Chapter 13:

June 9:

Kim was sitting in her desk at her cubicle with Sarah Essen. "Everyone who would've ordered Branden or Loeb up on charges remains unavailable to me by appointment or phone… as has my prime suspect in this case—Ron Stoppable, the richest man in the try-state area. And my best friend." Kim thought. A coffee mug that was A gift from Ron was in her hand. Fresh brewed coffee. The mug said world's greatest Detective with her former logo on it.

"Sergeant Essen reminded me that Ron's parents were murdered by A mugger when we were in high school. That's enough motives, I suppose, to make A man dress like Dracula and assault criminals." Kim thought. Taking A sip of coffee.

"And save cats. Unfortunately Ron's executive assistant informed me that her boss has been skiing in Switzerland for six weeks. Makes since because he has not been by the house in A while." Kim thought. Kim can't remember the last time Ron went to visit them. She has been occupied with the Batman case for the last few weeks.

"I squeezed permission for an international call from Captain Pierce. I've had easier root canals—you'd think Pierce was paying for the call out of his own pocket. And I spoke to somebody in Switzerland who said he was Ron." Kim thought. Maybe she should have talked to Wade to check on Ron.

"Then told me he'd taken A nasty spill on the slopes—broken both legs and one arm. That sounds like Ron. But assured me he'd be back in the country in A month. Said he'd be happy to talk with me. Laughed when I mentioned Batman. Asked me for A autograph. Again sounds like Ron." Kim thought. Putting the office phone back in the hook.

"Stoppable could afford an impersonator—and casts on his arm and legs would cover bullet wounds—exactly where batman received them." Sarah Essen said. Giving her partner A look that latterly said have you lost your mind. Kim could not believe that she would even think that her best friend would even play her like that.

"I'm sorry, Essen. Did you say something?" Kim asked her. Giving her A dirty look. Her partner ignored her. Looking at her watch. "Yes Ma'am. It's quitting time. Share A cab?" Sarah Essen asked. "No thank you Essen. I will take my car." Kim said. Grabbing her things and going home.

June 15:

Ron was skiing in Switzerland at night:

"I leave the cast and the sleeping alibis back at the lodge." Ron thought. Skiing to clear his head. "They were so eager to support my story with KP—all I had to say was that A woman was involved." Ron thought. "One of them even pretended to be me, just for laughs, before I arrived." Ron thought. "The air is cold and sharp and hard to breathe—it's good to be alive." Ron thought. Dodging A tree.

"I don't deserve to be alive. This is not A game. I can't afford mistakes. I have to learn to make it work—step by step—method by method." Ron thought. Going through A bump. "That won't be enough. Too many people want me dead. I can't do it alone." Ron thought. "I need an ally—an inside man. I need KP. On my side." Ron thought. Coming to A stop. And going back to the lodge.

June 17:

Kim and her partner are having A late diner at A diner. It is A raining night. "It's getting to be A habit for Essen and I to have A cup of coffee at the local diner before calling it A night." Kim thought. Drinking her coffee and eating her donut. "Actually, I'm the only one who has coffee—she goes for herb tea—she'd qualify as A health nut if she didn't use E-cigarettes vaping." Kim thought. Taking A bite of her donut after ducking it in her coffee cup.

"We stay longer tonight, hoping to wait out the rain. We run out of shop talk, but keep going." Kim thought. "Turns out her first name is Sarah and her family is from Germany, A generation back. She's got A thing about the bad rap that Germans generally get." Kim thought. Finishing her donut.

"She got into law enforcement after being told she was too masculine for about six other careers. I know what's that feels like." Kim thought. Remembering how afraid she was of the boys at school like Eric thinking that she was not beautiful enough for them and scaring them away. She was always afraid of pure pressure. Not anymore thanks to Ron.

The rain stops and both women pay the bill and grab their things and start walking out of the diner. "The rain's eased up and I'm an hour late and feeling terrible about having forgotten to call mom when we decide to risk it and look for A cab." Kim thought. Both women walk to where they could get A taxi for Sarah Essen. "A group of bikers notice are legs and make the usual remarks." Kim thought. Both secretly enjoying the attention. "We ignore them and keep walking." Kim thought.

"Turns out she's from Chicago, some years back. Try-state area weather. Just when the rain seems to be clearing up, lightning flashes." Kim thought. The two woman run under A door with A roof to take shelter from the rain. "And we learn how Noah felt. Not having an ark, we settle for A doorway." Kim thought. Seeing A cab coming Kim get's the drivers attention. "A cab comes. She takes it. We say good night." Kim thought.

Again the rain stops and Kim walks back to where she parked her car. Driving home Kim takes the time to clear her head. "I hate this city. I hate myself and the night and everything it brings. Especially Batman. He's A criminal. I'm A cop. It's that simple. But—but I'm A cop in A city where the Mayer and the Commissioner of police use cops as hired killers. He saved that old woman. He saved that cat. He even paid for that suit." Kim thought. Arriving at home Kim goes to her room and gets ready for bed.

September 1:

University of Upperton:

Andrea was walking around the dorm room apartments with Kim. The two redhead women were waiting for A suv with A moving trailer to arrive. They heard a car horn peeping. When they turned to the sound they saw the suv that they were waiting for. Two brown haired, blue eyes, tall and strapping young boys with large smiles of boyish charms on their faces came out.

Timothy Possible was wearing red T-shirt, blue pants, and white shoes. James Possible JR was wearing green T-shirt, tan pants, and white shoes. Kim's twin brothers got excepted into the University last year when they graduated from High school. The two boys both wanted to be as far away from their father and closer to their mother and older sister. Like them they hated their father for what he did to their mother.

Andrea and Kim went to hug the boys. All four of them happy to see each other. The boys asked where Ron was but Kim said that he was busy at work. They were sad that their big brother in everything but name was not there to say hello. But Andrea said that they would all get together for dinner later. They started unloading the trailer and going up to the boys dorm room. Luck was on their side that they both got into the same room together. What the four did not know was that Ron donated money to the University and asked for A favor for his two little brothers.

September 2:

Kim was enjoying her day off with her mom. Watching tv hearing about the latest about the Batman. "Hero cop lieutenant Kim Possible today apprehended notorious narcotics dealer Jefferson Skeevers. It looks like Possible's out to set A record. She's caught A big fish this time. If Skeevers is convicted, this'll be the fourth time he goes to prison. Bet they throw away the key." Summer Gleeson said. Andrea could not be more proud of her daughter. Both her and Wade have been doing A great job cleaning up the streets. With the Batman's help of course. Not the Kim would admit it.

September 10:

"Judge Rafferty set bail for Jefferson Skeevers. Surprisingly assistant district attorney did not argue with this decision." Summer Gleeson said. Kim was in the assistant district attorney office arguing with him. "I know you aren't on the take—and I don't think you're crazy—so tell me why you let them let Skeevers out on the street?" Kim asked. Yelling at the ADA. "I understand how you feel, Lieutenant. Would you like to borrow my umbrella?" the ADA asked. Kim could tell that he was trying to tell her something, but she could not figure it out. So she played along. "No thank you. I have my own." Kim said. it was raining outside.

September 11:

Kim just found out that her partner Sarah Essen has requested A transfer. She's leaving the try-state area for personal reason. Meanwhile Kim found out that Skeevers is staying at A hotel and she is in her car staking out the place. She never noticed Batman climbing up the wall of the building.

"No. No. none of that. You stay clean until we've gotten you off." The defense attorney said. She was talking to her client. "Don't sweat it, babe. Just A couple of lines." Jefferson Skeevers said. Talking to his attorney. Batman was close enough to the window that he could hear everything. "Possible is hot for you, Skeevers. They'd love to catch you with your pants down." The defense attorney said. "Catch me? They caught me, babe—and they let me go. And you got me A court order tying Possible's hands." Jefferson Skeevers said.

Batman is just under the window. "I mean, I'd be sweating, babe—if it wasn't for our cop. They nail me and I talk about Du—and maybe Du talks about Commissioner Loeb." Jefferson Skeevers said. "You say one word about Du and they'll kill both of us, Skeevers. Now take that thing out of your nose and listen to me." The defense attorney said.

Inside the hotel room:

"Just A couple of lines." Jefferson Skeevers said. "Snff." "Where do I start. Bad enough that you're black. I want you in A blue suit at the inquest. With A tie. Make it black. Same for the shoes. None of that pimp stuff. And when you smile at the jury, make it nice. Particularly the women." The Defense attorney said. "I smile at them okay." Jefferson Skeevers said. "Just remember they've still got their clothes on." The defense attorney said. opening the door and walking out into the hallway.

Outside the window:

Hearing the defense attorney leave Batman took out his lock pick and opened the window. He sneaked inside the hotel room getting ready to talk to Skeevers. "Close the window." Jefferson Skeevers said. All of A sudden Batman tackled him to the ground. On his stomach. Twisting his arm. "skkrasshh." "What the hell?" the defense attorney asked. Walking back to the front door. "Skeevers. You all right?" the defense attorney asked. Nocking on the door.

"I'm fine." Jefferson Skeevers said. Inside the hotel room Batman is on top of him. Skeevers under him with fear in his eyes. "Better lay off that coke. Bad on the nerves." The defense attorney said. walking away from the front door and to the elevators. Batman waited until she left and then continued to talk to Skeevers.

"You can never escape me." Batman said. Skeevers tried to reach out for his gun that was in his pocket. "Bullets don't harm me. Nothing harms me." Batman said. breaking Skeevers hand. "But I know pain. I know pain." Batman said. showing Skeevers all of the pain points that the body has. Each one more painful than the last. "Sometimes I share it. With someone like you." Batman said. Skeevers eyes opening wide with all of the pain he is feeling.
