"Hey, I might actually move here. It looks quite livable." I yell to the others while looking towards the farmhouse.
"Yeah, it does and I might have to buy it before you do." Sophie responded as she started to walk over.
"It sucks though since we're not old enough to buy a house yet old enough to work the police and go into the mines. I mean Oliver is 18, so he is old enough. The rest of us are 16. Isn't this child endangerment, sending us into the mines?" Ace spoke up, mostly with more questions on the way.
"Seems like it but we have Oliver. He can protect us in the mines. He's our babysitter." Ezra adds in on the conversation. "With him, we will all be safe."
To be fair, we were part of a small group of applicants that fit the requirements other than age. Majority of the adults have their current jobs as well as most of the teenagers. The few of us teenagers who didn't have jobs saw an opportunity and took it to hand in a resume.
"Shouldn't we be heading back to the police station?" Asks Sophie.
"Not yet. I think we still have an hour left to finish this." I respond. "We need to see if we have anything we have work on. I mean we do need a bit longer to do any repairs and do changes that are necessary."
"True. There are things that do need to be repaired but right now I would move because so far, we did great. Maybe we can ask of can have another month to work on this while exploring the mine every time we finish for the day." Oliver speaks up, adding to the ongoing conversation.
" Hey, maybe while we are in the mine, we might find a way to the village. You know the one with the old factory and Victorian castle." Ezra mentions.
" Yeah, and by the looks of it, people still live there. There is smoke come from their every day. It is probably the smoke from fireplaces." Ace tells us, something that may not be far off. There is smoke coming from there but there is multiple smoke sources, so it less likely that they need help, well I hope they aren't in danger.
The sound of sticks breaking became common as we race back to the police station. For the past month Oliver beat us all in the races and both Ezra and Sophie have become more competitive while Liam, Ace and I race against each other knowing we will never beat Oliver in one of the races. Though us three always bear the other three in a race to finish a hole since they aren't fans of hikes, so it is a win-win situation for us. Luckily the races are one the fun things that came out other than rebuilding the old farmhouse. Thankfully we did redraw most of the map of the mine so it wasn't in coal dust. I mean the old was great but it was way past repair and was destroyed from years of staying in the mine and from lots.
The police station always looked like an unusual sight when coming from the forest. From there it looked like a motel that wasn't a safe place to be in until you were in town and got a good look at the place. The food makes it a tad bit better. The people are decent enough to make the workplace an interesting 0lace to work. Most of the older guys do absolutely nothing, so that makes me wonder why they do this job themselves. My guess is that they have a fear of mines and dying or just scared of going into the mine.
We silently agreed that we should meet up at the mine tomorrow morning during our scheduled work hours to try just to go find which one of the mine shafts lead to the village. I mean who doesn't like an adventure and make a discovery, though the downside would be that it would hours just to get there. But that's the mystery of it. The rest of the group and I split up and head home to get some sleep.
