Chapter 4: Reunion at Reefside

The familiar creak of the science lab door brought Alex face-to-face with his past. He paused for a moment, drinking in the sight of his old friends. Connor, Kira, Ethan—they looked older, more confident, yet unmistakably the same. Their presence tugged at memories he'd tried to bury.

"Alex?" Kira's voice was the first to break the silence. She stepped forward cautiously, her expression shifting between surprise and something softer. "It's really you."

"Yeah," Alex said, his voice catching slightly. "It's me."

Connor leaned back against a desk, his usual smirk softened by genuine surprise. "Man, look who decided to show up. What's it been? Four years?"

"Five," Alex corrected, stuffing his hands into his pockets. "A lot's happened since then."

"Clearly," Ethan said, glancing at Alex's Dino Gem. "But what made you leave in the first place? One day you were here, and then... nothing. No texts, no emails. We thought—well, we didn't know what to think."

Alex winced at the memory. "I didn't mean to ghost you guys. I just—" He trailed off, searching for the right words. "I wasn't like you. You all had dreams, things you were good at. Kira had her music, Connor had soccer, Ethan had his tech stuff. I felt... useless. Like I didn't belong."

"That's not true," Kira said, frowning. "You belonged with us. You were part of the team."

"I didn't feel like it," Alex admitted, his voice quieter now. "Even when we weren't fighting Mesogog, you guys always seemed so sure of yourselves. And me? I was just... lost."

Dr. Oliver, standing by the computer console, stepped in. "You weren't the only one who felt that way, Alex. Being a Ranger doesn't come with a manual. It's hard for everyone in different ways."

Connor nodded, surprising Alex with his seriousness. "Yeah, dude. You think I had it all figured out? Spoiler: I didn't. Still don't."

Ethan added, "We all had doubts, Alex. You weren't alone in that."

Alex looked at them, guilt twisting in his chest. "I didn't know how to talk about it back then. So I ran. I thought if I could figure out who I was on my own, maybe I'd feel worthy of being part of the team. But it didn't work."

"And now?" Kira asked softly.

Alex glanced at the Spinosaurus Dino Gem in his hand, its glow faint but steady. "Now I realize that I can't do it alone. This Gem found me for a reason, and I think... maybe it's time I stop running from who I am."

Kira smiled, her voice tinged with emotion. "It's good to have you back, Alex."

Connor clapped a hand on Alex's shoulder. "About time, man. Just don't pull a disappearing act on us again."

"Deal," Alex said, a small smile breaking through.

Ethan grinned. "So, Spinosaurus, huh? That's pretty cool. Does it come with laser beams or something?"

Alex chuckled. "Not quite, but it's got some tricks up its sleeve."

Before they could continue, the lab's alarm blared, and Dr. Oliver moved to the computer. "Mesogog's forces are on the move again. It looks like they're targeting the city."

Connor cracked his knuckles. "Finally, some action. Let's go."

Dr. Oliver turned to Alex. "This is your first fight with the team in years. Are you ready?"

Alex felt the Dino Gem pulse against his palm, a reminder of his renewed purpose. He looked around at the people who had once been his family, and maybe could be again. "I'm ready."

As they morphed together, Alex felt something shift inside him. The weight of his past mistakes didn't disappear, but it didn't seem so heavy anymore. He was finally where he was meant to be—fighting alongside his friends, as part of the team
