Upon arriving at Unus City, Professor Oak asked Davis and his friends to accompany Professor Kukui and his students. They even got to meet with Fauna. Now, they all gather so that they can witness what a real gym battle is like.
"Wow! This is a gym?! It's certainly different from Misty's Cerulean Gym!" Mallow said.
"That's because this gym is designed for flying-types." Professor Kukui claimed. "The open roof is meant to help them fly into the sky."
"This is going to be awesome!" Sophocles claimed. With all of them watching to the side, Davis was all set on his end. Then, Kaze walked through the door and came out for this challenge.
"Hello, Davis. I've been waiting for your arrival." Kaze said. "I hope you came prepared this time because this battle will be much more difficult than our last." Time to see if Davis can earn his sixth badge.
Through the water, forest, and up in the sky

(Davis' voice): Unus Union: To the Gym
"Thanks for having all of us, Kaze." Davis said. "I hope you don't mind the audience. Some of these guys come from a place where they don't have gym battles, so I hope you don't mind them watching. They want to see what a real gym battle is like."
"Of course not. It's also a great pleasure to have Fauna here." Kaze said as even Fauna was going to watch this battle. "Well, let's get started."
"Right. The gym battle between Davis, the challenger, and Kaze, the gym leader, will now begin! Each side will be allowed the use of three pokemon! The battle will be over when all three of one side can no longer battle! Only the challenger will be allowed to substitute his pokemon!"
"Go get him, Davis! Battle with all the fire in your spirit!" Kiawe cheered.
"Time to see if you can really earn your wings. Emolga, let's go!" Kaze called as he chose his pokemon.
"Emolga!"
"Aw! It's so cute!" The girls all cheered.
"It might be cute, but it will be difficult to beat." Cletus said. "Emolga is a flying-type, but also an electric-type. A tough combo that's going to be difficult to beat." Davis could tell he's up against a tough opponent, but he won't back down.
"Ready?" Davis asked.
"I am." Imperialdramon said as he walked out on to the battle field.
"Let's do this. I'm ready for a battle!" Davis said as he was set. "Imperialdramon, start things off with Dragon Pulse!" Imperialdramon gathered his dragon power and fired it right at Emolga.
"Use Acrobatics!" Kaze called. Emolga flew around with nimble movements and great speed. Emolga was able to fly around the Dragon Pulse and got close enough to Imperialdramon to land a series of it's own attacks.
"You little runt!" Imperialdramon called as he tried to reach out of it, but Emolga flew away. "Get back here!" Imperialdramon flew after Emolga and tried to get a hold of it, but Emolga was able to stay out of it's reach. It was getting rather frustrating.
"Stay calm, Imperialdramon!" Davis called.
"Now use Thunderbolt!" Kaze called. Emolga unleashed an electrical shock and blasted Imperialdramon with it, but Imperialdramon was able to withstand the attack.
"I've dealt with stronger juice than that." Imperialdramon said.
"Now use Focus Punch!" Davis called. Imperialdramon flew through the electric current and was able to land it's own attack against a surprised Emolga. "Now use Brick Break!" Imperialdramon smashed its arm against Emolga again and landed another attack.
"A couple good hits!" Lana said.
"But they don't do much damage." Sophocles said.
"Wait! Something else is going on!" Lillie said. All of them noticed Emolga was holding on and was releasing more static. The static traveled over Imperialdramon's body and was affecting his body.
"What's going on?!" Davis said.
"I'm afraid that's Static, Emolga's ability." Kaze explained. "When a pokemon makes direct contact with Emolga, there's a chance it will suffer from some paralysis, and that's exactly what's going on." With Imperialdramon having it's body going numb, this battle is going to make things more difficult. "Now use Acrobatics!" Emolga kept the attacks going as it kept striking at Imperialdramon.
"Try Focus Punch!" Davis called. Imperialdramon tried to fight back, but his body was moving much slower. Even when he could move, it wasn't going good at all.
"How come Imperialdramon can't hit Emolga? Is it really because of the paralysis?" Terra questioned.
"No!" Cletus said as he realized something. "Emolga is much smaller and more nimble than Imperialdramon, so it's harder to hit! The paralysis is only making it worse, so it's going to be real difficult to land an attack on Emolga!" Imperialdramon kept trying, but they were going nowhere like this.
"Come back, Imperialdramon. We can't win like this." Davis said. Imperialdramon did what he was told and came back.
"Sorry." Imperialdramon said.
"It's fine. Just try and shake it off." Davis said and got his next pokemon ready. "Cheebolt, you're up next!"
"Cheebolt!"
"So, you've decided to bring out with your electric-type. We're more than ready for that." Kaze claimed. "Emolga, Aerial Ace!" Emolga flew straight down and right at Cheebolt. Emolga's attack landed, but that's just what Davis wanted.
"Use Bite! Don't let them escape!" Davis called. Cheebolt timed the attack perfectly as Emolga bit down on Emolga's tail and had a painful hold on Emolga now. "Now give Emolga a good throw and use Fury Swipes!" Cheebolt threw Emolga as hard as he could. As Emolga flew across the air, Cheebolt jumped up to Emolga and kept slashing his claws against Emolga. With one more powerful slash, Emolga was knocked out of the sky and crashed right into the ground.
"Emolga is unable to battle! Cheebolt is the winner!"
"Yes! The first win goes to Davis." Sophocles claimed.
"And with him using an electric-type, he's sure to win." Mallow said.
"It's rather early to celebrate. Kaze's next two pokemon will be just as tough, and Imperialdramon is still suffering from the effects of Static." Cletus said. "This battle could still go either way."
"You did pretty good, Davis, but let's see how you go against an old friend. Talonflame, let's go!" Kaze called as he made his next choice.
"Talonflame!"
"It's that Talonflame again!" Terra said.
"Davis battle it before. It is rather tough, but they used the air flow last time they battled." Cletus said. "They might be battling in a different area, but it's still going to be one tough battle."
"I knew you were going to come out eventually." Davis said. "Things are going to go very differently than they did last time. Cheebolt, get in there with Thunder Fang!" Cheebolt gathered electricity in its teeth and charged right at Talonflame.
"We won't back down! Talonflame, Flare Blitz!" Kaze called. Talonflame encased itself in blue flames and dove straight at Cheebolt. The two of them charged right at each other and collided in an explosion of power. Both of them were able to pull away, but Talonflame suffered more damage since Flare Blitz caused recoil damage. "Now use Flame Charge!" Talonflame encased itself in a different set of flames and flew right at Cheebolt.
"Dodge it!" Davis said. Cheebolt jumped out of the way, but Talonflame came back around.
"Use Flame Charge again! Try to match Cheebolt's speed!" Kaze called. Talonflame ignited itself in flames once again and was moving faster. Talonflame kept it up to try and match Cheebolt's speed, and it will happen as Talonflame is only getting faster.
"Talonflame might get faster with Flame Charge, but it can only get so fast." Fauna said.
"They can't keep this up." Cletus said.
"I think it's time to take this head-on." Davis said. "Cheebolt, Fury Swipes!" Cheebolt jumped at Talonflame with its claws ready, but Talonflame flew in and was still encased in flames. The two of them collided once again with both sides taking some damage. "Hold nothing back! Wild Charge!"
"We won't hold back either! Talonflame, Flare Blitz!" Kaze called. Both of their pokemon used powerful attacks once again and was heading for another collision of raw power. The two of them collided once again with a fierce explosion going off and knocking both of them back. The struggle was too much for them and they were both taken out of the battle.
"Both sides are unable to battle! This match ends in a draw!"
"A draw?! That battle went very differently than last time!" Terra said.
"Davis did have the type advantage, and they both used attacks that caused recoil damage." Professor Kukui explained. "Even so, having this battle end in a draw showed that Talonflame was quite strong. Now Davis doesn't have his key pokemon anymore."
"Cheebolt, return. You did great." Davis said as he brought Cheebolt back to his pokeball.
"Talonflame, return and get some rest." Kaze said. "Your pokemon are rather tough, Davis. That Cheebolt of yours certainly had a lot of power behind it, but now I'm curious to see what you will do against my last pokemon. Let's go, Falket!" He chose his next pokemon. It ended up being a falcon-like pokemon that's about five times the size of a normal falcon. It had dark grey feathers on it's wings and back with white feathers on its chest with black triangles. It also had a teal brace around its waist with fins like a rocket on it.
"Falket!"
"What is that?!" Davis questioned. He pulled out his pokedex to learn more about it.
"Falket, the Rocket Pokemon. A flying-type. It is said that Falket is the fastest flying-type. It is capable of flying all the way to the stratosphere."
"The fastest flying-type?!" Davis said as he couldn't believe he was facing a pokemon like that.
"That's right. Falket can be rather powerful pokemon, and they're quite fast." Kaze said. "Perhaps my Emolga and Talonflame were a little easy for you, but you won't have such an easy time against this pokemon." Davis can see he might have a tough battle with this one. He reached for his next choice, but Imperialdramon stopped him.
"Wait. Let me." Imperialdramon said.
"Are you sure?" Davis questioned. "You can barely move."
"We can't afford a mistake if we're going to win. The least I can do is learn what it can do." Imperialdramon said. Davis didn't like it, but he trusted his partner. Imperialdramon walked out on the battlefield and tried to keep moving, but his body was still feeling rather numb. "Come on."
"I applaud your commitment, but I'm winning this." Kaze said. "Falket, Steel Wing!" Falket spread its wings and dived straight at Imperialdramon with incredible speed. The attack hit with Imperialdramon in mere seconds. It's living up to it's name of being the fastest flyer. "Good, now use Crush Claw!" Falket flew up and dived straight down with its talon out.
"Try and use Focus Punch!" Davis called. Imperialdramon fought through the static and smashed his fist against the talon with Falket being knocked back. "Can you fly?"
"I'm trying..." Imperialdramon said as he tried to get up there.
"Falket, Steel Wing!" Kaze said. Falket flew at Imperialdramon again and smashed its wings against him. "Now use Work Up!" Falket was surrounded by a red aura and grew stronger.
"What's going on?" Mallow said.
"Work Up is a move that raises attack power." Lillie said.
"Talk about getting worked up." Lana said.
"And that Falket is already pretty strong to begin with." Fauna said. "I'm afraid Imperialdramon can't win this battle no matter how committed he is."
"Now use Brave Bird!" Kaze called. Falket surrounded itself in powerful energy and dived straight at Imperialdramon once again.
"Dragon Pulse! Blast Falket before it's too late!" Davis called. Falket flew right at Imperialdramon, but Imperialdramon was able to form the attack and caused Falket to crash right into it. "Now use Focus Punch!" Imperialdramon attempted to attack once again, but the effects of Static kicked in and stopped him.
"Use Crush Claw!" Kaze called. Falket came down at Imperialdramon and smashed its claw against Imperialdramon. It knocked Imperialdramon down and smashed him into the ground. After that, Imperialdramon was have an even harder time moving now. He just couldn't go on like that.
"Imperialdramon is unable to battle! Falket is the winner!"
"Imperialdramon!" Davis called as he hurried over to him.
"That Falket is tough and fast. It's not going to be easy to defeat." Cletus said.
"And Davis has only one pokemon left. How can he match that speed and power?" Terra questioned. It wasn't looking good for Davis, but he wasn't going to back down. Once he got Imperialdramon off the field, he got his focus back on the battle. There was only one pokemon he wanted to finish this with.
"Time to finish this. Skyjay, let's go!" Davis called as he brought out his final choice.
"Skyjay!"
"I've been waiting for this one." Kaze said. "Let's see if Skyjay is really any stronger." This was one battle to look forward to.
"Let's go, Skyjay! Wing Attack!" Davis called.
"Steel Wing!" Kaze called. Both pokemon flew right at each other. The two of them kept flying at each other and kept clashing to try and get the edge. "Now use Work Up and go into Steel Wing again!"
"SkyJay, Quick Attack!" Davis called. SkyJay powered itself up and flew straight at Skyjay. Skyjay tried using Quick Attack to counter, but Falket had much more power in it and did a lot more damage. Davis didn't like how this was looking. "Skyjay, get some distance between you and Falket!" Skyjay tried doing just that as it flew up in the sky.
"You won't escape!" Kaze called. Falket flew after Skyjay and was soaring like a rocket. It was even able to pass Skyjay and got in it's way. No matter which way Skyjay went, Falket got in the way.
"Falket is so fast!" Kiawe said.
"There's nowhere to run!" Sophocles said.
"Now use Crush Claw!" Kaze called. Falket held out it's talon and stomped down on Skyjay. Crashing down from there would result in major damage.
"Get out of there!" Davis called. Falket drove Skyjay all the way down and was on the verge of crashing into the ground, but Skyjay was able to break free from the attack before that happened. "Nice job! Now use Wing Attack!" Skyjay flew right at Falket and smashed its wings against Falket. "Nice going, Skyjay! Keep it up!" He said with a smile on his face and with enthusiasm. When he had that, Kukui could have sowrn he was looking at Ash for a moment.
"You're doing good, but not good enough. Falket, Brave Bird!" Kaze said.
"Skyjay, use Double Team to try and avoid it!" Davis called. Skyjay flew away from Falket and made copies of itself to try and avoid Falket's attack.
"It won't help." Kaze claimed. Falket coated itself in energy and went on the attack. It flew around and struck every copy with fierce speed and power until Falket hit the real one. Skyjay was knocked into the air after that attack. That attack looked like it could have been the final blow.
"Is this it?!" Kiawe said.
"It can't be!" Mallow siad.
"It's not! Skyjay!" Davis called. Skyjay tried to continue to fight back as it unleashed the potential it had inside. Skyjay was covered in powerful aura. No one expected it. "Is that... Skyjay, Sky Attack!" Skyjay used the new attack as it flew straight Falket and smashed right into it. That attack had a lot of power behind it that it knocked Falket to the ground. "That was awesome!"
"Incredible! Did his Skyjay just learn to use Sky Attack?!" Kiawe said.
"It did! That really is incredible!" Cletus said.
"Most impressive. Skyjay learned a powerful attack right when Davis needed it." Fauna said. "The bond he shares with his pokemon is strong, and continues to get stronger."
"This is just the power that we need! Let's finish this with another strike form Sky Attack!" Davis called. Skyjay went for it as Skyjay began to build power once again for one more powerful attack.
"We won't back down! Falket, Steel Wing!" Kaze called. Falket flew straight up and had the attack ready. Skyjay dove straight down with the attack. The two of them charged right each other and collided in a fierce explosion. Someone would have to fall after something like that. They all wondered who it would be until they saw Falket fall out of the smoke and landed on the ground.
"Falket is unable to battle! Skyjay wins, and the victory goes to the challenger!"
"Oh yeah! Way to go Skyjay!" Davis called.
"Skyjay!"
"He won!" Terra said.
"That was amazing!" Kiawe said.
"So that's what a real gym battle is like! I'm speechless!" Lana said.
"It was spectacular! No wonder Ash loves them so much!" Lillie said. Things seemed really satisfying here. The students loved the battle they saw and it helped them learned what gym battles are really like.

"Davis, that was an excellent battle. I hope your friends had a great experience." Kaze said as they all stood outside now that the battle was over. "For those who don't know, you are rewarded a badge when you win against a gym leader. Davis, here is the badge you won here. This is the Horizon Badge." He said as he handed him a badge that looked like a cloud and a sun.
"Thanks a lot, Kaze." Davis said. "Yeah, the Horizon Badge is mine!"
"That looks like something Ash would do." Lillie said.
"That was so awesome, Davis." Sophocles said.
"Gym battles really are incredible. They're just like island trials back home." Kiawe claimed.
"And now you have six badges. You're just two more away from entering the Pokemon League." Cletus said.
"I know. This is so exciting." Davis said.
'He's so full of spirit and energy.' Fauna thought. 'I can tell he's going to make a great trainer with how much he loves pokemon. His smile is just radiant with joy. If only...' Fauna thought of something else, but what could that be?
Davis has managed to win his sixth badge, and has given Kukui and his students a great show. Now, he's only two badges away from entering the Grecko League.
It did seem like a great time, but it was cut when Davis and his friends saw the sudden arrival of someone else.
"Jason..." Davis said. Adding one more to this party, Jason himself was there. Davis was surprised to see him, but Jason just brushed him and the others.
"Are you Kaze, the gym leader?" Jason asked.
"Yes..." Kaze said.
"I challenge you to a gym battle." Now Jason is going to battle? What's going to come from this?
