Chapter 6: A New Frame

The stars shimmered above Reefside as Alex and Sophie wandered along the boardwalk. The faint hum of the ocean in the background blended with the occasional chatter of passersby. It was one of those nights that felt timeless, as though the world had slowed down just for them.

"I forgot how peaceful this place could be," Alex said, shoving his hands into his pockets. "I've missed moments like this."

Sophie glanced at him, her smile soft. "You used to say that when we were younger. Whenever things got overwhelming, we'd come here and just... breathe."

He chuckled, shaking his head. "Yeah, I guess I've been chasing that feeling again. Everything's been so chaotic lately, it's nice to just... I don't know, exist for a second."

She stopped walking and leaned against the wooden railing overlooking the beach. "Well, you've got the stars, the waves, and me. I'd say you're doing alright."

Alex leaned beside her, their shoulders brushing. "I'd say I'm doing more than alright."

A comfortable silence settled between them, the kind that didn't need to be filled. Sophie pulled her phone out of her pocket, fiddling with it for a moment before holding it up. "Let's capture this. It feels like one of those moments you don't want to forget."

Alex raised an eyebrow but smirked. "A selfie? Really?"

"Don't act so surprised," she teased. "Come on, before I change my mind."

He leaned in, their faces close as the camera captured the moment. The flash lit up their smiles, genuine and unguarded. Sophie looked at the photo, laughing softly. "Not bad. We clean up alright."

"Let me see," Alex said, peering over her shoulder. The photo was simple but perfect—two old friends rediscovering their connection, framed by the glow of the stars and the faint outline of the ocean.

"Send it to me," he said. "That one's going in the 'keep forever' folder."

Sophie raised an eyebrow, a playful glint in her eye. "You have a 'keep forever' folder?"

"Only for the best memories," Alex said with a grin. "Looks like this one made the cut."

Sophie shook her head, smiling. "You're such a dork."

"Yeah, but I'm a dork with a pretty great selfie," he shot back.

As they laughed, something shifted between them. It wasn't just the shared joke or the picture—it was the ease, the understanding, the way they fit together without effort. For the first time in a long time, Alex felt like he was exactly where he was meant to be.
