Hi guys! This is my first fanfiction, so please bear with me. I wrote this because there just isn't enough marellinh in the world. Also, all characters belong to Shannon Messenger. Enjoy!

Marella

Hi, I'm Marella Redek. I go to Foxfire, and I'm a pyrokinetic who everybody is scared of. Honestly, I don't blame them. I mean, if you're my friend, you either get burned alive or have your secrets told to the entire school. I'm not actually like that, though. I've gained a lot of control over my pyrokinesis, and I would never gossip about Dex or Linh or, well... maybe a little bit about Tam. But anyways, I've gotten better.

I wake up to my mom screaming, sobbing and laughing at the same time, and I hear my dad and Elwin trying to get her to take an elixir. I quickly get dressed, and by the time I'm downstairs, my mom has calmed down enough to take the elixir and sit down. I walk over to her and give her a hug, but it's short-lasted as I see mallowelt over her shoulder. After stuffing my face with a few hundred slices of mallowmelt, I grab my bag and head to the leapmaster.

"I'm going now, see you after school!" I call over my shoulder before glittering away. When I reach Foxfire, I look around. Spotting Dex, I make my way over to him, where he's chatting with Sophie. It always has to be Sophie. Even though Dex is always left behind and Sophie treats him like trash, he still follows her around like a puppy, I think.

"Hi Dex! Hi Sophie." I say as I join them.

"Oh, hi Marella!" Dex says brightly.

"Oh, yeah, hi Marella." Sophie says, clearly not caring about my existence. But then, when they need my help, she's suddenly my bestie. I'm about to say something snarky back, when two familiar silver-eyed figures make their way over.

"Linh! Tam." I exclaim as they join us.

"Hi Marella! Hi Sophie and Dex." Linh greets us. She opens her mouth, but before she can say anything, the bell rings.

"Oh, well, that's the bell! See you guys at lunch!" I say before heading to my first class, the Universe. Of course I had to get Lady Belva, the most boring mentor ever. After that, I have Multispeciasial Studies before I get to go to lunch. When I get there, Tam and Dex are already there, so I sit down across from them and wait for Linh to get there. Finally! I think as she arrives. I watch her as she grabs a food tray and makes her way over to the table. As she sees me, her face lights up. Surely she can't be that happy to see me of all people? She sits down beside me, and I ask her,

"How were your classes?"

"Good, how were yours?" she replies with a smile.

"They were fine, unless you count the boring lectures." I say. Linh looks down, picking at her food, and I can tell something is clearly on her mind. Or someone my brain thinks hopefully and stupidly. If she's thinking of someone, then it's probably not me. It's probably Fitz or someone like that, I chide myself. Then Linh looks up at me, a nervous look on her face.

"Marella?" she asks me.

"Yeah?" I reply curiously.

"Do you, uh, wanna come over after school today?" she asks. I light up as I say,

"Yeah, sure! I'll just have to go home, change, and tell my parents first, if that's ok." Linh smiles, and I think she brightens? Though it's probably just my mind playing tricks on me, hoping that she likes me back. She probably doesn't though, I tell myself, but still, a little voice whispers in the back of my mind, but maybe she does. I try to squash the thought, but it still resurfaces, so I push it aside to deal with later. Then, the bell rings, and I have to go to class. I wave good-bye to my friends before going to my next class, alchemy. Ugh. Still, the rest of the day goes by pretty quickly, and soon, I'm at the leapmaster, saying bye to Dex. Then I turn to Linh and say,

"See you soon!" before glittering away. When I get home, I change out of my (ridiculous) Foxfire uniform. Then I call to my parents,

"Bye mom and dad! I'm going to Linh's house!" Before calling out,

"Choralmere!" and the light whisks me away.
