I don't know why I'm shocked this arc is still going when I knew it was the longest out of all the Rando Week stories.
Chapter 170: Agents of Asgard Part Eight
FBI Correctional Facility, Maximum Security - Time Unknown
During one of their shared free periods, Sigyn meets Apollo at the library. He's pretending to browse in the Ancient History section while Ivory was looking at the next shelf in the biographies. Sigyn clears her throat as she approaches them, pulling a book cart over for them to duck behind as they talk. Today's the day they're getting out of here.
"Okay, so one of the officers might be onto us…" Apollo whispers.
"Great," Ivory states, clapping her hands on her knees. "We haven't even started and you already fucked up. You still have your plan, right?"
"Of course. Get in, get you, get out."
Ivory blinks because he's serious. "I'm gonna die."
"I thought of this by myself."
Sigyn smacks his chest. "No, I did."
"You were just there."
"Exactly!"
Ivory curses. "I should've stayed in solitary or just accepted death from Princess Iqadi."
Apollo and Sigyn stare at her. They didn't think they'd hear that name in here, let alone coming from Ivory.
"Iqadi is whom you were scared of meeting again out there?" Sigyn asks, remembering how Ivory got herself arrested because she had a feeling she'd get involved with someone who wanted her dead. Federal Prison became her hiding place, especially in solitary.
Ivory nods. "She looked me dead in the eyes and said she'd kill me if she ever saw me again. I've been threatened before, many times, but I believed hers. She's fucking terrifying and will go through with it with no regrets. Lucky bitch is the heir to a militaristic country so her people will probably cheer her on for it anyways. Besides, if they connect that I took advantage of Wakanda when it was vulnerable? Needless to say I won't be visiting Africa as a whole for a long time."
Apollo can't blame her. "Good call."
Ivory curses again This whole insane rescue breakout plan wasn't her idea. It's one thing to plan a prison break meticulously with two Asgardians and a fugitive kleptomaniac spy from the federal supermax. It's another to do it in real-time.
"Okay, wait…" Apollo says.
He shushes the girls as he keeps an eye on the clock. Apollo holds his breath, counting down the seconds by focusing on the second hand. He balls his hands into fists and exhales once the hand hits the 12. For a moment, nothing happens. Sigyn and Ivory are about to question it since they peered over too, but then Apollo smiles when screams and animalistic roars fail the hallways, growing louder with each moment.
It isn't until books are thrown over their heads that Sigyn and Ivory understand. Fights break out everywhere: the yard, the showers, the cafeteria, the library.
Everywhere.
"So worth all our commissaries," Apollo states as he rushes them up. "Come on."
"Apollo, the other prisoners," Sigyn says, stopping him. "The officers will kill them."
"They won't."
Ivory scoffs, rolling her eyes at his ignorance. "Why did he come up with the plan?"
"I prayed to the Gods and they promised."
Sigyn blinks. Dear gods, the worst moment to lose him. " … when have they ever listened to us?"
Apollo grabs her arm. "They'll listen to me. Not you."
He might be right.
The three of them start running through the chaos. Officers on sight are too busy dealing with direct attacks from prisoners to stop them. That strategy was the main part of Apollo's plan: keep the officers preoccupied.
"They know something is happening now," Ivory says with a small cackle.
"At least we didn't do this for nothing," Apollo states.
-o-
Alarms blare from the back of the compound, making their way to the front. Officers scramble, arming themselves and shouting orders as prisoners resist being sent back to their cells. While busy and scrambling to bring peace back to the supermax, Apollo, Sigyn, and Ivory duck as they run through the labyrinth hallways. Apollo's crayon map wouldn't be useful in this situation and they couldn't waste time looking at it and arguing over directions.
This is the riskiest part of the strategy, the part they couldn't really account for, the reckless race for the exit. Speed is more important than stealth because they were already seen.
When they turn a corner, they're faced by a barricade of officers armed in full gear. Without thinking, Apollo charges towards them as some come from behind, tackling two down, one with each arm as if he were playing football. Two of them grab Ivory and start dragging her away. She knees upwards and sends her foot down directly on one officer's calf. The bone shatters as Ivory uses that leverage to kick the same leg upwards into the second guard's neck. Nearby, Apollo is flat on the ground sandwiched between two officers. He grabs the armour of one officer he tackled and hoists him over his head like a battering ram before kicking down the legs of another one. He grabs hold of one of their tasers and fires it at them.
Off to the side, Sigyn is cornered by officers. She starts counting them with her fingers.
"One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight," she states. "Eight of you against one of me. What's a poor girl to do?"
She grins before running over. She's always relied on her magic for combat since it's her best weapon but now she only has the little training she acquired on Asgard. Besides, she managed to shank a guard with his own baton so she should be fine. Speaking of batons, when one is extended, Sigyn ducks under it as it's swung over her head. Sigyn appears in front of two guards and grips their guns, pointing them upwards as they fire. She cracks them in her fists. As the pieces fall, she smiles and winks at them. She looks ahead and sees that Ivory has acquired a shotgun so she ducks at the start on rapid gunfire, helping Apollo although he didn't need it. Without turning around, Ivory flips the gun on her shoulder and fires it backwards at any oncoming officers. When she's out of ammo, she uses it as a battering ram.
"Sigyn!" Apollo yells, breaking their cover because it didn't matter anymore. "Take it off!"
Sigyn pauses. It takes a moment for her to realize Apollo means the binding charm.
Once their area is clear, they continue running down the labyrinth. If any officer managed to make a call for backup, they'll know they're escaping because of the fight they put up and where they were. The mission is nearly over. Their little condition for not using their powers is off the table, especially in the given circumstances.
Sigyn puts her hand on the pentagram binding charm as they burst through a new set of doors but she stops when it's an empty hallway with only Officer AR164 staring right at them.
