Disclaimer: I do not own Detective Conan/Case Closed.

Pairing: KaitoxShinichi

Rating: M

Genre: Romance/Hurt/Comfort

Warning: Contains smut

Summary: Shinichi accompanies Kaito on his first visit to the Blue Parrot since Jii's passing. It is a statement to themselves that they are done waiting for "one day".

Notes: This is set in the same universe as "Guilty Secrets", "Whisper" and "Change". It's set after "Change", but it can be read alone. Also, the Blue Parrot's interior is based off what I remember from the episodes where Kogoro was there.

Statement

The Blue Parrot looked both utterly, achingly familiar and disturbingly alien all at once.

Standing on the sidewalk in front of the bar, Kaito spent a moment staring up at that oh so familiar sign before letting his gaze drop to the equally familiar door.

Over the years, he had walked through that door more times than he could count. Yet standing here now, today, it felt different.

Because he knew that Jii, the old man who had been his father's trusted assistant then his own and who had always been like a surrogate grandfather to him, wouldn't be beyond it, waiting to welcome him in. Indeed, the old man would never be there again.

He didn't realize just how long he'd been standing there, staring, until a presence stepped up beside him and took his hand. He glanced to his side to meet a pair of large, worried blue eyes.

"We can come back another day if you'd prefer," Shinichi said softly.

Kaito took a moment to really think about the suggestion before shaking his head. "No. I've put this off long enough already."

Then, because Shinichi still looked worried (and perhaps also because he needed the comfort), Kaito used their linked hands to tug Shinichi closer. He dipped his head just in time to cover the detective's startled gasp with his lips.

The kiss was short and sweet and exactly what he needed. The adorable blush dusting Shinichi's face when he pulled away helped too.

Because he wasn't here alone.

"Let's go," he said then stole another quick peck because he could.

Inside, the pool bar was still and dark and just a little bit dusty. The place had been closed as arrangements were made for the business to be passed to its new owner. Jii and willed the entire establishment to Kaito, but there was also a scattering of items and knickknacks that had been designated for friends and regulars that had to be dealt with. A full inventory had had to be taken, and there had been quite a bit of paperwork too.

Now though, all the Is had been dotted and Ts crossed, and the place and everything left in it were officially Kaito's. He'd been given the keys, deed and other information by the lawyers only three days ago.

Shinichi stood quietly beside Kaito, offering what support he could as the magician surveyed the space, drinking in the details—seeing and feeling the ways the place had changed and the ways in which it was the same.

Shinichi too took a moment take in the Blue Parrot. He had been here before as Conan, but, at the time, he'd been preoccupied with a case. He also hadn't known its significance to Kaito. Now that he was here not only as himself but with the magician in question—the man he had come to love, the place felt entirely different.

Tall shelves lined with bottles stood behind the bar and along some of the walls. Those walls not occupied by shelves or windows were hung with paintings of all sizes and shapes. Most had a kind of classical feel to them. A row of round stools stood before the bar counter. Simple tables and chairs were arranged neatly before the bar. On the other side of the room stood the pool tables. All of it was neatly arranged in the manner of a place that had not recently been in use. And yet there was still a lingering warmth to it, Shinichi thought. The place felt like one that had been loved.

"So what do you think?" Kaito asked suddenly, making Shinichi jump.

The detective glanced up at him then around the pool hall again.

"It feels comfortable," he said after a moment's consideration. "I like the art. Although it may be a little on the old-fashioned side. I don't know what kind of clientele you're after though, so I don't know if that's a problem."

"Good point." Kaito frowned thoughtfully. "Jii-chan had some regulars, but I know at least a few of them came to talk to him. I…don't know if they'll be back now that he's gone."

Hearing the melancholy note return to Kaito's voice, Shinichi hurried to move the conversation on.

"We can do some market research and come up with a few plans," he offered. "See what ends up feeling right."

Kaito blinked then smiled. He liked the sound of that 'we'.

"Yeah, let's do that," he said. He gave the empty bar another long look over. He started to speak but then quieted and simply shook his head. "Well, we can think about that later. We should finish our tour first."

Shinichi wanted to ask Kaito what he had been about to say, but he knew that now wasn't the time.

"I take it the rest is more than just storage?" he asked instead.

"There's an apartment upstairs," Kaito explained as he led the way through the door at the back of the bar, past the storage room, janitorial closet and manager's office and up a narrow flight of stairs. "Jii-chan used part of it as a study and the rest as a workshop for, ah, his other job."

"You mean KID assistant-related work," Shinichi surmised.

Kaito flashed a grin over his shoulder at him. "Bingo. We worked on a lot of gadget designs here. Some of it was for my night job, but we also did a lot of work on stuff for my professional career."

The stairs ended at a small landing with an equally small window and a single door. Kaito produced a key, and the door opened on silent hinges.

The apartment beyond had the same quiet, artistic atmosphere as the bar downstairs. The kitchen and dining area were by the front door. Further in was a comfortable sitting area complete with a television and what Shinichi suspected was a sofa bed. An elegant work station had been tucked into one corner of the living area.

Kaito produced two pairs of slippers from the shoe cabinet situated by the door with the automatic efficiency of someone who had done this hundreds of times before.

The master bedroom had been lined with bookshelves packed with reference books of all kinds as well as assorted boxes whose contents were printed on little labels. Where there were no shelves, there were cabinets and chests, many of which boasted locks that strongly suggested that their contents were either dangerous or valuable or both. A sizeable worktable stood in the middle of the room. At the moment, everything was neatly put away, but Shinichi could easily picture Kaito and Jii working at that table surrounded by blueprints and tools.

The way Kaito was gazing into the room, indigo eyes distant, made Shinichi think that the magician was seeing that too.

Eventually though, the magician shook his head and took Shinichi's hand again. "Come on. There's one last room."

The second bedroom was every bit as large as the master bedroom, but it was considerably emptier. The entire floor was covered with plush gymnastics mats. One entire wall and half an adjacent one was entirely paneled with mirrors. The corner opposite housed a workout station.

"A home gym?" Shinichi asked, surprised. "I wasn't expecting that."

Kaito laughed, mood brightening considerably. "He put it in for me. Phantom thieves need to stay in shape." He winked. "I also needed somewhere to practice how to move freely in full KID gear without getting tangled up in my own cape or constantly losing my hat."

Shinichi had to smile at that. "I can see how tripping over your own cape would have ruined your mysterious gentleman thief image."

"It certainly wouldn't have helped me make the impression I was aiming for."

Ditching his slippers, Kaito stepped out onto the gymnastics mats on sock-clad feet and performed a perfect handspring. Then he held a hand out to Shinichi, silently beckoning the smaller boy to join him on the plush, slightly bouncy mats.

Shinichi hesitated only a little before accepting the hand and letting Kaito pull him into a quick and disjointed little jig that ended with them laughing and leaning together. Nothing about the situation was really that funny if at all, but that wasn't the point. Standing there, arms wrapped loosely about each other and laughing so hard that tears were leaking from the corners of their eyes, they both realized that they had needed this.

They had needed to allow themselves to let go. To laugh. And to still be here.

"This is our place now," Kaito said, breaths ruffling the hair on top of Shinichi's head.

"It's your place," Shinichi corrected him gently. "Jii-chan left it to you. It's his gift to you and his well wishes."

"I know," Kaito murmured, arms only tightening in their hold around Shinichi's slim, supple frame. "But I want to make it ours. I want this to be a space we share."

Touched, Shinichi felt a lump rise in his throat. With it came a swell of emotions: of hope and happiness, of yearning and nervousness and more. But under it all was resolve.

He opened his mouth then closed it, trying to find the words to express all that he felt in that moment. But he couldn't. Words were simply inadequate.

So Shinichi slid his arms around his gentleman thief's neck and rose onto his tiptoes so that he could bring their lips together in a heartfelt kiss. It was a promise and a pledge to unveil this future they dreamed of together so that it would be a mere dream no longer.

Kaito was quick to respond, pulling his detective closer. Their lips slid together and tongues tangled in a welcome and familiar dance of heat and tingling pleasure.

Shinichi always tasted a little of coffee, and Kaito found himself thinking that he was going to have to add coffee to the Blue Parrot's offerings. Mingling with the coffee flavor, however, was something indefinable and faintly sweet that was uniquely Shinichi. It's a blend that Kaito would freely admit he'd grown addicted to.

Kaito deepened the kiss, chasing that elusive but enticing flavor, and Shinichi shuddered, moaning softly. The magician relished the way Shinichi just about melted against him.

Carefully, Kaito lowered them to the ground so that he was sitting with Shinichi straddling his lap. A hungry little gasp escaped the detective's mouth as he found himself sitting astride the very prominent bulge in Kaito's pants, and he moved instinctively to rub himself against it. The thief made an appreciative noise in the back of his throat as his hands moved to grip Shinichi's buttocks, grinding their hips together. Shinichi stifled another moan in the crook of Kaito's neck.

A smirk tugged at the corners of Kaito's lips as he dipped his head to nibble on Shinichi's ear.

"The first order of business is going to be putting in a bedroom up here," he murmured, breaths warm against the shell of Shinichi's ear. "One with a nice big bed."

Shinichi blushed but murmured back, "I look forward to it."

Indigo eyes gleamed at the response. "How about a preview?"

Shinichi shivered, heart rate picking up and breaths shortening as desire and anticipation sent tendrils of fire curling through his veins. He was acutely aware of the heat radiating from Kaito's body—of Kaito's hands on his backside and Kaito's hips between his thighs. He wished there weren't so many layers of cloth between them.

Shifting, he pressed a kiss to the side of Kaito's neck then leaned up to breathe into his ear. "Please."

Kaito didn't have to be asked twice.

In moments, he had Shinichi on his back, pants and undergarments tossed carelessly off to the side where they couldn't get in his way.

He had his smaller lover pinned to the bouncy gymnastics mats, squirming in his grip as Kaito nuzzled his face against Shinichi's soft, sensitive stomach, licking and nipping and tasting while his hands fondled Shinichi's bare thighs and backside.

Then the magician's strong hands were gripping the undersides of Shinichi's thighs, spreading them wide, and his mouth was on Shinichi's arousal. The detective let out a squeak and clamped his hands over his own mouth. Delighted lips curving into a wicked grin, Kaito ran his tongue up Shinichi's length then took it in his mouth and sucked as though it were a tasty treat.

Shinichi gasped. That devilish mouth was merciless, and Shinichi bucked and writhed helplessly against the magician's iron grip. Then his back arched, and he came with a cry that the hands over his mouth could do very little to stifle.

Kaito sat back with a cat-got-the-canary smirk, indigo eyes glittering with wicked delight and a predatory hunger that sent shivers up Shinichi's spine.

Catching his gaze, Kaito leaned over, tugged Shinichi's hands away from his mouth, pinned them to the mat then captured his lips in a deep, languid kiss that sent tingles of pleasure all the way to the tips of the detective's fingers and toes.

"Kai," Shinichi gasped against the thief's lips, squirming against the unyielding body on top of him.

Kaito chuckled, the sound so low that it was more a vibration through their bodies than an actual sound. He knew what his little Shin-chan wanted, and the knowledge thrilled him. Certain parts of his anatomy throbbed in response.

He released Shinichi's hands so he could retrieve the bottle of lube he'd stashed in one of his numerous hidden pockets.

Shinichi took the opportunity to fist one hand in the front of Kaito's shirt and yank him back down into another heated kiss. His other hand tangled itself in the thief's mess of dark hair.

Kaito made a noise that was half groan, half growl and shoved two long, lubed fingers into Shinichi's tight little hole. He smirked when Shinichi's inner muscles stuttered and clenched around his fingers, eager for more. Kaito obliged, inserting a third finger and beginning to thrust and scissor. He could feel his detective's eagerness in the way he instinctively shifted his hips to help push the thief's fingers in deeper, and that eagerness went straight to Kaito's own straining cock. He wanted nothing more than to pin Shinichi down and ravish him—to bury himself in his detective's deliciously tight heat and make him beg for more.

The thought sent another spike of arousal through his veins. Unable to wait any longer, Kaito slid his fingers out of his panting lover and hastened to free his own erection.

Shinichi let out a breathless little whimper between short, shallow pants, and his fingernails dug into Kaito's shoulder blades through the fabric of his shirt as the thief thrust slowly into him, thick and hot.

Kaito stilled once he was fully sheathed inside his panting lover. He drank in the blush staining his detective's cheeks and savored the way Shinichi felt wrapped tight around him. Needing to distract himself while he gave his lover time to adjust to the penetration, he latched his mouth onto a spot on the juncture between Shinichi's neck and shoulder and set to work leaving his mark on that soft, creamy skin.

Breathless little moans forced themselves from Shinichi's lips as that hot mouth on his throat and the calloused hands on his body and that large cock sheathed inside him all vied for his attention. His nerves thrummed everywhere that Kaito was touching him, and it was wonderful and not enough and he really, really needed the magician to move.

Not quite able to form coherent words, Shinichi wiggled his hips as best he could, inner muscles flexing around his lover's hot, hard length in a silent plea.

Kaito was all too willing to answer.

It didn't matter how many times they made love, Kaito thought, he just couldn't seem to get enough of Shinichi—of the flavor of his kisses and the taste of his skin, of the feel of his Shinichi's slim, supple body writhing under him in helpless ecstasy, of the sound of his pleasured cries as Kaito thrust deep inside him again and again and again.

And there was just something about the fact that they were doing this now, in the middle of the day in an apartment they're planning to share, that made the pleasure of their coupling all the more intense.

Mine, Kaito thought, and he knew that it was more true now than it had ever been before.

That thought and the sound of his real name on Shinichi's lips finally sent Kaito over the edge despite his best efforts to hold on. The sensation of his thief coming inside him soon had Shinichi following suit.

Shinichi whimpered when Kaito slid out of him, already missing the fullness. He couldn't help but want Kaito to fill him again. Embarrassed at his own thoughts, Shinichi curled into Kaito's side and tucked his head under the magician's chin so he could hide his blush in the crook of the magician's neck.

Kaito wound one arm around his lover's slim frame while his other hand slid up under the back of Shinichi's shirt to rub soothing circles on his lower back. Shinichi let out a contented little sigh, and Kaito thought with fond amusement that he wouldn't have been surprised if the detective started purring.

He also made a mental note to double check that the apartment's soundproofing was exceptional. With the plans he had, they were going to need it.

The silence was warm and comfortable.

"When we start planning, I think I'd like to keep some of it the same," Kaito said eventually, picking up their earlier discussion like they had never left off. "But I'd like to make changes too. I want to remember Jii-chan—honor his memory and all that. But I want this place to reflect us too—especially up here. I think he'd like that."

"I like it too," Shinichi said softly.

Kaito smiled and kissed him again. Shinichi let out a happy hum. One kiss became two then three.

The kisses grew rapidly more heated. It wasn't long before the air filled once more with soft gasps and breathless moans.

Neither of them was in a hurry to leave.

This was the start of the next chapter of their lives. The true start of their story. Everything that had come before had just been the prologue bringing them to this point and this new beginning of a life that would no doubt be full of unexpected problems, nosy friends, crimes of every persuasion, and too little time. But it was going to be a great adventure because it would be one they shared.

-End-

Note: I didn't originally plan for these one-shots to turn into an entire series, but for some reason this universe keeps popping ideas into my head. Happy holidays!
