Hotshot and Rev were sat at a table with Shockline. Each one had a stack of transformers sized cards in front of them (A gift form a very appreciative government official) as the femme taught them the game called Slapjack. She giggled as she slapped another Jack and pulled the pile to join her winnings.
Rev smiled over her helm at Hotshot when the leader released a false groan of disappointment. While the femmeling had no idea they were letting her win, they secretly enjoyed seeing her try to move fast. Hotshot also took the chance to try and train her reflexes. Rev was just there to watch his leader interact with the child. The black spychanger always changed from a hard no-nonsense type to a stern, but laidback type of mech.
"I think she's too good at this game," Hotshot commented.
Rev grinned. "It's all in good fun."
"Rev," Hotshot continued, "what do you say we teach her one of our own games?"
Shockline bounced in her seat, grinning eagerly. "You know a game?"
Rev gave her a playful smirk. "What'd you have in mind, Hotshot?"
"Alright," WARS gave a quick clap of his hands and gestured to the space around him. "We each hid something of ours in the base. You have to use everything we taught you to find them. We can give you hints, but no cheating." Shockline bounced on her feet while Crunch sat reading a datapad a bit aways from the group.
"I can do it! You wanna help, Crunch?" The mechling shook his head without turning away from the story in his hands. "Can I start yet?"
"Hold on. Ironhide's still hiding his."
"Why's he so slow?" She whined, making Mirage laugh and Crosswise tap her on the audio with a finger.
"Patience." The science officer tilted his helm while waiting for a response from his teammate. Ironhide sent a final confirmation to let them know to set Shockline loose. "Alright! Go on." With a shout, she launched herself into the base, her small frame darting between towering stacks of crates, machinery, and various tools strewn across the room. Pausing, she narrowed her optics with thought before darting out into the halls. Shockline's bright optics glinted with excitement as she scanned the area, scanning every nook and cranny. She was fast, but Hotshot knew she would need more than speed to track down their hidden items.
"Remember, you have to use everything we taught you!" Hotshot called out, leaning against a nearby wall with his arms crossed.
"I know!" Shockline shouted back, already diving into the first pile of crates. "But I can't see anything yet!"
Rev chuckled from behind her, watching the femme scramble. "You'll get it, Shockline. Just keep your focus." The spychangers had hidden stuff within the first few rooms. They didn't want to make it too difficult after all.
Crunch, still absorbed in his datapad, barely looked up. "She's gonna get frustrated if she doesn't find something soon."
"Let her figure it out," Crosswise replied with a knowing grin. "It's part of the challenge. Besides, it'll teach her patience."
"Hey, no fair," Shockline huffed as she kicked aside an old barrel. "You all hid something really good, didn't you?"
"Can't say," Mirage teased, his optics dancing with amusement. "But I can tell you... the more you think, the better you'll do. Use everything you've learned. Some things aren't able to be seen, but can be found with just using our processors."
Shockline paused for a moment, staring at the marksman, before tapping her chin thoughtfully. She turned to Crosswise, the Spychanger most of the kids trusted most for guidance. "What do I do if I can't sense them? I thought I was supposed to feel them."
Crosswise looked to Rev, who raised an optic ridge and stepped forward. "That's part of it. Your instincts are important, but you also have to think logically. Are you sure you checked every corner? Are you really using everything Hotshot and I taught you?"
She nodded, looking back at the room with renewed determination. "I'll try harder."
Hotshot's grin widened under his mask as he saw the shift in her focus. "That's the spirit."
A few moments passed, and Shockline suddenly froze, her head tilting as she scanned a particular corner of the room. Slowly, she walked toward a stack of crates that was slightly off-center from the others. "Found something!" she called out excitedly.
"Well, look at that," Mirage mused. "She's learning faster than I thought."
Ironhide wandered into the room, chuckling, when he noticed that she was catching onto the item that Crosswise had hid. Shockline pulled out a small trinket from between two crates, holding it up triumphantly. "Got it! What's next?"
Hotshot and Rev exchanged glances with the other Spychangers, the proud smiles on their faces impossible to hide. "Now the real fun begins," Rev said. "You've got one down—now find the others!"
As Shockline dived back into her search, Hotshot approached Rev, clapping him on the back. "I think she's ready for more challenges. What do you think?"
Rev gave a soft chuckle. "She's certainly got the drive. Let's see how she handles the next round."
The two mechs watched as Shockline scrambled with newfound energy. She was learning quickly, and though her youthful enthusiasm often got the best of her, they both knew she would be a valuable asset in time. For now, though, they'd let her have fun with the game, knowing the lessons she learned here would carry over later on in life.
"Next time, we're hiding really tricky stuff," Hotshot said with a smirk, holding out a hand so he could hold onto the item that WARS had hid.
"I'm ready for that," Shockline called back, already darting off in search of the next item.
