Chapter 23 Leaving for Prom.
The movie continues from earlier, showing Carrie and Margareth in the living room facing the other.
Carrie: ''You'll say nothing, Mama''.
Carrie turns away from her mother and walks towards the stairs.
Margareth: ''And from that sin...''.
The scene changes, showing Tommy walking to the front door of the White house.
The scene changes again, this time we are shown Carrie walking as fast as she can trying to get away from her mother/outrun her with Margareth following her till the two are in the living room. All this time Margareth hasn't stopped talking towards her daughter.
The people in the room watch in silence the heated exchange between mother and daughter. Most of the people feel numb at what they had learn and say nothing, knowing what Margareth was hinting at now and not wanting to remind the poor girl of it.
Margareth: ''From that sin
was born another''.
Margareth: ''The worst sin''.
Margareth: "A man or a woman who is a witch
among you is to be put to death".
Margareth: "You are to stone them. "
Tommy Ross looks down at his hands.
He breaths through his nose, reminding himself of the cool down technique his past coach had taught him for stressfull situations.
Around him people gasp and whisper while he keeps himself focused on his breathing.
Despite knowing it is a bad idea, he looks at the screen. The image of Margareth White full on the screen. Her eyes are so full of hate for her own daughter, her madness plain for all to see and he feels all the pity he had he felt earlier for the woman disappear.
Stone them?! Fuck. If she had truly no mercy in her heart for her daughter then why didn't she kill the poor thing at birth or let her leave? Pretend she never had a daughter and let Carrie go? The woman was so confusing.
Which was not so surprising. It was becoming clearer with every passing minute that Margareth White was losing what sanity (love for her daughter?) she had.
How long would it hold before she did something she couldn't take back? His earlier conversation with Freddy comes to mind while unease fills him.
And why? Because her daughter for the first time in her life refused to stand down? Carrie wasn't hurting anyone, she simply wanted to go to a dance. Something so normal for him and his classmates while for Carrie it meant fighting tooth and nail against her mother. He hopes his future self, despite not knowing Carrie would give her an unforgettable night and be able to protect against all whom might hurt her. After all the shit she had to go through to just get that she deserves it.
Carrie finally has enough of her mothers harsh words and uses her powers to stop Margareth.
Carrie: ''I'm warning you, Mama''.
Margareth: ''The devil's hand''.
Carrie: ''Please don't do this''.
We are shown Tommy Ross backside as he walks towards the frontdoor.
Margareth: ''There will be a judgment, Carrie''.
Margareth: ''As Jezebel fell from the tower, you too...''.
''She is comparing you to fucking Jezebel?!''. Screams Ruth Gogan. Anger and disbelief in her voice.
Around her people whisper.
''Mrs Gogan, could you please stay calm''. Ask Principal Morton kindly.
He understands the girls disbelief but they sadly had to go through those scenes. Hopefully without too many interruptions for everybodies mental health.
''Sorry, Principal Morton''.
Ruth tried looking at Carrie, which was difficult because of the distance between their chairs.
''Carrie, don't listen to her alright?''
''She is wrong, you are a beautiful, strong and kind woman going to a fucking school dance''.
''You are nothing like that crazy killer, don't let her words get to you''.
The room fell quite at Ruths heartfull words and more then one head turns her way.
Ruth fell her face getting red at all the attention she received. Normally she wouldn't do crazy things like this, she unlike Hargenson and the Ultra's didn't like having everyones attention, but Carrie needed to hear it. Hear some other words then her mothers and how she had inspired Ruth with her bravery.
''You are my new hero''.
Having said what she wanted to say Ruth sits down and gets hugged by her proud parents.
Rows away from Ruth, a silent tear fell down Carrie's cheek, extremely touched by the other girls words.
Carrie looks angry and upset. She uses her powers, pushing her mother to the back of the room.
People gasp at the blunt display off power. Mr Holt and others take notes of what they are seeing.
So Mrs White can also use her powers to control people? Are all people with Telekinses capable of that or is it an display off the raw power she has? I read some things on Telekinses but never was it described like this.
She opens the prayer closet where the light inside are flickering from Carrie's use of her power. Once Margareth is inside Carrie closes the door with her powers, this time the mother instead of the daughter is locked inside the prayer closet.
The crowd looks at the screen with their mouths open. Some of them blink like they are having trouble believing what they are seeing. While most of the people look indifferent or vindictive at seeing Margareth in Carrie's position, some look a bit uneasy at seeing the roles reversed and the ease in which Carrie had taken control off the situation.
"Well that is one way to deal with her". Says George Dawson to no one in particular.
"Normally I would feel bad for her but it is like they say karma is a bitch". Says Billy in response.
No one really bought Billy's words but decided to let it slide for now.
Carrie looks horrified at what she has done but still makes sure the door is indeed closed so her mother can't get out..Still it seems like Carrie has calmed down from her earlier anger.
Agent Maggie looks at the young girls face. It was good that she felt regret for locking her mother up. It showed that she didn't enjoy the punishment she had afflicted on her mother. She didn't want to believe the girl was capable off violence and she had the right to be upset, but the fact she was able and willingly to use her powers against humans was concerning. What could they as regular humans do if she decided to use her powers against them?
Carrie: ''Mama, you're not going to say
another word until I'm gone''.
On the outside Tommy knocks on the door.
Inside the closet Margareth tries to get out, with no succes.
At the other side of the door is Carrie, her hand and head against the door in a gesture of affection.
Inside the closet Margareth keeps hitting the door, trying to get out.
Carrie: ''Mommy, I'm sorry''.
Carrie: ''I love you''.
Carrie: ''I'll be home early''.
In the closet Margareth has and continues hitting her head against the door.
Carrie heards this and looks back.
She makes sure the door is locked before walking away.
She looks beside her at the radio and turns the radio on, leaving on some music to make sure Tommy Ross doesn't hear her mother and changes it to an channel her mother likes. She drops an pink shawl around her shoulder, making her look complete.
Carrie walks to the front door. Behind her the camera zooms in on the prayer closet where you still hear Margareth trying to get out.
The camera changes angles again, showing Carrie walking towards her front door and stepping out.
Tommy stands on the porch waiting for her.
Carrie looks at the ground before getting her nerves under control and looks up at Tommy.
Carrie: ''Hi''.
Tommy:''Hi''.
Tommy looks confused at Carrie, not used to this version of her.
The people in the room awe and giggle at Tommy's reaction on Carrie's transformation.
"You see Ross, everything turns out just fine". Says Chester Miller.
"You still get to take the hottest girl to Prom".
This awards him some snickers and some people telling him to shut up.
Carrie: ''Do I look okay?''.
Tommy starts to smile in earnest and shakes his head.
Tommy: ''You look beautiful''.
"So far, so good Ross". Whispers George Dawson.
Beside Tommy Sue smiles at her boyfriend. The first true smile in the last half hour.
Carrie takes Tommy's arms and after smiling at each other walk away from the house towards the limo.
The scene changes. The new scene shows Tommy and Carrie sitting in the limo. From the looks of it they are outside the newly decorated gym.
The teens in the room watch the decorations with interest while the teachers and prom commite groan. If this showed the whole interieur they probably would have to change the design.
"You know, with the rate your powers have been growing… do you think you would be able to float the limo?" Asks Vicky Hanscome.
"Could you imagine everyones faces if you two came to Prom in a flying Limo?". Says Cindy Yang.
The mental image causes everyone to burst in laughter and a lot of people to look jealous at Carrie now, with the shock off, truly realising what she can do with her powers and the advantages it could give her.
''That would be so awesome!''
''Can you already imagine the pictures we could take?''.
''When Bolt takes you to Prom, would you please please be willingly to use your powers to lift our vehicles?''.
While most of the people look excisted about the idea, some of them mostly the parents do look a bit hestitate at the thought of their children in flying vehicles controlled by their classmate.
Carrie looks a bit overwhelmed by all the attention, but does hold her head up.
''I have to think about it''.
''I would have to have a good enough control over my powers before I would attempt something like that''.
''... I don't want anyone to end up hurt''.
Carrie's response seems to calm most of the people in the room. Mrs Desjardin and some of the other teachers and adults around her look proud at her grown up response.
Carrie's response also sets of the population of Ewen High and students start talking with each other in excitement.
Carrie: ''Tommy, can we wait a minute''?.
Tommy: ''Yeah, sure,
we can wait as long as you want''.
Mr and Mr Ross look at their son, proud of the young men they have raised.
Carrie looks outside the window.
Tommy: ''Are you scared?''
Tommy:''They're not that bad''.
Multiple students and adults look at Tommy in disbelief.
''Oh Tommy'' Signs Mrs Snell and Mrs Ross at her daughters boyfriends/sons innocent.
Or attempt to encourage Carrie to go inside with him? Eleanor Snell isn't sure.
Before all of this she probably would have agreed with him, but after what she had seen she didn't think so.
Flashes of the girls throwing tampons at Carrie and Chris Hargenson killing the pig go through her mind.
Mrs Ross and Mrs Snell notices that while no one is saying anything, they are all looking at Mrs Hargenson.
''Yeah, yeah I am a bitch I know it''. Says Chris Hargenson.
At least she admitted it. That was progress thought both woman while they tried to comfort their children as best as they could.
Tommy: ''Besides, I need you in there''.
Tommy:''Dancing by myself all night,I'd look awful silly''.
He does a silly dance, demonstrating how he would look all alone on the dancefloor.
The room giggles.
Tommy looks at Carrie and leans towards her.
Tommy: ''Here, let me fix this''.
He takes off her coursage.
''Hey Ross, watch those hands''. Yells Freddy DeLois.
Tommy turns around to look at him.
''I am only helping Carrie''.
''I don't want to give you guys more reasons to make fun of her''.
This shuts up Freddy and other guys who are making comments.
''Not cool men''.
Tommy: ''I think this is supposed to go on your wrist''.
Tommy helps Carrie putting on her coursage on her wrist.
Tommy: ''There''.
Tommy: ''Are you ready?''.
Hey everyone! Well here is the next chapter like promised. I am deeply sorry for the longer wait time and scaring people in thinking I had abandoned this story. The truth is this was supposed to be an extra long chapter but things have been hectic the last months. Work was very demanding and one my dogs recently died... but enough about that. I meant what I said I do plan on finishing this so you don't have to worry about me abandoning this. I hope you all like this chapter and I will start working on the next one/part 2 of this as soon as I can!
