The next morning, as promised, Peyton and Jake come to pick up Brooke. The daylight streaming through the windows of the hospital room seems softer than usual. Maybe it's the idea of what Lucas had suggested, or the warmth of her friends by her side, but she feels a little stronger. Peyton helps Brooke put on her coat, her gaze on her is reassuring.

Peyton : Are you sure you're ready to get out of here? If you need more time...

Brooke : No, I think now is the time. Besides, I have... something important to do.

Jake : Something important?

Brooke : I'm going to spend some time at Julian's ranch. Lucas invited me. He wants to show me... Julian's daily life, what he liked to do. I think I need it.

Peyton exchanges a look with Jake, her face crossed by an emotion that Brooke can't decipher.

Peyton : If that's what you feel, then go ahead. We'll be there, no matter what.

Jake : Besides, it'll give you memories to share... when you're ready.

He glances meaningfully at Brooke's stomach, and she feels the emotion overwhelm her for a moment.

Brooke : Thank you, both of you. You're... incredible. I'm lucky to have you.

After leaving the hospital, Brooke spends a few hours with Peyton and Jake, resting before going to the ranch. Then, early in the afternoon, she decides to leave. Peyton walks her to the car.

Peyton : Brooke, if this ever gets too much for you, if you feel overwhelmed... just call me, okay? No matter what time it is, I'll be there.

Brooke takes her hand, squeezing it to let her know how much her presence soothes her.

Brooke : Thank you, Peyton. I promise.

Peyton hugs Brooke for a moment, then Brooke gets in the car. The drive to the ranch seems long, but she feels a kind of calm invade her as she approaches the place Julian loved so much. When she arrives, Lucas is waiting for her near the entrance. He motions for her to get out and comes to meet her, his face marked with sincere kindness.

Lucas : Hi, Brooke. How was the drive?

Brooke : Good, thanks. I'm glad to see you.

Lucas : I'm glad you're here too... really. It touches me that you want to know more about Julian.

They walk together towards the ranch, and Lucas explains to Brooke how Julian spent his days here, surrounded by horses, fields, and mountains of chores that he loved to do despite everything.

Lucas : He loved what he did. When he talked about the ranch, he had this... this spark in his eye.

Brooke : I remember that spark, yeah. I saw it... even if it was just for a few days, it was there.

Lucas : He spoke very little about the people around him, but... I remember one day he told me he had met someone important... I knew it came from the heart. And today, I understand why. I understand it was you.

The silence settles, heavy with meaning, but Lucas breaks this pause with a smile.

Lucas : Come, I'll show you the stable. It was Julian's favorite place.

Inside, the smell of hay and leather fills the air. Lucas strokes the neck of a powerful black horse that approaches Brooke, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

Lucas : This is Diablo. Julian's favorite horse. He spent hours with him, he was his traveling companion here.

Brooke approaches, shyly, and Diablo turns his head towards her, his deep gaze piercing her.

Brooke : Hello, Diablo.

The horse gently pushes its head against her palm, and Brooke's heart tightens at the thought of Julian. Lucas watches this scene, moved.

Lucas : I think he likes you already.

Brooke : I wish... Julian was here to show me all this himself. To... to be there for...

Lucas : Brooke... I don't want to intrude, but if you need anything... I'm here, okay? Julian may not be here anymore, but that doesn't mean you have to do this alone. We were his family and we'll be here if you need us.

Brooke : Thank you, Lucas... I... it's hard to accept, but knowing that you're here... it really helps.

Lucas : You know, Julian was amazing, and trust me, I'm not just saying that because he was my brother. He had this huge heart, and this love for life...

Brooke : I wish he was here to share all of this. I had so much to tell him...

Lucas walks Brooke out of the ranch. The sun is starting to set, turning the horizon golden and orange. A light breeze rustles the grass in the fields, and the cool air calms Brooke a little.

Lucas : I'm going to go get a snack. Do you want anything in particular?

Brooke : No, thanks. Take your time, I'll enjoy the fresh air while you go get that.

Lucas : Okay. I won't be long.

He gives her one last smile before walking away in the direction of the house. Brooke stays there, leaning against a wooden railing, observing the fields in front of her. The horses graze peacefully in the distance, and the smell of earth and hay reminds her of the simplicity of life here. She understands why Julian loved this place. He loved living here, far from the chaos, close to nature. But reality quickly catches up with her. The void he left is deep, and every moment reminds her of it. She gets lost in her thoughts when, suddenly, a female voice calls out to her.

Karen : Excuse me, are you Brooke?

Brooke jumps slightly before turning around. A brunette woman, about forty years old, stands before her. She has a calm, almost majestic air. Her gaze is piercing, and she smiles at her softly.

Brooke : Yes, it's me. Can I help you?

Karen : I'm Karen, Julian and Lucas' mother.

Brooke : Karen... I... I didn't know you were here. Lucas didn't tell me anything.

Karen : I'm glad to meet you, Brooke. Julian told me a lot about you.

Brooke : Really? He... he told you about me?

Karen : Yes. He often talked to me about you, about how much he cared for you. My son really liked you. He was happy with you, I could see it in his eyes. He was... he really was in love with you...

His last word hits Brooke like a wave, and she closes her eyes for a moment, feeling tears well up in her eyes. She suddenly realizes how much she misses him, how much he would have liked to be there for all of this. She involuntarily places her hand on her stomach. An automatic gesture, as if to remind herself that, even in his absence, a part of Julian lives in her. Karen notices his gesture and her gaze softens even more. She takes a step closer, her eyes settling on Brooke's belly with curiosity mixed with kindness.

Karen : Are... are you pregnant?

Brooke stands there frozen for a few seconds, the world around her seeming to stand still. Karen, noticing her hesitation, waits patiently for her answer. Brooke's heart is beating fast, and she knows that this is an important moment, that she must tell her the truth, even if it breaks her a little more with each word.

Brooke : Yes. I'm carrying Julian's child.

The silence that follows is heavy, almost palpable. Karen stands there, her eyes fixed on her, and Brooke sees a mixture of sadness and understanding in her gaze. She says nothing for a few seconds, then moves closer to Brooke, as if she wants to support her in this fragile moment.

Karen : Julian would have been... so happy. I'm sure he would have been a wonderful father.

Brooke closes her eyes for a moment, letting herself be invaded by this sweet truth. Julian, although gone, would have loved this moment. He wished he could be there, to see his child grow up, to love him like he loved him.

Karen : We're here for you, Lucas and I. We'll always be there, for you and for this child.

Brooke : Thank you. Thank you for everything. I... I didn't know how to tell his family.

Karen : You have a family here. And Julian, even though he's gone, will always live on in this child's heart and in yours.

Brooke nods, tears now silent on her cheeks. Karen looks at her for a moment with such understanding that Brooke feels like she sees more in her than she'd like. But she also knows that this moment is part of her healing journey.

Brooke : It's nice to meet you, Karen. And thank you for... for everything.

Karen : Take care, Brooke. And remember, Lucas and I will always be here, for you and your baby.

As Brooke watches her slowly walk away, she places her hand on her stomach once more, feeling the emotions mix, but also a little peace. A bond has formed today, a bond she hoped will guide her in the days to come.
