Chapter 29: Coming to a Close
"How long will it take us to get there?" Dabi questioned as they were running down the hallway.
"Based on what they said, we should be pretty close. I'm guessing there was a lot of collateral damage from both fights." Spinner replied.
Dabi sighed. "Fine, but we better not miss Twice beating the hell out of Overhaul."
"You know I wouldn't miss it for the world." Spinner said happily.
The trio continued to run down the corridor, while also hearing the telltale sounds of battle. Based on what they could hear, there was a lot of screaming going on. Luckily, it sounded like Overhaul was the one who was doing the majority of the screaming, which meant he was getting frustrated. Perfect.
"I see the entrance!" Spinner shouted.
"Oh yeah, you can definitely tell a fight is going on in there." Dabi said with a smile.
"Now that we're closer, I can hear Shigaraki laughing. Is that a good thing?" Spinner questioned.
"It sounds like Tomura Shigaraki is enjoying himself, so I believe it is fine." Kurogiri stated.
"Kurogiri knows best." Dabi muttered.
Finally reaching the entrance of the room, the three walked through. When they reached the other side, they all just stood there. And how could they not just stand there with dumbfounded expressions? Even though Insignia had told them Twice had gotten over himself, it was still a whole nother thing to see in person. It was especially shocking to see Shigaraki cackling off to the side as well. Though the best part was the fact that all of the Twice's kept contradicting each other with insulting Overhaul. No wonder he was so mad. Facing hundreds of insults must've been horrible for his self esteem. Oh well. He could go rot in hell for all the League cared.
Trying not to draw attention to themselves, they continued to walk against the edge of the wall to reach their comrades. Once they safely made it over, they greeted each other.
"Hey guys. Seems like you're having some fun without us." Spinner said cheerfully.
"Yes. I do believe Twice is having the time of his life at the moment." Mr. Compress replied with a huff.
Shigaraki snorted. "Well good for him! This is hilarious!"
"It's definitely a sight to see, that's for sure." Dabi said while observing the battle.
"Yeah seriously. Whenever the clones get speared, even more pop up. It's like a virus, neverending." Spinner stated.
"Indeed it is. Though who knows where the real Twice is now, considering he scampered off after I patched him up." Compress said with a nod.
Dabi smiled. "I'm sure we'll find him eventually. For now, let's let him have his fun. He's probably never felt that good in his life before."
"Welp, guess that means we're just watching from the sidelines then." Shigaraki said while plopping down onto the ground.
"Hmm, seems like Twice is getting pretty creative with those insults over there, huh?" Spinner said with a chuckle.
"Oh absolutely. I do wonder where he picked it up from." Mr. Compress said while playfully glaring at Shigaraki and Dabi.
"Oh please, it's not our fault. He came like that." Dabi said with a scoff.
Shigaraki grumbled. "Can't believe I'm agreeing with you, but exactly what Dabi said."
"Why thank you, boss." Dabi said with a smirk.
"Don't test my patience." Shigaraki said with narrowed eyes.
"Alright alright. Stop your fighting. We got a battle to watch." Spinner said while eagerly facing towards the center of the room.
"Whatever." Shigaraki muttered. Dabi then rolled his eyes. "You don't have to tell me twice." Mr. Compress snorted, but quickly played it off as a cough. He has no idea what he just said. Compress inwardly smirked. Oh well.
Everyone then turned towards the battle, and keyed into all the lovely insults coming out of the clones' mouths. Overhaul sure wasn't happy, that was for sure.
"This guy's stupid!"
"What an idiot!"
"How's this guy even incharge of this place!?"
"So incompetent."
"You won't get away with this child abuser!"
"Ha! You're probably the only one left of your pathetic club!"
"Ooh yeah! The Shie Hassaiki is super overrated!"
"It might as well just be a diplomatic club!"
"One that ends up in those diplomats dying!"
"Oh hell yeah! They never stood a chance!"
"It was obvious from the start that the League was superior!"
"JUST SHUT UP!" Overhaul screamed in outrage.
"Ooh, looks like someone's upset." Dabi said happily.
"Oh, that's very obvious." Spinner said with a laugh.
It was at that moment that the winner of the battle had been decided. Unbeknownst to anyone watching, one of the clones that had been created was none other than Tomura Shigaraki. Not wanting to draw attention to himself, the clone had inched himself towards the wall, making sure to stay out of Overhaul's sight. The clone had to make sure that he was watching carefully. Any openings that were created, he had to latch onto. There was no way the League was going to fail their mission, and that only made the clone steel himself harder. He silently watched as the other clones continued to constantly berate Overhaul, while the man himself howled in uncontained rage. Due to this rage, he didn't notice the opening he left. The clone wasn't sure if it was his memories, or the memory of the real one, but as he advanced towards Overhaul, a silent voice filtered through his head. One of the best things to do is to rile your opponent up. While this can make them fight back harder, it can also leave them in a state of vulnerability. You'll always be the most vulnerable when you're angry. This is because people lose the ability to think clearly when angered. That's why if any of you need to, make your opponent angry, and use their moment of obliviousness to strike. And don't let up. I'm sure some people would say, 'Go for the throat.'
Actions solidified, the Shigaraki clone appeared right behind Overhaul at the exact moment that he had let himself fall vulnerable. How unfortunate. Well, not really. Reaching out, the clone planted his bare palm flat against Overhaul's back. For a second, everything stilled, and then the room was filled with ear splitting screams. When everyone looked, all they saw was a clone of Shigaraki smiling gleefully while pushing his hand further into Overhaul. Right before their eyes, Overhaul was slowly turning to ash. Before he fully succumbed though, Overhaul screamed one last sentence of pure rage.
"I'LL KILL YOU ALL! jUST YOU WAIT!"
And with his final declaration, Overhaul disappeared before their very eyes. For a second, everything was quiet, until all the clones present in the room dispersed. Standing in the middle of the battlefield was Twice wearing a blinding smile with no mask present on his face. At the sight, the League members all jumped to their feet and barreled towards Twice. Spinner reached him first, while happily tackling him to the ground. Everyone else joined shortly after, wearing their own smiles on their faces.
"Way to go Twice." Dabi said with a nod.
"A job well done." Mr. Compress said.
Shigaraki laughed. "That was awesome Twice."
"Seriously dude! Pulling off a big win like that!" Spinner said while smiling. Twice just grinned back. "Heh. Aw come on guys! It was obvious we were gonna win from the start!"
"Damn right it was." Dabi said with a smirk.
"Obviously, we're the best." Shigaraki said with a playful shrug.
"And the show comes to its lovely conclusion." Mr. Compress stated.
"I'll say. That was one awesome battle to watch. I'm glad we caught it." Spinner said while helping Twice stand back up.
"It was quite the battle indeed." Kurogiri said.
Shigaraki smiled. "It was definitely a boss battle alright. But I believe our true winners are somewhere else at the moment." At the mention of the others they all grinned maniacally.
"That is true indeed. We must be sure to congratulate them." Compress said with a tilt of his head.
"Ha. There's no way we'd ever forget our best support." Dabi said with an eye roll.
Spinner laughed. "I'm sure Toga will be sure to shower them in praises."
"Oh! She totally will! And I'll be sure to help!" Twice said excitedly.
"She's getting the girl right now, right?" Shigaraki asked.
"Yeah, she'll probably come here after though." Dabi replied.
"Well, guess we just gotta sit back and relax then, huh?" Spinner said.
Mr. Compress huffed. "I could most definitely use a break."
"I think the same could be said for all of us." Dabi stated while sitting down on the floor.
"I'm sure Toga will be here soon!" Twice said while flopping down onto the ground.
"Well, I guess we're just waiting now then." Shigaraki said tiredly while joining everyone else on the ground.
Kurogiri sighed. Children.
