A/N: Lorelei and Adalind react to the special package Meisner dropped off.
*Lorelei's POV*
Swallowing hard, Lorelei continued to stare at the small child Meisner was holding. "Is..Is that…?" Words were evading her.
Meisner nodded, looking at the sleeping child in his arms. "Yes. It's Diana."
Shaking herself a little, Lorelei led him towards the living room. "How did you get her?" Lorelei asked, as Meisner gently laid Diana down on the couch. "I thought they got away on a helicopter or something."
Meisner turned to Lorelei, a slight smile on his face. "I happen to be one of the copilots of said helicopter." He informed her. "Needless to say, Diana is out of the Royals hands again."
"Not that I am not happy she is here, but surely the Royals are going to come looking for her. Wouldn't it be safer for her to somewhere else?"
"The King is dead; Viktor is in charge now and he made a deal with the Resistance." Meisner explained.
Lorelei looked at him suspiciously. "And the Resistance thinks the best place for her is here?"
"Not necessarily. I made a call. Something is coming. Something big. Diana should be with her family; it is the best place for her."
"So, what? You've gone rogue?"
Meisner shrugged. "I have my reasons. I would suggest that for the time being, you keep Diana hidden, out of public view. The less people who know she is here, the better. I'm sure I can trust that you understand what is at stake."
Lorelei nodded. "Of course."
"I should take my leave. Diana will be safe with you." Meisner told her as he started to head for the door. Lorelei followed him.
"What did you mean? Something is coming?"
Meisner paused, looking back at her. "I can't tell you much. A wesen organisation called Black Claw is gaining power. They seek a world where wesen do not have to hide and will do anything, including kill, to achieve their dream." He sighed. "It is believed they have infiltrated many organisations and levels of government worldwide. Including the Resistance. I am working with a group that opposes them."
"Is that why you didn't want Diana in the hands of the Resistance?" Lorelei asked him, surprised he was sharing as much information as he had.
Meisner nodded. "I have no doubt Black Claw would be another party wishing to get their hands on Diana. She would be incredibly useful to their cause. Be vigilant Lorelei. Be careful who you trust."
"Ok." Lorelei said slowly.
Meisner considered her for a moment. "The organisation I am working with would benefit greatly from a Grimm such as yourself within their ranks. I've heard good things about you."
Lorelei shifted uncomfortably. "I'm not sure I can be joining any clandestine groups at the moment." She told him, unable to stop her hand from coming to rest on her still flat stomach.
A look of recognition crossed Meisner's face, and he nodded understandingly. "Perhaps you are right. Congratulations."
"Thanks." She said as he turned and continued towards the door.
Before opening he paused and turned back to look at her. "My condolences, for the passing of your mother." He said, before opening the door and slipping out.
Lorelei let out a breath before locking the door and heading back towards the living area. As she approached it, she saw Diana had awoken and was sitting up, rubbing her eyes as her gaze came to rest on Lorelei. Lorelei smiled at her. "Hi Diana." She said gently, crouching down in front of her. "You probably don't remember me, but I knew you when you were a baby."
"Mama Lorelei." Diana said, a smile crossing her face before she threw herself into Lorelei's arms.
Lorelei was shocked. It seemed that not only did she remember her, but she had also designated a special name to her. Lorelei held her tightly, so relieved that she was safe and well. Although she knew she should call Sean, all Lorelei could think about was getting Diana to Adalind. The poor woman thought her daughter was off with the Royals. But she was here.
Lorelei pulled back, gently stroking Diana's hair. "How about we go see Mommy?"
*Adalind's POV*
Adalind hadn't really been able to sleep. Although it seemed that the threat of Juliette was no longer an issue, at least for now, all Adalind could think about was about what would happen now. What was Nick going to do with her? Was she going to live with him? What would happen when their son was born? She had been told no one would take him from her, but she couldn't help but wonder if that was true. And then Diana. Was she lost to her? She had been so close, but then that bitch Juliette had lured Kelly into town, helped kill her, and then stolen her daughter.
Adalind came out into the living room to find Bud speaking on the phone, Olivia resting on his hip. Had Lorelei returned? Surely she wouldn't stay away from her baby for too long. As Bud hung up the phone, he noticed Adalind. "Oh, uh, morning. Um, how are you?"
Adalind shrugged, rubbing her lower back. She'd been experiencing pain all night. "Lorelei still not back yet?"
Bud shook his head. "No, but she just called. She's on her way back. Pulling into the street now." Bud informed her as he returned the phone. "Told me to be ready to open the door and let her in."
Adalind glanced at the clock on the wall, it was close to nine. Lorelei had been gone all night. Adalind hoped she was ok. There had been a lot going on lately. Bud peered out the window. "Oh, that's her." He said, rushing over to the door.
Adalind eased herself down onto the couch, needing to sit. She should probably eat something. But she didn't have much of an appetite. Adalind heard Bud open the door and greet Lorelei. "Close the door." Lorelei told Bud.
"What's going on? Who's the kid?"
Adalind looked up. Lorelei was standing in the entry way, glancing out as though seeing if she were followed. Adalind's gaze however was drawn to the child in her arms. A child that didn't appear to be any older than four. A child with blond hair and blue eyes. Adalind felt a tug in her chest. No, it couldn't be. Diana wasn't much older than Olivia. But she knew. That was her baby. Her Diana.
"Lorelei." Adalind breathed, as the younger woman came to stand in front of her, setting the little girl on the floor in front of her. Crouching down beside her.
"Diana, this is Mommy."
Adalind covered her mouth as she felt a sob erupted from her. "Mommy." Diana said, almost diving into her arms. Adalind slowly wrapped her arms around her daughter and looked up at Lorelei.
"How?" It was all she could get out.
Lorelei took Olivia from Bud and came to sit beside Adalind. "I went home this morning. I wanted to be alone. And just after I arrived. Meisner. The guy who got you two out of Vienna, he showed up at the door with her."
Bud spoke up then. "Woah, woah. Hold on. So, that's Diana. I thought the Royals had her? How'd this Meisner guy get her? And, and I thought she was the same age as Livy. But…But she looks, I don't know, three, maybe, four years old."
Lorelei looked at the eisbiber. "Slow down Bud." She said before looking back at Adalind. "I'm not sure of the whole story, but Meisner was one of the pilots on the helicopter. The King is dead. Viktor made some kind of deal with the Resistance, but Meisner decided the best place for Diana was with her family."
Adalind held Diana close. Meisner was right. Diana belonged with her family. It was the best place for her. Adalind didn't know what the future held, but as long as she had Diana. All was well. "Why are you crying Mommy?" Diana asked her.
Adalind brushed away the tears she hadn't realised were falling. "I'm crying because I am so happy to see you." Adalind told her. "I've missed you so much."
"I missed you." Diana told her. Her blue eyes fell on Adalind's pregnant belly, and she placed her hand on it. "Baby brother?"
Sniffling, Adalind nodded, her hand coming to rest over her daughters. "Yeah. Your baby brother is in there."
"On the way over I was telling her that she was going to meet her little sister and that she would be getting a baby brother soon." Lorelei explained and Adalind nodded.
Diana's gaze turned to Olivia, and she pointed to her. "Livy?"
Adalind smiled. "Yeah, that's your little sister. That's Olivia."
Diana smiled and waved. "Hi Livy."
Lorelei laughed, looking down at her own daughter. "Livy, this is your big sister. This is Diana."
A large smile crossed Olivia's face as she looked at her older sister. It was heartwarming to see them taken with each other so quickly. Adalind looked at Lorelei. "Did you tell Sean?"
Lorelei shook her head. "Not yet. All I could think about was getting her over here. To you. She needs her mother. Especially because she just lost the only caregiver she knew." A shadow crossed Lorelei's face. Diana's caregiver had been Kelly, Lorelei's mother. "She was asking about her. I didn't know what to say."
Adalind nodded. She really hoped Kenneth had at least taken Diana out of the room when they…killed Kelly. It would have been so traumatic for her to see that. Adalind looked down at Diana. "Are you hungry?" Diana nodded.
"How about I make us all some breakfast?" Bud suggested. He looked at Diana. "Do you like pancakes Diana?"
Diana nodded eagerly. "Oh, Diana, this is Bud." Adalind said quickly, realising they hadn't done any introductions. "Mommy has been staying with him."
Bud smiled at Diana, although he was clearly a little confused and not sure how to take her appearance. "It's nice to meet you, Diana. I'll go make those pancakes."
Bud turned around, pausing when Lorelei called out to him. "Bud. You can't tell anyone she's here."
Bud nodded. "Yeah. I thought so. Uh, I'll get started on breakfast." He said before hurrying off.
*Lorelei's POV*
Lorelei smiled as she watched Adalind hold her daughter close. Thank God for Meisner going rogue. She wasn't sure how things were going to work out. What were Nick's plans for Adalind and the baby? Was he going to move them in with him? His house only had two rooms. The baby would need his own room as he grew, as would Diana. Diana, would, of course, have a place in her and Sean's home. But her primary home would have to be with her mother.
Adalind looked at Lorelei, her face shining with happiness. "Thank you for bringing her to me. I really needed this."
Lorelei returned her smile. "I know." She glanced down at Diana. "You know, she recognised me. Diana." Adalind raised an eyebrow. "She called me Mama Lorelei."
Although Adalind looked surprised, a look of recognition crossed her face. "I referred to you as that. You were sleeping and she had woken up. I told her she needed to stop crying or else she'll wake up Mama Lorelei. And that Mama Lorelei needed her rest because she was growing her little sister. I can't believe she remembers that."
Lorelei felt touched that even back then, Adalind considered her worthy of such a title. "Well, she is special. I still can't believe how big she has gotten in such a short period of time."
"I know." Adalind said, gently running her hand down Diana's hair. "I wonder if she'll keep aging quickly. And if so, when will it stop."
Lorelei shrugged. "Maybe it's like…a survival mechanism. She may stop aging rapidly now that she is going to be with her parents. Or maybe when she's a little bigger and can protect herself." Lorelei suggested. "I suppose we won't really know, until it happens.
Eventually Bud let them know that breakfast was ready. They moved into the dining room. Olivia had fallen asleep, so Lorelei moved her into the room they had been staying in before joining the others. Diana was set up in a chair beside Adalind, who seemed unable to take her eyes off her. Lorelei couldn't blame her. Diana had been a newborn when she was taken. They were finally reunited, however so much had been missed. Diana was now walking and talking. In under 10 months she had aged around four years.
Bud came in, carrying a tray containing plates of pancakes. "I'm a little low on maple syrup, but I got plenty of raspberry jam…" He told them as he set the plates out in front of them. "…which, you know, a lot of people prefer. I'm not one of them."
"Anything is fine, thank you Bud." Adalind said, offering the eisbiber a smile.
Bud nodded, turning his gaze to Lorelei. "How are you doing? With everything? Have you spoken to Nick?"
Lorelei glanced down, shaking her head. "Not yet. I should probably check in on him. There was a lot of loss last night. I hope he's doing ok." She said, avoiding mentioning anything about how she was feeling. She couldn't afford to breakdown right now. She didn't have the luxury of being selfish. There were so many people who needed her.
Adalind was helping Diana load up her pancakes with butter and the jam, as Bud returned to the kitchen and came back out with some juice before joining them at the table. They all started eating, and Bud was talking, trying to fill the silence. Lorelei noticed that Adalind had stopped eating, a strange look crossing her face. "Bud." Lorelei said, cutting the eisbiber off.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'm going on and on."
Lorelei looked back at Adalind. "Are you alright?"
Adalind looked up at her. "The baby." She said slowly.
Bud stood up quickly. "What about the baby?" He asked, looking concerned.
Adalind shifted slightly. "It feels a little uncomfortable." She admitted.
"Like what?" Lorelei asked, also standing up.
"Like he's starting to…"
"He's starting to –."
"Oh my god." Adalind said, still looking down. She suddenly stood up. "Oh my god. He's coming."
Bud started panicking. "I got to call Nick!" He said, starting to move towards the phone.
"No. You're not calling anybody. You're getting me to the hospital." Adalind told him, hunch over slightly. "Get the car."
"Ok." Bud said nodding; however he didn't move.
"Now Bud!" The women shouted at him.
That got him moving. "All right, ok. Get the car!" He said rushing off.
Adalind looked at Lorelei. "You'll watch Diana?" She confirmed.
Lorelei nodded. "Of course. We'll finish breakfast and I'll take her back to mine and Sean's. She can stay there tonight."
Diana had been upset to see Adalind go, but Lorelei assured her Mommy was just going to the hospital because her baby brother was going to be there soon. She encouraged the young girl to finish her pancakes. Once they finished up, Lorelei packed her and Olivia up and returned home. On the way, she received a call from Hank. Apparently, Nick was going off the deep end. He claimed Juliette had been over last night. That Trubel had killed her and then a group of people broke in, knocked him out, took both Trubel and Juliette, and then cleaned up any evidence of what had happened. Nick seemed to believe an FBI agent who was allegedly part of some secret group was responsible. He'd already visited her at her office, which led to Sean warning Nick to stay away from the agent and forcing him to have personal leave.
When Lorelei was told the agent's name, Chavez, Lorelei informed Hank there may be some truth to the story. Trubel had told Lorelei about her encounter with the FBI agent, being kidnapped and then watched by some mysterious people. It was part of the reason she had left town with Josh. To get away. Hank was working with Wu, Monroe and Rosalee to track Nick down and find out more information about Chavez. Hank promised to keep Lorelei updated on the situation. Hopefully Bud was able to contact Nick and distract him with the news of his son's eminent arrival.
When Lorelei arrived home, both kids had fallen asleep. Olivia was placed in her room, while Lorelei decided to let Diana on the couch, in case she woke up and was scared. Lorelei sat at the dining room table, laptop out. She needed to get some clothes for Diana. Maybe some stuff to make the room she had in mind for her more suitable for a little girl. Not to mention a car seat for her. It wasn't safe for her not to have one.
While the girls slept, Lorelei called Sean. She didn't feel comfortable telling him such big news over the phone, but wanted to get an idea of when he might be home. He'd updated her on what had been done regarding the murders he had committed while possessed. Nick had killed Kenneth, and they decided the pin the blame on him. The case was basically wrapped up. At least she didn't have to worry about her husband going to jail.
Eventually the girls woke up, and Lorelei brought Olivia downstairs. She fed them lunch and the rest of the afternoon was spent in the living area. Lorelei had the tv on, kids shows playing in the background. She'd pulled out some paper and coloured pencils for Diana. Diana seemed to be very comfortable. Her and Olivia were bonding well. Diana was very patient with Olivia. Diana also loved the pets, who had taken to her as easily as they had Olivia. It tugged at Lorelei's heart how easily Diana fit in. Diana kept asking when her little brother was going to be here, when she could see Mommy again, where was her Daddy, and where was Grandma Kelly. Adalind had explained that Grandma Kelly had gone away and wouldn't be able to come back. Neither of them knew how to explain death to a young child.
Day turned to night. Lorelei still hadn't heard from anybody. Not about Nick or Adalind. She got the girls fed and bathed, and eventually into bed. Diana was set up in the room besides Olivia's. Lorelei had shown her where the bathroom was and where Lorelei and her Daddy slept. As she settling down in the living room again, she got a call from Rosalee. Nick was ok, although he had kidnapped Chavez and brought her to the spice shop, to question her about Juliette and Trubel. Chavez had agreed to give Nick answers and the two had gone off. Rosalee was currently at the hospital. Adalind had been rushed in for an emergency c-section, however she was fine and so was the baby. Rosalee promised to provide her some information when she knew.
Lorelei was relieved to know that Adalind and the baby were alright. She was concerned that her brother had kidnapped an FBI agent and gone off somewhere with her. Hopefully, nothing untoward would happen to him. Sean had called to apologise; he was still working and wouldn't be home until later. Lorelei hoped it wouldn't be too late. She was exhausted, but she needed to tell Sean about Diana. It would be a big surprise for him when he got home.
