It seems like I am able to get these chapters out quicker than I thought. I know I said I would put the character list in this time but for now That itself is on hold until I find the time to bunker down. The whole week I did nothing but worked on this after I got home from work. Evidently this chapter seems shorter than it actually is because I am submitting this Just after reaching 30K on the actual document, But I guess it'll even out eventually Even if this is Just under the 10K originally.
I'm going to try and do the same thing every week, I THINK with varying levels of success I can get a new chapter out each week but I guess we'll see won't we?
A cold morning and a hot forge, Riverwood was finally awake and the small town was busy with its inhabitants wandering the street. "This is a fine blade Kotera, the steel is unlike anything I've ever seen before, the texture is quite remarkable and the edge is so fine I can't feel any chipping in it at all." Alvor said, he had asked to see my blade after I had mentioned to him just moments ago that my father forged it for me. He forged everything we used at our farm. "Yeah, my father often got praises from Bruma about his forging skills and even on occasion he was paid by the city to make and repair things." I had said sitting against the railing trying to keep a distance from the blazing hot forge, there was something so satisfying about the mix between the cold air and the heat of the forge, almost like a pleasant tempering. "Well, perhaps someday I would have to meet this fine blacksmith and learn something from him, my own blades pale in comparison to this fine piece of work." He had said before he gently offered me the handle of my family heirloom. I took the blade and gently returned it to its home in the scabbard. "Well perhaps once my journey is over those secrets won't be secret anymore." I had said, I didn't want to mention that the steel that formed the blade was of both Nirn's natural steel and Hylianium steel which I still don't understand where even he got it.
I went back inside for a moment and retrieved my bag that had my armor and gauntlets in it and brought it back out as I came back to the forge. "Well today I'll head out towards Whiterun and tell the Jarl about the dragon, and then I need to head back this way towards Half-Moon Mill. There's a cave I need to go to that had been appearing in my dreams as of late. I'm taking that as a sign for the first part of my journey." I had explained to Alvor as he worked the forge. "There and back again only to go where you saw in your dreams." Alvor said…I thought the old man was having a stroke when he said it and I shook my head. "Well enough of that. Here I'll teach you a bit of what I know. That leather armor of yours could use some repairs." Alvor said as he walked over to the tanning rack. I pulled my leather cuirass from my bag and noticed that it was indeed falling apart; some of the leather was torn and mangled though I didn't exactly pay attention to what caused it. "Wow…I should keep a closer eye on this stuff." I had said setting it on the table for him. Alvor waved me over and I crouched next to him at the tanning rack. "Now when you need leather strips to make repairs you just take a knife at an angle down the hide slowly like this." Alvor explained as he slowly dragged the knife down the hide stretched across the rack getting little curls of dried leather. He then handed me the knife and I had done the same thing. He collected the shavings and went over to the armor on the table before he took a few measurements before returning to his forge.
I looked to him confused as he had taken two ingots of iron to the forge with him and tossed them into a container. "This gives me an idea that may just reinforce your gear, it may be slightly heavier than you're use to but you'll be glad when you go up against someone's blade." Alvor said as he made sure the iron was cherry red before he pulled it from the forge and began hammering away. "Will this take long?" I had asked curious as to what he had planned. "Aye, come back in a few hours and this should be done, I'll make the repairs to the leather as well." Alvor had told me. I took this time to put my gauntlets on and I decided I would head for Whiterun. According to the map I should be there in less than half an hour, I thought that the journey there and back would give him the time to finish the modification. If I was to come across any trouble I would have to be extra careful if it broke out into a fight.
I started on the path towards Whiterun, it seemed peaceful for the most part, I noticed a wolf was near the path but the wild dog stayed at quite a distance only watching. I made eye contact with the wolf and roughly gripped the handle of my sword. The wolf got the message and scampered off quickly. For some reason I felt a strange connection with animals that I could show my intentions and the animals would listen but I did not know how to explain this. As I got to a clearing on the road towards the city I got to see the enormous structure in the distance. The city was surrounded by a few farms but its walls were high and looked well fortified. I made my way down the path and started for the city, I wanted to make this journey quickly to get back into something that would protect me so I didn't want to slow down and give something a chance to attack. I heard screams up ahead and I quickly ducked down. I didn't know where it was but I saw an actual giant stomping around at the farm just up ahead.
I leapt up and ran towards it to see many people fighting the enormous creature as it pushed and shoved them around. I drew my sword and crept behind nearly hit by its sweeping arms I sliced at the back of its knee and brought the giant down where another person had sunk a large broadsword deep into its skull with a sickening crunch the giant collapsed. "Well, that was a victory well earned, Good job little elf." A tall woman had said proudly. "Thanks…Figured you could use help with that." I barely managed to say in a civil tone, I didn't like being called little and this woman sounded…full of herself would be nice words. "Certainly not since I have my shield brothers with me but your arrival made quick work of the beast." She was full of it, she must have been part of a guild or something if she called the others Shield Brothers. "Well I need to get to the city, have fun dealing with…That." I said motioning to the large corpse of the now face down giant and I went off again towards the city.
I didn't feel like really getting into their bigheaded discussions, I never liked boastful folk, they all never knew when they could get knocked on their back by what they would call the weaker person. I made haste and picked up speed running up to the city to find the gates were closed down tight. "Halt, no entry into the city with the dragon about, what is your business here?" The guard said putting his hand out to stop me from getting past. "I've come to speak to the Jarl about just that, Riverwood calls for aid." I had said trying to persuade the guard to let me through. "You better get in there then, the Jarl's keep is at the top of the hill, tallest building in Whiterun." The guard said in such a heavy Nords accent I almost couldn't understand him. As I was let through the gate I walked through the bustling city up to a very busy set of market stands. I pushed my way past the townsfolk to make my way up to the keep. I didn't feel like having any other conversation aside from my meeting with the Jarl.
I climbed the many steps to Dragonsreach and finally I had to sit for a moment. I looked out and could see a lot of Skyrim from the top of the steps, well a good portion within my sight that ranged around the city anyhow. I stood back up after taking in the sight and walked across the bridge and into the palace. The inside stood tall, the throne room was large and almost overwhelming compared to the count's throne room in Bruma. As I walked up the large set of stairs I saw the Jarl already in a conversation with someone, the guard nearby him was a tall dark elf woman. She drew her sword and started walking towards me. Wary of this I put my hand on my own sword in anticipation to be attacked for whatever reason. "Who are you?! And why have the guards let you in here?!" She barked at me trying to get answers. "I am Kotera Kilyerd, I was sent here by Alvor to request assistance for Riverwood in the wake of the dragon's arrival. I was at Helgen when it attacked." I had answered loudly and stood tall; my hand however never left the hilt of my sword. I was ready to flick the sword from the scabbard at any second if I needed to.
"Well that explains why you were let in. Come, the Jarl needs to hear of this." The Dunmer woman ordered. She quickly walked over and leaned down to the Jarl who sat upright in his chair as I approached. My hand moved from the handle of my sword knowing I wouldn't need to draw it. "So, you were at Helgen when the dragon attacked? Please tell me everything." The Jarl had asked. The blonde bearded mans tone was calm, like he was still unsure of the entire situation. "Well I did have a nice view of the dragon swooping down to attack while the imperials were about to lop off my head." I had begun, the Jarl sat up a little more anxious than before. "You..You're certainly forward about your criminal past..." The Jarl started before I put my hand up, "No, Sir…I was innocent in that regard, I was merely in the wrong place at the wrong time traveling from Cyrodiil for a different matter. I just happened upon the band of Storm Cloaks and decided being civil with them was better than being killed and stuffed away." I had been truthful, I was concerned after I figured out they were Storm Cloaks that they would kill me to keep me from telling the imperials where they were. Didn't help in the end I guess as we were all roped into the same execution line.
The Jarl nodded listening to my explanation. I continued telling him about the events at Helgen until the point of my arrival in Riverwood. I mentioned that Alvor the blacksmith said that I should run and get help and that's what I was here for. "I see…Irileth; send a detachment to Riverwood at once!" The Jarl ordered before standing from his chair. "It will be done at once." The Dunmer woman put her hand to her chest and then quickly walked out of Dragonsreach. "I would like to advise against that, the Jarl of Falkreath will take this as a provocation and motivate him to attack, we should—" The Jarl spoke before the steward finished his sentence. "Enough! I will not stand by while a dragon burns my hold and slaughters my people! Your name was Kotera right? I would like to thank you for bringing us this information, perhaps you would like to help us retrieve something to help this situation?" The Jarl asked me calmly looking me in the eyes. I shook my head in refusal. "I'm sorry, but I have another matter to attend to once I reach Riverwood and retrieve my gear I need to head out and complete something I was tasked to complete in Cyrodiil, However once I retrieve something of my own I will return and we can talk details about this assignment of yours." I had explained, The Jarl smiled and nodded. "I understand, you have your priorities in order I see. Well at your earliest convenience please stop by again." The Jarl had said shaking my hand before I departed Dragonsreach myself.
I took a deep breath as I left the keep. I still couldn't get over the view of the large fields just outside of the city, the rocky peak that Dragonsreach sat upon was surrounded by green flowing hills of grass, little ponds and even other smaller formations of rock. This was the kind of place I'd really like living in, to come out every morning and see such beautiful fields of grass as far as I could see, the flowers amongst the grass in full bloom as spring had arrived giving birth to an array of pretty colors as the wind swept through the land. I suddenly wished my parents were here to see it. Skyrim was very beautiful here and it's a shame they can't see this right now. I made my way down the stairs and back across the market making sure to not make eye contact with the lunatic yelling about Talos before heading down the street back to the front gate.
I left Whiterun in a bit of a hurry taking my map out and pointing out the quickest route to Bannermist Tower. Running back towards Riverwood I felt like I had eyes on me, I took my sword from its scabbard and prepared myself. I slowed my pace and tried to listen for other footsteps, when there were none I would pick up the pace again putting my sword away and quickly bolting for Riverwood. The path back up was quiet but I wasn't going to rule out an ambush. I focused my senses and kept moving quickly, however nothing came of the effort as I passed under the threshold of Riverwood's gate and into the safety of the city. I must have beaten the guards that were going to be sent from Whiterun because it looked like no one else had arrived yet. I made my way over to Alvor who was talking with Hadvar. "Hey look whose back!" Alvor said cheerfully as he went over to his table. "Yeah I said I'd get help and I did, however I didn't know I'd beat them here." I had joked, Alvor chuckled as he held up my newly improved leather gear, a metal breast plate was now attached to the leather cuirass. The detail that stood out to me however was the golden Triforce that was now adorning the left breast of the metal plate. "I saw the interesting symbol on your gauntlets there and thought you should match it, the symbol is quite inspiring. It shows a pride without words. You should be proud to display it." Alvor said as I took the cuirass and ran my hand across the Iron of the breastplate; the Triforce was made of actual gold and pushed into place.
I slipped the armor over my head and the gear fit perfectly even if it was a little heavier than I was used to. "Thank you Alvor, how could I possibly repay this?" I had asked knowing I wasn't very rich and yet he put so much detail into the armor for me without needing to ask. "Think nothing of it friend! You helped us it is only right we return the favor, Riverwood is much safer thanks to you reporting this to the Jarl." Alvor said with a cheerful smile on his face before patting Hadvar on the back and returning to his work. "Want to go get a drink?" Hadvar asked, I about collapsed right there. "Absolutely…" I had said, we walked over to the Sleeping Giant Inn and walked over to the bar at the end. "Two ales please, Orgnar." Hadvar said putting some gold on the counter the broad man nodded quietly before pouring two large tankards and setting them on the bar. I took mine and walked over to the fire, I drank my bitter ale as the fire danced and warmed the room with an orange glow. "So that symbol my uncle gave to your armor, what does it mean?" Hadvar asked genuinely curious. I suppose there was no harm telling him; it was only the barman and the Innkeeper in today. "Well, my ancestors on my father's side actually were not exactly from Nirn. I'm not fully a wood elf, which is only from my mother's side. My father's lineage is called Hylian, a very ancient race of elvish folk that saw this symbol named The Triforce as a holy relic. The royal family of the hylian people used it as their crest." I had begun explaining showing him the palm of my gauntlet, showing the royal family crest of the Triforce atop a bird.
Hadvar for the most part was fascinated by this knowledge. "So you're saying you're of noble blood then? I suppose that would make you even higher than an Altmer if that were the case." Hadvar had said looking at the crest; I started laughing at the idea. "I guess I would be, but my family was not of the royal family, only their most trusted guard evidently. I do not believe I am of royal blood but I'm not sure where Hylians would stand today since the only ones left are my father and I and even then we're not full blood Hylian like my ancestor." I explained to him wiping my eyes from laughing causing them to tear up. I suddenly felt like I had eyes on me again, I looked around but didn't notice anyone or anything of note, the Innkeeper was busy walking about and sweeping the floors and the barman wasn't even facing us. "Is something the matter?" Hadvar asked, I shook my head and turned back around. "It's nothing, just a little paranoid I guess, just felt like I was being watched for a second." I had said, I finished my ale and returned the tankard to the barman. "Thank you kindly for the drink." I had said before bowing and walking out with Hadvar. The feeling had vanished again as quickly as it appeared; I was beginning to think my senses were trying to warn me to watch my tongue. The feeling had only risen after I began speak of Hylians.
"Well it seems like we part ways from now on. I need to get back to Solitude and report to General Tullius, I'll be sure to ask about your pardon on behalf of the mistake." Hadvar had said solemnly as he patted me on the back. "I wish you safe travels Hadvar and I want to be clear about this, I will not take sides in your war and I expect that both sides will treat me as neutral. If my quest guides me to one territory or the other I shouldn't have to face the fury of mistaken blame." I had said in a demanding tone, I wanted no part of the war between men, it wasn't my place to weigh in who was right and wrong in this freedom struggle. "That is understandable; I will relay this message to General Tullius." Hadvar had bowed and acknowledged my wish. "And another thing…I sensed something wrong when I began to talk about my heritage, please keep that knowledge to yourself. I do not yet know what is safe to reveal." Hadvar nodded quietly as I hushed my tone.
Just like that the two of us went our separate ways. I walked the path back towards where we left Helgen and made my way to the fork of the road. I did however hear odd noises from up the hill as I walked the path. Two men were arguing about who should stand guard at the door. I ignored the two and kept moving towards my goal, I no longer had time to wait on reaching the cave. I stayed close to the lakeside to follow the road to my destination; the water was a very beautiful light blue this time of year. I stopped for a moment to take in the view of the entirety of Lake Ilinalta. The water was crystal clear that the lake looked shallow. "Get out of the way girl!" I heard a pompous attitude snarl at me. I spun around with my hand on my sword. "Excuse me? Who the hell do you think you are?" I had snapped back at him about ready to just cut him down where he stood. Three Thalmor agents were now standing in front of me; two were in the heavy elven armor while the justiciar was in their classic black and gold trimmed robes. "Know your place lowborn! We're on a mission and we can't be delayed by simple common rabble standing in the middle of the road!" The robbed man barked at me with a furious annoyance. It took everything in me not to draw my blade and smack him around with the face of my steel. "Then you can be smart and go around, plenty of road here. What is it you robbed loonies do anyway? Scare little kids and haul people away for what reason? Is it because they disagree with your iron fist?" I snapped nearly getting in his face as I walked closer; I kept my hand on my sword.
"Hold your tongue girl!" The man ordered baring his teeth angrily. "Or what? I could draw my blade and beat you with the flat end before these two fat arses even draw theirs!" I exploited my knowledge of Thalmor forces, they were not the best direct fighters and they knew it. When it came to a fight they preferred taking their enemy by surprise otherwise they couldn't withstand fighting against someone of superior skills. "I suggest you three walk away while I let you, I don't have time to deal with pompous little snots who get off on scaring little kids all day." I said right in the hooded man's face as I drew my blade only a little letting the steel glimmer in the light. "Let's go…We don't have time to worry about this lowborn right now." The man grumbled as they walked around me, I noticed one of the armored grunts turn his head back. I turned around proudly and with a smile on my face continued to Half-Moon Mill. I was there in minutes before I took my map out and tried to get my bearings. "Facing the lake I should go directly…South." I had mumbled to myself before I turned towards the woods and made my way over. Just as Hadvar said, Bannermist tower stood tall before me as I looked over some of the rocks. Bandits were using the tower as a little hideout. "Great…Just what I need, five of these idiots blocking my way." I whispered to myself, I quietly drew my blade and picked up a loose rock from the ground. "What's that…Way over there!?" I whispered as I chucked the rock making it tumble in the bushes on the other side of the tower.
The bandits quickly drew their swords and two of them went to investigate. The woman that was watching a locked gate on the tower looked around everywhere else. But from what I saw none of them had a bow. I took this moment and crept to the cave entrance. "Never should have come here!" Shouted one of the bandits, I groaned and quickly spun to stand up in just enough time I slammed my blade into the steel of a bulky man wearing barely any armor, most of his exposed chest was visible, I reached down taking his own skinning knife from his belt and shoved it just under his arm pit as my steel locked his above him. This brang the stout man down a little and I switched the grip in my hand and slid the steel across his throat before looking to his friends. "Who's next?" I said as I kept my sword held in reverse grip and close to my shoulder and the skinning knife in my other hand. Two now began to charge as their leader and his crony stood back and watched with smiles on their faces. Those smiles quickly faded as I launched the skinning knife into the forehead of the woman causing her to twitch and fall over in spasms. The next man was dressed just like his now dead friend. I spun the blade in my wrist and switched it back to my right hand and I waited as the burly man went to strike horizontally. My blade connected first as I quickly pushed forward grabbing his wrist and running him through with the blade. They might have been big, but these two men were slower than two fat pigs in a race. For I was much smaller and quicker on my feet, I ripped the blade from his chest and with a spin I sliced clean through his throat in a mighty swing sending his head rolling across the dirt.
The leader of the few pointed and ordered his buddy to take his place and began to walk back to the tower. This man drew an Iron claymore, a large sword but I knew he wouldn't have much control over it. I walked towards the dead man and switched the blade to my left hand again flicking it around to grab it in a reverse grip for the second time. The man swung the blade around him before he tried to bring it down hard onto my head. I lifted my blade and caught his with the face before I directed it away from me making him stumble down and with a sickening crack I struck the man in the jaw with the rounded pommel of my sword knocking his head back and making him drop the heavy sword. I let go of the blade and by its handle rammed the sharp blade through the back of his head turning and slamming my palm into the pommel and bringing the big man down pushing my blade from the other side of his head into his now split open leg. I shook the blade and yanked it free again, only to move out of the way at the right second the leader had brought down a large battle axe down in attempt to chop me in two. His axe sliced through his dead friend and got stuck in the body. I chopped the handle of his axe so fast when he was trying to yank the blade free he tumbled backwards with the broken handle. I jumped on top of him taking the handle and jamming it into his throat with his own hand. "Suffer in Oblivion bandit trash." I whispered to him as I watched the light leave his eyes and his body slowly fall limp as he choked on his own blood.
I turned around and looked at the bodies that littered the ground. I sighed sheathing my sword and moved them all away from the cave dragging each body away from it and over to the tower. I ripped the key from the woman's belt and unlocked the gate to their hoard. I found a few thousand gold and a very nice blue glass dagger. I took the gold putting it in my pack while I salvaged a sheath off one of the other bodies and stuck the glass dagger in and tied it around my waist adjacent to my sword. These men were much too stupid to land a hit on me, It wasn't often I was so confident but something in me guided my hand subconsciously and everything just happened from there. I clapped my hands to wipe them and walked back over to the cave. "Good riddance…" I had said walking to the entrance of the cave. I sensed a barrier was there and I reached out and placed my hand against a golden barrier as it fizzled into view. Suddenly energy enveloped my hand and I was pulled into a dark void.
"Noble child, you have done well to follow our will." A voice divined from the void. "Indeed, we guided you here that you may bring to life that which your ancestor has placed here so many generations ago." Another voice answered after it, I didn't know where the voices were coming from but it felt like they were speaking directly into my head. "What did Ilgrad place here?" I had guessed asking them what my ancestor had done before his death. "Before he succumbed to his illness Ilgrad Kilyerd came to the land of Skyrim and in this very cave cast a spell that would plant the seed of rebirth. It was a spell that had taken half of his life force named sacred life. This spell made a pocket dimension that expanded out to create the temple you have seen in your dreams. This is the seat of New Hyrule; the temple of time awaits you within." One of the voices told the story of what my ancestor had done before death. "Indeed. We have judged your actions worthy and we now grant you access to your new home in Hyrule, protect this land with your life. You will find this land is lacking but there is an answer to this: Water the seed of life with the blood of the skies and see life born anew from its essence." A Third voice explained before I saw the entrance to a temple at the end of a small path. There was only a stairway and an enormous door and there was no building behind it.
I walked up the path and it was significantly warmer here, the green trees blew in the wind and the flowers danced with the grass. It smelled of lilac in the area as I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. As I climbed the first set of stairs there was a large pond with shimmering clear water, I walked around to the other stairs watching the water swish and move as the wind blew the surface. I walked up to the massive door; the metal wound against the door in a feathery design one side was white and the other black. The handles of the door was the symbol that represented a balance between light and dark being the opposite of the door itself. I pushed the door open and suddenly I was in the large temple again. The sense of vertigo returned as I walked up the middle of the temple. A large bow was displayed upon the altar three symbols were carved in the bow I didn't know their origin but as I picked up the bow it felt like it had belonged in my hands. The wood was smooth and pleasing to the touch as I ran my hand across the bow. The string was just as smooth; it looked very durable and made of a material I couldn't name.
I heard the large door of the temple shudder as it lifted open. I walked up to the door and it felt like every step the vertigo had gotten worse I felt like I was in so many places at once. As I stepped up to the pedestal the blue handled blade began to hum and glow in my presence. The yellow diamond that was within the hand guard glistened in the light of the temple. Many voices echoed in the temple. "She's here." "Take us" "Save our souls." Many voices and many words would echo from the blade. As I reached out and gripped the blade with both hands I felt my very life draining as I attempted to pull the blade. It felt like the blade was trying to devour my very soul, I felt weak and about to collapse. Just as I was about to slip into unconsciousness, the blade released me and we both pulled from the pedestal.
A whirling sapphire flame shot from the pedestal and began to swirl around the altar as my strength quickly returned. Light filled the temple and the world began to rumble as if a quake was shattering through a path. The vertigo had overtaken me as the world spun and the flame quickly shot to the ceiling before it all came to the center and shot into the yellow diamond in the handle. The flame wound lovingly around both the blade and my arm as if greeting me as its master. And then the vertigo vanished as well as the flames and the temple was still bright. I heard the ticking of a large clock but I couldn't place where it was coming from. "You have done well child of light." A voice from beyond had said. "I am Faron, the spirit of the forest. The Goddess Hylia yet slumbers, sealed in this temple until the first adversary is claimed and its soul returned to the temple. The sword you now hold is named The Master Sword. It is The Blade of Evil's Bane. Rise now dragon slayer and return to your world of Nirn, Slay the black dread that soars the heavens." The voice said before a visage appeared of a golden ball of light and a large monkey climbed and hugged the ball close. "We guided you here to fulfill the prophecy of the hero. You are of both The Hero and The Princess. We welcome you descendant Hero. With the heart to wield the sacred blade you are blessed with power to return to this altar at will. Your blade will come to your command may it strike down those who oppose you sacred child." The spirit went on and on.
Something came to my mind as the spirit talked, I lifted my head and it fell silent. "Great spirit, are the reason my fighting reflexes are so swift because I am the descendant of the Hero?" I had asked, I was unsure why my natural ability to fight was so precise no matter how quickly I moved it was all so planned out like it was all subconsciously thought through and automatically given form. "Yes, the Hero always had superb fighting ability; it is no mistaking this trait and many others have been passed down to you, the fighting skill of the Hero, the clairvoyance of the Princess. You hold in you an unwavering will and courage it comes at no cost to you. However I gather you felt strange before you picked up the sword?" The spirit asked me, I nodded looking at the blade. "I felt…like I was in so many places at once so many different emotions swirling around that I couldn't comprehend." I explained the feeling of vertigo to the spirit; it nodded and scratched at its head. "You must have felt the presence of your past lives. The previous heroes that wielded the same sword you hold in your hands have each met their demise save for one. The hero of time who now waits in exile, he exists to pass his knowledge to his other selves as punishment for a misdeed that was unheard of to his kind that we dare not speak of." The spirit said, it wasn't moments later that the light faded and the spirit vanished before we could continue. The temple was then silent, I began walking out of the temple and the sword too disappeared into a ball and into the center of my gauntlet. I sighed and picked up the bow for the same to happen to it.
"Seriously?…How am I supposed to use this stuff if it keeps going into my gauntlet it's not like I can just say To Me O Great Sword!" I joked as I held my hand out curiously focusing my thoughts on willing the blade to my hand. And just like that the sword appeared and floated to my hand. I gripped the handle and I must have blushed as red as a tomato. "Okay…Now you're just being a smartass…" I had said to it before I willed the blade back into the gauntlet. This made me wonder as I had taken my own sword from around my belt as well as the glass dagger. I held them out and focused on doing the same thing, they both vanished into light and the gauntlet was glowing in my hand. "Well that's cool…How much can it handle?" I asked the empty temple before I looked at my hands and the wall. I walked over to where I wanted to place this and held my hands out focusing on the treasure chest from back home that had done the same. The chest began to fizzle into existence against the wall. I opened the chest and took out the book. "Hylian Storage Instructions" the title read. I felt so stupid in that single moment than I had felt in my entire life, if I wouldn't have figured out how this worked by accident my things would be gone now.
Supposedly with the gauntlets I can summon and store items at will, This Sheikah technology was created to aid the hero of old on his journey. The treasure chest was like a void storage that would hold all things gathered on a quest. I turned to the chest and summoned my family heirloom sword; I looked to the blade in sadness as I decided to put it away in the chest. I kissed the handle and gently put the sword into the chest before closing it up and letting the chest return to the gauntlet. I now focused my will as the book said and summoned The Master Sword to my hand again, the brilliant blade shone in the sunlight from the window, the Triforce was etched into the blade and it began to hum with power as I tightened my grip. A sheath had appeared on my hip and I sheathed the ancient blade and made my way back out of the temple.
As I walked down to the cave exit I saw another chest, this one was much like a chest you would see in Nirn, large black and orange. I walked over and pushed it open to find a shield inside the shield was blue and bore the Triforce and the red bird under it had a different shape but the wings were the same. I picked up the shield and fit it over my left arm strapping it tight as I reached through to grab the handle. It too wasted no time vanishing into the gauntlet, but this felt different. I looked to the book again and read that a shield was different, when I wanted to defend myself I needed only will it to be and the shield would form where it once was. I concentrated and made a motion like I was to bring up a shield and magic shot to life as the shield appeared on my arm again creating a dome around me. This was the enormity of Hylian magic and it felt incredible. I dropped the guard and the shield once again vanished. "Well that's convenient, I can still fight the way I like and I now have a magical shield that I can summon at will…" I said to myself before I turned once again to the cave and walked out back to Bannermist tower.
I made my way back to Riverwood reading the manual of this storage spell looking for anything useful. The chest itself was endless storage but eventually the normal storage itself would be overwhelmed, the strength of the wielder determined how much the spell could hold. I found this useful before I reached behind and put the book in my pack just before I reached the fork in the road again. I picked up the pace and hurried back into the quiet town. There were many more guards based there now, it seems the Jarl kept his promise. I walked up behind Alvor and tapped on his shoulder. "Gods blood girl!" He shouted as he jumped and turned around from his table. "Sorry, I wanted to come say hello again." I had giggled putting my hands behind my back. "You've returned fairly quickly, I assumed it would have taken you a few days, but here you are!" Alvor said surprised to have seen me again in the first place, but I liked the little family. "Yeah, it's a bit complicated but I had to come back this way to go to Whiterun again to see about a quest the Jarl wanted done, I did make a promise that I'd return to inquiry about it." I had said, Alvor just laughed and sat down picking up his drink from the table and taking a sip. "I see you have a new sword as well. Well what are you waiting for let's see it!" Alvor asked waving his hand up. I drew the Master Sword and the blade rang before I turned it towards the ground letting Alvor have a clear view. "Beautiful, it's just like your sword but fully forged with that steel your father forged your original blade with. You traveled to that cave to retrieve that?" He asked looking at the elegant blade; I nodded and lifted it feeling the blade itself. "I did, supposedly it is important to my original quest, otherwise the spirits wouldn't have been so intent on trying to herd me to it." I had said holding it out to him. Alvor only leaned down and glanced at the blade, feeling the glimmering metal around the etchings and touching the gem at the handle. "It's such a fine craft, the winged hang guard is perfect for protecting the hand. The blade hums with power like it was meant to be held by you." Alvor said before running his thumb against the edge. "And the sharpness is absolutely fine. This is one sharp and elegant design, I've not seen anything like this in Nirn before." Alvor said before leaning back up and holding my shoulders. "It is a fine blade for a fine woman. I've only known you for a short time but I can feel that you have a warm heart. I pray to the divines for a successful journey." Alvor had said proudly, it was funny that in a way he reminded me of my father.
I threw my arms around him in a hug and held on tight. "Thank you…I am glad to have met you, you were very kind to let me stay until I can find my own home." I had said to him before releasing him from my hug. "Think nothing of it, I'm sure you'll be on your feet in Skyrim in no time at all Kotera, our economy is not as expensive as it is in Cyrodiil, I even hear that it's cheap to build a house on bought land!" Alvor joked, I was laughing along with him as we both sat down and talked. We must have talked for a few hours more before we decided to go in for the night. His wife Sigrid made stew and we all sat at the table and ate as I told them about the encounter with the bandits. "These idiots…I can't believe they even charged just two at a time let alone the one at first. Are the bandits here always so dimwitted and slow?" I had asked, Alvor was belly laughing as I explained how I took down five of them with no trouble at all. "I suppose they are, we don't get much bandit trouble so we can't really say how smart they are. But I'm sure a little thing like you can swiftly cut through them like a hot knife!" Alvor said grabbing my shoulder and shaking me a little.
When the night was over I got out of my armor and into bed. I felt the sting of my feet from my long journey today as I slumped down. "Can I sleep with you?" Their little girl Dorthe had asked me. I nodded and held up the covers for her to climb into. The little girl cuddled up and was soon sound asleep. I envied kids being able to fall asleep so easily, it sometimes took me another hour or so staring at the ceiling to fall asleep. Which is what I did as I lay there with the child holding onto me, just watched the embers of the fireplace light the ceiling. The orange dancing quietly before I finally nodded off into sleep.
I was back in the white void again, the energy felt much different and the Master Sword was already in my hand. I turned around to face the skeletal knight again as it looked to the blade and knelt down as if honoring royalty. However once he stood again he drew his own decrepit blade and a round golden shield. In my head I could finally hear his voice. "Champion of New Hyrule…I call to thee and teach you my skills in battle." The voice said before oddly sheathing his blade again. "Well at least you learned how to communicate…" I had pointed out; I felt the glare from the skeletal knight who did not find my joke amusing. "Right, sorry. Please teach me your ways Hero of Time." These words left the warrior in shock; He did not expect that I knew who he was from the tales of the spirits. "I….Have not been called that for eons. Very well child I shall teach you the mortal draw, this move is meant to fatally strike your foe the moment you draw your blade, but only when they draw close enough and go in for the attack." The skeletal knight said before he stepped closer and suddenly his blade flashed and was against my neck. "Please strike me with this thrice and your first lesson shall conclude." He talked like he was from a very different time period.
I listened and sheathed the Master Sword waiting for the right moment, his sword and shield held at the ready he stepped closer and closer. Just as he had stepped in range I mimicked the same move he had and my blade flashed and struck the skeleton across the chest sending him hurtling back into the tree with a mighty thud. A thud that echoed in the void and the knight fell silent as if the Master Sword had a strange effect on him. That's when I woke up again, before I could even finish the lesson another two times I opened my droopy eyes to the sound of Alvor moving things around to start a fire again. I sat up and rubbed my aching temples my head was beating like a drum. "Well, finally awake again? You've been sleeping all morning some food is on the table for you." Alvor had told me I slept till past noon I got up and got dressed in my armor again before picking up some bread. "When this passes, I will be on my way to Whiterun again…" I had said eating the bread Alvor only quietly nodded. "Be it not my business Kotera, but your sword glows brightly at night." Alvor mentioned, I looked to the Master Sword leaning against the bed as still as a statue. "To be honest I don't know everything about it just yet, only that it is a sacred weapon. The weapon is to be used to awaken something my ancestor placed…How did they say it? 'Water the seed of life with the blood of the skies' they said…I don't know what it means though." I had explained, Alvor turned to me and looked to the blade. "Could it possibly mean…slay a dragon? There are some that refer to the blood of the skies as dragon's blood." Alvor said and suddenly it seemed so clear. "I need to slay a dragon with the sword…and New Hyrule will grow?" I mistakenly said out loud. "New Hyrule? What is that?" Alvor asked, I swore under my breath. "I guess I should explain then…" I told Alvor the same thing I told his nephew but I included what I found at the cave.
Alvor sat down and listened to the tale. "This is all…very strange, never in any books have I read a thing about this Hyrule, you say it is a dimension parallel to us and yet here you stand a Hylian with a very sacred blade that slays evil?" Alvor was confused for the most part but he took it fairly well. "Well just for your safety I hope no Thalmor hear about your heritage. They hunted down all the blades before and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't make any exceptions for you." He mentioned in caution, it made me laugh a little. "Well I don't think I would have any trouble knocking them around if they did start any trouble. Well my friend, I need to be off." I had said standing up from the chair; Alvor got up and patted me on the shoulder. "Safe travels Kotera." Alvor said to me before I grabbed the Master Sword and may bag and left. I turned my sights towards Whiterun for the second time and headed down the path. While I walked the winding path I passed imperial soldiers leading along a prisoner, I didn't stop to ask what it was about I just kept going. I kept the ground beneath my feet and kept moving forward.
Once inside the city again I immediately made my way to Dragonsreach passing two redguards arguing with one of the city guard about their right to be in the city. I didn't bother with them because I was occupied with my own mission as I climbed the hill towards Dragonsreach. As I entered the castle I almost bumped directly into the Jarl. "Whoa there, no need to rush child." Jarl Balgruuf said stepping back and almost fumbling against the pillar behind him. "S…Sorry, I came here to see about this mission you had for me earlier?" I had asked, The Jarl nodded and I was led to the court wizard's room. The bearded man was almost as young as I was. "So I'll cut to the chase we have significantly less time than before, There's a crypt in Bleakfalls barrow I need you to find something in, It is called the Dragon Stone. A client asked for this stone personally after hearing about the dragon attack at Helgen and we've had no takers for this quest. We were hoping you could handle this for us since you seemed interested?" The wizard was quick to explain the details and I reached around pulling my pack down and pulling my map out. "Could you please mark it on my map?" I had asked, the wizard nodded dipping his nib into the ink before drawing a circle over somewhere in the mountain just above Riverwood. "Huh, Imagine that…" I had said, the two men looked confused to one another. "What is it?" Farengar the court wizard said. "I just find it funny I keep having to loop back to Riverwood to really get anywhere north or south in Skyrim." I had said, the two laughed. "Well it is kind of like a center point in Skyrim, the mountains close off forces from advancing north from anywhere, they need first to take Riverwood or pass the gorge on the other side. Once that is to happen forces are mustered at each side to repel the attacks, it has been used like this for centuries." Jarl Balgruuf explained. He was a very good storyteller.
As the ink finally dried on my map I rolled it back up and put it away in my bag before slugging it over my shoulder. "Off to the barrow then I guess." I had said addressing the two men before I walked off and out of Dragonsreach. I decided to head down to the tavern just down the hill named the Bannered Mare. Inside was a large fire pit and a bard singing away tales of a man named Ragnar. I walked over and passed the gold to the bar maid and was given a tankard of ale. I kind of developed a liking to the taste but I didn't want to get too crazy with it and decided to only have one. I drank down the bitter and smooth ale to warm myself before I turned the tankard on end and headed out thanking the bar maid and leaving. With the warm buzzing feeling I started for Riverwood again only to be stopped by the two redguards from before. "Excuse me, we're not welcome here in Whiterun, could you help us find someone?" The man asked, I shook my head and tried to continue on. "Sorry but I'm preoccupied with something else at the moment." I had explained to the man, a little annoyed that he decided to put his hand out to stop me. "Oh, that's too bad. Well we will be in Rorikstead when you find the time to assist us." The man said before they let me continue. I left the city and looked over the valley. I needed to travel back to Riverwood but before entering the little town I needed to take the other path up the mountain to reach the barrow.
I suddenly had a thought and remembered back to my bow. I went back inside the city and into the blacksmith's shop named Warmaiden's. "Excuse me; do you have a stock of arrows?" I had asked the man at the counter. "Sorry lass, that's the store across from us The Drunken Huntsman, the elf there deals with bows, I deal in weapons in armor." The man had said to me in a rough tone I nodded and went back out and over to The Drunken Huntsman. Once inside I was greeted by another wood elf behind the counter. "Welcome, how may I help you?" The man cheerfully asked. "I'm looking for arrows, what is your stock?" I had asked the man behind the counter. The man turned on his heels and opened a cabinet. "We have Iron arrows, Steel, and a few elven arrows." The man replied as he looked inside the cabinet behind him. "I'll take forty steel arrows please." I had asked the man nodded bringing out a quiver full of arrows. "That'll be three hundred gold please Ma'am." The little elf said as I reached for my coin purse I got out the gold and passed it over the counter before he handed over the arrows. "Have a great day!" He said before returning to his work. I left the shop after thanking the clerk and left the city again with the quiver strapped to my back.
Now it was onto Riverwood to Bleakfalls barrow. I started down the path towards Riverwood and the journey felt like it took no time at all. I was so use to the path already that it felt like it only took a few minutes. I was grateful for this since I wanted to get this over with as soon as possible. I went back into Riverwood once more and decided I should fill up something with water. I went into the Sleeping Giant and I was given a water bladder. I went outside and filled up from the fresh water of the river before I set my sights on the mountain. With the Master Sword on my hip I felt like I was ready to take on whatever was to come.
