Naugus laughed in joy for his latest victory*
Ixis Naugus: So much power! And it's mine! All mine! The only thing more sweet than total victory is gloating about it! *he touched the Master Emerald & his horn started to glow* Oh, Wendy? Dear sister? Can you hear me?
An image of Wendy's face appeared*
Wendy Naugus: Wally? I didn't know you were nearby.
Ixis Naugus: I'm not! I've secured the Master Emerald and finally restored my magical prowess. No thanks to you!
Wendy Naugus: Well, good for you! I've joined the Eggman Empire!
Ixis Naugus: WHAT!?
Wendy Naugus: So while you've got your mojo flowing, I've got a world-wide empire supporting me.
Ixis Naugus: Y - You unbelievable traitor!
Wendy Naugus: Wah-wah! Cry me a river, Wally. Then go drown in it. Or tell me where you are so I can deliver that precious gem to -
Her face disappeared as Naugus pulled down his hat in anger*
Ixis Naugus: No . . . I won't let her spoil this for me. I've won. *he touched the crystal that was holding Knuckles* After a well-deserved test, I'll decide what to do with all of you. It's not like you're going anywhere!
(Knuckles' POV)
I could hear everything that was going on in my crystal casing. As I listened to the old troll gloat & laugh, I thought back to something that happened on our way here*
(Flashback)
*Me, Julie-Su, & Amy were flying in Amy's pink car to the Kingdom of Acorn*
Amy: It feels like it's been ages since I've been home! It'll be nice to check in on everyone.
Julie-Su: Oh Knuckles, we should also see your sister while we're here. I'm sure she'd love to see you!
Knuckles: Mmm.
Amy: Hey! Cheer up. We caught a lucky break with all the shards winding up roughly in the same place. We'll have the Master Emerald restored in no time.
Knuckles: It's not that. It's just . . . Never mind.
Julie-Su: Hey, come on. It's just the three of us here. You can tell us anything.
Knuckles: Pfft! What's to tell? I'm just the Guardian of the Master Emerald who isn't cut out for the job!
Julie-Su: What?
Knuckles: How many times has it been stolen now? Or shattered? Is Shadow right, and it'd be better off in a vault somewhere?
Amy: Forget Shadow. I'll tell you what I know. You're a good guy. Sure, you've been tricked and robbed, but you've been on your own most of your life, besides your Dad and Archimedes. You've been brave enough to live in the be world, doing a thankless job, and fully committing to it, no matter the odds. You're a special kind of person. A hero, even!
Julie-Su: And it's that same kind, naiveness, that I fell in love with.
*I thought about what she said & did a fist-bump with Amy & kissed 'Su on the cheek*
Knuckles: Thanks, guys.
Amy: Anytime.
Julie-Su: Always.
Knuckles: Don't tell Sonic about any of this.
Amy: You don't want him to know you've got a soft side?
Knuckles: I don't want to deal with him teasing me.
Amy: He only teases his friends. It shows he cares.
Knuckles: I don't care of he cares . . . And he teases Eggman.
Amy: No, he mocks Eggman. There's a difference.
Julie-Su: It's true. There's a huge difference between teasing and mocking.
Amy: And he never gives up. That what I find so inspiring about people like you two. No matter what, you keep fighting . . . You keep fighting . . . You keep fighting . . .
(Present Time)
Those words echoing in my head are what gave me the strength to break free*
Knuckles: . . . He's gone . . . And so is the Master Emerald . . . And Amy . . .
(Julie-Su's POV)
Just then, Knuckles freed me from my crystal casing. Then he freed Shadow, Rouge, & Omega. Me, Rouge, & Shadow were a little groggy as we climbed out*
Rouge: Ugh . . . How long were we in there?
Knuckles: Too long. Naugus' escaped with the Master Emerald and kidnapped Amy too . . . I think.
Shadow: Can you tell if they're still in these caverns?
Knuckles: Yeah . . . I can sense the Master Emerald, three hundred feet below us.
Omega: I WILL CREATE A SHORT-CUT.
He used his arm cannon to create a hole in the floor & we all jumped down. Luckily, the opening was near where Naugus & Amy were*
Ixis Naugus: No! I will not lose! Not when I'm this close to -
He tried to reach for the Master Emerald again, but Shadow & I kicked him away*
Julie-Su: Not this time, pal!
Shadow: You've already lost.
Naugus created a wall of crystal to block Shadow's Spin Dash & my laser blast while the rest of us landed behind him*
Knuckles: You almost blasted Amy and the Master Emerald, you hunk of junk!
Omega: YOU DID NOT SPECIFY AN ANGLE FOR THE SHOT.
Knuckles: There's no way I could've known that!
Omega: THAT SOUNDS LIKE YOUR SHORT-COMING, NOT MINE.
Knuckles: Forget it. *he broke the crystals holding Amy, freeing her* Easy does it.
Amy: Urgh . . . Thanks, Knux.
Knuckles: No. Thank you.
Amy: What?
Knuckles: I'll explain later.
Naugus dodged a Spin Dash from Shadow & a laster from me*
Ixis Naugus: Metal Golem! Serve me again!
He sent a blast of magic at Omega, but Amy blocked it with her hammer*
Amy: Nope!
Now her hammer had crystal spikes on either end*
Rouge: Well, isn't that nice? Wally upgraded your hammer for you.
Amy: Try to kidnap me, huh?
She charged at him, hammer raised*
Ixis Naugus: Ahh! No! You . . . You . . .! *he suddenly turned into Sonic* Y - You wouldn't hit your true love, would you?
I rolled my eyes. Talk about desperate*
Amy: Oh, that is low. And insulting! You think I won't clobber you just because you look like Sonic? You don't deserve to get hit by me. Besides, I know others who wouldn't even hesitate! Fellas?
Both Knuckles & Shadow punched him in the face*
Julie-Su: Nice one.
Amy: Thank you.
Omega: LOGIC ERROR. ENEMY TARGET PREVIOUSLY IMMOBILIZED ALL OF US WITH ONE SHOT. WHY IS HE NOT DOING SO NOW?
Rouge: We're keeping him away from the Master Emerald. He's got some power on his own, but we've taken away his trump card. With that in mind, Knuckles! Tag out!
Shadow had Naugus, still disguised as Sonic, in a head-lock & Knuckles was ready to punch him*
Knuckles: In in the middle of something! *he came over to us while Shadow took care of Naugus* I saved you all! I should get dibs!
Rouge: Oh, so I can have the Master Emerald for myself then? Or are you three going to take it back to Angel Island? Since, y'know, it'll keep Wally from overwhelming us again.
Amy: Okay! But . . . How are we going to get it out of here?
Just then, I noticed a very familiar red orb*
Julie-Su: Uh . . . Hey! With this!
It's a teleporter, just like the ones on Angel Island.
Amy: Down here? How does that make any sense?
Knuckles: Right now, I don't care. Let's just get moving!
We positioned the Master Emerald on the teleporter*
Amy: Sure, not how does it wooookrk - !? *suddenly, in a flash of red light, were transported to another location* Whoa! What a rush!
Knuckles: Careful!
We excited where we had landed*
Amy: Where are we?
Knuckles: This is . . . This is Sky Sanctuary!
Down below, the cracks in the planet's crust were starting to close*
Julie-Su: . . . The world is setting back together . . .
Amy: We're gonna fall! Knuckles!
Knuckles: Follow me!
The three of us carried the Master Emerald across Angel Island. Through teleporters & across bridges. We even passed Relic & Fixit at one point. Soon, we arrived at the Shrine & put the Master Emerald back in place. Angel Island began to go back up to it's proper place in the sky. Then the three of us fell down & laughed in relief*
Relic*off-screen* We . . . We're laughing now? Is that cathartic "Oh, what a relief, we're all safe" laughter or "Dash it all, we're doomed, so why not?" laughter?
She & Fixit joined us at the top of the shrine*
Knuckles: Amy, this is Relic. She likes ruins and stuff, so we let her stick around.
Amy: Hi, Relic. I'm Amy Rose.
Relic: Cheers. Proper job of saving the island and all our lives, even if you cut it a bit close.
Fixit: HELLO! I AM FIXIT. I AM ALSO HERE TO HELP.
Just then, Amy's Miles Electric started ringing*
Amy: Sorry, hold on a second. *she answered it* Hello?
Relic: We were trying for get in touch with you, but I can't get that beastly contraption to work . . .
Julie-Su: Uh . . . How you'd expect us to answer?
Amy: Rouge! Angel Island is safe!
Rouge: Great! And we're fine, by the way. Although keeping that lunk in charge up there isn't what I'd call "safe." Wally's down for the count. I think King Acorn will be happy to hear we'll be taking him off his hands.
Amy: Thank goodness! And, um . . . If it's not too much trouble, can I get a ride back? I do not want to use those teleporters again!
Julie-Su: Why not! They're fun!
Relic: They are not, and you know it!
Knuckles*to Amy* Hey. Thanks.
Amy: I'm happy I could help
Knuckles: No, I mean for . . . Everything. For believing in . . . Y'know . . .
Amy: Hey, I had my moments of doubt too.
Julie-Su: Yeah, well, it didn't stop you.
She pulled us both into a hug*
Relic: I'm glad you had such a productive holiday. Welcome home.
Knuckles: Thanks, Relic. It's good to be back up here. Where we belong.
Julie-Su: Yep. It's good to be home.
We sat where we were, watching the last of the cracks close*
(Abigail's POV)
The next day, me, Lacey, Sonic, Amy, Cream, & Cheese were having tea in the Royal Garden with Sally & her family. Amy was telling us all about her adventures underground*
Amy: . . . From up there, watching the world come together was actually rather pretty!
Queen Alicia: Did you happen to see that dastard, Naugus, on your way home?
Amy: As your official Royal Liaison, I asked to see him for myself. He's not going anywhere! *yep. Naugus was now locked up by G.U.N. and with his powers gone, he's not going anywhere* My only regret is that I didn't get to say goodbye to Chip.
Cream: I'm sure he'd understand, Amy. But still . . . I miss him.
Cheese: Chao . . .
Lacey: We all will.
Sonic: He's the Light Gaia, Spirit of the World. He'll always be with us in . . . Well, spirit. So more moping, okay?
Abigail: Right. He's want us all to be happy.
Huckleberry: Chao-Chao!
Amy: What's going on happen to those hidden caverns now?
Sally: They'll need to be properly surveyed, but until then they're under constant watch by the Royal Guard.
King Nigel: I had offered to reward Team Dark handsomely for their services to the realm, but Rouge seemed content with the one souvenir. Shadow and Omega seemed . . Less materialistic inclined, shall we say?
I giggled. It figures. To Shadow, getting the job done was the only reward he ever needed*
Elias: Father also offered to induct Angel Island into the Kingdom of Acorn, or at least supply Knuckles with a Garrison of Royal Guards, but he flatly declined.
Sonic: That's Knux for you. Stubborn as a rock and about as hard-headed.
Sally: You make fun of too much.
Sonic: No, I tease.
Sonic & Amy: There's a difference!
Me, Huck, Lacey, Amy, Cream, & Cheese laughed. Sally blushed, while her family looked confused*
King Nigel: Ahem! Indeed. By the way, Rouge wasn't the only one to take one of those massive gems from the mines . . .
(Julie-Su's POV)
That night, Knuckles & I stood side-by-side in front of the "Master Emerald", looking up at the night sky*
Relic: Hullo, Knuckles. Julie-Su. Is everything all set, then?
Julie-Su: I dunno. You tell us.
Fixit was scanning the "Master Emerald"*
Relic: I haven't the foggiest. Fixit?
Fixit: I'M SORRY, MADAM, BUT I CANNOT DETERMINE IF IT IS REAL IR NOT. THE MASTER EMERALD'S POWER IS ALL OVER THE ISLAND.
Knuckles: Exactly. Anyone else looking for it will have just as hard a time. And I'm not telling which one I've got out here!
Relic: Very clever! Well, I'm still a bit worn, what with nearly falling to my doom and all. I'm calling it a night. You two should too, no? Cheerio.
Julie-Su: Goodnight.
Knuckles: Sleep well.
Julie-Su*in her mind* Knuckles may not be perfect at this, but the Master Emerald is back where it belongs, and that's what counts. I may not know which is which, but he knows and that's what's important. He can sense it's true power and that puts us ahead of any would-be thieves. And with that, we'll keep Angel Island safe for as long as we can.
