Inspired by Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V: The Fifth Factor
After burning out from my previous Arc-V fanfic, I'm back to try this thing one more time. I've gotten a decent bit better at writing so I feel confident enough to try something like this out. Though, I'm open to any advice when it comes to my writing since I'm still really new to this. I hope you enjoy this.
This fic will use a mix of Anime and TCG effects (whichever one is better in my opinion).
Disclaimer: I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V, or any of its characters and related IPs. I only own the OC's and some of the original cards that appear in this story. Characters are also aged up 2 years, since I feel better writing about characters that are more my age.
Chapter 1: The Amnesiac
In the space between dimensions, a young man drifted through space aimlessly. The teen had grey hair and a similar-colored duel disk attached to his left arm. In his hand were five monster cards, each depicting a different, magnificent dragon.
Eventually, after drifting for an unknown amount of time, the cards in his hand began to glow. Soon, a portal appeared right in front of him, engulfing him and transporting him to an unknown place. When the youth awoke from his slumber, he found himself in an unknown room. When he looked around, he noticed that he was in a classroom of sorts.
Where am I?
The 16-year-old thought before he noticed a group of people entering the room.
"Oh, look! He's awake." A pink-haired young woman around his age said.
"She's right!" This time, a much younger girl with short red hair spoke.
The rest of the group all entered the room, observing the newly awakened young man with keen interest.
"Hey, doesn't he look just like Yuya?" A cyan-haired youth with a lollipop in his mouth asked.
"Now that you mention it, he does." A tall burly man in a white dojo uniform chimed in.
"Are you sure he looks like me though?" A youth with red and green hair, who they called Yuya asked. "Our hair and eye colors are completely different."
"I think so." The lollipop eating responded. "It's like he's your long-lost twin or something."
"Who are you, people?" The grey-haired youth asked. "And where am I."
"Oh right, I'm Yuzu," The pink-haired girl replied, "That's Yuya, Sora, Ayu, Tatsuya, Futoshi, Gongenzaka, and my father Shuzo."
Yuzu went down the line naming each one of them.
I hope she doesn't expect me to remember their names when she just rapid-fired them like that.
She continued, "As for where you are, you're at the You Show Duel School. We found you passed out on the ground near the place so we decided to bring you inside until you woke up."
"Passed out?" The grey-haired teen tapped his head. "Damn, I can't remember what happened before?"
"Do you have amnesia or something?" Sora inquired. "Do you even remember your name?"
"My name…" The grey-haired youth thought about it for a moment. "...It's Yuuji, Haruki Yuuji."
Yuuji's right arm grazed his left for a moment before the youth began frantically patting it down.
"Huh? Wait, where is my duel disk? My deck!?" Yuuji worriedly looked around for it.
"It's over there." Yuzu pointed to the front desk, which had his duel disk and deck on it.
"Oh, thank you."
Yuuji made his way to the front, grabbing his duel disk and deck, and breathing a sigh of relief. He didn't know what he would do without his deck, even if he didn't remember where or how he had gotten it.
"You seem to be attached to those cards, Yuuji," Yuya commented as he approached his lookalike, "Are you a good duelist?"
"I'm not so sure myself," Yuuji answered. "I can't…remember anything that happened before now."
Yuya was silent for a moment, thinking about something, before speaking once again.
"Wait, I have an idea. We should duel!" Yuya proposed.
"Duel? The two of us?" Yuuji questioned.
"Yeah," Yuya nodded, "Maybe we can jolt some of your memories again by doing something you're familiar with."
That does sound like a good idea now that I think about it.
"You know what? Sure, why not?" Yuuji agreed. "But where would we duel?"
"We have a Solid Vision Arena for that, follow me." Yuya motioned for Yuuji to follow him.
"Right."
Yuya led Yuuji into the Real Solid Vision Arena, with the two of them taking their post on either end of the room.
"You have any preference for Action Fields?" Yuya asked.
"An Action what?" Yuuji tilted his head in confusion.
"Oh right, he has amnesia…" Yuya muttered. "It's a field spell that changes the area around us into a different terrain using Solid Vision Technology. Under the Real Solid Vision technology, Duel Monsters and all of their abilities are tangible in the real world."
"Oh. That's neat," Yuuji said.
"Duels under an Action Field are called Action Duels," Yuya continued, "At the start of the duel, Action Cards are spread throughout the field, each with their different effects. Do you kind of understand what we're doing now?"
"Yeah," Yuuji nodded, "I think I got the basics."
"Aw, how come Yuya gets first dibs on dueling him," Sora whined in the stands, "I wanted to duel him."
"I, the man Gongenzaka, think you should've asked him first before Yuya did if you wanted to duel him." The burly man replied.
"I didn't think that he would propose a duel when he went up to him though." Sora sulked.
"Guys, shut up already!" Yuzu shouted at the two. "The duel is about to start."
"Alright, let's get this show on the road!" Shuzo announced from his booth. "Action Field on! The Field Spell for this duel will be Crystal Mirrors!"
The area around the two duelists changes, with them being placed in a world made up of only floating mirrors.
"Duelist locked in battle!" Yuya started chanting, much to Yuuji's confusion.
A chant? But…what am I supposed to say?
"Kicking the earth and dancing in the air alongside their monsters!" Yuzu continued.
"They storm through this field!" Gongenzaka said.
"Behold!" Sora said. "This is the newest and greatest evolution of Dueling!"
[Action—!] The three younger You Show youths shouted together.
Okay, I'm not sure what's going on, but let's just try our best here.
Yuuji thought as he and Yuya both activated their duel disks.
[Duel!]
The two shout in unison
Yuya — LP: 4000
Yuuji — LP: 4000
"I'll go first!" Yuya announced. "I set the Pendulum Scale with Scale 1 Stargazer Magician and Scale 8 Timegazer Magician! Let's get this party started!"
"Huh!?" Yuuji's eyes widened as he watched two magician monsters rise into two different Pendulum Zones. In the middle was a swinging Pendulum, similar to the one on Yuya's necklace. Numbers 1 and 8 were printed in each of the zones.
"Now I can summon monsters Levels 2 through 7 all at the same time!" Yuya declared. "Swing, Pendulum of Souls! Draw an arc of light across the ether! Pendulum Summon! Please welcome to the field, Performapal Sword Fish (Water/Fish/Effect/ATK: 600/DEF: 600/LV: 2), and the dragon with wondrous and beautiful dichromatic eyes! Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon (Dark/Dragon/Pendulum/Effect/ATK: 2500/DEF: 2000/LV: 7/SC: 4)!"
A blue, sharp-looking fish and a giant bipedal dragon with dual-colored eyes appeared on the youth field.
"I set one card and end my turn!" Yuya concluded with a facedown card appearing on his field. "You're up Yuuji."
"Oh right," Yuuji regained composure, "I just didn't expect you to use something like that."
"Surprising, right?" Yuya confidently boasted. "I'm the only one able to do it after all."
Well, he can't be the only one if I have Pendulum Cards too right? But I don't remember where I even got them from.
Yuuji frowned. However, he didn't want to think about it much. Right now, he was supposed to have fun dueling against a new opponent, something he felt he had always done.
"My turn! Draw!" Yuuji drew a card. "I summon the Tuner Monster, Antique Resonance Mirror (Light/Fairy/Tuner/Pendulum/Effect/ATK: 0/ DEF: 0/ LV: 2/SC: 4)."
A beautiful floating mirror appeared on his field.
"A tuner?" Tatsuya asked. "Does that mean he specializes in Synchro Summoning?"
"When this monster is Normal Summoned to my field, I can Special Summon another 'Antique' monster from my deck. I choose to summon Antique Grandclock (Light/Fairy/Pendulum/Effect/ATK: 0/DEF: 0/LV: 5/SC: 8)."
This time, a pristine-looking grandfather clock appeared on the field.
"Two monsters with 0 ATK points? How does he expect to beat Yuya with those?" Yuzu frowned.
"Don't forget that he summoned a Tuner Monster, Yuzu," Sora pointed out, "He's probably about to Synchro Summon something big."
"When Antique Grandclock is Special Summoned directly from my deck, I can add a Spell/Trap Card from my deck that mentions the word "Fusion" directly to my hand," Yuuji stated as he picked out a card from his deck.
"A Fusion Spell, is he a Fusion user as well?" Gongenzaka wondered. "Could he be well versed in all of the summoning methods?"
Yuuji's expression suddenly turned serious, "I now tune my Level 2 Antique Resonance Mirror with my Level 5 Antique Grandclock!"
"A Synchro Summon!?" Yuya exclaimed as he watched the two monsters transform into green rings and orbs respectively. The five orbs form a straight line as they are surrounded by two rings.
"Brilliant dragon that rides through sonic winds," Yuuji chanted, "Descend from the clouds and ravage all who stand before you! Synchro Summon! Appear now, Level 7! Clear Wing Fast Dragon (Wind/Dragon/Synchro/Pendulum/Effect/ATK: 2500/DEF: 2000/LV: 7/SC: 4)!"
After a blinding green light filled the field, a brilliant flying dragon with shining white scales that had a few green gemstones sticking out from parts of its body appeared on the field. Its large arms bolster sharp claws, capable of slicing through even the most durable armor.
"Incredible…" Yuzu said in awe. "It's so beautiful."
"I'm not done yet!" Yuuji announced. "I place Scale 4 Odd-Eyes Phantom Dragon into my Pendulum Zone!"
[What!?] Everyone other than Yuuji exclaimed in unison as a purple dragon with bone-like armor around it rose into the Pendulum Zone.
"How…" Yuya paused for a moment. "How do you have a Pendulum Card?"
"I don't know," Yuuji shrugged, "Amnesia remember?"
"But…"
"Now's not time to worry about that, Yuya!" Yuuji declared. "I now enter my Battle Phase! Clear Wing Fast Dragon, attack his Performapal Sword Fish! Whirlwind Sonic Driver!"
Clear Wing Fast Dragon soars into the air, erupting into a green light as it flies toward Yuya's monster. At the same time, Yuya hopped onto his monster and began searching for an Action Card.
"Performapal Sword Fish effect activates!" Yuya counters. "Once per turn, I can target a monster on the field and decrease its ATK by 600! I choose to target your Clear Wing Fast Dragon!"
Yuya's monster glows, emitting a light that stuns Yuuji's dragon for a moment.
(Clear Wing Fast Dragon — ATK: 2500 → 1900)
"Naive!" Yuuji shouts. "Odd-Eyes Phantom Dragon's Pendulum Effect Activates, once per turn, when a Pendulum Monster declares an attack, it gains 1200 ATK points!"
"No way!?" Yuya shouts.
(Clear Wing Fast Dragon — ATK: 1900 → 3100)
"Now destroy his monster, Clear Wing!"
"Not yet!" Yuya leaps for an Action Spell, grabbing a card. However, when he saw what he had drawn, he frowned. "This can't help me at all right now…"
Clear Wing Fast Dragon slams into Performapal Sword Fish, destroying the mirror flooring around the area and creating a shockwave that causes Yuya to fly off his dragon onto the ground.
Yuya — LP: 4000 → 1500
"I set two cards and end my turn," Yuuji concludes. "You're going to have to try a lot harder than that if you want to beat me."
(Clear Wing Fast Dragon — ATK: 3100 → 2500)
"Damn…" Yuya cursed as he struggled to get back on his feet, "I still can't believe that you have Pendulum Cards."
"Sounds like something you're going to have to accept already," Yuuji frowned, "I'm not sure how or where Pendulum originates from, or how you or I had gotten it, but believing that a summoning method like this would be yours alone is naive and selfish."
"..."
"I mean, it's an amazing summoning method, one that I'm sure many would want to use to have lots of fun dueling," Yuuji continued, "It's not something that only one person should have to himself."
Yuya thought about Yuuji's words for a moment, before coming to his realization.
"You're right, what was I even thinking? It's against the very idea of entertainment dueling if I don't allow people to have just as much fun as I do when I duel," Yuya berated himself, "But that doesn't mean I'm completely okay with the idea. I finally felt special because of it, believing that I had something that no one else had. Without it, how am I supposed to make an impact on the hearts of the people like my dad did?"
"I can't answer that for you," Yuuji replied, "That's something that you'll have to figure out for yourself. I'm not sure where the quote is from, but the answers lie within you."
Yuya thought about it for a moment before nodding resolutely, "Got it. I'll do just that!"
Glad to see that he's regained his confidence again. Yuuji thought.
"My turn! Draw!" Yuya drew a card before extending his arms outward. "Ladies and Gentlemen! Today, I'll show you a performance that'll leave you starving for more! With my currently set Pendulum Scale, I Pendulum Summon Performapal Cheermole (Earth/Beast/Pendulum/Effect/ATK: 600/DEF: 1000/LV: 2/SC: 5) from my hand!"
A pink mole monster dressed in a green cheer costume appeared on the field. Yuya then hopped onto his dragon, as he continued his turn.
"Battle! Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, attack his Clear Wing Fast Dragon! Spiral Flame Strike!" Yuya commanded his dragon, who shot a flame blast at Yuuji's dragon.
"What?" Futoshi wondered. "But don't they have the same attack?"
"Odd-Eyes Phantom Dragon's Pendulum effect activates once again, increasing my dragon's ATK by 1200 during the Battle Phase!" Yuuji counters.
(Clear Wing Fast Dragon — ATK: 2500 → 3700)
"That won't matter!" Yuya declared. "I activate the Action Spell I picked up earlier, Over Sword! During the Battle Phase, I can increase the attack of a monster I control by 500! I choose to increase Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon's ATK!"
(Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon — ATK: 2500 → 3000)
"But it's still not nearly enough to defeat my Clear Wing," Yuuji stated, "Unless…"
"Performapal Cheermole's effect now activates!" Yuya continues. "Once per turn, if a monster on the field gains ATK, it gains 1000 extra ATK points!"
(Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon — ATK: 3000 → 4000)
"So that was your plan," Yuuji smiled, "Well then, Yuya. Show me what you've got!"
"Go Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, destroy his monster!" Yuya shouted. "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon's effect now activates! When it battles and destroys a Level 5 or higher monster, the battle damage you receive is double! Reaction Force!"
The spiral flames engulf Yuuji's Clear Wing, destroying it and creating a shockwave that causes Yuuji to wince.
Yuuji — LP: 4000 → 3400
"When Clear Wing Fast Dragon is destroyed, I can place it into an empty Pendulum Zone and complete my Pendulum Scale," Yuuji states as his formerly destroyed dragon rises into a second Pendulum Zone.
"So his Synchro Monster really is a Pendulum Monster," Yuzu commented. "I didn't think that was possible."
"Performapal Cheermole now attacks you directly!" Yuya continued, his pink mole monster leaping forward and slapping Yuuji across the face a few times.
Yuuji — LP: 3400 → 2800
"I set two cards and end my turn, and with the end of my turn, Odd-Eyes' attack returns to normal (Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon — ATK: 4000 → 2500)," Yuya wraps up his turn by placing one facedown. "You're up."
"My turn! Draw!" Yuuji drew a card. "I activate my set trap, Pendulum Fusion! When I only control monsters in my Pendulum zone, I can tribute both monsters from my Pendulum Zones to Fusion Summon a Pendulum Fusion from my Extra Deck! I now fuse my Clear Wing Fast Dragon and my Odd-Eyes Phantom Dragon!"
"What, no way!?" Sora commented in shock. "That kind of Fusion Summoning is possible!?"
Yuuji's two dragons fly into the air, fusing as the grey-haired teen begins chanting.
"Ruler of the open skies, and the dragon born from phantoms. Fuse and become the most sinister of dragons! Fusion Summon! Descend now, Level 7! Starve Venemy Dragon (Dark/Dragon/Fusion/Pendulum/Effect/ATK: 2500/DEF: 2000/LV: 7/SC: 1)!"
A savage dragon with purple and green colored scales appeared on the field. Globs of drool dripped down from its mouth, which had multiple sets of sharp, long teeth on them. The dragon let out a terrifying roar, shaking the mirror arena with its presence alone.
"Starve Venemy's effect activates! With it, it can target one monster you control, copy its name and effects, negate that monster's effects, decrease that monster's ATK and DEF by 500 until the End Phase, and deal 500 points of damage to you. I choose to target your Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!"
Roots shoot out from Starve Venemy, wrapping around Odd-Eyes and weakening the dragon. Another root extended towards Yuya, knocking him off Odd-Eyes.
(Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon — ATK: 2500 → 2000, DEF: 2000 → 1500)
Yuya — LP: 1500 → 1000
"Hey, isn't this like really bad for Yuya?" Sora asked aloud. "If Yuuji's dragon battles any one of his monsters, he's done for."
"I, the man Gongenzaka, am confident that Yuya has a way out of this," Gongenzaka had faith in his friend, "He won't fall here."
"Let's see if you can counter this, Yuya!" Yuuji shouted. "Battle! Starve Venemy Dragon, attack Performapal Cheermole and end this duel! Savage Sinning Slashes!"
Starve Venemy flies forward, its body emitting sparkling purple and green light as it soars toward Yuya's monster.
"I activate my trap card, Performapal Second Chance!" Yuya countered. "For the rest of this turn, Performapal Monsters I control cannot be destroyed by battle, and all damage I take in battles involving Performapal Monsters is reduced to 0."
Stave Venemy tries to attack Cheermole, but it's protected by a barrier, which blocks the dragon's attack.
"Damn…" Yuuji muttered. "So if I had attacked Odd-Eyes instead, I could've won this duel already. I got greedy."
Yuuji then placed a card on his duel disk.
"I set one card and end my turn," Yuuji concluded, "And with the end of my turn, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon's ATK and DEF returns to normal."
(Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon — ATK: 2000 → 2500, DEF: 1500 → 2000)
"I have to say, I'm having a lot of fun right now, Yuya," Yuuji admitted, "I'm glad we could keep this going at least a little bit longer."
"I am too, you're a really good duelist," Yuya replied, "However, don't think this is over just because you have a strong monster like that on the field. My turn! Draw!"
Yuya drew a card, and when he looked at what he drew, he was confused.
"When was this in my deck?" He asked aloud.
"What's wrong, Yuya? Drew a bad card?" Yuuji asked.
"No, it's actually just what I needed," Yuya smiled, "I activate the Spell Card Polymerization!"
"Fusion!?" Yuuji exclaimed before smiling. "You're just surprising me more and more now, Yuya."
"I fuse my Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon with my Performapal Cheermole!" Yuya announced as his two monsters rose into the air and fused. He began chanting, "Cheerful Mole. Become one with the arcane dragon to create a new power! Fusion Summon! Come forth, Level 8! The ferocious dragon with luminous feral eyes! Beast-Eyes Pendulum Dragon (Earth/Dragon/Fusion/Effect/ATK: 3000/DEF: 2000/LV: 8)!"
A bipedal dragon similar to Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, but with brownish scales and a more feral and savage look appeared on Yuya's field.
"Yuya…can Fusion Summon now?" Yuzu asked in awe. "When did this happen?"
"..." Sora remained silent, though a sly smirk formed on his face as he saw his little plan work out in some way. Though he didn't expect Yuya to summon something like that with it.
"That's an impressive monster and all, but I activate Starve Venemy's effect once again, negating your monster's effects, decreasing its ATK and DEF, and dealing 500 points of damage to you!" Yuuji shouted.
Starve Venemy sends roots toward Beast-Eyes, trapping the dragon. Yuya is then once again attacked by a root, but he manages to dodge it before he is directly attacked by it once again.
(Beast-Eyes Pendulum Dragon — ATK: 3000 → 2500, DEF: 2000 → 1500)
Yuya — LP: 1000 → 500
"This is only a minor setback!" Yuya declared. "With my currently set Pendulum Scale, I Pendulum Summon! Return from the extra deck, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon (ATK: 2500/DEF: 2000/LV: 7/SC: 4) and Performapal Cheermole (ATK: 600/DEF: 1000/LV: 2/SC: 5) in defense mode! And from my hand, Performapal Whip Snake (Earth/Reptile/Effect/ATK: 1700/DEF: 900/LV: 4)!"
Three beams of energy emerge from the portal with Odd-Eyes, Cheermole, and a purple snake with a top hat appearing on Yuya's field.
"Performapal Whip Snake's effect now activates! Once per turn, I can switch the ATK and DEF of a monster on my opponent's field!" Yuya shouted. "I obviously choose your Starve Venemy Dragon."
(Starve Venemy Dragon — ATk: 2500 → 2000, DEF: 2000 → 2500)
"Alright!" Yuzu cheered. "Now both of Yuya's dragons have higher ATK than Yuuji's dragon. He can win!"
"It's too soon to count him out," Gongenzaka stated, "I, the man Gongenzaka, believe Yuuji has at least one more trick up his sleeve."
Yuya hops on his Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon and starts moving towards Yuuji with his monster.
"Battle! Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, attack his Starve Venemy Dragon! Spiral Flame Strike!" Yuya's dragon shoots a breath of fire at Starve Venemy. "And since Odd-Eyes battles a Level 5 or higher monster, the battle damage you receive is double! Reaction Force!"
The explosion goes through Starve Venemy, sending Yuuji flying back into a mirror wall.
Yuuji — LP: 2800 → 1800
"When…Starve Venemy is destroyed by battle or card effect, I can place it in an empty Pendulum Zone." Yuuji struggled to say, as his dragon rose into one of his Pendulum Zones.
"Now go Beast-Eyes, attack Yuuji directly and finish this duel! Hell Dive Burst!" Yuya commanded his other dragon, who shoots a breath of fire directly at the defenseless teen.
"Not so fast!" Yuuji shouts. "I activate my trap card, Pendulum Recharge! When I control no monsters on my field, I can place 1 Monster from my hand or Extra Deck into one of my empty Pendulum Zones. I choose to place Odd-Eyes Phantom Dragon into my Pendulum Zone!"
Now, Phantom Dragon rises into an empty Pendulum Zone, completing Yuuji's Pendulum Scale. Scale Number 1 was printed under Starve Venemy's Zone, while Scale Number 4 was printed on Phantom Dragon's Zone.
"Now with my newly set Pendulum Scale, I can activate the trap card Pendulum Barrier!" Yuuji announced. "For every two numbers between my two Pendulum Scales, I can negate one instance of an attack during the Battle Phase. Since there are only two numbers between the two Pendulum Scales, I can only negate 1 attack. I choose to negate your Beast-Eye's attack!"
A glowing Pendulum appears on Yuuji's field, creating a barrier that stops Beast-Eye's flames from reaching Yuuji.
"Now it's your turn Performapal Whip Snake!" Yuya commanded his monster. "Attack Yuuji directly!"
"Starve Venemy's Pendulum Effect activates!" Yuuji counters. "Once per turn, I can reduce the battle damage I receive from an attack to zero!"
Once again, a barrier appeared in front of Yuuji, preventing him from Yuya's attack.
"Starve Venemy's other Pendulum Effect now activates," Yuuji continued, "Whenever a card leaves the field, Starve Venemy gets 1 Venemy Counter. For each Venemy Counter on it, all monsters except DARK Monsters lose 200 ATK. Since my two trap cards left the field, all non-DARK Monsters you control lose 400 ATK."
(Beast-Eyes Pendulum Dragon — ATK: 2500 → 2100)
(Performapal Cheermole — ATK: 600 → 200)
(Performapal Whip Snake — ATK: 1700 → 1300)
"Well, that's all I can do," Yuya scratched the back of his head, "I end my turn."
"And Beast-Eyes Pendulum Dragon regains the 500 ATK and DEF it lost due to Starve Venemy's Monster Effect," Yuuji stated.
(Beast-Eyes Pendulum Dragon — ATK: 2100 → 2600, DEF: 1500 → 2000)
"He managed to stop Yuya-oniichan's attacks," Ayu frowned, "I seriously thought he was finished there."
"Ooh, all of this back and forth is giving me the shivers!" Futoshi commented.
"But now the duel is heavily in Yuya's favor," Yuzu stated, "Yuuji's Pendulum Scale can't get him anything except Level 2 and 3 monsters."
"We'll have to wait and see, a duel could change drastically with just a single draw," Gongenzaka stated.
Yuuji stood there for a moment and thought. He was in a tight spot. He had no cards in his hand that he could use to destroy his current Pendulum Scale, meaning he was stuck with summoning only Level 2 and 3 monsters. However, he couldn't even think about summoning anything thanks to the fact that he had no monster cards in his hand, and he had no way to search for any more. He would need to rely on this final draw if he wanted to find a way out.
My deck, don't let me down now.
"Then it's my turn! Draw!" Yuuji drew a card, and when he saw it, he smiled. This is exactly what he needed. "I summon Antique Flower Pot (Light/Fairy/Pendulum/Effect/ATK: 0/DEF: 0/LV: 1/SC: 6). Once per turn, I can target 1 Level 5 or lower Pendulum Monster from my deck, and Special Summon it. Arise now, Maiden of Broken Mirrors (Light/Fairy/Pendulum/Effect/ATK: 2000 → 1600/DEF: 1600/LV: 5/SC: 8)!"
A pristine flower pot and a woman dressed in all black, holding a mirror to her chest, appeared.
"Maiden of Broken Mirror's effect now activates, allowing me to set a Spell/Trap card from my deck to my field, however in exchange, I cannot activate Spell/Trap cards until the end of this turn!" Yuuji continued as a card was placed facedown on his field. "And for every set card on my field, Pendulum Monsters I control gain 200 ATK!"
(Maiden of Broken Mirrors — ATK: 1600 → 1800)
"Now he had a strong enough monster to destroy Yuya's Whip Snake and wipe out his life points…" Yuzu muttered.
"That's not all, I set four more cards down on my field!" Yuuji announced as four more facedown cards appeared on his side, increasing his monster's ATK even more.
(Maiden of Broken Mirrors — ATK: 1800 → 2600)
(Antique Flower Pot — ATK: 0 → 600)
"Battle!" Yuuji shouted. "Maiden of Broken Mirrors, attack Yuya's Performapal Whip Snake and finish this duel!"
"I won't let you!" Yuya responds as his final trap card is flipped face-up. "I activate the trap card, Last Minute Cancel! Because of its effect, all monsters on my field are flipped into defense position!"
All of Yuya's monsters have a faint blue glow appear around their body, as they are switched into defense position.
"Alright, now Yuya-oniichan's Life Points are safe!" Ayu cheered. "He'll win!"
"Maiden of Broken Mirrors' final effect now activates!" Yuuji declared. "When this monster battles a monster in defense position, it can inflict piercing damage!"
"What!?" Yuya shouted in shock.
"Finish this, Mirror Maiden! Crystal Beam!" Yuuji commanded his monster. The female monster's mirror began to glow, emitting a beam of light that completely engulfed Whip Snake and Yuya, creating an explosion that shook the mirror island.
Yuya — LP: 500 → 0
Winner: Yuuji
I need to fix up my deck, I had four spell cards in my hand that had such niche conditions to activate. Yuuji thought.
The Real Solid Vision machine turns off, returning the two duelists to the arena. Yuuji dusted himself off before approaching Yuya, still on the ground after the last attack.
"That was fun," Yuuji extended his hand, "Let's do this again sometime."
"Yeah," Yuya accepted Yuuji's hand, and he lifted the entertainment duelist back onto his feet. "For someone with amnesia, you're a crazy good duelist."
"Thanks," Yuuji smiled, "You're also really good, you almost had me when you summoned that Fusion Dragon of yours."
Soon, the rest of the You Show Students entered the room, with the youngest of the students bombarding Yuuji with a bunch of questions and comments about the duel. Yuuji tried to answer them as best as he could, but he was eventually overwhelmed by the onslaught.
"Alright guys, give the guy some space," Yuzu said, "Can't you see that he's uncomfortable."
[Sorry.] They said in unison.
"It's okay, just go one at a time," Yuuji reassured. "I can't answer your questions if you say them all at once."
"I got a question," Sora states, prompting the rest to turn to him, "You've already shown that you are able to use Synchro, Fusion, and Pendulum. So I'm wondering whether or not you can use all of the summoning methods."
"I can…I think?" Yuuji pulled out his deck and Extra Deck, scanning through it for a few seconds. "Yeah, I can."
"That's amazing," Yuzu said in awe, "Sucks that you don't remember your past, I would've asked if you were taught how to duel at a school."
A few more questions were asked after that, but most of them were questions that Yuuji couldn't answer due to his amnesia. Eventually, the topic of where Yuuji was going to stay was brought up.
"Where am I gonna stay?" Yuuji thought about it for a moment before smiling. "I got no idea."
"If you need a place to stay, you can stay at our place," Shuzo suggested as he approached the group.
"Really, would you be okay with it?"
"That duel of yours got me fired up, so of course it would be okay! However…" Shuzo's face suddenly turned dark. "...I'll only allow you to stay under one condition."
Yuuji gulped, "What is it?"
Shuzo remained silent for a few moments, before getting down on his knees in a pleading position, "Please join our school."
"Huh? That's it?" Yuuji was confused. "If that's all I have to do, I'm fine with it."
"Alright!" Shuzo suddenly shot up, his eyes heating up like flames. "Now that we have two Pendulum Users at the You Show Duel School, our ratings will shoot up like crazy!"
"Dad…" Yuzu frowned. "You didn't even ask if I would be okay with it."
"Oh, sorry about that, Yuzu," Shuzo scratched his head, "That kind of just slipped my mind…"
"Wait, he's your dad!?" Yuuji looked back and forth between the two. "You don't look alike at all."
"I know…" Yuzu sighed, "And we sure as hell don't act alike either."
"Hey!" Shuzo shouted. "I'm right here you know!"
"As for the Yuuji situation, I'm fine with him staying with us," Yuzu stated, "It's better than only having dad at home."
"Thank you so much," Yuuji gratefully said, "I was worried that you would make me go sleep on the street or something."
"Act even a fraction as annoying as my dad and I'll send you out there myself," Yuzu warned, "Am I clear."
"Yes, ma'am," Yuuji sweatdropped.
"Now that that's settled…" Sora chimed in, "...I challenge you to a duel, Yuuji—!"
"—No thanks," Yuuji immediately shot it down, "I already had enough dueling for today."
"Aw, no way!" Sora pouted. "How come…"
"I'm still trying to get my mind wrapped around the whole Action Duel thing," Yuuji replied, "I'm thankful that Yuya went easy on me and didn't try and grab a bunch of Action Cards during the duel. Would've made the duel a lot more annoying than it would need to be."
"I'm guessing that you're not a fan of Action Duels?" Gongenzaka asked.
"You could say that," Yuuji said, "Well…it's more that I'm not a fan of Action Cards. I feel like it removes the true essence of what makes dueling fun."
"I definitely agree with that sentiment," Gongenzaka nodded, "A true man would duel with only his deck, and not rely on any form of outside help."
"I'm already starting to like you, big guy," Yuuji smiled and patted the burly man on the shoulder, "We've got to duel sometime."
"I'll be looking forward to it," Gongenzaka smiled back.
They all continued having small talk with each other, with Yuuji learning more about Maiami City through everyone's words. Eventually, time passed, and it was time for everyone to split for a day.
"See you later, Yuzu, Yuuji!" Yuya waved as he began walking off with Sora next to him.
"Bye, Yuya!" Yuzu said her goodbyes, with both her and Yuuji waving as they walked together.
Meanwhile, at LDS Tower…
An important-looking grey-haired man walked down a corridor with his attendant. He wore red glasses, with a similarly red scarf wrapped around his neck that swayed as he stepped.
"Nakajima, what's the report?" The grey-haired young man asked his attendant.
"Our personnel detected a high level of Fusion and Synchro energies earlier today, Master Reiji," Nakajima informed, "They also detached a strong Pendulum energy, most likely from Sakaki Yuya, but we also detected a fainter amount of Pendulum energy coming from a second source nearby."
"Meaning?"
"We've concluded that a second Pendulum User has appeared, and has made contact with Sakaki Yuya." Nakajima stated, "As for his origins, it's unknown. But we've been looking into it."
"..." Reiji frowned and muttered to himself, "Could he be from another dimension…"
"We've also detected some rogue Xyz energies as well, though they most likely didn't come from the same source," Nakajima continued, "What do you think we should do, Master Reiji."
"First of all, we wait until Mother comes back to Maiami City," Reiji answered, "From there, we investigate the one who produced those Pendulum energies. Refrain from focusing on the Xyz energies for now."
"Yes sir."
Reiji turned on his duel disk, pressing a few buttons before saying:
"When the time comes, I'll confront the duelist and determine whether they're an ally or a potential enemy," Reiji stated, "If he ends up as our ally, our odds of defeating Academia will greatly increase."
If not…they'll figure it out when the time comes.
In the Fusion Dimension…
"What's the report, Doktor?" A dark-skinned man with parts of his face replaced with machinery sat atop a throne.
"We detected some changes in the realm between the dimension…" An old man with wide eyes and long, white hair that reached past his shoulders replied, "Someone anonymously crossed into the Standard Dimension, Professor."
"Do you know where they arrived from?" The Professor asked.
"No sir, from what we found, it was like the person had just appeared out of nowhere."
"..." The Professor fell into deep thought. However, he was knocked out of his thoughts when a voice rang through.
"What do you propose we do, Professor? If you order me to, I'll go straight there and kill him for you."
The man in question was a man cloaked in black, though if one looked hard enough, they would see bits of dark blonde hair hidden underneath.
"Nightshroud? What brings you here?" The Professor inquired. "I never order you to come here."
"I was just passing by when I heard about the unauthorized dimensional traveler," Nightshroud replied.
"Right…" The Professor sighed, "But remember Nightshroud, we don't kill our enemies, we're only turning them into cards so they could be used to bring about a utopia."
"It's the same thing, Professor," Nightshroud stated, "The only difference is that the weak can do so without having to worry about it being stuck in their conscious. To them it's like they're playing a collection game, to see who can kill the most people within the fastest time."
"Enough…I do not need your lectures about morality at this time Nightshroud," The Professor stands up, "And I don't need you for a matter as simple as this, I already have an agent there who could deal with it."
"Shiunin Sora is stationed there, correct?" Nightshroud replied. "Very well, I'll be taking my leave now."
The cloaked man disappeared into the shadows, leaving no trace of his presence behind.
"Doktor…" The Professor addressed the old man, "Be sure to inform Shiunin Sora about a minor change in his mission. I want him to look into this matter."
"As you wish, Professor," The Doktor bows his head before leaving the throne room, leaving the Professor alone with his thoughts.
"Wait for me, Ray…" He mutters as he turns to the ARC Reactor, which is a large machine with green energy constantly flowing into it. If one looked at it long enough, one would see cards similar to Duel Monster cards being tossed into it as fuel. "Just a bit longer, Revival Zero is close to coming into effect."

Hey, it's me the author. Thank you so much for reading. It's my second attempt at making a Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V fanfic, and I think I did decently well.
As you can, Yuuji makes use of a custom deck (I know, how dare he), but it is what it is. It'll also contain the four Manga Dimension Dragons, a Ritual Varient of the Dimensional Dragon in the anime, and other Odd-Eyes cards not shown in the anime. However, I am taking suggestions for potential cards he could add to his deck, as well as other suggestions for this story. It's still in its early stages so ideas for how the story could potentially go would be great. If you can't think of one off the top of your head, think about things you didn't like from the Arc-V anime, and what you would've liked instead. I'll try and make use of as many ideas as I can if they could fit into the overall story I want to tell.
Also, as for Yuuji as a character, I wanted someone who loves to duel for the sake of it, but not in an obnoxious way. He's just a nice guy who loves a good duel. Though, I'm definitely going to give him some "character development" along the way. As for what I mean by that, well…you'll just have to read more to find out.
If you have any other questions, feel free to leave a review and ask them. I'll try to answer some of them when the next chapter is eventually put out in 2 years (jk...maybe...).
As for the upload schedule, it'll be a bit slow at first since I want to try and build up a backlog of chapters. However at worst expect a chapter every month (probably not going to get to that point), at best every two weeks or so. No promises though since I have school and all.
I'm going to stop blabbering on now, thank you for reading (if there are more chapters, just go read ahead, you clearly liked it enough to continue a bit more if you read the first chapter to the end).
