As Hermione Granger walked down the hall as she was starting to head to the Gryffindor common room, she felt a hand reach out and grab the back of her robes.
She was turned around by this person and she found herself looking into the grey-bluish eyes of Slytherin's very own, Draco Malfoy.
He grinned at her. "Hey, Granger. Have you seen Pansy or Blaise around lately? Or perhaps even Goyle or Crabbe?" He asked. "I can't seem to find any of the Slytherins."
She gave him a tiresome look. "Are you seriously asking me this, Malfoy? Why would I see your friends? Maybe they're just avoiding you? Did you ever think about that?"
He momentarily glared at her. "Real nice, Granger," He said. "No, but I'm actually serious. I can't find them at all. Could you help me look for them?"
She sighed at this. "And just why should I help you, hmm? Can you give me one good reason why I should?
He continued glaring at her, but sighed. "I'll give something to you. Or do something that you want," He said. "Just help me find them."
"Ok, fine," She agreed as she started to follow beside him. "So, where do you think they might've gone? Do you have any ideas?"
"Hmmn... I'm not really sure. I mean, they could've gone back to their rooms or even the Slytherin common room. But I just came from the common room, so I know for a fact that they're definitely not there."
"Ok, then let's go look somewhere else," She said. "Lead the way, Malfoy."
They walked up to Slytherin Tower. The first dorm they walked to was Blaise's room. "Knock on the door, Granger," Draco said, as he pushed her towards the door.
She shrugged her shoulders as she knocked her fist loudly on the oak stained door. When no one answered, she turned back around. "Guess he's not here. We probably should try Pansy's room next, then Goyle's, and Crabbe's rooms." She said, as they continued walking down the hall.
"Ok, let's go then. Pansy's room is just down the hall from Blaise's, so we won't have to walk very far." He said.
When they got there, Draco reached out and knocked on the door. But just like before, with Blaise's room, Pansy wasn't there either.
"Are you kidding me?! Where could they be at? I've looked everywhere humanly possible!" Draco complained as he groaned into his hands.
"Hey, hey! We'll find them! Remember, we still haven't gone to Crabbe and Goyle's rooms yet. We've still got time." She reassured him.
Ok. Yeah, you're right. Let's keep on moving," He said. "I hope we find them soon. I'm starting to get kind of worried."
"You? Worried? I never thought I'd hear those words come out of your mouth," She teased him.
He laughed and put on a look of mock anger. "How dare you, Granger. I happen to worry about my friends a lot!"
"Ok, ok. I take it back," She put her hands up in mock surrender. "So, you ready to head to Goyle's room next?"
"Yeah, let's go," He said, as they continued walking down the hall. They rounded the corner and found both Goyle's and Crabbe's rooms side by side. "Here. You knock on Goyle's and I'll knock on Crabbe's."
"Ok, sounds good," Hermione agreed, as she walked straight to Goyle's door. She knocked on it, just as Draco knocked on Crabbe's.
When neither of them answered either door, Draco became visibly pissed off. "Oh my god. Are you seriously kidding me? They're not in their rooms either? Where the bloody hell is everyone?" He snapped.
"Do you have anywhere else that they might be?" She asked him.
"Um, not really, no. Perhaps we should just start back where we started at."
Hermione was confused. "You mean, go back to the outside of the Gryffindor common room? Why do you want to go back there?"
"Maybe they'll be close by. We've been searching long enough; maybe one of them will just pop up sooner or later."
She nodded her head as they turned back around came back from where the originally started at. "So, what if they're not there? What will you do then?"
"Hmm. I don't know. I might just give up looking and let them turn up in their own time," He said as he laughed.
"That's fair. I'd probably be going half out of mind right now if I were you." She said.
"I feel like doing that, not gonna lie. It's getting do exhausting. I'm honestly kind of tired of looking for them," He said, as they reached the Gryffindor common room. "You gonna say the password?"
"Wait. Why do you think they're in here?" She questioned him.
"Well, I don't know if you knew this or not, but Pansy has like the hugest crush on Harry, so she loves to spend time with him. Frankly, I don't get it."
"Wait, huh? She likes Harry? As in Harry potter, one of my best friends, Harry?" Hermione was shocked. "But wait, I thought she liked you."
"She did, at one time. But thank god, that ship has sailed. She just wasn't my type. My type is nowhere close to her," He smirked at her.
"Oh, yeah," She grinned back at him. "Then what exactly is your type?" She inquired.
"Well, for one, brown, bushy haired know-it-all muggleborns are more my type than anything else."
She felt herself blush as he said that to her "Oh, really? Is there any reason that sounds so familiar?"
"I don't know, you tell me." He grinned, but quickly covered it up as he turned back to her. "You wanna say the password now?"
"Oh, yeah! I almost forgot! Thanks for reminding me," She said, as she muttered the password to the Fat Lady on the painting door. The door opened with a click, and they stepped into complete and utter darkness.
"It doesn't seem like anyone's here. Let alone your friends," She said, as she reached for the light switch.
As she flipped the light switch, the light flooded the room and a big group of her friends, his friends included, stood around a table full of presents and a cake. "Wha-?" She said, surprised.
"Surprise! Happy birthday!"
She started grinning as she felt a hand touch her shoulder. She turned around smiling, to see Draco grinning at her. "Surprised?" He asked with a smirk on his face.
"Yes! Who planned all this?" She asked. "Harry, Ron, was it you two?"
"Sorry, 'Mione. But we can't take credit for this. It was all Malfoy's idea. He came up with it."
Even more surprised, she turned to Draco, grinning. She gave him a huge hug. "Thank you so much. This was so nice!"
"Don't get used to it," He teased as he hugged her back. "Did you like it? I worked so hard on keeping you away long enough for them to set everything up. I didn't know rather or not you'd go along with trying to help me find my friends, but aren't you glad you did?
"Yes! This was such a nice surprise. I didn't think you were capable of doing something kind and something for someone other than yourself!" She was ecstatic from the surprise. She really hadn't expected it.
"I have my moments. Especially for you, Mione."
He watched as her eyes began to glisten with tears. She squeezed him even tighter. "Was this your way of convincing me that you liked me and thst you were capable of having feelings for me?"
A look of surprise shot across his face. "How did you know that?" He whispered.
"I just had a hunch. And especially when you said that your type was brown, bushy haired know-it-all muggleborns. Well, that was sort of a dead give away."
He grinned. "I knew that would give it away. Why else do you think I said it?" He smirked at her. "I hope you enjoy your 16th birthday, Mione. I sure had fun planning it for you."
"This has been one of the best birthdays I've ever had in my whole life. Being sent on a wild goose chase with the boy I thought I hated, only for him to like me, and he was planning a surprise party for me the entire time? Quite evenful if I do say so myself."
Later, after they ate the cake and everything, they got Hermione to open her presents. She reached for the first one. It was from Pansy.
She pulled the little box out and opened it. It was a custom made quill, with her initials engraved in gold on the side. "Pans, I love it so much. Thank you!"
"You're welcome, Mione," She smiled at her.
Then she opened the next one, which was from Harry and Ron. She pulled out a square little box. When she pulled off the top, she gasped. It was a charm bracelet full of their past memories from the last few years at Hogwarts. "You guys. I love it. Thank you." She saud.
They both smiled at her. "You're welcome."
She opened present after present, until she came to the last one. There was only one last person it could be from and when she checked the tag, it confirmed her ideas. It was from Draco.
As she opened it, she looked up at Draco, who caught her gaze and grinned at her from where he was standing.
She pulled the box out of the wrapping and unwrapped it. The box was quite heavy and as she opened the cardboard box and pulled her present out, she gasped. It was a 6th edition Spells book, full of spells to use. Then at the bottom, was a small box. She opened it and pulled out a golden locket.
When she opened it, it had a picture of the two of them inside from back in their first year. She gasped as she held it to her chest.
He walked closer to her, grinning. "Did you like it?" He asked, as he grabbed the locket from her hand to fasten it around her neck.
"Like it? No, I loved it. You've made this one of the best birthdays of my life. I don't know how you managed to do it, but you got me the book I've been looking at for months."
He smirked ar her. "You think I'd actually know anything about books? No. But I do listen to you, rather you now it or not. Or rather you're saying it to me or someone else, I'm always listening."
"Wait, what? You actually listen to what I say?"
"Yes. I do. Because I actually care about you, Mione. I care about what you care about, but that don't mean I'll read more books."
She laughed. "I'm not gonna force you to read books at all. I know you don't really like to read all that much, so that's my way of showing you I care about you."
His heart began to skip beats as he grinned. "I'm glad I made this birthday one of the best ones you've ever had."
She grinned back at him, as she grabbed his hand, intertwining their fingers together. "Me too. I don't know if my next birthday will be able to top this one."
"As long as we're together, I'll make it better than the last one every year," He said as he kissed her on her cheek, causing the both of them to blush.
