Title: The Greengrass Vignettes

Author: Captain Cranium

Summary: A series of slice-of-life vignettes from the lives of Harry Potter and Daphne Greengrass.

"Potter."

The young wizard looked up at her, his eyes a dull green.

"What is it, Greengrass?" he asked.

He was sitting by himself in a corner, looking particularly good in his bottle-green dress robes. Granger was dancing the night away with Krum - much to Malfoy's consternation and Daphne's subsequent delight - and the Weasel had just stepped away from where he had been sulking with Potter.

She took a deep breath.

"Would you like to dance?" she asked, holding her hand out.

He blinked and looked around.

"With me?" he asked stupidly, as if there was anyone else near them. Her hand faltered but she kept it there. "I mean to say, why me? You could dance with anyone you like."

She blushed at the honesty in his voice. He genuinely believed that.

"Ah well, you see..." She cleared her throat and leaned conspiratorially towards him, gesturing to where Parkinson had Malfoy pushed up against a wall and was yelling heatedly at him. "Malfoy decided he wanted to, ah, to honour me with a dance. And I'd rather..."

Understanding dawned across him and a mischievous smile played on his lips. Malfoy had, of course, done no such thing - but Potter didn't need to know that.

"Say no more," he said, his green eyes sparkling. "I understand."

He took Daphne's proffered hand and, with a tingle running down her back, she led him to the dance floor to start what would become one of the best nights of her life.

AN: Not all vignettes will be in the same world - so for example, you could see multiple different ways the Yule Ball could go. All vignettes will be short and sweet dopamine hits, so if that's your jam, give this a follow. The story will be marked as complete since it's, by definition, always complete.
