49 B Christmas
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. This idea came after listening to many Christmas songs and the Christmas song Tennessee Christmas by Amy Grant. So here it is another story from the 49 B series. It can be read as a stand alone but you might want to read the first two stories first, just to be caught up. Enjoy.
Three years later
Chuck had it all planned, they would leave early from LA and fly into Denver only to drive for six hours. But flights in and around Salt Lake City and Denver were being cancelled or rescheduled. So, he decided on taking on the 15 hour drive. He packed the car up with the basics, and four suitcases. One for Sarah and him, one for toys and other baby stuff and one for the twins clothes. He also packed the winter tote that housed all their winter wear. Boots, scarves, jackets, ski pants and warm blankets. Adding the emergency kit and a Satellite phone. Chuck closed the back of the car running in to grab one kid while Sarah brought the other out. Chuck placed them in their cars seats with items to keep them busy. He had made them little trays with edges so that their toys didn't fly off and each had an iPad to watch their shows. Sarah locked up and the two walked back to the car as Chuck held the door open for her. She snuck in a kiss that he appreciated then closed the door. He jumped into his seat looking behind him at the twins. "You two ready to go see Grandpa and Papa?" They both squealed. Chuck looked at Sarah. "You ready?" Sarah nodded. Chuck pulled out of their driveway and headed to the highway. They left early beating the traffic making good time. Chuck planned on being there by night fall but with twins they had to consider bathroom breaks, changes, and some fresh air along the way.
They had been on so many missions that they had to stop and finally get married. So, one warm summer evening three years ago their lives changed and it was the start of this new journey. It was a lovely summer wedding with Chuck's family and Sarah's mom, Molly, and Dad and her Papa. Even Casey and Morgan made the trip. But this time it was different. The twins were sleeping in the back just a year and half old and Sarah expecting their third, she was doing a lot of sleeping. He hated to stress her with the travel so he let her sleep. She'd probably would have been the driver if given the choice but she learned to let go of the small stuff . She had to thank Chuck for that. This time around she was only three months along and the doctor cleared her for travel, but in truth he didn't want to argue with her. He just encouraged her to sleep when she could.
Chuck looked in the rear view mirror at the twins. They were blessed with Brycen James named after Bryce and Casey and Samantha after Sarah. Irving didn't make the list. He smiled thinking about how Sarah told him the news. They had been on so many missions back to back. Those never going to end ones that put everything on hold and that meant everything. They had just come back from Asia looking into another threat that they feared was connected to Fulcrum, and the Ring. When Chuck found his dad's files in the basement and despite losing most of his dad's stuff in a fire. Chuck felt that his dad knew that these things would happen and he planned for them. His dad had hidden the laptop so the Ellie could find it and he also had a storage unit that Chuck, Sarah and Casey found by accident. In that unit were similar items and new threats that the team took on. Chuck and Casey added a room in Castle doing some Reno's to make room for a high tech safe which they transferred the items from the unit to a more convenient location. So, despite all the missions and the new ones Chuck knew Sarah wanted some romance. Chuck continued reminiscing. He ordered some Spyro and lit some candles and started the music. Fiddling with the wine Sarah walked in. He had not seen her since breakfast the day before. He had a meeting in DC and flew out for that. Taking on more administrative duties along with the spying so that Sarah didn't have to. Sarah saw the candles then smiled when she saw her husband. She dropped her purse and ran to him. They embraced holding each other close. Sarah kissed him in between asking him when did he arrive. Chuck tried to form the words but her lips won. He broke their kiss and looked at her. "Just got home. Ordered Spyro and." She smiled kissing him again. Resting her forehead on his she smiled knowing her husband was home. Chuck took her hand and made her sit down as they enjoyed their overdue date night. The evening progressed but they didn't make it to the bedroom. Sarah laid Chuck down on the couch enjoying taking his dress shirt off. She liked him when he was all dressed up in a suit. He looked so handsome. Chuck looked up watching his wife undress him. It was so sexy how she took little effort in unbuttoning his shirt. Then when she reached the last button, she kneaded her fingers over his chest and abdomen. She adjusted her hips which made him moan as she slipped her fingers to his pants. She got to the zipper when Chuck flipped her but this time his flip made them both fall to the floor. Sarah felt all of him as her body hit the floor. Weeks later Sarah came home not feeling well and this was not the norm for her. Chuck bought every cold and flu medicine he could think of, then Sarah made him sit down. "Chuck this might not be the flu?" Sarah gave him some time to process. "Then what?" Sarah sat patiently. Chuck was a very smart man but it took him a little longer to read his wife's face when it came to something else.
When it finally clicked, he got up and grabbed his jacket. "It's late Chuck we can wait till morning." Chuck looked at her. "I won't be able to sleep and you definitely won't be able to sleep."
A month later
They sat in silence as the doctor told them that their babies were doing fine, no complications. "Babies, like in more than one?" Chuck stood up freaking out. Then Sarah grabbed his hand. "You said babies, right?" Chuck sat down.
"Yes sorry. You two are expecting twins." After the doctor gave them some time to process, he went on to explain to Sarah what she would expect as the babies grew.
That was a year and half ago and now they were expecting their third.
Present Day
Chuck knew he could change the song playlist to something more adult. He found a Christmas channel on Sirius and turned it up just enough not to wake his growing family. The snow finally stopped outside coming into Utah allowing him to make good time. But like most road trips, you get going, traffic is decent and you need a pit stop. He pulled into the first gas station he saw and remembered stopping there the time he drove there after he and Sarah professed their love for each other, which Chuck still can't believe that he finally got the girl. Sarah woke startled at first but settled when Chuck grabbed her hand. "Just have to stop, you need to stretch?" Sarah looked out of the window, "Where are we?" "Just outside Salt Lake City we are halfway there." Sarah looked behind her their two miracles were still sleeping. "I'm not sure what you did to make them still like this?" Chuck smiled then laughed. "I spiked their formula with a shot of brandy." Sarah gave Chuck a stern look. "You go first then I will go." Sarah leaned over and gave Chuck a kiss. She had rated his kisses since they got together and what and how much she would put into them. She started with the little PDA kisses that they shared and how much Chuck would return her kiss. Usually a quick peck, which would be the milder ones. Then the Roan kiss. She still calls it that after all these years. That kiss that could easily lead to taking it to the next level. Even a cold shower wouldn't have helped that day. That kiss usually got Chuck heading in the right direction and there was no complaints on her end. The wedding kiss would always be special. It was sweet, kind, and full of emotions. Those kisses were most common and frequent. Every chance they had they kissed. They would pass each other and kiss. Then those kisses that would combine the Roan kiss, their wedding kiss and other kisses, the more mature ones would last for hours. And in their case, we're partly responsible for giving them Brycen James and Sam. Chuck broke their kiss as he opened the door and stepped out closing the door quietly. Then coming around opening her door. Chuck held out his hand as she grabbed it and stood up. She stretched then couldn't help reaching for a hug. Chuck reciprocated enjoying the closeness. Sarah strode in stride not missing a beat. Chuck watched his wife and she basked in the feeling that she was being watched with such love from her husband.
Chuck returned with an arm load of food. He still had an appetite and he finally got her pulled to the far side with process foods. Her favourite cheese puffs. Chuck sat down and passed her the stash and set the coffees down into their holders. One regular and one decaf.
Sarah carefully opened it as her children had ears like hawks when it came to anything being opened. Just like their father. Brycen James fair hair with curls like his dad and beautiful brown eyes. And Sammy was what Chuck called his little Sarah. Blonde hair and blue eyes. Not identical they were two peas in a pod.
Chuck took a sip of his coffee and started up the GPS and off they went.
Chuck rolled into Denver which they would have landed there hours before if it wasn't for the weather. The snow had stopped but the roads were still slippery and the snow. They had six hours to go. Chuck pulled over as one or both needed a change and the fresh was a welcome relief. Chuck changed the twins. "How can someone who is this small make this much." "He is your son, Chuck." He took Brycen leaving Sarah with Sam as he disposed of the dirty diapers. They fed them then let them stand up in the back seat burning off some energy. After a half hour they clicked them back in their seats, put on some sensory music and got back on the road. Chuck headed south looking forward to their Christmas holiday at the farm.
Sarah woke to hear Chuck singing as Brycen and Sammy tried their best to follow their dads voice as they headed into familiar surroundings. She had ridden these hills with Rex hundreds of times and the feelings of growing up there flooded back. Chuck smiled. "Almost there." After the third round of jingle bells, they drove under the farm sign. Sarah was like a child on Christmas morning. Chuck drove up to the house late afternoon driving six hours From Salt Lake. It looked the same. He put the car in park and turned the car off. He turned to face the twins. Smiling he spoke to them. "You ready to see Grandpa and Papa?" The twins squealed in excitement. Sarah opened the door at the same time Papa stepped out. Sarah rushed to see him. His arms were like two large trees wrapped around her. Chuck looked up and smiled returning to grab the twins. He walked up the steps with one in each hand, each squealing when they heard Papa's voice. "Welcome and Merry Christmas Chuck." "Merry Christmas Papa." Chuck walked back to the car and started the daunting task of unloading the car.
Chuck brought the last few items in, taking his boots off. He hung up his jacket and followed the noise. There in the kitchen were the twins sitting side by side in a hand made baby seat table combo. Sarah walked up to Chuck and slid her arm in his. "Papa made them this." "Cool, thanks Papa. "Multi purpose table." "Of course." Papa continued to explain how he made the table and the twins were enthralled with what he was saying even though they had no idea what he was talking about. Chuck grabbed a chair as Sarah passed him a cup of hot chocolate. They would have been there hours earlier but Papa understood. Sarah sat down. "Where's dad?" When Papa didn't answer she feared he was on one of his Salvation Army cons. Papa saw Sarah's look on her face. "He's not doing any of that. He actually has weened himself off a bit knowing that his daughter and son in law are feds. He's actually having a late supper with your mom. Sarah dropped her fork. It hit the floor making Chuck lean down to grab it. Chuck treaded lightly. "Supper? That's good, isn't it?"
Papa watched Sarah gather her thoughts. This had been a dream of hers for years. They officially divorced when she was ten and worrying about it took some time but she understood that it wasn't her battle to worry about it and they never made it hers, but like any child she wished her parents stayed together or got back together. She looked at Chuck. Chuck grabbed her hand. "She's in town?" "No, she's in Denver. She was planning on coming here to surprise you." Sarah had seen her mom in very short visits but nothing really since the twins first birthday. So, this news felt good to hear but it also worried her. "Has this been." "Sammy, this is good news." Sarah got up as Chuck looked at Papa then followed her.
He found her in the living room throwing a log into the fire. Chuck came up behind her as he turned. He held his arms open and she fell into them. He kissed her cheek as she rested her head on his chest. They stood in silence for awhile as Chuck whispered. "You, okay?" Sarah slid her arms around him. "Yeah, it's just I have dreamed of this for so long and now." "It's happening and it's freaking you out?" Sarah sighed. "Maybe." "Babe it's just supper, I'm more shocked that your dad has leaned on his extra curricular activities." Chuck squeezed her then let her be alone.
Chuck walked out of the bathroom looking a little wet. Bathing the twins at times was harder than going on a mission. He had Brycen James under one arm wrapped up tightly and Sammy half asleep in his other arm. He laid Sammy down as he didn't want her to fall asleep too fast as she needed her bottle first. He could hear Sarah coming up the stairs. He dried her off and put her into her Christmas onesie as Sarah scooped her up and sat on the bed. Chuck then wrestled with Brycen. It was their ritual after bathing. But it was to tire him out. Chuck won making a Rocky reference making his son giggle then scooped him up and combed his hair giving him his bottle. He sat next to his girls as they fed the twins. Brycen was out first not surprising so that always helped. He laid Brycen down in the bassinet making room for his sister. Chuck took Sammy's bottle as Sarah got up and placed Sammy next to her brother. Sarah leaned down and kissed her twins. Chuck slid his arms around her and rested his head on her shoulder. "We made some cute kids, didn't we?" "We sure did." Chuck then placed his hands on the next one. "And this one." "Well, we can thank the bottle of wine and your father for this one." Chuck laughed. "I didn't hear any complaints." Sarah turned around. "But it was a surprise." Chuck kissed her. "It was but, I think we got the practice in with these two plus the baby making is pretty cool too." Sarah kissed him back then grabbed the monitor then Chuck's hand and headed downstairs.
Papa had the fire roaring as they came downstairs. Chuck sat down as Sarah sat beside him stretching her feet out across his legs. She rested her head against the back of the couch looking at the fireplace. He came back in carrying a tray. Sarah could smell the chocolate which brought her back to when she was a kid. She hugged her cup as she savoured the memories. She sat there listening to Papa and Chuck talk trying to keep her eyes open. Chuck rubbed her leg. "Baby I think it's time we get you to bed." Papa stood up. "You guys must be exhausted. I hope that there is enough blankets and such." Chuck stood up as Sarah followed. "I think we will be fine. And it has been a long day. " Sarah walked over and hugged Papa then headed upstairs. Chuck grabbed their cups and headed to the kitchen. Papa followed. "So, Sarah's parents?" "A surprise to me too. But it's a good surprise. They had talked a fair amount since the twins arrived. I think having them show up at the same time made them appreciate what they had with Sarah and what you and she brought to each other. Emma wasn't supposed to be a round for Christmas and taking care of Molly, she was busy."
"And Molly?"
"It worked out that Molly had a dance competition in Denver." "Well, I think that Sarah would like to see her mom and sister." "I think so too."
Sarah rolled into Chuck, she was still on California time and didn't want to jinx it so the twins wouldn't wake up. Chuck wrapped his arm around her as Sarah could still mould herself into him. They slept for another two hours.
Chuck got the twins dress and started to head downstairs as Sarah finally unwrapped herself from the warm blankets. She smiled as her little family waved and cooed as they exited the door. Sarah got dressed in comfortable clothing and a heavier flannel shirt. She slipped in her woolly socks and headed downstairs. Papa had made a late breakfast which he enjoyed finally cooking for more than just him. He sat next to the twins looking like Santa. Laughing a good laugh with the kids. Chuck cut up their pancakes and fruit and let them go wild. He got up and grabbed Sarah a plate. Sneaking in a kiss of course. "Good morning mama." "Good morning." She slid her hand on his cheek allowing her to get more out of the kiss. Chuck smiled when he resurfaced. Sarah walked over to Papa and gave him a huge hug from behind. He patted her arm as she gave each twin a kiss on the top of their heads. Sarah sat down grabbing her decaf and enjoying breakfast.
Sitting together watching the twins grabbed their food they heard a crackle on the fresh snow. Chuck got up to see who it was. Sarah heard the door open and his voice. She got up and saw Chuck holding the door for her dad. Chuck grabbed his items as he turned to Sarah. "Merry Christmas." Sarah fell into her dad's arms. "Merry Christmas dad." He pulled back to take a look at her seeing the little baby bump. "How's this one doing?" "So far so good." Chuck came back into the foyer as Jack extended his hand this time. "Merry Christmas Chuck." "Merry Christmas Jack." Jack took his jacket off and boots and headed into the kitchen. Greeting his grandkids. Sarah sat back down finishing her coffee.
Chuck was waiting to see how long it would take for Sarah to say something and as soon as the thought let him the doorbell rang. Chuck looked up and went to answer it. Sarah strained to hear who he was talking to and the suspense was killing her. She got up and looked down the hallway and saw her mom hugging Chuck. Molly looked down the hallway at Sarah. "Sarah." Sarah met her halfway giving her a huge hug as Emma followed. Sarah looked up. Her mom smiled. "I know you have a lot of questions." Sarah looked at her mom. She didn't care, for at that moment her whole family was together. "Merry Christmas honey." Sarah hugged her mom.
Papa put on another pot of coffee and made some more pancakes. Chuck took the twins to the living room as Molly kept them entertained with Chuck playing referee. Sarah sat at the table watching her parents. They were civil, pleasant and at times normal to each other. Something Sarah could remember seeing growing up. Emma looked at Jack then at Sarah. Jack nodded. Chuck came in and sat down. Papa got up and bent down and gave Sarah a kiss. Sarah didn't want him to leave her. He whispered into her ear. "Just listen to what they have to say." He excused himself. "I'm going to play with the kids."
Sarah reached for Chuck's hand. He moved his chair closer. "Sarah, I know you're probably wondering what is going on as Papa probably already told you that your dad and I had supper yesterday. And that we have been talking for some time." Sarah continued to listen. "Your dad and I began talking more after the twins were born. And just recently met in person and have discussed going for counselling." Sarah leaned into the table. "And? Are you two getting back together?"
Jack looked at her. "We don't want to jump into anything or label anything. We are enjoying each other's company." Chuck looked at Sarah. It was the same thing she said to him years ago when he asked about their relationship and where it was going. Sarah looked at him knowing what he was thinking. "And Molly?"
Emma looked at Sarah. "It's not my story to tell but he knows some."
Sarah looked at her dad. "What do you know about Molly?" Jack looked at Sarah. "I asked Chuck years ago if you were some kinds of cop and he answered with such protectiveness that you were. So, I started putting pieces together. One talent I have is reading people. And Molly was one person I wanted to get to know. Where she came from etc. Your mom told me that she got Molly when she was less than a year old. And that was all. I assumed that your mom was fostering her. But that changed when she told me that she adopted her. I assume you had a hand in that."
Sarah nodded. Chuck looked at her. "It's up to you." Sarah took a deep breath. "Yes, I am an CIA and yes, I was recruited when I was 18 after you were arrested. It was either that or jail for me. This particular mission I was on, I came across this baby that needed to be protected. And the only thing I could do was take her some place safe. So, I ended up taking her to mom. I made mom promise to take care of her. And yes, I made the arrangements which also allowed mom and Molly to be taken care of for a very long time. Her biological family was a well to do family and the CIA set that up for her. And when she's old enough we will tell her where she came from." Sarah sat back looking at her dad. "And I assume Chuck is a spy too?" Sarah knew that telling him anymore was going to be way too much so she just smiled. "Yes, he is but not as long as I have."
Chuck kissed Sarah's cheek as he excused himself. "Better relieve Papa." Sarah held onto his hand till he got up. Sarah looked at her parents. She had wanted this for so long and now that it was happening it was surreal.
Emma got up and grabbed some more coffee. Sarah passed as she had to limit her coffee so, she settled on some orange juice. "Sarah honey, your mom and I want to know how you feel about this." "It's a lot to process." "It is." Sarah looked at her parents. "I've dreamt of this for years and now that it's here in front of me. Right now, as long as you two are happy I am happy. I'm glad that my kids will have their grand parents around."
When the conversation died down Sarah got up and joined Chuck. She walked in seeing Chuck getting the kids dressed in their snow suits. He looked up. "I thought we take them out in the snow, have lunch then their naps?"
Sarah smiled and took Sammy and got her dressed. Molly grabbed her ski pants and got dressed. She was tickled pink hanging out with her niece and nephew.
Papa grabbed his jacket then headed to the barn. When Sarah came outside there stood Rex, Mable and Orion and his sister Ethel named after Sarah's Grandma. Papa had hooked Rex and Mable up to a sleigh. Sarah grabbed her jacket and walked over to her horse. He neighed when he saw her like old times. He lowered his head sensing that something was different with her. Mable followed then Orion. Ethel wasn't too sure at first but she quickly joined in seeing the love. They all jumped into the sleigh as took a stroll around the farm. Chuck and Sarah each had a kid as Molly sat up in front with Papa. They returned as Chuck helped Papa with the horses.
Later that day
Chuck sat up when he heard the door open seeing Sarah and her mom. He was glad that they were spending some time together. He took their coats as they sat down on the couch. Papa and Jack brought out snacks as Molly handed out napkins. Sarah looked around not seeing the twins. Chuck smiled. "Already sleeping, I hope." Sarah slipped upstairs as Chuck followed. They had to keep their tradition of kissing their twins goodnight. They headed downstairs and enjoyed some family visits.
Christmas Eve Morning
Emma knocked on the door. Sarah had just gotten up with Sammy. Sarah opened the door. "You two go back to sleep. Your dad and I will take the twins. Sarah smiled and hugged her mom. She passed Sammy to her as Jack came and got Brycen. Sarah passed them a change of clothes but was okay if they kept them in their onesies, till they came downstairs. She hugged her mom and dad then crawled back into bed instantly falling back to sleep. Knowing that the twins were with her mom and dad for a few hours.
Sarah appreciated the few hours and slipped downstairs leaving Chuck to grab a few more winks. He had done so much to get them here from booking the flights with twins then when their flight was cancelled out of Salt Lake City, he got the car ready and drove here. Plus working a few more missions he had a bit more money saved to come out here. They weren't struggling financially but getting married, buying a house, then having twins their money was stretched. She watched him rollover and fell in love with him all over again. She closed the door tying her robe up and headed downstairs.
Chuck rolled over seeing the time and the room emptied so he hopped out and grabbed a shower. Sarah heard him upstairs moving around and smiled. She looked around and excused herself and headed upstairs. She heard the shower running and stopped at the door. She reached for the doorknob and bit her lip then turned. She faced the door again and jimmied the lock. She had lived in the house for years and knew how to open doors that were locked. She opened the door slightly not to cause Chuck to wonder. She sat on the counter dangling her feet watching Chuck. Though she couldn't see much except for his silhouette, her imagination did it for her. The water was turned off and she waited. He opened the door and looked up as she looked down. "Well wifey what do I owed this pleasure." "It's all mine husband." Chuck wrapped the towel around his waist as he grabbed another one and dried off his hair. He moved closer to her as he brushed his teeth watching her as she was watching him. Sarah slid her right leg and moved between him and the counter. Then pushed him over making him stand in between her legs. He put his tooth brush down placing his hands inside her robe. Sarah grazed his chest still dripping from his shower. "We haven't done this in a while." "Done what Chuck?" As she made figure eights on his stomach. Sarah leaned in and kissed him softly. The kiss heated up. Sarah reached and locked the door meeting his lips again. They both appreciated these moments with having twins. Their time together was limited to feedings and naps. But after a few months they got creative and this was one of them. It had been awhile but they were together no matter how brief it was. Sarah dropped Chuck's towel as his eyes turned to her. She wrapped her arms and legs around him holding him close. He kissed her softly moving together. Taking advantage of the counter not to put pressure on the baby. Chuck wrapped his arm around her and placed his other one on her thigh. They were glad that it wasn't over too quickly.
Chuck rested his head on her shoulder as she comforted him still keeping him close. He continued to kiss her as he helped her down. They slipped into the shower but Chuck didn't stay. He turned to face her as he held the door. "I better make an appearance or they wonder what we are doing up here." Sarah laughed. "I don't think they are concerned with our sexy time Chuck." Chuck started to close the door. "Sexy time, I like that." He kissed her once more as he closed the door then exited the bathroom. Sarah leaned against the wall of the shower still feeling the effects of what just happened.
Chuck walked downstairs and walked into the living room. As soon as the twins saw him, they half walked half crawled towards him. He sat down as he grabbed Sammy then Brycen and held them close on his lap. He kissed the tops of their heads as they snuggled inside his hold. Emma came back with a cup of coffee and a plate of cinnamon buns. Chuck leaned back and took a sip and a bite before little hands devoured anything that their dad was eating.
Half hour later Sarah came down dressed and gave Chuck a smile only he knew what it meant. An hour ago, only they knew what went on in the bathroom. Sarah sat down and grabbed a cinnamon bun taking Brycen so Chuck could finish eating. It was a lovely Christmas Eve morning.
Sarah and Emma and Papa kept busy in the kitchen preparing for supper as Chuck and Molly took the twins outside. Sarah's dad ran errands looking for something for dessert.
Chuck took Molly to the small hill beside the house and let the twins roam. Then took turns with each twin sliding down the hill. Wiping tears from face washes due to tumbling in the snow. Sarah heard them outside and grabbed her jacket and stepped outside. She sat down on the step watching her family. Chuck looked up and smiled. He walked over and gave her a kiss. "Wanna go to the road and back. Maybe the twins will fall asleep?" Sarah nodded. As Chuck held his hand out helping her up. Molly grabbed the sled and the five of them walked down to the road. Sarah slid her arm into his as they watched Molly try to run with the sled. They reached the road and looked around at the hoar frost on the trees. "Well, you don't see this in LA?" "No, you don't."
Chuck and Sarah stood embraced as Molly kept the twins occupied. They headed back as Chuck took the reins walking back holding Sarah's hand. Sarah looked behind her and saw that the twins were falling forward. She tapped Chuck's arm making him stop. He walked back and laid the twins down in the sleigh. They were still small enough to lay side by side. Molly walked ahead then took off when she saw the house. It was just the four of them enjoying a mid afternoon walk outside. Chuck carried the twins and laid them by the tree not to disturb them. Sarah unzipped their suits taking their arms and legs out of their suit and their boots off as Chuck grabbed a blanket and covered them up. One good thing with the twins they could sleep anywhere. Sarah remembered when they had to wait at the airport waiting for Chuck to come back from a mission. His flight was delayed and Sarah didn't want to drive back home, so she and the twins camped out at the airport. Despite the noise they slept.
Chuck and Jack cleaned up from dinner as the ladies, the twins and Papa headed to the living room. They watched It's a Wonderful Life and the twins opened a few gifts from Grandpa and Grandma. Papa decided to wait till morning to give the twins their gifts.
Chuck and Sarah settled under the blanket and enjoyed the silence as everyone else headed to bed. It was just them, the Christmas lights, the Tv and the snow falling outside.
The clock struck midnight as Chuck got up startling Sarah. He came back with a small box. Sarah sat up. "We said no gifts. This was our gift, coming out here."
"I know but this is more than a gift for you." Chuck gave her the box as she opened it, tears came to her eyes. Inside was a ring with five diamonds on it. "Something to remind you of all of us." Sarah pulled out the ring. There were three rubies, two for the twins birthday and hers, a blue Sapphire for him and a pearl for June. Sarah looked up and grabbed his face giving him a sweet kiss. Sarah looked at the ring as Chuck slipped it on her finger.
Sarah turned off the tv and grabbed his hand heading upstairs. They got ready for bed when Sarah came back with a gift for Chuck. She slipped in beside him under the sheets as she gave him the gift. "Ellie, Clair the kids and I were at the mall and I saw this sign so I made an appointment. Chuck opened the gift and saw a photo album with pictures of the three of them, just the twins and individual ones of the twins. Sarah had painted their feet and made a cover to the album. Chuck dragged his fingers over their little prints. Opening the album he smiled at the lovely pictures. "I am running out of ideas for gifts for you cause you have everything so I thought you needed more pictures." "You can't go wrong with pictures. " He continued to stare in awe at his family. "We got some cute kids." Chuck placed his hand on Sarah's belly. "And this one will be cute as well." "Do you want to find out what this one is going to be? We have a 50/50 chance of one of each." Sarah laughed as she snuggled in beside Chuck as Chuck closed the album and placed it on the nightstand. He reached over and turned off the light. Sliding more under the covers.
CHRISTMAS MORNING
Chuck grabbed the twins and the four of them headed downstairs only to see Molly. Sarah laughed when she saw Molly, Chuck and the twins staring at the tree. Emma came from upstairs and Papa and Jack came from the rooms downstairs. Pretty soon the room was full. Molly was Santa passing out the gifts. Chuck tore the edges allowing the twins to go wild with their presents. They were spoiled by their Grandparents and their Papa. Sarah grabbed a tray and brought coffee and hot chocolate for Molly and two bottles for the twins.
Chuck pried Sammy first from tearing away the wrapping paper which she was having way too much fun playing with and gave her a bottle. Sarah dragged Brycen to her as he tried to get away. They took a break then as they finished their last drop, they squirmed out of their parents hold and resumed their attack of the wrapping paper. Chuck sat on the floor as his kids covered him with paper. Chuck just laughed.
Sarah and Emma started to clean up as Chuck grabbed the twins and headed upstairs. He tossed them onto the bed grabbing their Christmas outfits. Sarah walked in just in time. He looked at her and comically replied. "And you want a third?" Sarah touched her stomach. "It's a little too late daddy."
They sat down for Christmas supper with all the trimmings. Chuck and Sarah sat at one end with the twins between them with Molly sitting to Sarah's right and Emma with Papa at the other end. Jack sat at Chuck's left making the room cozy. Papa cut the turkey like he had done for many years, enjoying their time together.
Papa got up then returned walking towards Chuck and Sarah holding a large envelope. He gave it to Sarah giving her a kiss on the cheek then sat back down. Sarah looked at the envelope then at Chuck. "What's this?" Sarah looked at Papa. "It's not much." Sarah opened the envelope sliding the bundle out. She looked at the heading then looked at Chuck. Chuck took the bundle and looked at it. Sarah looked up at Papa. "We can't. It's yours and Grandma's." "Sammy, I'm not dead yet and I don't plan on leaving either but when that time comes, I want to know that this place stays in the family. " "But dad and mom can?" "We discussed this and I decided that you and Chuck can have this place. You love this place." "I do, it means the world to me." "Well now you and Chuck can share this with the twins and the and the baby on the way. " "But we live in LA?" "Logistics."
Chuck flipped the pages. He looked at Sarah. "He's leaving us the farm and land up to and including the far end." Sarah knew that her spot was part of this deal and not going to be touched. Chuck took her hand. "Papa this is wow, very generous of you." Papa got up and walked back over to them. "We can go over the rest later. You can look over the documents and of you have any questions we can discuss that later." Sarah gave him a big hug. "Thankyou." Chuck stood up and gave Papa a hug as well. Papa whispered into his ear. "I know that you too will take good care of this place."
Sarah sat down wiping her tears as Emma slid over and comforted her. Chuck slid the papers back into the envelope and placed them behind him.
Sarah kissed her kids good night then headed downstairs grabbing her coat. Chuck watched her as she walked over to the barn. He let her have some time alone. It was a lot to take in inheriting this place. But he couldn't see this place going to anyone but Sarah. He waited for an hour then walked out seeing her laying down beside Rex. It was like he sensed that she needed to have their time alone. Rex got up when he saw Chuck, walking over and touching his nose to Chuck's shoulder. Chuck looked down at his wife as she laid in the straw. He smiled, then dove in lying on his back as Sarah cuddled in beside him. They stared up at the rafters lying there. Surprising it was decent in there despite the snow outside. "What are we going to do Chuck? This place? I could never see Papa ever leaving. It was bad enough when Grandma died." "Maybe that is why he wants you to have it. To give him some peace knowing this place is in safe hands."
"What about dad and mom?" Chuck leaned over and kissed the top of her head. "Not sure but it sounded like they were okay with Papa's decision."
They laid there in silence looking above them. "How will we make this work?"
"Maybe we don't need to think about it now. Let's just enjoy this moment."
When Chuck sprung a date night to head to Montrose, he asked Emma and Molly if they would watch the twins for a few hours. Sarah changed into one of her outfits she got from Christmas and Chuck slipped into a pair of jeans and one of his Christmas sweaters that he got from Emma. They looked like a million bucks.
They came downstairs giving kisses to the twins then thanking Emma and Molly. Chuck grabbed their coats and slipped outside and drove off. It was mid afternoon but by the time they would get to Montrose it would be close to supper time. They arrived at the burger joint that they went to years ago when Chuck arrived at the farm for answers, never looking back. They saved room for ice cream then headed to get some groceries. Chuck wanted to make his chicken pepperoni dinner for the family as a thank you and they needed food for the next few days. Sarah strolled the aisles as Chuck rode the shopping cart following her. They came to the cheese puffs and laughed as Sarah tossed a few bags into the cart. They grabbed some sparkling cider for Sarah and Molly and some wine for the rest of them. Chuck grabbed a bottle of Jack for Papa. They reached the till and paid for their items. Chuck rolled the cart to the car loaded it then returned the cart. They grabbed a coffee and headed back to the farm. Sarah sat back watching the stars come out over the horizon. They came to the road to the farm when she told Chuck to drive straight and not turn. He obliged. They drove for a mile then Sarah told him to follow the curve. He put the brights on and followed the snow path. The road ended in a half circle allowing cars and skidoos to turn around. He backed in overlooking a small creek. Sarah turned to face Chuck. "This is the south end of my spot. The creek runs from the watering hole south and flows into here." Sarah got out as Chuck followed. She stood facing the creek. It was so quiet they could hear the water flowing. Chuck stood beside Sarah. "This creek is the end of Papa's property. The right side is Papa's and left side is Ralston's farm. Decent farm family, been farming here as long as Papa has been." Chuck couldn't see much in the dark but took Sarah's word for it. Chuck remembered reading the file. Papa was selling his two hundred acres and keeping the 40 acres of the family farm. Which Chuck now knew included this spot. He had to make it work so that Sarah wouldn't lose this place. Who knew maybe one of their kids would take this place.
Chuck moved in beside her and wrapped his arms around her. His warm breath waffled down along her neckline. Whether it was the fresh air or hormones but whatever it was this feeling came over her. She grabbed his hand and walked over to the car. She opened the back seat and pushed the seat back and made him sit down then she came in and closed the door. She straddle him taking off her jacket as Chuck followed through. He didn't have to ask twice of what was going to happen. Chuck slipped his sweater off as Sarah worked his jeans. She leaned forward as he helped her out of hers. She resumed her spot as he slipped her top off and exposed her chest. He kissed her chest placing kisses all over. Sarah leaned back resting her back against the passenger seat. Chuck brought her close as their lips met. He slid his legs out as he reclined in his seat making it easier for Sarah. Sarah pressed her hands on his chest moving as one. It was intense, hot, and wild. They weren't one to make love in a car but they were guilty of doing it in supply closets and holding cells. And the barn would be at the top. The passion added to the experience as they professed their love. Chuck held onto Sarah's hips as her body settled down. He kissed her softly enjoying her kisses in return. Sarah laid her head on his chest as he reached one of Sammy's blankets covering them up.
Droplets of sweat covered their bodies as they rested. Chuck held her close. "I'm still glad that you're so flexible." Sarah laughed. "Well, you're full of surprises as well." They basked in their back seat loving making session sharing kisses and caresses as the sky got darker and darker. They found their clothes as Chuck slipped his jeans up and stepped outside. "Burr." As he grabbed his shirt and sweater and put them on. Sarah slipped into her pants stretched out on the seat. Chuck grabbed her boots and put them on for her. He held onto her as she sat up and slipped out of the seat. Sarah slipped her top on as they shared a kiss. It was dark enough except for the interior light so they could see their faces. She grabbed her coat and put it on as she slipped to the passengers seat. Chuck closed both doors as he walked around the other side. He put the car in drive and headed back down the road turning into the farm.
He stopped just shy of the house to take a photo. The lights and the snow took a perfect picture. "We would have to hire someone to decorate for us." Chuck looked at Sarah. "Are you sure? I mean I couldn't picture this place going to just anyone and you have so many memories here and we could live anywhere. We might have to build a Morgan house." Sarah reached for his hand. "I'm sure if you are." Chuck drove the rest of the way as they looked at the house. "We won't change the name. I wouldn't want to put the Bartowski name up on the sign." "You want to keep the O'Connell name?" Chuck looked at her as he opened the door. He nodded, making Sarah smile.
He got out and opened the passenger side door. Holding her hand as she stepped out. Chuck walked to the back and grabbed the bags and headed inside. Emma was just coming down from upstairs. "Hi," as she looked up. "The twins have been asleep for about two hours. Sarah didn't realize how late they were. I guess if they didn't stop and have sex in the backseat of the car, they would have been home. "They weren't a hassle." "No, they are darlings just like their mother." Emma gave Sarah a kiss on the cheek and headed to the kitchen with Chuck.
Chuck showered and checked on the twins before he slid under the covers reaching for Sarah. He nestled inside her neck holding her close. Sarah reached her arm around his head pulling him close. It was not what they planned to do especially with the twins next to them and her mom down the hall but it did. Sarah rolled over as Chuck carefully laid beside her. Chuck didn't want to lay over her but he did want to be able to express his love for her. This is where what Sarah called his expertise came in. He grabbed her leg taking the weight off her stomach as he held it against his leg. He leaned in kissing her softly trying not to make too much noise. At first his eyes were on the twins making sure they were looking back at him but Sarah grabbed his face. "I'm right here." He smiled then kissed her. The kissed intensified as they quietly made love as the snow fell outside.
Chuck laid there as he didn't want to move but could hear Brycen James and Sammy cooing. Chuck and Sarah still lying there after their third time listening to their twins make noise. They were fussing so they let them be. It was still dark out and way too early to get up. Chuck tried not to laugh at what he was hearing. Sarah covered her face not to laugh either. Sarah cuddled more into him as the room got quiet again, they could hear their little ones settle back to sleep. Chuck covered them up as he snuck a kiss as they closed their eyes.
Chuck opened his eyes as he could feel something wet and pressed against his chest. As he focused, he saw Brycen climbing over him as Sammy laid in between him and Sarah. Sarah looked at Chuck. "I woke up and saw them peering over here so I grabbed them. Chuck grabbed Brycen and held him in the air. Brycen cooed and laughed. Sammy snuggled with Sarah. Chuck lowered Brycen and made him sit between him and Sarah. Sarah caressed Chuck's face as he leaned in and gave her a kiss. "Thanks for last night." "You're most welcomed my dear." Chuck looked at the twins. "I wonder how many times they wake up and talk to each other."
"And say what is daddy doing to mommy." Chuck blushed. "You think?"
"Yeah, Chuck, the kids are concerned about our love life."
Sarah kissed him again as she got up and tossed him his pajama bottoms. He slipped them on then grabbed a shirt. He grabbed the twins changed them then the four of them headed downstairs.
Chuck made supper that night which was a hit. And they all sat to watch Miracle on 34 th Street. The next day the lawyers came and finalized the transferring of the names on the titles of the house and farm. Sarah didn't realize all that Papa was selling. The land for farming as he figured they wouldn't be farming so that money would be put into a trust fund for Brycen James, Sammy, Chuck, and Sarah's third child and some for Molly and Emma. A decent inheritance for Jack and the rest Chuck could then put the money into things like the maintenance and taxes on the farm. He was taking Sarah's advice to hire someone to maintain the house while they were in LA.
June of the next year
Chuck paced the hospital floor in Denver as they were out there to visit Papa. Sarah didn't expect to deliver early but this one wanted to make an appearance. The nurse called Chuck in as Sarah began to push. Chuck grabbed her hand and encouraged her. In minutes they heard a faint cry. Sarah looked up. "What is it, Chuck?" Chuck took a peak. "It's a boy." Sarah smiled as they laid their baby on her chest. Chuck leaned in and kissed her as she kissed him back. "Another boy Chuck." "I see that." Through teary eyes. They wiped his little face seeing how curly his hair was but it was so blonde it kind of freaked them out. He had ten little toes and ten little fingers and blue eyes like his mom. The nurses took him as Chuck followed. They cleaned Sarah up as Chuck came back holding their newest baby.
Chuck held onto him a little longer before he passed him to Sarah for the first time. "I guess we need a name for this one." Sarah looked at him with his bright blue eyes. She looked up. "What do you think of Jackson Charles?"
Chuck looked up. He knew the name Jackson was after Papa and her dad but Charles?"
"Chuck, I didn't know what to name this one but seeing him I think he needs a name that he would be proud of having. Plus, you and Papa are the most important people in my life." Chuck leaned in. "So, I am guessing JC for short?" "Maybe but I like Jackson Charles."
The whole family came in including Papa who was in a wheelchair cause it was harder for him to walk. He looked at the baby as Chuck placed him in his arms. Chuck quickly took a picture. "Papa." Sarah started to cry. "Papa meet your newest great grand son Jackson Charles." Papa looked up and started to cry as he brought the baby close to him. There was not a dry eye in the room.
Papa died early August where he always liked to be and that was the barn. Jack had seen his chair on the patio but no Papa then he saw the barn door open and saw him sitting in his chair with Rex, Mable, Orion, and Ethel next to him. He called LA and Chuck broke the news to Sarah. She was already emotional with JC and now this. The four of them drove out for the funeral and after the service they had him put to rest next to his wife Ethel. It was a lovely day and a lovely service. Sarah took it hard as her best friend, her best bud had died. She walked the paths that they use to walk on even with the years of wear and tear she could still see things that he pointed out. Chuck stood at the path near the barn as she fell into his arms. She sobbed uncontrollably for what seemed like forever but Chuck kept holding her.
They went for a walk which led them back at the house where Chuck convinced her to go lay down. She was glad that Papa could share the twins second birthday. She passed his room stopping briefly but decided to lay there like she did when she was little and there was a bad storm. Chuck found her and quietly covered her up giving her a kiss on the forehead. He closed the door letting her sleep.
She had a lovely dream when she was a kid and their trips driving around the farm. She could barely see over the dashboard but as she sat on his lap, she turned the steering wheel driving through the fields as happy as a clam. Her dream ended with them sitting on the porch. Just the two of them. Sarah wasn't a spiritual person but she believed that she would see him one day walking towards her with Grandma next to him.
She woke up refreshed but still sad. But she welcomed the sadness. As the weeks progressed, they stayed at the farm till New Years as Casey set up an office in Denver and Chuck finally got his pilots licence. Making trips to Denver even faster. With the money from the sale of the land and distributing it to the great grandkids and Molly. Sarah and Chuck gave a generous amount to her parents as was decided upon by Papa.
Sarah was happy to hear that they decided to be together but were still sitting on the fence to get married again. Sarah was okay with that; her wish had come true. The rest put aside for maintenance and taxes and put down a nice down payment on a helicopter. Beckman knew a person who knew a person and he got a great deal on a used but new helicopter to them. She didn't want to lose her best agents.
Chuck and Sarah kept their home in LA as they added a Morgan ADU suite above the garage. This would help keep an eye on the house.
A year later
JC turned one in early June and the twins were going to be three in a few weeks. Sarah held her stomach holding onto number four. She was due in five months. They barely made the six weeks after JC was born. Chuck had been on a mission and found a few days to fly home and see his family. Once Chuck got the three to bed, the two of them kissed their kids and headed out. Chuck grabbed some water and when he walked into their room seeing Sarah, his heart ached. She missed him and he missed her. Chuck closed the door and fell into her arms. Chuck picked her up and laid her on the bed. Sarah knew her time with him was short so she took advantage of him being home. They made love.
It was still early but Chuck was out. Sarah headed to the barn to check on the horses before she went to bed. She gave them some fresh water and some hay. She walked back placing the pail down when she saw Chuck standing in the doorway with a blanket wrapped around his shoulders. He greeted the horses then gave Sarah a passionate kiss. They knew they wouldn't be able to make it back to their room so Chuck laid her down on the blanket placing the monitor next to them. He slipped her top off exposing her breast as he placed kisses on each of them. He continued to love her. She moaned at his touches and tried to catch her breath as his hands roamed her body. He was definitely making good use of his time. They laid there looking up listening to the sounds around them. "Perfect." "Indeed."
Sarah snapped out of her thoughts as she heard the story end. She got up and headed upstairs to kiss her kids goodnight.
The next few months they did some renovations and turned her room upstairs into the kids room and over time they took the wall out between her dad's room and Papa's room adding an ensuite and access to the deck outside that allowed them to see the sunrise. That left two more rooms for guests and when the kids got older, they each could have a room. Sarah looked her three little miracles and their dad who had changed her life. 'Maybe Chuck was right when he said the 49B was a blessing. Look where it led them.'
The End
