Prologue
Plot: After Thor falls into the void, Loki doesn't see him again until he's sent to Earth to stop his brother's attack. An alien invasion is the last of things Steve expected to draw him back into the fight, but with an old threat from his past returning, he doesn't have much choice.
The nine realms were supposed to be his. They were going to be until he lost them because of Loki.
And then he lost himself. He thought he would die eventually, falling through space with no end in sight, but he survived. He's Asgardian. He was going to be the king of Asgard. Of course, he survived.
Thor stands in the darkness, watching as his new army prepares for battle.
The Other – one of the people here – steps out of the shadows, approaching him with the new weapon they crafted just for him.
It's shaped like an axe with a glittering yellow stone encased in the center. He doesn't know what it is exactly, but he can feel its power. It will be useful to him.
Mjolnir won't answer to his call and he's not happy with that, but his new weapon will do.
Stormbreaker.
Maybe he'll pick her up again on the way back to Asgard, take her back from wherever she's been all this time. From where she abandoned him just like everyone else.
"He is ready to lead," says the Other, as though Thor hasn't been ready for that a long time ago. "And out force, the Chitauri will follow."
Thor glances past him to the endless lines of these beings.
They're not like Asgardians, but they do have the advantage of endless numbers. There's tens of thousands of them here, all for him to command. He's more than ready.
"The world will be his," the Other goes on, because they had to agree that he'd be the one to rule once this was over, for him to agree to help them, "The universe yours. And the humans, what can they do but burn?"
