I don't own either of the shows.
Chapter 1: A Beeper for Dipper
In a deep underground facility at a classified black site of the secret service of the United States of America, three figures sat on a sleek black table inside a secured room.
On one side were two agents. The senior was a middle-aged black-haired man, with a dark grey mustache, and a headpiece in his ear. He had a mole above the right side of his mustache. He wore a white shirt with a folded collar and a black tie. On an upper layer, he had a black suit with a small American flag pin on the left side.
His partner, a young man with close-cropped, light brown hair, wore similar uniforms as he sat to the right of his partner. His back was straight as an arrow as he prepared himself for any surprises their "companion" on the other side of the table may have.
Which brings us to the last person in the room, if it was even the right term to use. For this was no human at all. Instead, cuffed to the table, was a humanoid reptilian. A grey skinned bipedal lizard who ironically enough wore the same suit as the agents, bar the American flag. He had a red tie instead of a black one as well.
"So, 'Toffee', was it?" The senior agent, Powers, asked the monster. After receiving a nod of confirmation, he proceeded. "You said that you seek asylum on earth, in the United States, correct?"
"That is correct, gentleman." Toffee spoke. The lizard's voice was quiet, sleek, and yet could be heard loud and clear. If he felt any distress about his situation, he didn't show it at all. If anything, he looked like he was in charge of the conversation.
"And that you're from this planet called 'Mewni'?" Powers pressed.
"Dimension, actually." The monster corrected. "A common misconception."
"Is it a pocket dimension of earth or does it connect to other dimensions as well?"
"The later."
"Put him under category four traveler." The senior agent spoke in his headpiece before continuing.
"Why are you seeking asylum in the first place?"
"I was a general under of the losing side of the war. I managed to kill the enemy ruler under the guise of negotiations, however her daughter and current queen of Mewni managed to disband my army and force me into hiding. I became her most wanted fugitive ever since." Toffee admitted without shame, or any kind of emotion.
"And why should we?" Powers put his elbows on the table and rested his chin on his fists. "Why should we risk the wrath of what is, by your own words, a multi-dimensional superpower? What can you offer for your sanctuary? Why not just hand you over to the queen and get on her good graces?"
"Three reasons." The monster said simply. "One, you couldn't contact the kingdom of Mewni even if you want to. Two, you know nothing of the other dimensions, not their names, nor even how many major dimensions are. I can give you all the information you need, and you can always press me more unlike with Mewni. Besides, any bias I have will be the same with Mewni, just on the other side."
"The third is the most important one, however." Toffee said as he made a nod towards the titanium suitcase that was on the table. "I can give you access to dimensional travel. Any dimension on the Mewnian web way, at your grasps. I can assure you that Mewni will never let you have even a fraction of what I offer without hooks."
The two agents exchanged a sideway glance, a silent dialogue passed between the two before the two returned to the business at hand. "And how would we know that it's what you claim it is? It could easily be some trap meant to lead an invading army when our metaphorical pants are down. Heck, it could be the very same Mewmian you claim to run from."
"Then we're at an impasse." Toffee replied, not bothered by the least of the accusations. "It is, however, the best chance of gaining dimensional travel you are going to get."
"And is it safe?" Powers pressed again.
"Pardon?" The reptilian raised an eyebrow, for the first time changing his expression to something other than calm and calculated.
"The device, it opens a tear between dimensions, right?" Powers clarified. "Can the tear grow up uncontrolled and swallow the entire planet? Can the web way be hijacked by an outside party to change destination, or worse, to get access to this dimension?"
"Oh, those are some very insightful questions, especially from those who had no experience with dimensional travel before." Toffee nodded in what could almost be considered respect. "To answer them by order."
"No, the tear itself is as unstable as things can get and requires tremendous amounts of energy just to not collapse on itself, those things are naturally closing, not expanding. The power required to not only stabilize, but to expend it to even a town level is…" Toffee tried to find the right words. "Unimaginably beyond reckoning. I wouldn't even want to hear about something that can expand a dimensional rift to a planetary scale. Rest assured, there is no single thing in all of the dimensions accessible by the Mewman web way capable of such. The design itself also excludes plains of existence who has strong enough sources for such phenomenon, rare as they are."
"As for your other questions, there are crystals capable of creating a distortion-free space, and I'm sure Mewni has a way to redirect portals. How common they are to what is considered a 'backwater' dimension like this is another question. The same failsafe that collapses the portal in presence of non-sanctioned higher powers protects from interference of an outside party that didn't go through the portal with the user."
The two agents looked at each other once again, before listening to their headpieces. After a minute or so, the two men nodded. "Understood." Powers said.
"Welcome officially to the United States of America, mister Toffee. Your documents are being written as we speak." Powers said before stopping for a moment as he listened to something on his earpiece. "I'm afraid that we'll have to change your name, however, Toffee is not a common name in any of the cultures of earth. Do you have any preferences?"
"Michael Carlyle Hall would be perfect." The lizard said.
"Well then, Michael, welcome to America." Powers greeted. "Now start talking."
"What do you think of it, agent Trigger?" Powers asked his partner as they left the room after questioning their new 'guest'.
"I don't like it, sir." Trigger said as he held firmly in his hands the suitcase that contained the dimension traveling device. "He acted too cooperatively, too calm. He's hiding something."
"That's obvious." Powers snorted. "But what about his story? Do you find it strange?"
"With all due respect, sir, I don't think that's there are any non-believers left in the department after the Oregon crisis." Trigger replied. "And the guy's a lizardman for crying out loud. If he says that he's an alien from a different dimension, I incline to believe him."
The senior agent merely nodded in agreement, their disaster of a mission in that damned (quite possibly literally as well) town in Oregon opened their eyes to a completely new and horrifying world. But from failure came experience, and they will do their damn best to not fail their nation again.
"The princess is going to be an issue, though." Tigger added with a wince. "She will make us be under the direct attention of the kingdom of Mewni, and god knows what they may do here."
Yes, a very concerning piece of information that 'Michael' brought was the coming of age of the princess. Apparently, once a princess reaches fourteen, she gets the 'Royal Wand' from her queen mother. Said wand was the symbol of power of the matriarchy of Mewni, as well as an artifact of great magical power that can level cities. Obviously, the idea of a hormonal teenage girl wielding such power was frightening, and that was disregarding the fact that she was an alien with unknown motives.
Her parents seemed to think the same, according to Toffee, as they prepared to send her to a 'safe' environment so she could learn to control her magic. 'Safe' here was meant for the princess, and even more importantly, for everyone else in the kingdom. The sheer lack of confidence the queen had in her daughter was concerning, especially when the royal family threw their problems on earth.
"We'll need someone to watch over her." Powers decided. "Someone to make sure that she doesn't turn the earth's core to pudding or something, by design or by mistake."
"But who do we send?" Trigger asked. "Surveillance through technology doesn't seem effective with a magical princess, a personal touch is needed. And stalking a teenage girl, frankly, isn't something this department trained for."
"True." Powers admitted. "So we'll send people who can get close without raising too much concern, people around her age. They have to be experienced with the weird and unknown, more so than anyone here. People who faced impossible odds and certain death yet came on top."
"But there is no one in the entire world who can fit those criteria, sir." Trigger protested
"I can think of a pair of twins." Powers simply said.
"Oh… Those two…" Trigger played with his tie uncomfortably, as if it was strangling him. "They aren't on the best terms with us, sir. And I must admit that I don't feel completely comfortable relying on those kids with something so great, not after our last meeting where they erased our memories. It was a pain and a half getting those back."
"Then we simply make them an offer that they can't refuse." Powers said ominously as the darkness of the corridor swallowed them.
"Are you excited, dipper?"
A light skinned teenage girl said excitedly to her twin brother as they walked to their new school. Her long straight brown hair reached all the way to the middle of her back where it them curls and was held in place by a pink headband. She wore a short-sleeved pink undershirt underneath a slightly darker warm pink sweater with a shooting star, a loose purple pencil skirt coupled with black ballerina flats and white socks.
"A new year at a new school in a new city! Imagine all the fun we'll have!" Her face shone brightly as she smiled, her teeth lacked the bracers she had two years ago.
"I feel you, Mabel." Dipper said.
The male twin looked similar to his sister, the same skin tone, the same hair color, the same brown eyes and similar face lines. He wore a navy-blue vest (which has inner pockets on both sides), a reddish-orange T-shirt with a blue pine tree sigma, gray shorts, white knee-high socks with a red stripe, black sneakers with white soles, and a gray digital wristwatch. On his head, he wore a lumberjack hat that he got as a gift from his time in Gravity Falls that hid his birthmark on his forehead. The mark, shaped like the Big Dipper constellation, is the origin of his nickname "Dipper".
"Mom and Dad both got a promotion, we moved to a bigger house, and we start a new school year at a new school at a completely different school with a complete blank start. Funny how things can change in the span of a week."
And wasn't that right. As Dipper said, their parents both got a promotion with the promise of better pay and bigger house. The only downside was that they had to move from Piedmont to Echo Creek, at least the two places were in California. Yet, it meant that both him and Mabel had to leave their friends behind. Okay, Mabel had to leave her friends behind, Dipper didn't have as many friends as his sister. But with a new school where no one knew him, it all could change.
"Tell me about it." Mabel replied to him, a bit somberly. "I still miss my girls."
"Hey, you can still talk online." Dipper reminded her. "Besides, you will have the chance to make new friends here."
"Yeah! Maybe I'll even have my high school romance adventure!" Mable immediately brightened up.
"Yeah… Let's hold back our horses there sis, no need to go all boy-crazy before even entering the school. Remember Gabe?"
"That sock puppet creep? Argh! Why did you have to remind me…"
The sock puppeteer they met at Gravity Falls, and who was Mabel's crush of the week, had turned up to be a puppet obsessed creep who more likely than not had a non-platonic relationship with his puppets. Mabel went so boy-crazy that she created from starch an entire puppet show. The entire ordeal also involved Dipper getting possessed by an all-powerful dream demon who stole and totally wrecked his body, so not the best experience for both of them.
In any case, Dipper sighed in relief internally as his sister seemed to lose interest for now. She was as boy crazy as she was a year ago, but the difference was that now boys actually started to notice her too. A fact that made it awkward for Dipper for all kinds of reasons.
Together, they stepped inside their new school, Echo Creek Academy.
"Say, where is the principal's office again?" Mabel asked.
"Let's see." Dipper said as the two got closer to a board with the map of the school. "So somewhere around… here!"
He pointed at a building near them.
The principle himself, the twins discovered, was a small balding man with a penguin like build. He had a business suit with a purple butterfly tie and bog square glasses. The sides of his head tried to make up for the baldness by having fluffy orange hair, but all they did was make the principle look like a clown.
"Ah, Mason and Mabel Pines, right?" He asked them once they arrived.
"Dipper actually." Dipper really hated his first name.
"Right, right, Dipper, my mistake." Principle Skeeves nodded. "Let me be the first to welcome to Echo Creek Academy! If there's anything, and I mean anything at all, that you would like to be brought to my attention then don't be afraid to ask. Here we do our best for our students."
"Thanks…" The man may have said what he did, but Dipper was around Grunkle Stan long enough to recognize a conman. Besides, the principle may mean what he said, but there was something in his undertone that showed fear and apprehension, the same kind Grunkle Stan had when those secret service guys came.
"Now let me just call for my most well-behaved student, and he'll show you everything, alright?" The principle said as he got near the microphone. "Marco Diaz to the principal's office. I repeat, Marco Diaz to the principal's office."
"Do you want something to drink in the meantime?" The man asked them. "Coffee, Tea, anything?"
"Do you have any Smile-Dip?" Mabel asked excitedly, milking the rare opportunity of a principal so hospitable as much as she could. Dipper, meanwhile, just put his hand on his face with a groan.
"I, ah- I assure you that this facility has no such thing!" Skeeves declared, much to Mabel's disappointment. "We don't tolerate any kind of drugs, alcohol, or any other illegal beverage in this campus!"
"Two cups of water will be fine." Dipper decided as the principle poured.
Not too long after, someone knocked at the door. "Ehm… Principal Skeeves? It's Marco, you called me?"
"Ah Marco, my boy, please come in!" The short man greeted the boy in question.
The teenager in front of them, Marco, looked like he had Latin American roots. Brown hair and brown eyes, he had a mole on the right side of his face as well. He wore a white shirt underneath a red hoodie, and had long dark brown pants and sport shoes.
"Hello sir, did I do something wrong?"
Dipper looked at his sister, who in turn looked very closely on Marco. Great, Dipper thought, here we go with the random crash of the week.
"Oh, nothing of the sort, my boy." Skeeves waved off his concerns. "Those two are our new students, Ma-Dipper! And Mabel pines. They have moved here recently and need someone responsible to show them around, someone who I can trust to show them the best our school has to offer!"
"Ah… Thanks?" Marco said confused, he had never seen Skeeves so invested in receiving non-exchange students. "What homeroom are they?"
"Why they are in your class as well, what a terrific coincidence!"
After Marco led them out of the office, Dipper could have sworn that he heard an audible sigh of relief from the principal's office. Just what the heck was that all about?"
"This is the swimming pool -watch out for the glass- to your right there's the library -open locker- and this is the restroom- gum!"
Marco showed them the school. So far, it looked average in all regards. Dipper also started to understand why Marco was the first choice to show them around, the guy was a complete safety freak. And that came from Dipper who had some experience with paranoia here and there!
Regardless, Marco did a pretty good job showing them around and was a cool guy to boot. Dipper could clearly see the two of them becoming friends.
"So where is our homeroom, handsome?" Mabel bent a little as she asked.
"I- ah- well-" Marco blushed profanely, clearly unused to a girl, especially a pretty one, showing that much interest in him. Well, besides that one exchange student girl but that was a story better left untold.
"Ignore her." Dipper advised. "She's just like that with new faces. She'll come down in a week or two."
Mabel, in return, just showed her tongue to her annoying brother.
"And here we are!" Marco all too eagerly knocked on the door to his, and now their, homeroom. " ? I came with the new transfer students! Principal Skeeves said that they are in our class."
"Get in…" The voice of a very gruff woman was heard loud and clear. If Dipper didn't know better, he may have thought that it was a troll.
Opening the door… revealed that he wasn't too far off his bet. The obese red haired elderly woman at the teacher's table sure was wrinkled and mean looking enough to be considered a troll, not in the level of a Gremlobin though. And was she doing her foot nails now? Ew…
"You! Sit! You two! Stay!" Her voice left no room for arguments as Marco ran to his place. "Now introduce yourselves!"
"Hi! I'm Mabel! This is my brother Dipper-"
"Enough!" Skullnick interrupted Mabel's introduction. "Now sit! You sit next to the safe kid, you sit next to the weird girl, now move it!"
The twins all too quickly went to their new seats, Dipper sat next to Marco and Mabel sat next to a girl who's name Dipper learnt later was Janna.
"So is she always this… hospitable?" Dipper tried to find the right word as he whispered to Marco.
"Honestly, she's usually grumpier." Marco admitted. "She must have had a good day so far."
The rest of the class was a complete waste of time, they did nothing but sit in silence and get bored as the teacher did whatever she did. Honestly, the bell couldn't come soon enough.
"So, our next class is P.E." Marco told as they went to the locker room to change clothes. Luckily enough, he got a new spare sportswear in his locker. He suspected Mabel got hers as well. Maybe this school did have something going for it after all.
"And don't worry about the coach, he's the most chill guy in the entire facility." Marco added. "Even Ferguson passes."
"Hell yeah!" the obese ginger head next to them yelled as he tried to fit his pants on. "Nothing can stop the Ferg!"
Apparently, nothing besides standard size clothes as Ferguson immediately fell after he tried to push his pants too hard. Alfonzo, Marco's other friend, tried to help Ferguson up. It took a few tries. After that, they went to the school gym.
"He usually arrives a few minutes late." Marco explained. "So don't worry if he doesn't show up. Jenny, his assistant and the girl's P.E teacher, is usually much more functional."
The door of the gym opened, right on time, and a man stepped in. He was around six feet and above and had a well defined body that could be seen beyond the short sleeved white T-shirt and the red shorts. But what really caught Dipper's attention was the fact that he recognized that man.
"Agent Powers…"
"What?" Marco didn't clearly hear the male twin's mumbling.
"Nothing. Is he-"
"Hello kids, I'm coach Powers." The man answered Dipper's question. "I will replace who had some private reasons that forced him to leave for an unforeseen amount of time, that includes his roles as your coach as well as the football trainer and any other duties he had. Any questions?"
No one raised his hand.
"Good, now twelve laps across the field."
The boys stood there, not understanding what to do. Their old teacher had never been so demanding. A football ball (the elliptically shaped one) was suddenly thrown from the side to the man's face by an overgrown kid that Dipper learnt was named Lars. All the student's eyes (except Dipper's) widened in surprise as the Powers caught the ball with one hand effortlessly without looking. The undercover agent then proceeded to press the ball until it blew.
"As I said, twenty laps around the field." Seeing as the students were still unreactive, even if their wide-open mouth suggested a different reason for inaction, Powers blew in his whistle and got their attention. "What are you waiting for, a kiss on the cheek?! At it, soldiers!"
"Sir, yes, sir!" all the boys sprinted in action. Needless to say, there were no further interruptions during the lesson.
...
"Huff… huff… Huff… God kill me now…" Furgeson nearly puked his soul out as he barely crawled. The workout of their new P.E teacher was too much for the Ferg it seemed. "Is it a P.E class or a seal navy boot camp…"
After the lesson was over, only a few could still stay standing. Ironically enough, Dipper, Marco and a blond jock (who was surprisingly nice) named Justin stayed on their feet. Justin, being a football player, was more prepared for this workout than his peers and Marco's karate lessons came in really handy. As for Dipper, a summer of investigating the mysteries of Gravity Falls and running for his life from unimaginable horrors was a great practice. It also helped that puberty hit and finally put some muscles in his formally noddle arms.
"Disgusting. I had never seen such a poor performance ever since I had to babysit privates in the mid-east!" Powers yelled at them. "Now get up and get out! If I see you lot are still here in the next sixty seconds, I'll have you all do another full round!"
The gym, as one may guess, immediately (in a most cartoonish way) emptied itself. Dipper was about to go as well, but the voice of Powers stopped him.
"A moment of your time, ."
"Hey… I really need to get going, so maybe we-"
"I insist."
Damn, Dipper really didn't want to stay alone with the agent, even if the agent shouldn't remember him. On the other hand, it is better not to cause a scene. He nodded at Marco that he'll join later and stayed with the agent.
"So… What did you want to talk about?" Did he already mention that it was only the two of them in the gym?
"We need your help, son." Powers said, surprising Dipper.
"I don't-"
"Drop the act, Dipper. You remember me, and I remember you."
Crapbaskets.
"You? What? How?"
"Kid, we're the secret service of The United Stated of America, did you really think that you could fool us for so long?"
"I… Apparently not." Dipper suddenly became even more jumpy and sweaty. "So, heh, sorry for erasing your memory and everything, no hard feelings?"
"None required." Powers put a pacifying hand. "In all honesty, things could have been done much better on our part as well."
"So… You said you wanted something from me?"
"Yes, but for that I need you to swear secrecy. What you are going to hear now is for yours and your sister's ears only, is that agreeable?"
"Is it really this big?" Dipper asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Yes. And you are free to disagree, all we need from you will be secrecy then."
"Okay." Dipper agreed after a few moments of thought. "What is it all about?"
Powers nodded towards the storage room and the two went there, Powers closed the door behind as he pulled a file folder and handed it to Dipper. When the male half of the mystery twins opened it, he was greeted with a picture of a(n admittingly pretty) blond girl wearing a blue princess outfit who looked like she was around his age. The most distinctive part of her was the two heart-shaped marks around her. On the paper behind the picture was written with bold letters "Star Butterfly" and beneath is all kinds of facts and data.
"What is this?"
"'What' is the right word." Agent Powers said. "This is Star Butterfly, an alien in the most literal sense. She is the heir to the throne of a magical kingdom in another dimension that influences other dimensions like a superpower does to third world countries. And we have intel that her highness is to be coming here, to this very city. She is soon to be given an heirloom that will grant her unknown amount of magical power, and her parents have decided that this place is a suffice training ground."
"But what do you want me to do about it?" Dipper was confused. "I don't really think that me and Mabel are the right people to interact with royalty, magical or not."
"But you are at her age, and you are the most experienced with the unnatural among all the candidates we have. Both of those qualities make the two of you the most suited for the job."
"So what do you want from us anyway?"
"Negate whatever chaos she brings to the best of your ability, make sure that her magic doesn't hurt others. Approach her, if you can, make her value earth and the US, the goodwill of the future ruler of an interdimensional empire is always good. Study her, both as a person and a princess, her home dimension, and her magic. Anything you will find will be a priceless piece of information that will help us truly understand this strange existence. You will be just like your great uncle. And in case she really is the threat we fear, naturalize her. By all means necessary."
"What was the last part again?" Daydreaming about being like great uncle Ford almost made Dipper miss the last sentence. Did he really mean to…
"Not necessary kill, avoid it if possible." Powers clarified. "God knows what complications it will bring. But if push comes to shove, and she turns up to be as much of a threat as we fear, you and your sister may be the only thing that stands between her and innocent lives."
"I-I don't think that I can do it, sir…" Dipper had never really murdered someone before.
"Be it as it may, you two are still our best chance. Shameful as it is to admit it." Powers admitted. He said it with a straight face and as a matter of fact, but Dipper could see that it really affected the senior agent. "You of course wouldn't be alone in this, you will have our full support if needed. As well as a presidential pardon if things go south. Again, I must clarify that killing is last result when all other options are exhausted."
"Yeah, I get it…" Dipper really didn't, but then a lightbulb lit in his head. A lot of things were too coincidental, everything seemed to fall together too perfectly. "This school, mom and dad's promotions, the new house, was it all your doing?"
"Knew you'd figure it out sooner rather than later." The agent said with a smile. "Only shows that you're the right man for the job. But to answer your question, yes, it was us. And to answer your next question, no, we are not going to use it as blackmail, all of this is yours wither you agree or not."
"Why?" Dipper asked suspiciously.
"The mere fact that you two are in the area will decrease the risk crisis of any unnatural event already, which is already worth the payoff. Honestly, you aren't asked to do anything that you wouldn't have done already."
That… sounded logical.
"So do we have a deal?" The agent asked.
"Look, as for me, I'm sold." Dipper admitted. "But I need to run this through with Mabel first before we agree to anything."
"Of course." Powers nodded in agreement. "Make sure she knows everything. But I need an answer by the end of the day."
"You will." Dipper said as he started to walk away.
"Oh." Powers stopped him for a second. "If anyone asks, I talked to you about joining the football team."
"We need to talk." Dipper pulled Mabel aside at the break and whispered. "I just met agent Powers!"
"Who" Mabel asked in confusion.
"One of the agents we met at Gravity Falls that tried to arrest Grunkle Stan."
"Which ones exactly? There were a lot of them." Mabel's question was fair, Grunkle Stan did have many runs from the law.
"The ones who were after the portal." Dipper clarified. "The ones great uncle Ford erased their memory."
"Ohh!" Mabel remembered. "Was it the wrinkly one or the cute one?"
"The wrinkly one…" Dipper closed his eyes and massaged his nose at her disappointed pout.
"What did he even want from you? And how did he even remember?"
And so, Dipper told her the shortened version of the story.
"Dipper, you have to agree!" Mabel gasped in excitement. "This is our only chance to meet a real-life magical princess! We are so going to be BFF's!"
"Hold your horses Mabel, for all we know she may be the wicked witch of the west." Dipper warned her.
"You're just being your usual paranoid self, broseph. She's a princess, and a magical one! She can't be evil."
"I don't know Mabel, Powers sounded pretty concerned. And not without a good reason, we basically know nothing about her besides the fact that she's a princess and that she has strong magic."
"Nah… She's cool, trust your big sis about it."
"Five minutes! Older by five minutes!"
"Alpha twin! Alpha twin!"
"Oh, come on! You're not even taller than me anymore!" And that was true. Puberty hit them both, and it also meant that Dipper, who usurped Mabel's one millimeter difference and became the taller twin by the end of last year's summer, was now a few good inches above her. A fact that frustrated her to no end.
"So, are we going to take the job?" Dipper asked.
"Of course!"
"Good, the two of you are here" Power said when the mystery twins entered the gym in the end of the day. "So, what's your answer?"
"We'll take the case." Dipper nodded seriously with confidence.
"Great." Powers said as he handed them two boxes. When the twins opened their respective box, they saw a watch. Dipper's was a standard dark-blue digital watch while Mabel's was more wristband like and thin in appearance, and had the same reddish-pink color as her headband.
"Those will be our communication devices." The agent explained. "Those wristwatch pagers will give you updates in real time about events we would like you to investigate as well as any further orders."
"But why beepers though, wouldn't it be better if we had a two-way communication?"
"Heh, Bippers." Mabel couldn't help but snort at her brother, clearly referring to the time he got possessed by Bill.
"Let's make things clear." Powers ignored the girl. "While we will have your back behind the scenes, you will have to navigate around the princess on your own. There must be nothing that can be pointed back at us, the consequences of the government spying after the heir of an inter-dimensional power will be severe. The beepers were the best compromise between secrecy and practicality in this case."
"And please don't put those pagers in your pockets, especially those on the upper leg."
"Why?" Dipper was confused. "Those are pagers, it's not like they release any kind of radiation."
"Just don't, some developments have made us update the usage protocols. The least you ask, the better."
"Okay…" There was probably some context Dipper missed here.
"Say, weren't you with another agent last time?" Mabel changed the subject. "You know, the cute one with the strong chin and deep eyes? Is he single by the way?"
"Agent Trigger is around, providing support. You wouldn't see him unless you have an emergency."
"Oh, man…" Mabel slumped her shoulders, dejected.
In a van under covered as an ice-cream truck, agent Trigger moved in his seat uncomfortably while listening to the conversation as the other agents around him snickered.
"Back to the issue at hand, this will be your weekly payment. Use those to gather whatever you need to prepare for her highness, spare no expenses." Powers said. "The new bank address will be sent through the pagers now."
"Wow." Mabel looked at the number. "That's a lot or zeros."
Dipper had to agree, those were a lot of zeros. Grunkle Stan would have cried from happiness.
"I would advise to not spent it on things that may make others question the source of your income." Warned Powers. "This is strictly for the mission and mission related things."
"Understood." Dipper nodded. "When could we start use it? And how much time do we have to prepare until Star arrives?"
"Exactly one month from now, so if you need something planed, I suggest doing it now."
"Anything else we should know?" Dipper asked.
"Yes, you will be joining the football team from now on." Powers added.
"Wait, what?!" Dipper was by no means happy. "Why?! Isn't it, like, wasting my time?"
"You will go so that we'll have a comfort time and place to meet for debrief. Besides, physical fitness is not a stranger for you from all the times you had to run away from danger."
"Ha!"
You don't have to be so happy about it, Mabel…
"Let me rephrase it. During the lesson, you were among the few who could still stand. Your stamina is more than enough for running and evading opponents around the field. No one will bet an eye if you'd join."
