The next few days were quiet. Everyone got home on Friday afternoon, and Steve went to pick Skye up from school.
When Skye got out of school she saw her dad standing leaning against his car waiting for her. She noticed a few students staring at him and giggling. She sighed and shook her head as she went to the car. "Hi, Dad."
"Hey, kid," he said, opening her door for her.
Skye got in, and Steve went around and got in and started the drive home.
"You know, when you stand outside your car at the school you get people staring at you, other students," Skye said.
"Oh?" Steve asked.
"Because they think you're hot," Skye said.
Steve chuckled. "Sorry, kid. Can't control that."
"I know," Skye said. So how was your work thing?"
"It was fine," Steve said. "There is a conference in January here in New York specifically for gifted youth. You are invited. Do you want to go?"
Skye's eyes lit up. "Yes!" She was never invited to any conferences.
"Okay, we will talk about what you should expect when we get closer to the day," Steve said.
"Okay," Skye said.
"Now, this weekend," Steve said.
Skye suggested a movie.
"That's the one I was thinking, too," Steve said with a smile. "Then we can get something to eat."
"Sounds good," Skye said.
"How are you feeling after the start of your week?" Steve asked.
"Fine, things have calmed down," Skye said.
"Good," Steve said as he pulled in at home.
They both went inside, and Skye went and changed. When she came out of her room, Morgan took her hand and dragged her to the living room with a book in her other hand.
Skye chuckled and sat down. Morgan handed her the book and climbed up next to her, and Skye started to read to her from the book. It was their usual Friday afternoon activity.
Steve looked at Pepper after the girls came through the kitchen. "Skye gave you no issues, I assume."
"No, she was perfectly well-behaved. She has never given me any problems," Pepper said.
Steve smiled and nodded. "Yes, I think you're about the only person she hasn't given any problems to."
Pepper nodded. "I think you are correct."
"I appreciate all you've done to help with her. This would never have worked without your help," Steve said.
"It's not a problem Steve. I am happy to do it. She is a good kid," Pepper said. "And Morgan loves having her here. too."
Steve smiled. "Skye loves Morgan, too."
"You tell her about the conference in January?" Tony asked as he came into the kitchen.
"Yes, her eyes lit up when I mentioned it. She wants to go," Steve said.
Tony smiled and nodded.
"Peter's going to be there?" Steve asked.
"Yes," Tony said.
Skye finished reading a couple of chapters from the book before putting the bookmark in place, closing the book, and handing it back to Morgan.
Morgan took the book and ran off to put it away. Skye got up, went to her room, emptied her backpack, took an envelope out, and brought it to the kitchen.
"I got the tickets," she told her dad.
"How many did you end up getting?" Steve asked.
"I could only get one extra, so three," Skye said. "You, Bucky, and Wanda."
Steve smiled and took the envelope. "Perfect."
She looked up at Pepper. "I tried really hard to get two more, but I couldn't."
Pepper smiled. "I believe you. It's okay."
"Are they going to be recording it for families to buy?" Steve asked.
"Yes, audio and video," Skye said.
"I will get a copy, and everyone who wants to can watch it," Steve said.
"Okay," Skye said.
"How was your math test?" Pepper asked.
"I think it went well," Skye said.
"Did you get the results of your science test a couple of weeks ago?" Steve asked.
"I did. I did fine," Skye said.
"What qualifies as fine?" Steve asked.
"Seventy-three percent," Skye said.
"Okay," Steve said.
"No drama today?" Pepper asked.
"No, thankfully the last couple of days have been calm. I just hope the rest of the year is the same," Skye said.
Both adults nodded in agreement.
Skye left the kitchen and went back to her room. She flopped on her bed and started scrolling through social media.
