Walter had come so far in just one week, his little face full of delight at the bright colours and familiar voices of the NICU. Toshiko had materialized from nowhere to try and convince him to take the night off, let the little guy sleep but she didn't understand at all, did she.

Walter's first Christmas had slid on past and now the new year was about to dawn. Not just Walter's first new year, but the first one without Lisa. While the world celebrated the turning of the calendar, Ianto could only remember how much Lisa loved all of this. Dragging him out for fun he didn't want to go out for and enjoying it just watching her.

No, he sat by the little crib and spent the time with her Bragging Book New Year Edition. Yes, Lisa was just as pedantic as him and yes, she did have a phot album that was each and every bloody New Year's Eve party she had ever attended…. One of the photos not at a party but taken on a romantic beach, the tide and sunrose behind them as they stood grinning at the camera, their honeymoon.

That one took his breath and for a moment he felt like he might have one of his panic attacks, letting the album slide from his hands and he griped the edge of the crib, the little one inside seeming to know his Taddy was in a spot of bother so, as Ianto stood there gripping the stupid crib with those stupid tears flowing over a stupid memory…Walter cooed.

Ianto gasped, for the first time his son was communicating and the lovely matronly nurse was nearby, having just fed a little one and she spun to watch as the little bay waved a tiny hand up at Ianto and garbled at him.

His first New Year's Eve and as midnight came Ianto felt a lessening of the fist around his heart as another First hit the baby book.

Walter's first song.

His baby had sung for him, he was sure of it. So was the lovely nurse. She had told everyone the next day with hushed tones and wide eyes that she was sure that little fella was destined to be a bloody rock star or something, the tune almost recognizable as his little squeals had sounded just like a little song.

Ianto knew it was.

Walter had sung.

He was going to be a bloody star!

In Ianto's heart, he already was one.
