Takes place shortly after Warmind.

Commander Zavala read over the mission report one final time. Once satisfied, he looked up at the Hunter in front of him. "Good work, Wolf," he said. "You're dismissed. Get some rest. We may need you again soon."

The Guardian tried not to let his newfound confusion show on his face as he gave the commander a salute before walking out the door, his Ghost right behind him. Once they were out of earshot, Ghost spoke up. "I, for one, am looking forward to being back at our quarters where it's one hundred percent frozen Hive free. It's really coming together, isn't it? Especially with those paintings you've added and ... hey, are you even listening?"

The Guardian nodded absently.

Ghost's shell segments dipped slightly in a frown. "Something wrong?"

The Guardian looked up at Ghost. "Can I ask you something?"

"You just did."

The Guardian snorted at the response but asked anyway. "Why is everyone calling me Wolf?"

"I mean," Ghost began, "Lord Saladin calls you Young Wolf. Literally everyone knows you by that name. It makes sense that they'd shorten it to Wolf and use that since you absolutely refuse to name yourself."

"I haven't either! I just … never felt an overwhelming need to think of one, is all."

"Yet you keep trying to convince me to name myself."

"Still not too late." The Guardian gave his Ghost a mischevious grin.

"Still prefer Ghost."

"Okay, fiiiiiine."

Ghost chuckled. "Hey, if Wolf bothers you that much you can always ask people not to call you that, but for what it's worth, I think it fits."

"You do?"

"Absolutely! You have that lone wolf energy first of all. Second, you're absolutely ferocious, you're loyal, and let's face it you ... kind of have the demeanor of a puppy."

"Yeah, well…" The Guardian's voice trailed off as he realized what was said and practically squawks in protest. "Hey! I do not!"

"Do too!"

"Lies and slander."

"I heard denial was a river once." Ghost emoted a smile. "Anyway, the name suits you, Wolf."

The Guardian tilted his head to one side, considering it for a moment. Then, his smile returned. "Actually, you know what?"

"What?"

"I think you might be right. When you call me that … I dunno, it feels right."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah."

Ghost gently nudged the side of his Guardian's head. "Well then, it's settled, Wolfie."

The Guardian, now Wolf, snorted in amusement. "Don't push it, Little Light."

"Hey!"

For the record, the name Wolf was used for this guy starting shortly after Rise of Iron when Saladin started calling him Young Wolf. It just took a bit before the name really started to stick. Wolf probably wouldn't have given himself a name otherwise lol. He never does anything for himself.
