Olivia paces back and forth across the therapist's office.
"Olivia, we are here to talk with you."
"She won't talk. She hasn't spoken a single word for a months," Olivia responded while she continued to pace.
"It is a response, isn't that what the doctor told you in the hospital? She will speak when she is ready, Olivia, and she isn't ready yet, so let's take this time to talk about you."
Olivia thuds down on the couch and looks out the window. "I have told her so many times to stay away from the courtroom, especially at the trials SVU is involved in."
"Olivia, it's not uncommon for children to be interested in what their parents do for work. Your interest sometimes morphs into theirs."
"So, is this my fault?" Olivia asked as she turned to face the therapist.
"That is not what I said. I said she has grown up around you, so it makes sense that she would be curious about your work. This happens to most kids. You yourself said she was raised by the job, and that SVU is her family. Logically, doesn't it make sense that she would gravitate towards those people and what they do? Perhaps she is feeling portrayed by the people she always views as being the heroes, the people who help prevent further bad behavior, but then the bad happened to her."
"When we get involved, the bad has already happened." Olivia replies.
"Yes, but she has never witnessed that. She has always witnessed the aftermath: the arrest, the guilty verdict. It is probably hard for her to connect that with what she just experienced and also watched you experience. Is she going to therapy?"
Olivia turns her head up, "Of course she is, but she sits there and says nothing. How is saying nothing going to help her?"
"Olivia, I cannot say. I am here to help you, and I realize that helping your daughter would help you, but she is on her own timeline, and she will speak when she is ready. While she is coming to terms with her experience, why don't we focus on you?"
Olivia looks over and decides she has to decide if she wants to get cleared to go back to work. However, she feels guilty for even thinking about work when Kat clearly needed her more than her job.

"Kat," Olivia said as she walked into the apartment. She wasn't expecting a response, but she wanted to announce that she was there. Kat had been jumpy after the Lewis ordeal. Olivia walked to Kat's room, but the light was off and she was not there. Again, nothing surprised Olivia; Kat avoided being at the apartment and her bedroom, she usually came in right before her curfew.
Olivia finished dinner when Kat finally came in at 8:30. Normally they wouldn't eat that late, but things had changed since the kidnapping.
When Kat made it through the door, she was headed straight to the living room when Olivia stopped her.
"Kat, hey," Olivia said as she reached for her daughter's arm and turned her around.
Kat looked at her mom but didn't make eye contact.
"I made you some dinner. Why don't you come eat? I need to talk to you about something, okay?"
Kat didn't say anything and it took her a couple of seconds before she followed Olivia back into the kitchen.
Olivia put a plate down in front of Kat, who was now sitting at the counter with her jacket and backpack still on.
"Why don't you take off the jacket and backpack and stay a while? Water, milk, or juice?"
Kat didn't say anything and just looked at the food on the plate in front of her.
"Okay, water then," Olivia responded.
Olivia made her way around the counter with a glass of water and sat next to Kat.
"Kat, sweetie, I have been thinking we should move. I think we both need a fresh start," Olivia said calmly as she pushed back a lock of brown hair behind Kat's ear.
As soon as Kat heard the news, she turned to face her mom, and Olivia knew she approved of it.
"I have picked out a couple of places, and I think we should go together to look at them tomorrow, okay?"
Kat looked at her mom and nodded.
"I am also going to try harder to be here for you. I know I spend a lot of time at work, and I going to try and cut back." Olivia continued.
Kat had returned her eyes back to her plate.
"I love you Kathryn." Olivia said has she placed a kiss on her daughter's head before getting up to walk to bathroom. "I am going to shower and head to bed, don't stay up too late."
