Chapter 8: Reunited

The café in Reefside had always been a favorite spot for Alex and Sophie. Back when life was simpler, it had been their place to hang out, talk, and escape the pressures of the world around them. Now, it felt like a lifetime ago, yet here they were again, reconnecting in the same spot.

Alex walked in, glancing around. Sophie was already seated at their usual table, sipping on a latte, her eyes scanning through her phone. She looked up just as Alex stepped inside.

"You made it," she said, her smile lighting up the room. There was something familiar, comforting about it, as if the time apart hadn't changed anything.

"Of course," Alex said, slipping into the seat across from her. "Wouldn't miss it."

Sophie studied him for a moment, eyes softening. "You've changed, you know? I mean, I can tell you're not the same guy who left town."

Alex chuckled. "Yeah, I've got a few more responsibilities now. The Dino Thunder team… it's a lot more intense than I expected."

Her eyebrow quirked. "So you're really doing it. Being a Ranger."

"Yeah," he replied, his voice quieter, almost thoughtful. "I guess I am. I never thought this is where I'd end up, but... it feels right."

Sophie leaned back in her chair, giving him a knowing look. "You've always had a way of finding your place, even when it seems impossible."

Just then, the door jingled open, and Conner, Kira, and Ethan stepped inside, laughing and talking amongst themselves. They spotted Alex immediately, waving over to him.

"Hey, Alex!" Conner called out, striding over with his usual confident grin. "You didn't tell us you were meeting up with old friends."

Kira gave a friendly wave, her energy radiating as she joined the group. "It's nice to finally meet the infamous Sophie." She reached out to shake her hand.

Ethan, ever the laid-back one, simply waved from behind the others. "Nice to meet you, Sophie. Alex has talked about you a lot."

Sophie's eyes flickered to Alex, a small smile tugging at her lips. "I'm sure he has. We go way back."

The group all sat around the table, and for a moment, there was an easy silence as they settled in. Alex felt a sense of warmth in his chest, seeing Sophie surrounded by his new team. It was strange but also comforting—his two worlds blending.

"So," Sophie began, looking from Alex to his teammates, "tell me about this Dino Thunder team. What's it like working with all of you?"

Kira grinned. "It's chaotic but fun. And we get the job done, which is the most important thing."

Conner nodded. "We've had our ups and downs, but we've learned how to trust each other. And that's what makes us strong."

Sophie smiled at that, glancing at Alex. "Sounds like you've found a good group."

Alex met her gaze, his voice steady. "I have. They've got my back. And I've got theirs."

The conversation continued, each moment reminding Alex how far he'd come. He had his past with Sophie, but he was also building something new with the Rangers. And somehow, both parts of his life felt right.

As the evening wore on, Sophie leaned in, her eyes glinting with mischief. "So, tell me, Alex, how do you juggle being a Ranger with… everything else? I mean, all the drama with Kari, the team, and now your old friends? Must be a lot."

Alex paused, his expression thoughtful. He hadn't expected the question, but Sophie always knew how to get to the heart of things.

"It's a lot," he said honestly, glancing around at the team. "But I'm figuring it out. I'm not perfect, but I'm trying."

Sophie nodded, offering a soft smile. "That's all anyone can ask for."

As they all talked into the evening, laughing, sharing stories, and reconnecting, Alex realized that no matter where life took him, he would always have his friends by his side—old and new. And that, in itself, was enough
