Chapter 18:
Ranger filled out Stephanie's discharge papers and signed them when Stephanie's cell phone rang, "Hello mom, I am sorry I could not make it to dinner last night." Stephanie told her.
"All that matters is that you are healthy. You and that man can try again to get a new baby," Helen told her.
"Mom, how did you know I lost the baby?" Stephanie asked her. Ranger looked at Stephanie with a raised eyebrow.
"Your husband's brother Chris told me, but that should not concern you now. You just get better, so the two of you can try again." Helen said, then hung up the phone.
"Carlos, we have a problem," Stephanie told her husband.
"Let's get you home, and you can tell me there," Ranger said as he helped Stephanie out of the hospital and got into a Rangeman SUV. Ranger looked at his wife, " What did your mom want, Babe?" Carlos asked his wife.
"She wanted me to know that all that mattered was health and that we could try for another baby sometime. She also told me that it was Chris, your brother, who told her that I lost the baby." Stephanie told her husband.
"Well then, how the hell does Chris know your mom?" Carlos asked his babe.
"I don't know. Maybe we should ask him?" Stephanie smiled at him and added, "Carlos, my spidey sense is going off. Something is going to happen."
Carlos looked at his wife quickly and then drove to their house. When they arrived, Carlos saw his mom, Chris, and his dad there.
"I see what you mean," Carlos said, and then they parked and got out of the SUV.
"Momma, you did not have to come tonight, but I do have a question for Chris. How do you know Helen Plum, and why did you tell her about Stephanie losing the baby?" Carlos snapped at his younger brother.
"She found out who I was and then started to ask me all kinds of questions about you. She said that she could help me break you and Stephanie up." Chris said as he lowered his head.
"Pop, do you understand now? Helen Plum is not a nice person and will do anything to ensure she will get her way. She will not let anybody stop her from getting what she wants." Carlos snapped at his dad.
"Chris, how could you do this to your brother? Carlos, I am so sorry. I did not realize that Helen Plum would stoop so low." Tim told his oldest boy.
"I want the three of you gone. I have to take care of Stephanie for now." Carlos growled at them.
"We are truly sorry, Carlos?" Tim told his son that they had gotten into the car and left. Carlos shook his head, who was standing close to him. He took out the keys to his house and let them in. Once they were inside. He closed the door and locked it. "Carlos looked at his wife, picked her up, and carried her upstairs. "Carlos, we can't have sex yet. You do remember that, right?" Stephanie told him as she looked at her husband as he put her gently in the bed.
"I do remember that, babe, but I was so scared that I was going to lose you. So please let me take care of you." Carlos told her softly.
"I would love that, Carlos, and I love you. We do have to stop Chris, Shanna, and my mom." Stephanie told him.
"We will, babe, I promise you, but right now, I need to take care of you." Carlos laid down next to Stephanie and held her until she was asleep.
