Chapter 28: Saviors and Upgrades

"Kurogiri made the warp exactly where you said. What now?"

"Thanks Dabi. Now I need you guys to go through the warp. When you get through, immediately release your flames."

"Alright, whatever you say."

"Great. Insignia out."

"Alright Kurogiri, looks like I'm heading through." Dabi stated while walking towards the warp gate.

"I see. I will follow shortly after." Kurogiri replied.

Dabi nodded, and then walked into the warpgate. When he appeared on the other side, he immediately shot out a stream of fire just like Insignia had instructed. Once the fire dispersed, Dabi saw one of the Shie Hassaiki members laying on the floor sporting many burns. Dabi walked towards the guy and torched him again. Had to make sure no one escaped after all. When Dabi turned around, he saw Kurogiri standing off to the side and Spinner and Toga gaping at him like fishes.

"You guys gonna continue to gape at me like that?" Dabi questioned with a smirk.

Toga launched herself forward and wrapped her arms around Spinner. "I thought we were going to lose you Spinner! Don't ever scare me like that again!"

"I'm…not..dead.." Spinner said slowly.

"Nope." Dabi said as he kneeled in front of Spinner.

Toga was full on sobbing at this point, muttering streams of incoherent apologies. Spinner then gently put his hand on Toga's wrist. "I'm okay Toga…"

"I know! But you almost died for me!" Toga cried out.

Dabi smiled and patted Toga's head. "Well, we don't have to worry about that right now, do we crazy?"

"I guess not…" Toga said with a small smile.

"Thanks man." Spinner huffed out.

Dabi just chuckled. "Don't thank me, thank them."

"I see. I'll have to thank them when we get back then." Spinner said with a smile.

"We will shower them in praises when we get back!" Toga cheered while pumping her fist in the air.

A crackle then came across all their coms.

I: Insignia K: Kurogiri D: Dabi S: Spinner T: Toga

I: "You do realize I can hear you guys, right?"

T: "Uh…yes?"

I: "That sounds more like a question than an answer."

D: "She totally forgot."

S: "While you're on, thanks for the save."

I: "No problem. That's what friends are for."

K: "Speaking of friends, how are our other comrades faring?"

I: "Ah yes. Status report: Rappa, Tengai, Rikiya, Hojo, Larceny, Tabe, Mimic, Nemoto, Deidoro, and Chrono are all deceased. Overhaul is currently fighting Shigaraki, Mr. Compress, and Twice. And according to Dual, it seems that Twice has gotten over himself."

T: "Wait wait. Are you telling us that Twice got over his mental barrier?

D: "You serious?"

I: "Dead serious. Currently…there are hundreds of Twice's assaulting Overhaul. Shigaraki is off to the side cackling in manic glee, while Mr. Compress is helping wrap the real Twice's ankle up. I believe he broke it, which caused him to realize he was the real him."

S: "That's….awesome."

T: "It's settled then. We'll be throwing a party for all of you then!"

D: "Oh god no."

K: "I am not quite sure that is the safest idea."

I: "Yeah…I feel like we would get out of control fairly quickly."

K: "Yes, you all will. Irresponsible children, the lot of you."

T: " *Gasp* How dare you!?"

I: "...Did you just gasp?"

D: "Unfortunately…she did."

S: "Well then…."

I: "You know what, I think that's your guys' cue to get back to work!"

T: "Oh come on! What do we even need to do!? Twice is handling Overhaul perfectly fine!"

I: "I think you're forgetting that we still need to make sure Eri's safe, and I would much rather make sure that happens before you guys decide to obliterate the Shie Hassaiki compound."

T: "...Fair enough."

D: "While I hate to say it, Spinner and I probably aren't the best choices for making sure the girl is safe. Our appearances and all that."

S: "Ugh, I forgot about that."

I: "Hmm..well then. I guess we have no choice. Toga, you'll have to secure Eri."

T: "YES!"

S: "Umm…are we sure that's a good idea?"

I: "Absolutely not. Unfortunately, we have no choice."

D: "I hate that you're right."

K: "I'm assuming the rest of us will be going to assist in the takedown of Overhaul?"

I: "That's correct. To get there, just go back the way Spinner came. You'll see the battle."

K: "Great. Thank you for the assistance."

I: "No problem. Toga, just continue going down that hallway, and you'll find Eri's bedroom door."

T: "You got it!"

D: "I feel like we're going to regret this."

I: "Most likely. Insignia out."

"Well then, I guess we're splitting up again." Dabi said.

"Yep! Well, I'll see you guys later! Got a girl to rescue!" Toga yelled as she ran further down the hallway.

Spinner cleared his throat. "Well then, guess I'll lead us to the fight then."

And with that, the three of them were running towards the main fight.

Earlier

After what had happened with Magne and Compress, Shigaraki had been furious. No one was supposed to die. They were all supposed to change hero society together. But now that was ruined because of the jerk Overhaul. So there was no way in hell Shigaraki was going to mess this up. Insignia and Dual had given them everything they could possibly need to prepare for this fight, and he would make sure to put it to good use. While the rest of his comrades were searching for the lowlifes, Shigaraki was hunting down the big boss. It had been quite awhile since he had gone after someone so high profile as well. Shigaraki also figured that it was proper that the boss's started the official showdown themselves. Once Overhaul was beaten up a good portion, then his comrades could take their own share. Shigaraki knew that the members of the League would all like to deliver their own punishments to the man that took away someone they cared about. Overhaul wouldn't go unpunished, that was for sure.

The moment Shigaraki had found Overhaul, he launched himself at him. Luckily Insignia had given them a rundown on how Overhaul's quirk worked, so Shigaraki knew what to expect. When the spikes came barreling towards him, he simply reached his hand out and disintegrated them all. It was quite easy since Shigaraki was so fast. It also helped that he had good reflexes. Dodging all of the spikes came as easy as breathing to Shigaraki since he was always in his element amidst the battlefield. He could always be himself on the battlefield, not having to worry about any of his duties. He could just rage to his heart's content.

Though, there was one weird thing about this battle. Shigaraki knew he had good skills, but right now he felt, very light. It felt like he was pulling off moves that he wouldn't have been able to pull off yesterday. Shigaraki also noticed how everything seemed to be moving in slow motion, like he could see what was going to happen before it even did. And then, something even crazier happened. Within his rage for Overhaul killing his friends and abusing a child, everything disintegrated. The disintegrating part was normal, but the part that wasn't normal was the fact that he hadn't even touched everything that turned to dust. He had only put three fingers on one of the spikes before it and everything in the vicinity disintegrated as well. Shigaraki wasn't quite sure what it was, but he knew he was loving it. It must've been like one of those powerups in video games where your character suddenly becomes super op. Shigaraki thought it fit quite well for what was going on.

Obviously, Overhaul didn't like whatever the hell was going. This could be told from the amount of screaming and raging the man was doing. Shigaraki actually found it quite annoying. Just as he was about to retort back, he heard a staticky sound fill his ear.

"This is Insignia. I was watching your fight, and it seems your quirk has reverted back to its original state."

"Original state? What do you mean?"

"I have a theory that the true potential of your quirk was locked away due to your trauma, but it seems that you've bypassed that block now."

"Huh. So does that mean I don't need five fingers to disintegrate things?"

"Sort of. I think some of it is emotion based. You're feeling very strong emotions right now I bet, which is probably causing you to use your quirk more freely. Instead of the five finger activation, you were able to use three fingers to disintegrate everything around you without touching it all. I believe this is run off of your emotions, whereas originally you would need to use five fingers to achieve what you just did."

"So I was able to use three fingers for my quirk because I'm emotional?"

"Exactly. I just thought I'd let you know so you don't get confused. Also since Overhaul seems pretty keen on monologuing right now."

"Pfft. Alright, thanks for the heads up."

"No problem. Insignia out."

Once the com crackled out, Shigaraki looked straight ahead. Just like Insignia had said, Overhaul was still very busy monologuing. Taking this as his chance, Shigaraki darted off towards Overhaul. When he realized this, he immediately ran back, and destroyed the wall behind him. Shigaraki followed him through the destroyed wall while also decaying the spikes that appeared in front of him. Once the spikes stopped coming towards him, Shigaraki looked around him to see where they had ended up. To his surprise, they were in the area where Twice and Mr. Compress had seemed to fight Mimic. It also looked like Twice was having a tantrum. Shigaraki silently wondered what that was about, before the room was filled with hundreds of Twice's clones.
