(AN) Hello and welcome to my first fic based on the 2011 version of Straw Dogs.
For this fic, I decided to do what I did for the original and show what I think happens after the events of the remake, since both are different enough that I think you can get away with it.
Disclaimer: I don't own Straw Dogs; all characters and locations are owned by their respective owners.
Straw Dogs: Aftermath of Violence
Prologue
David Sumner stood in front of the now burning barn; feeling nothing but utter horror and shock; seeing the flickering flames as they engulfed the building with smoke billowing into the sky and hearing nothing but the crackling flames and the approaching sirens.
"David?" came a quiet voice from behind.
David whirled round and saw his wife standing just a few feet away; a concerned expression on her face.
"David, are you alright?" asked Amy gently as she approached her husband.
The screenwriter simply shook his head. Never in his darkest nightmares had he imagined his and Amy's trip to her childhood home would end in violence and death. The young man simply walked up to the blonde and shared a hug with her. The young couple began sobbing into each other's shoulders.
"D-David, what have we done!" sobbed Amy in a distraught manner. "W-we killed them!"
"I know, I know!" muttered David in reply. "But we had no choice; they were going to kill us!"
The two parted from their hug as several police cars, ambulances and firetrucks rolled into the farmyard. Two police officers hopped out of one of the cars and approached the trembling couple. One was a middle-aged man with messy grey hair and a moustache and the other was a middle-aged woman with dark hair.
"Mr and Mrs Sumner, I'm Detective Tim Evans; this is my partner Kate Gallighar," said the male detective. "Where is Jeremy-
It was at that point that Tim turned around and noticed the burning car and the large pickup truck that had been rammed through the wall of the house.
"We heard things got a bit heated, but we didn't know they'd gotten that heated." remarked Kate as she and Tim approached the hole in the wall.
The two detectives entered the house and gasped in horror at the carnage that lay before them: Tom with a bullet wound in his chest; angry, red blisters on his hands and face, and not too far away was the bloodied and bruised body of Bic; a bloodstained fireplace poker lying next to his body. Chris was hanging limply through a broken window; a shard of glass cutting into his neck; one of his hands was nailed to the windowframe. The duo found Charlie's body in the study; his head caught in a bear trap.
"What the hell happened here!" uttered Tim as he walked over to Tom and knelt down next to him. Tim checked for a pulse and could feel a faint one. "I've got a pulse!" he called out.
Kate knelt down next to Bic and checked for a pulse, but could feel nothing. "Bic's dead." she announced gravely.
Tim stood up as two paramedics raced into the living room.
"Chris is alive too." said Kate as she felt for a pulse.
The detective headed up the stairs; Kate following close behind.
The two detectives entered David and Amy's bedroom and saw Norman and Jeremy lying motionless on the floor. Evans and Gallighar walked over and checked for pulses.
"Jeremy's alive." confirmed Kate in a relieved sounding voice.
"Norman's got a weak pulse." said Tim.
Outside, David and Amy watched on as paramedics exited the house with Tom, Jeremy and Norman on stretchers. Charlie and Bic were brought out with sheets covering them. Finally, the two detectives came out and approached the young couple.
"Mr and Mrs Sumner, after you've been taken to hospital and examined, we'd like to ask you a few questions," said Kate in a serious manner. "Do you think you're up for that?"
David and Amy simply nodded.
"We found Burke's body," informed Tim gravely. "Tom Heddon, Norman Scutt and Chris Cawsey are barely hanging on, but Jeremy Niles has just been knocked out."
"Thank God." sighed Amy in relief.
The screenwriter and the actress hopped into the back of one of the ambulances, which drove off; sirens blaring.

In the next chapter, David and Amy explain what happened, we learn the fates of Tom, Norman, Jeremy and Chris, and there are revelations from Amy.
