It was late, Tum was annoyed as she checked the time again and glared down the table at her brother who seemed to never stop talking. He knew she wanted to leave knew she had something to do and it was like he was deliberately goading her.
Ianto knew too, watching as the twins showed a rare moment of disturbance between them.
She was eager to go, to leave and race along the corridors into the tunnel system and then to the ledge where (in Wolfling Form) she could stand in the wind and talk with her beau. Burn was jealous?
Tonight was no different, her sifting in her seat and openly glaring as her brother deliberately acted like a typical sibling who knew he was irritating her and was enjoying every damned moment of it.
"Burn, did you not want to ask your big brother over there about a security sweep later?" Ianto said softly and the boy forgot the needling of his sister in favor of rushing over to Billy to ask for a turn outside.
Tum turned to looked at her Tadda with open relief and adoration, excusing herself to go as she froze, her face changing to one of confusion. Ianto opened his mind to listen and felt it too. Danger. Someone was in danger.
Ianto glanced over at Jack who had felt it too, as had Pip. They all rose as one, leaving the area to meet in the outer corridor.
"Christian is sending a warning but I can't pick it up properly, he seems too frantic to form a solid image for me" she said as she reached for her Taddy's hand without thinking.
Ianto shot along the bond and into the boy's mind, the fear so raw that he made a soft noise of alarm, Jack reaching for him. Something was happing, something bad and Christian was hiding, crying softly as he hugged the wall in the dark, his fingers digging into the dirt. Something bad was happening and he was so scared. His heart pounding loud in his ears.
It took Ianto a few minutes to convince the boy to open his bond more, letting Ianto move efficiently into the group itself and he found other children also hiding, also afraid. Their mother was rampaging, something had enraged her and she was screaming, the sound like a dinosaur or something large being eaten alive. His skin crawled listening to her pain and anguish, her anger.
Something had infuriated her.
He learned for those hiding and listening to their thoughts that this happened each month, with the returning of the full moon she lost control and would rampage. Oh. Ianto had an image he did not want now, one of her tearing apart anyone and anything in her way. Followers, soldiers…. Children. Goddess… she had killed at least two of her own children in the past, why these ones hid.
Ianto closed the bond and swallowed thickly as Jack looked at him in question. Ianto took a deep breath and let Jack see some of it. His reaction was one of repulsion and compassion. Ianto had expected this, the man's huge heart feeling for the boy. The boy they had already started getting their heads around possibly becoming one of their pack one day if things continue the way they seemed to.
"You know what I don't get?" Jack said as he rubbed his hands together like he was cold, no doubt the lingering cold from the bond lingering in the air around them.
"Why Selene is watching us?" Ianto asked, surprised that his baby was intently part of this in the bond even as the others were all preoccupied.
"Why all of the creations from your father's lab… bar you of course… all went insane" Jack frowned "Could they not handle the power? I don't understand."
"And I am not a little insane?" Ianto countered as he tried to lighten the mood and Jack reached out to pull him close, not falling for it.
"He needs comforting" Tum said as she looked to her parentals for permission to leave and they nodded, letting her race off to her ledge.
That night she didn't sing the usual songs, that night she sung the lullaby her Tadda sang to her as a youngling. She sang a song of comfort, love and safety that not only had her own siblings comforted, but Christian's as well.
For she did not realize that he projected too, not to his mother of course. When she was like this all the children silenced so she could not find them, hiding in their little chosen spaces with hearts pounding as they listen to the pleas of whoever she had managed to find to kill. One of the Super Soldiers this time, his snarl of anger an fear as he tried to defend himself echoing.
That night Christan's closest and most loved siblings heard the voice of an angel that lulled them to sleep, the noises of their mother fading away as the land of long grass, spring flowers gave a feeling of freedom.
Seems the temperature was shifting over there in the other camp.
From cold fear to warm hope.
In time…maybe… they can move into hot anger.
And the sky will light the way.

But if there was time… I would not be telling you all this would I. For I know something you don't know… (OK Meretrixvilis knows, this was her idea) I know something that no one could see coming and only the Gods could know.
And so we end this section here and will head into the next section called Carrington Way… believe it or not we starting writing this next segment September 16 2023 LOL… you will know why it is so funny now when you get to read it.
