Disclaimer: I do not own Sofia The First
A/N: Here's a little something for the ten year anniversary of 'Winter's Gift'. My favorite Sofia The First Wassailia special :).
Cedric wiped his brow. The bubbling potions making his workshop much warmer than it'd usually be this time of year.
His ears caught the sound of distant laughter, and he smiled. He'd be lying if he said he hadn't taken more than a few breaks to observe his favorite princess from the window. Watching with fondness as she built snow men, made snow angels, and enjoyed the other winter activities she had in her childhood.
Curious again, especially as he now heard a second voice, he decided to check on her once more. This time seeing her engaged in a snow ball fight with her brother.
She had been out there for a while... she was probably getting cold...
A thought coming to him, he put the potions in stasis, and hurried out the door.
"Ow! Ow! Alright, Sofia I give up! Uncle! Uncle!" James cried out between onslaughts of snow balls.
"You mean it, this time!" she asked with playful suspicion, arms full of frosty ammo. Still a little miffed from when he tricked her earlier.
"Yeah, Knights honor," placing his hand over his heart.
Laughing she relinquished her weapons, before noticing a familiar figure coming towards them. Carrying a steaming mug in each hand.
"Cedric!"
"I thought you could do with a cup of Hot Cocoa a la Cedric," he grinned.
"Ooh! Thank you," taking it from him and admiring the mingled scent of chocolate and cinnamon.
"Yeah, thanks!" James added, reaching for the other. "Wow, those are some big marshmallows."
Cedric pulled back slightly, "Oh, um..." he'd actually intended the second mug for himself...
Catching on, Sofia said "Hey James, I heard Chef Andre was trying out a new cookie recipe today."
Finding cookies more desirable than cocoa, the prince ran off to the kitchens. Leaving Cedric standing with the other mug still in hand.
"You really should bring an extra one out for him next time," she admonished.
Cedric scoffed, "He has plenty of other servants he can get cocoa from."
"Aww! But you brought some to me," Batting her eyelids playfully
"Yes, well," a wry smile on his face. "You're special."
She laughed, sipping her beverage and humming in delight as the warmth spread through her, "It's perfect!"
Pleased with her assessment, he took a drink himself.
"Oh!"
Startled, he spluttered, coughing "Wh..What is it?!"
"Look!" pointing at the tree above them. Where a luminescent purple flower could be seen on one of the branches.
"An ice lily?" watching as she reached up to pluck it. "I haven't seen any growing here at the castle for years."
"Happy early Wassailia!" she grinned, handing it to him.
He smiled, "Thanks," nestling it in the front of his robes. "A magical flower. Surprised you haven't gotten me that before."
"I actually was going to one year."
He raised an eyebrow, "You were?"
"Mmm hmm, it was my second Wassailia here at the castle. I wanted to find you a special gift, and I thought magic flowers would be perfect. But after getting some advice, I realized the wand case I'd already made you would be just fine."
"It was more than fine!" he amended, still preferring it as the home for his beloved family wand. "I'd never received such a wonderful gift before then."
"Well," blushing slightly at his praise. "I hope you like my gift this year too,"
He regarded her fondly, "I'm sure I will." Taking another sip of cocoa.
Wassailia came, and Cedric did indeed love Sofia's gift, some magic crystals from the mystic isles; and in addition to the usual display of magic snow she loved, he also adorned the tree in ice lilies.
Of course, she still beat him in the gift giving department with a surprise kiss under the mistletoe. But he wasn't complaining.
A/N: Hope you enjoyed, and Happy Holidays!
