Countdown To Destiny-Ch 3

The next morning everybody got up and spent a delightful morning together as they enjoyed a lite breakfast of coffee, fresh donuts and muffins before they grabbed their things and said their goodbyes to their family before heading back home to get back into the flow so to speak of their normal lives.

Penelope had agreed to move in with Derek so their plans for the rest of the week was to get her things boxed up and ready to move to his place, the family had offered to help them box up her stuff, she told them no but told them that if they wanted to they could help her move one everything else was done, to which they agreed.

Derek had spent the 28th, 29th and 30th at Penelope's helping to get her stuff boxed up, Paul and Patrick were back to work and being bombarded with patients because during the holidays a lot of people drink and either hurt themselves or other people, all of which were ending up in the ER.

It was the 30th of December, tomorrow was New Year's Eve so they decided that they would load the back of his truck and take a load of her stuff to her new home, she followed closely behind Derek in Ester, she couldn't leave her baby behind, it had been with her since she was 16 years old.

Derek hugged her and said, "be careful", she said, "always handsome, always", he then watched her get behind the wheel of her car, put the key into the ignition and start the car before he pulled out, he could then see her pull out behind him, he grinned and then turned left so that they could turn onto the main road.

Penelope was listening to the radio, something about how there was a chance of snow for New Years, she laughed and said, "againnnnn", she was now sitting at the stop sign, she could see Derek on up ahead, the road had been clear for him so he'd already crossed the road and was ready to turn onto the main road.

She looked left and then looked right and put her foot on the gas to pull out smoothly and out of nowhere a car came barrelling at her at like 50 to 60 miles an hour, one second she saw bright lights and then she said, "noooooooooooo" and everything went dark as she was pulled into the abyss of nothingness.

Derek who had seen the accident happen quickly called the police and the team as he made his way to his baby girl, the intersection quickly filled with people as they worked to check on both Penelope and the drunk man that could have killed them both.

Derek reached into her car and took her hand in his and said, "sweetness, sweetness can you hear me?", he got no response but he could see that she was breathing because her chest was going up and down, he said, "hang on sweetness, hang on, help is on the way, they're coming".

In the distance the sound of multiple sirens filled the air and all Derek could do was hope and pray that they made it in time to save the love of his life, his baby girl, his future bride, his everything.
