After a stifling silence, Brooke looks at Peyton and Jake, who are standing on their her side, watching over her with a tenderness and concern that touches her deeply.
Brooke : I have something to ask you two.
Peyton : Of course, sweetheart. Whatever you need, we're here.
Brooke : I don't want... anyone to know about my pregnancy. Not yet, anyway.
Jake : I understand, and I promise. Nothing will come out of here.
Peyton : You don't have to worry. I'll keep this a secret, until you're ready to share it. Okay?
Brooke : Thank you... really.
A peaceful silence falls over the room, but it's quickly interrupted by a soft knock on the door. Brooke turns her head and sees Lucas standing in the doorway, his gaze hesitant, as if he's afraid of disturbing.
Lucas : Can I... come in?
Brooke nods, surprised to see him here. He walks into the room, his hands in his pockets, his features drawn with a worry he doesn't even try to hide.
Lucas : I'm really sorry about... the way I broke the news to you. I... I should have done it differently. I didn't know... I didn't know what your relationship with Julian was. All I knew was that you were coming to see him, so I thought... well, I was clumsy. Forgive me.
Brooke : I'm the one who's sorry. I... I didn't react, I... I still can't believe he's... gone.
Lucas approaches her, crouching down so that their eyes are on the same level.
Lucas : He was my little brother, you know. Sometimes, I still don't believe it's real. He was so... he was everything to me.
His voice breaks, and Brooke feels a wave of infinite sadness pass through his gaze. She looks at him, trying to understand the man before her, who shares this immense pain, this loss that he knows in a different but equally devastating way.
Brooke : I understand... Julian was someone really special.
Lucas : I know it might not be much, but... when you get out of here, I'd like you to come spend a day at the ranch. I... I'd like to show you what Julian loved, his daily life, his passions... maybe it could... bring you closer to him, in some way.
Brooke : Do you really want me to come to the ranch?
Lucas : Yeah. I think it could... it could maybe bring you some peace. And besides, it would also make me feel good to share this with someone who understood.
Peyton and Jake exchange a look, as if they understand the importance of this moment. They stand up silently, shaking Brooke's hand before slipping away discreetly to give them some privacy. Brooke looks at Lucas, touched by his presence, by his willingness to share a little of her brother with her.
Brooke : Thank you. Thank you for being here, for wanting to help me understand... what he loved so much.
Lucas : You're not alone in this, Brooke. Julian... Julian would have wanted you to know that you're part of this family, in a way. And I want to honor that.
A tear wells up in Brooke's eyes, but this time, it carries a little hope, a feeling of not being totally alone, despite everything.
Brooke : Then yes. You can count on me. I'll come to the ranch.
Lucas extends his hand to her, and without thinking, Brooke takes it. His hand is warm, reassuring, and she feels a strange sense of calm, as if, in a way, this promise brings her a little closer to Julian. Lucas looks at her for a moment longer, then finally lets go of her hand. His smile, sweet but sad, warms Brooke despite everything.
Lucas : So... rest well. I'll see you soon, at the ranch.
Brooke : Thanks, Lucas. See you soon.
He nods before walking out of the room, leaving her alone.
A few moments pass, and the door opens again to let Peyton and Jake in, accompanied by the doctor. The doctor smiles at Brooke, reassuringly.
Doctor : Good evening, miss. How are you feeling?
Brooke : A little... exhausted, but okay.
Doctor : We're going to keep you overnight for observation, just to make sure everything's okay. You've been under a lot of stress these past few days, it's best to monitor your condition.
Peyton and Jake exchange a look, then Peyton takes Brooke's hand, a worried expression in her eyes.
Peyton : You don't have to worry, Brooke. We'll be there tomorrow to pick you up.
Brooke : Thank you... Thank you both for being here.
Peyton : You know we're here for you, sweetheart.
Doctor : You're going to rest, and tomorrow, we'll take stock of your condition. Don't worry, it's nothing serious.
Brooke : Very well, doctor.
Peyton and Jake kiss Brooke each on the cheek before heading for the door, their gazes filled with an affection that warms her heart despite everything. Brooke watches them leave, and the room becomes silent, almost too silent. Loneliness sets in, but strangely, it is softened by the prospect of finding a little of Julian through what Lucas wants to show her. Brooke slowly lies down, staring at the ceiling, and her thoughts drift to Julian. It is as if, somewhere, this pain will gradually transform into a form of peace, a way of maintaining a connection with him, for her and for the child to come. The door closes gently behind Peyton and Jake, and Brooke finds herself alone, in the soothing silence of the hospital room. The tumult of the last few hours fades, giving way to a strange serenity. She takes a deep breath, letting her gaze wander over the pale walls for a moment, before looking down at her stomach. Slowly, almost instinctively, she places a trembling hand on her stomach. The warmth of his gesture moves her more than she would have thought.
Brooke : I'm sorry you'll never get to know your father... but I promise you, my little treasure, that everything will be okay. I'll do anything to protect you, to love you... like he would have wanted. We'll find our way, you and I. I don't know exactly how yet, but we will get there. I promise you.
In that moment, she feels a strange strength, a deep, powerful bond that begins to form. It's as if, despite the pain and the trials, this little being inside her is the light she's been looking for.
Brooke : You're here, and I'll do anything for you. For us.
Brooke closes her eyes, squeezing her hand a little tighter on her stomach, letting that promise flow gently into her thoughts and her heart.
