!" shouted the man with a thick hillbilly accent.
Izuku grinned from ear to ear, He felt honored to be invited to such an event. The event was being held by a mix of civilian shooters, and Air Force personnel Including their pilots, SERE instructors, and TACPs. There were even some DEA agents And people from border patrol. It was one of the largest and most brutal shooting competitions in Texas, and that was saying something.
The normal gun competitions were cool. But these people felt normal competitions were 'gamified' and izuku had to agree. He's done the IPSC dog and pony show, and he's also been attacked by rouge Mexican federales working with the cartel, while He was looking for some stone arrowheads.
It is not the same.
But his old shooting instructor CJ, (who was a good friend of his dad and an armorer for the Air Force's 737th training, readiness, and support squadron) invited him out.
" During this 3-day weekend, We're going to go through various obstacles that require A lot of lifting, with some shooting sprinkled in. Full kit, No reloading back at your car between stages. So you will have to load up in the morning and use what you got. That's what separates us from the others little Zuke." CJ said excitedly
"Won't that get heavy?" Izuku asked.
"Yeah, that's the point, we train like we fight. Some of these pilots might get shot down. They need to know how to survive behind enemy lines, and the DEA boys have a deployment to Colombia coming up. The border boys work alone in the middle of the desert a lot of the time. But Enough of that, now Come on. " CJ said as He waved him over and brought him to a building away from the ranges at the Lackland Air Base in San Antonio. It was the Air Force Special Ops gym building. It also housed the on-site armory for the 737th to work on gear.
They had to walk by the gym when izuku saw a very tall woman. Probably the tallest woman he'd ever seen before, and She was also extremely muscular. Hmm… she kinda reminded him of all might.
"Hey Kate!" CJ said waving at the muscular woman.
The woman dropped the large weight bar she was holding, It hit the floor, and dirt and dust wafted into the air. As she looked over to them she had a very kind smile on her face.
"Hey CJ! Awe, who's this? Is he your little brother or something?"
"Nah, he is a kid I used to teach, He's gonna compete this weekend. We're just here to set him up with some gear." CJ said before turning to Izuku
"Hey Zuke, You're a fanboy, do You know who this is?" CJ asked teasingly causing Izuku to blush. But The tall woman just rolled her eyes Before responding.
"Come on redneck, Be nice. I'm the Hero Stars and Stripes by the way." The now revealed Stars and Stripes says, Causing Izuku's eyes to widen as he took the woman's hand.
"Wait, The stars and stripes!? As in All Mights only student!?" Izuku said, with a bit of aah in his voice.
"The one and the same!" She beamed, as she Puffed her (ample) chest out.
" You see, I needed tuition fees to pay for Hero College, so I did a few years in the Air Force. Went officer because I duel enrolled with my GI bill and got my heroics License. But still had some time left on my contract. So I became a pilot, that's where I met CJ here, And I flew for a couple of years. I Still come back to give speeches every once in a while." Kate said before She cupped a hand over her mouth in a fake whisper.
"A little known Secret. Because we didn't have much to do in the old days I damn near lived in the gym, I use to be a lot smaller you know." She winked at the boy. He Just looked up at her with stars in his eyes. He couldn't help it, this was one of the coolest moments in his life.
"So Kate what are you planning on using?" CJ asked.
She slapped her hip Wear a holstered revolver sat. Her outfit was comprised of fatigued pants, A leather belt with a holster on it, and a sleeveless shirt with a unit insignia on it.
"It's the old rhino killer you convinced me to buy." Kate said chuckling, as CJ rolled his eyes.
"Ah yes, convinced. Because 'hey don't buy that it's the largest practical revolver on the market' was really twisting your arm!" CJ said sarcastically but this just caused Izuku to cock his head in curiosity.
"what is it?" Izuku asked curious, as he eyed her holster.
Cathleen Bates motioned for them to get out of the sun That was practically beaming through the gym window. When they did she pulled her revolver out and unloaded it. The gun was almost as big as Izuku's arm.
"It's a 454 casull revolver." Kate said as she held out the stainless steel single-action behemoth. Unlike Kate, Who was a giant of a woman, (a Big girl like that) he needed both hands to study it, Izuku bet Kate could one hand this thing.
"Using a revolver doesn't slow you down?" Izuku asked Curiously, but The tall blonde just shook her head.
"Nah, it's more for survival to be honest. In most situations, I just use my quirk. But I do love the classics." Kate said as she took back her gun Before reloading it and then holstering it.
"What's your long gun?" Izuku asked.
"M1 Garand, the main service rifle of the Second World War!" Kate said beaming proudly.
"Oh… yeah. That thing gave us heck If what I heard from CJ Is true." Izuku says as Kate's eyes widen in confusion
"You? As in?... Your Japanese?" Kate asks curious.
"Oh, Yes ma'am. I have been in America so long I guess I don't have much of an accent anymore." Izuku said a little sheepish. But this only made Kate beam at him in excitement, switching over to Japanese she spoke up
"Well, you speak English better than he does." She said as she jabbed a finger at the old chief.
"Fuck yall say?" CJ said grumbling, he knew that somehow she was insulting him. After the two were done snickering at his reaction. He walked over to a storage unit and grabbed a black weapon case from one of his personal stashes and started heading over to the workshop.
"Anyway, I got something special planned for you." CJ said as he waved over Izuku.
They walked into the workshop and CJ tuned the radio to a classic song called 'Loyalty'. When he first got to America Izuku wasn't too sure about all this heavy metal. But after spending enough time in America, especially around CJ it kind of grew on him.
"All right boy, Do you remember when we did some work with the Armalite platform during your lessons? Remember the different rifles I had you shoot?" CJ asked as he pulled a base 5.56 rifle out of the weapon case.
"Oh Yeah, I really loved that one sniper rifle.. what was it? Mark 12? We also did the M110, which had a bigger bullet. I think I want something smaller so I can carry more ammo. Hmm… the mark-12 was also a bit big for me." Izuku said but before he could start up into a Mumble storm the chief held up a hand to stop him. After which he went to his collection of barrels and looked over them.
He then pulled out a 14.5-inch barrel and looked over it In thought. In the US legally the 'standard' length without paperwork was 16 inches. But if you pin and weld a muzzle divice to just reach that, especially a longer one like this three prong surefire, Boom 16 inches and legal. Good news is longer barrels also meant better accuracy and more dwell time and better velocity. In video game terms? A longer barrel means more damage. After putting the parts onto his workbench he looked over what he had and decided to also grab a mid length gas system for smoother shooting at a distance too.
"Ok, I'm going to build you a CORE15. A little old company down in Florida has great barrels and I love their handguards. Especially the ones on their low-pro scout models. This way you have a lighter weight M-loc instead of the slightly heavier quad rail. Oh yeah, do you want a grip? Remember, everything you put on it will just add weight. Although you May not even need a flashlight." The chief says as he grabs more parts and Starts to piece them together.
Putting a block into a vice he fit a blank lower receiver onto it. He then blocks the fit in the mag well so he doesn't bend metal he isn't supposed to.
"Ok kid, I'm putting on a gisselle maritime mag release switch. It's bigger but easier to hit. I'm also putting on a BCM pistol grip and stock, and a Gisselle single stage trigger. It's one of my favorites, It's nice And has this silvery chrome, so it's gonna fit this here BCM bolt carrier I got you. I also attached a pinned and welded barrel. What kind of Optics do you want and do you want Back up irons?" CJ asked, Izuku looked up at Kate.
"Have you ever used backup irons?" Izuku asks curiously.
"Nope." Kate says as she pops the P. With her answer, izuku decided to shake his head in the negative, seeing this CJ decided to continue.
"low power veriable? Or EOtech and magnifier?" CJ asked this caused Izuku to think about it. Izuku did not know anything about the lay of the land he would be working with during this event, so he decided to ask Kate.
"Miss Bate?" Izuku started to ask before being cut off by Kate.
"Please, Call me Kate. Brutality is the one time I get away from being a hero. I get to leave a lot behind, so how about here I'm not stars and stripes. I'm just Kate, another shooter." Said causing Izuku to nod at her words.
"Ok, Miss Kate, You've shot here enough so What do you suggest?" Izuku asked causing her to look at CJ.
"How good of a shot is he?" Kate asked causing CJ to light up with a proud grin.
"He might be one of the best I ever taught. The kids a natural, Damn near preternatural. He was hitting hundreds of yards away with only 2 power on the mark-12." CJ said pride evident in every word he said, this caused Kate to rub her chin In thought.
"How about you save weight, go for the EOTECH and magnifier, the LPVOs tend to be a bit heavier." Kate said Causing izuku to nod his head in agreement.
CJ practically danced around the shop, Finding tools and cranking down locking lugs and castle nuts. Finally, he pulled a Haley strategic sling from a little box and placed the QD point to the base below the buffer tube and at the end near the muzzle. These core handguards had built-in QD, Which was nice.
"Here you go zuke, this one's yours." CJ said as he handed him the rifle.
Izuku took it and inspected it, Even though he watched it be assembled he still pulled the bolt back to check the chamber. It was a habit that CJ painfully drilled into him, he also did it so he could feel it, and damn it felt good. The radian charging handle was perfect And the rifle just felt so right in his hands. So in Gross with the rifle, it took him a second to really Register CJ's words when he handed izuku the rifle.
"Wait? What do you mean mine?" Izuku asked surprised. CJ was very protective of his guns and made it a habit to make it very clear that no gun that he loaned out was anyone but his.
"Yours! Yours, yours, Little Zuke, you're getting to that age kid, and You need a rifle. Especially with everything going on, You need to defend yourself, And this is me Making sure you can. None of these parts are military, All of this is from my own personal stuff. And I ain't turning on the TV at some point to see something happened to you, knowing I could have helped. I ain't always gonna be here, but that. As long as you're in this country that will be, and if you leave again I'll hold it for ya." CJ said smiling at him.
Izuku was so touched. Chief CJ never cared about his.. 'Condition'. Hell most of the military members, current and former he met never cared. After his father died in Russia and he came back to America CJ practically demanded he move in with him. The man was like a second father. A crazy, gun-wielding fanatic of a father who wouldn't hesitate to shoot anyone who messed with him. But a father nonetheless. He and His military Pals even helped him get out of Mexico once after the arrowhead incident. He was taken out of his thoughts by the voice of Kate who spoke up.
"So he gets into a lot of trouble?" Miss Kate asked Curiously.
"Does a wild bear crap in the woods?" CJ Asked with a deadpan tone. Looking down at the boy, Izuku could not help but to look sheepish.
"I'm sorry to hear that… is it quirk related?" Kate asked A bit confused.
Izuku did not want to lie especially to the number one hero of Japan. But he also did not want to be insulted by her too. If she found out that he was quirkless and ended up hating him for it. He knew if that happened he wouldn't be able to handle it, Especially today. Because today was the anniversary of his father's death and the biggest reason why CJ invited him to this in the first place was to get his mind off of it. So no he did not need the number one hero in the USA insulting him the entire day. So he lied and nodded his head to her question.
"Do you talk about it?" Kate asked sympathetically. Izuku Shook his head in the negative so She immediately dropped it.
"I understand… I don't always like talking about mine either. Lets get you a handgun. What do you say chief!?" Kate said as she beamed In an attempt to put a smile on the boy's face.
"Hmm…. You used a lot of glocks right?" CJ asked stroking his chin
"Yea," Izuku said.
"How about a 1911? " CJ asked as his Fast hands shifted around.
He handed Izuku a 1911, Izuku rubbed His fingers against the materials of the gun to get a good feel of it. The wood felt nice in his hands, and it had a good classy look to it. It had Tridium night sights for when it got dark, a Two-tone paint scheme, a Green lower and black upper slide With slide serrations. It had a short grooved trigger, It was modified to have the pin on the grip safety, it had ambi thumb safety, a Ring hammer, and a chrome threaded barrel. Izuku looked at the threaded barrel in curiosity and CJ was quick to respond.
"It is just in case you ever need a suppressor to pop a mother fucker stealthily, and 45 is already subsonic." CJ said as he handed him a suppressor to go with the 1911, As well as a spare leather holster That was designed to be tucked inside his waistband.
CJ also found a trunk full of old gear. He pulled out a nylon Haley strategic chest rig. He then put in the extra Velco so he can add 2 more magazines to it, Added a brace for the 1911 mags, and before the day was out gave him a custom tan and green molted paint job for the rifle. Then finaly, the chief turned to kate.
"Do you got a partner this year yet?" CJ asked causing Kate to shake her head.
"No… not yet." Kate said.
"Hmm... well congrats, You get the kid. Y'all both even speak the same languages!" CJ said with a chuckle.
"And who are you shooting with!?" Kate asked cocking an eyebrow. Don't get her wrong she would gladly take the kid. But CJ was the one who brought him to this event, And she expected him to be his partner.
"lexi Anderson." CJ said with a blush.
Izuku and Kate both looked at one another And smiled. It was quite obvious to the two of them that CJ had a thing for Anderson, who they both knew was a beautiful woman. It was why they were Sporting a knowing grin which caused CJ to squirm.
An Hour Later
Izuku huffed and puffed as he had to run about a half mile to his next location. Kate was feeling the breeze in her ponytail and it was just another run for her. Her belt was lined with pouches for her 30-06 rounds. Because she used bigger rounds the rules stipulated she only had to hit most targets once, instead of most people like izuku who had to hit them twice.
"GAS! GAS! GAS!" CJ yelled. The man stroked his Beard With a smirk plastered on his face as he pulled out a CS gas grenade, Pulled the pin, and chucked it at the two. The chief was dressed in blue jeans, a green button-up shirt, and what looked like a photographer's vest. But was laden down with gear and equipment. He also wore one of those old Scottish-style flat pageboy caps.
He flung the grenade out into their path. The smoke wafted in the air. Izuku in his breathless state took a big breath in and felt the burn in his lungs. The sweat on his brow turned to acid, and once a droplet flowed near his eye he thought he would die. But he ran past it about 100 more yards to the shooting bay. Bending at the hip he coughed, plugged one nostril, then blew snot out, and spit more mucus than he thought was possible.
Pulling a magazine from his hip he inserted it. Looking at Kate He could see that she was blinking fast and trying to wipe the stinging away with her sleeve. She had put a more long-sleeved shirt on to keep the sun off her fair skin. Texas was baking them as much as the smoke. This Obstacle meant they needed to pull a truck that was in Neutral Territory past a certain line and pull out the driver dummy. Then engage 10 targets.
Izuku grabbed the rope, attempted to pull the car, and failed miserably. But Kate chuckled and flexed her arms (Which were thicker than his torso) Before pulling the target all the way down to the position by herself before proceeding to pulled the dummy out, And engage the targets. Izuku Shouldered His rifle before Taking a few breaths And holding his last one. He needed to hit five targets Twice which were at Various distances.
*Bang Bang* …. *Gong*Gong* "Hit!" The spotter who was monitoring the targets yelled out and was also a little impressed since he hit every Target with a kill shot that landed dead center for the chest and head.
The targets weren't that far, Only 80 yards. But being gassed and having to shoot with your eyes burning and blurry as hell? Yeah, it wasn't easy and it was why the Spotter was pretty impressed with the kid. CJ had told him that the kid was good but this was a little nuts. If it wasn't for the Quirk canceling bracelets that everyone wore. The man would have sworn that he had some type of accuracy quirk.
Izuku shifted from the hip And turned to his next target And looked down his Red Dot sights. While Kate had to use her Iron sights, She still had a few rounds in her rifle from the last obstacle, So after hitting her last Target, the M1 Garand En-bloc clip ejected. And with all the shooting especially with her 30-06 no one heard the fabled ping. The old myth about the Garand is that the En-bloc clip ejecting is loud and noticeable. But in high-stress scenarios and with a lot of shooting, No one is going to hear the fabled ping. It is good in video games and movies though.
"Time! 12.45! third place so far!" called CJ, aside from competing some also doubled as range officers. Izuku and Kate high five, Because they both knew they were kicking ass together.
The next course was starting in a busted out old Toyota corolla. You needed to Pull your handgun, Shoot the targets in front of you, (through the glass) Pull your rifle from in-between the seat and the center console, open the door, and shoot the same targets again. Then you had to get to the back of the vehicle and Shoot 2 new targets. Then get out and bound one at a time, covering the other 100 yards back, 20 yards at a time.
For izuku? it was great. The 1911 was amazing, It grouped like nothing else, And his more compact AR was maneuverable out of the vic. But Kate's M1? Oh lord no. It was an awesome rifle, But not made for fighting out of a vehicle. And izuku now has the number one American hero with one arm through a seatbelt falling face first out of a shot up car on his phone.
It was beautiful.
There were other Events That you didn't use a rifle for, that were less about big spectacle obstacles or courses. Like the plate line, You shoot 8 plates And when the last one gets shot a ninth plate pops out the side of the table. You shoot that and it resets it for your partner. Which is great when izuku has a Chip McCormick 11-round magazine.
But Kate has a revolver and not even one where you can use speed loaders because the cylinder was a falling style. No, hers was the Ruger, Which meant loading one round at a time. Their times suffered because of that. But over all, they were doing amazingly, and Izuku was having the time of his life.
After the day's events, they all ended up going to this little food spot that was a favorite of the local gun club and former military Personnel. It was part sports bar and part pizzeria.
The adults had 1 shot each, They still had to either drive, or compete the next day, And most were concealing. So technically they shouldn't have had any. But it was tradition, Which Izuku ended up being given a shot glass That had a touch of alcohol but was mostly soda so he could fit in.
Kate was laughing and giving izuku props and hugs for all the good he had done. She was loving having him as a partner. The next day was sniper day and they where discussing who needed to be shooter and who needed to be spotter. Izuku was the better shot, And kate couldn't use her quirk to say 'and izuku won't miss a shot' quirks weren't really aloud in these kinds of competitions.
Hence why everybody was wearing quirk-suppressing bracelets. The bracelets weren't anything special it was just the same Tech that was in quirk suppressing handcuffs that the cops and heroes use. The bracelets were also really easy to take off and even had a button to be deactivated if need be.
Chief CJ was Inhaling Curly fries and quesadillas. Kate had a family-sized platter of a bit of everything all to herself. No one was surprised, after all Kate was a big girl and you don't get that kind of mass without carbo-loading to high hell. Izuku had some mild wings Which he found absolutely delicious.
Most everyone in the joint was from the competition. Locals knew what week it was and tended to stay clear of this place out of respect. There were A few older greying retirees Who Competed, they attended to have themes, some dressed up like the second world war. Not even as americans sometimes. But as british, Japanese, and Russians. And it wasn't only the Greybeards that dressed up. There are many other people who dressed up, like the group of people in the corner who dressed up in uniforms from the Cold War. There was even a group of people who looked like they were some type of spy from one of those classic James Bond movies. They were wearing suits, sunglasses, and the like. One of them was wearing the iconic outfit from GOLDFINGER that consisted of a white suit and red tie. If he remembers correctly the guy was even concealing a PPk. Which he used in the competition along with an MP40.
There were still a few out-of-towners. Some of them were giving their large group odd and dirty looks. Izuku didn't think they were being that loud, But it was still a little weird. Some of them were looking at the whole group and A few were sending glances his way… made sense, He was the youngest. He was a bit self-conscious about that, so he just kept his gaze on his food and Scooted his chair a bit closer to Kate. Seeing him a bit uncomfortable Kate just gave him a warm smile which he returned.
Izuku had driven in CJ's land cruiser to get here and They had his gear in the back along with CJ's and Kate's. But most folks knew under the jeans and button-up shirt and vest combo was a concealed 1911. Izuku kept adjusting his, Shooting the old war horse from a battle belt was great. But he wasn't sure about this weight when it came to concealing it. He missed his lighter glocks or sigs. Hell, even the odd HK when he was in Germany this one time. He would say something nice about the Makarov he used in Russia… but he had carried it and didn't feel like lying.
"I'm going to use the bathroom." Izuku says As he gets up and heads to the rear of the establishment.
What was almost missed by him was a man standing up next to him and heading that way too. Izuku side stepped him and let the man go first. Izuku then walked to the bathroom Only for three others to be there. They weren't using the bathroom, so It was obvious that they were Waiting for somebody. Izuku shot off glances at the 3 And quickly realized that they were here for him. But Before he could open his mouth to cuss one of the men pulled out a dart gun and shot him with a tranquilizer. Izuku's back made contact with the wall, and his world went a bit hazy.
"Ok, we have the subject. Bag him and tag him." One of the men said as he opened the side door out into the alleyway. They handcuffed him and pulled a bag over his head and A van was Waiting out back for them. As they were getting the boy out the door the bathroom door opened Revealing CJ.
"Time to drain the old liz….What the fuck?" CJ said as he straightened up and looked at the sight behind him. One of the men who was holding Izuku spoke up as he turned towards CJ.
"Take him out, I'll handle this. Nothing to see here sir." The man said as He pulled out a little black wallet-like object.
"U.S marshals, Just detaining a wanted fugitive." The man said as He flashed his creds like it was nothing. The man also held an off accent. One similar to his old friend Hizashi. (god rest his soul) That same friend whom he promised he would look after his son and teach him.
"Can I see that?" CJ asked Stepping Towards the so-called Marshalls. CJ new that the Marshals don't operate like this. Hell even the CIA doesn't flash badges, These boys have seen too many movies. It was obvious They wanted to scare any civilians into not asking too many questions. Bold strategy but there is one big problem. The man stepped forward and showed off the card that said 'US marshals' which isn't how their badges worked.
So CJ reached out, grabbed the man by the wrist, Pulled out his pistol, shoved it in the man's face, and pulled the trigger.
Keeping a hand on the now deadman he pulled him to the side. Transitioning to the next man to his left he plugged him quickly with two bullets. The man fell right next to the bathroom door entrance. Bringing his hands together as quickly as possible he stepped left and shifted his aim right. Putting two More to another man's Head and chest. Stepping over him He shot The man at the bathroom door entrance in the head, just to make sure he would stay down. He then pulled a spare mag from his vest and kicked the bathroom door open to shout into the bar.
"THEY GRABBED IZUKU!"
