INT./EXT. TRANSFORMED RUINS - DAY
Sonic comes to a brights ruins. There is darkness on the horizon as the Empire hasn't transformed this area quite yet.
SONIC
Wow. Green grass that changes to
have a ruins on it. Am I getting
deja vu or is that just me?
He weaves through the stone roads and pillars as if he's been there before. Large architecture catches his eye.
SONIC (CONT'D)
A temple? There could be something
here. Better check it out.
He goes inside the building and is greeted by the remains of a previous time.
SONIC (V.O.)
Where there people here at some
point? What happened here?
He cautiously inspects the area. He peaks over a pile of fractured stone to find a younger girl sitting there afraid. She has a green sweater with an orange skirt and white shoes. She has green eyes and quills like him with short, bright pink hair.
SONIC
You've got quite the fashion sense.
She gets scared but gasps when she looks up.
YOUNG GIRL
It's you! You came to save us!
She gets up and hugs Sonic tightly.
SONIC
What do you mean us?
YOUNG GIRL
It was so horrible Blue! Me and my
mom came to see Little Planet.
SONIC
So did I. Guess we both wanted to
be lucky and see history. Well I
wouldn't say lucky anymore.
YOUNG GIRL
When we got here the bad man beat
us to it! He took us here but I
managed to escape.
SONIC
The Doc got to you? That just gives
me another reason to pound his face
in.
YOUNG GIRL
I remember the day we saw you on
TV.
SONIC
You did? Where are you from anyway?
YOUNG GIRL
We live on the West Side.
SONIC
The news got that far?
YOUNG GIRL
Everyone on the islands knows your
face Blue.
SONIC
That's not reassuring in the
slightest. Who are you anyway?
AMY (YOUNG GIRL)
I'm Amy Rose. I've been wondering
every day if I would get a chance
to meet my hero. You're the cutest
boy I've ever laid eyes on.
SONIC
Cute. Sonic Hill. But don't tell
anyone that.
AMY
Why not?
SONIC
Because if anyone knows, especially
Eggman, than my life is over.
AMY
Oh, so Blue is like a secret
identity?
SONIC
In a sense yeah.
AMY
Can I have one too?
SONIC
Fine. How about Rosy the Rascal?
She gets excited.
AMY
It's perfect! We have our own names
and no one will know.
Sonic looks over Amy's shoulder and sees something.
SONIC
Where'd you get that?
AMY
Oh this? I found by the temple when
I was hiding.
She picks up a blue diamond from the ground and shows him. Sonic takes it.
SONIC
You found a Chaos Emerald? This is
great.
AMY
What's that gem for?
SONIC
Long story short, magic rock. I
didn't think I was going to find
another one.
AMY
So I got to help you? That's
amazing! I get to have credit when
you save the day.
SONIC
Anyway I need to get going. I've
got to save the day.
AMY
Wait! Sonic please you have to save
my mom.
SONIC
I was going to do that anyway.
AMY
I don't know where she is. You
might have to find her first.
SONIC
Great. So cracking the eggshells
might not be enough. Listen, stay
safe. I don't want anything bad to
happen.
AMY
Don't worry, I'm safe around you. I
knew we were going to meet one day.
This won't be the only time.
Sonic turns and leaves the ruined temple and goes off.
INT./EXT. CRYSTAL MINE - DAY
Large quartz crystals line the area long with entrances to mine shafts. Machinery is set up to mine and harvest. The other side of the mountains from the canyon are visible in the background.
SONIC
I can't thank Amy enough for
finding another Emerald. I feel
great. Faster, stronger, better
than myself. But this one isn't
telling me where to go. What's Ivo
using this place for anyway? Maybe
he's selling the crystals to make
more money for his lifelong goal of
world domination. It's been weirdly
quiet for a while now. Anything
could be a trap.
Soon he finds another one of the generators.
SONIC (CONT'D)
Another one of these things? As
long as Eggman keeps making them
I'll keep breaking them!
He goes to attack it but the machine opens and traps Sonic in a force field. A light goes over scanning him. He is released and drops to the ground.
DR. ROBOTNIK
You know what they say, third
time's the charm!
SONIC
Dammit, played me like a fiddle.
Sonic gets up. Ivo is standing on top of part of the mine.
DR. ROBOTNIK
I was sure you'd fall for the
oldest trick in the book.
Sonic jumps towards the Doctor.
SONIC
I would't call it the oldest. What
do you need me for anyway?
He gets knocked back down by a Buzz-Bomber who shoots at him. Each of the other three badniks come out.
SONIC (CONT'D)
Oh look! A surprise party! So this
is what I get for beating your
buddies.
Sonic goes to attack one and the other three gang up on him.
SONIC (CONT'D)
Since when did you guys start being
competent?
He fights them off but each one keeps fighting.
DR. ROBOTNIK
I spend a lot of time learning and
studying you. This is only the
second trap I set up.
Sonic jumps around dodging attacks.
SONIC
Oh goodie! You set up a hamster
wheel because you love me so much!
DR. ROBOTNIK
Your data is being used to power up
all of my weapons.
DR. ROBOTNIK (CONT'D)
Your own abilities are being used
against you.
SONIC
Have you ever been told 'no'
before? The only thing you want is
more power. I can imagine your mom
said 'No Ivo, you have to go to bed
dear. Your evil dictatorship can
wait 'till morning.'
DR. ROBOTNIK
Your insults don't work here. Let's
see how you handle this!
A Crabmeat pins sonic to the ground as he tries to break free. A Newtron starts beating him.
SONIC
Get off of me!
He breaks free and smashes the badniks into each other.
SONIC (CONT'D)
That didn't even do damage!
A Motobug drives around much faster while the Buzz-Bomber keeps firing. Sonic can't evade fast enough and gets knocked around.
SONIC (CONT'D)
Hey bolt brain! Why don't we go for
a race?
Sonic runs down into one of the mine shaft entrances. All four badniks pursue. He gets the Motobug right behind him and stops on a ledge. The badnik rolls off into a pit. The Buzz-Bomber dives but Sonic grabs it. He drops the Emerald.
DR. ROBOTNIK
What's this? This gem didn't come
from the mine. He had it making it
important. And now it's mine. It's
like taking candy from a baby.
The Doctor arrives inside the mine in his mobile. He takes the Emerald and flies off into the mine. Cut back to Sonic as he rides on the badnik. Their movement is sporadic as they both try to control each other.
SONIC
Look buddy, I'm tight on time so I
need you to self-destruct if
possible.
Sonic manages to slam it into the walls of the cave a few times before diving into the ground. The badnik scrapes the ground for several feet. It tries to fly again but Sonic grabs it's head and finally crushes it. He turns around and the Crabmeat attacks.
SONIC (CONT'D)
Where do you guys even come from?
The two wrestle and fall off the cliff onto one of the many conveyor belts that transport raw goods. Sonic waits evading it's attacks.
SONIC (V.O.)
This can't just be my power. It has
to be the Emerald in there too. It
would be so much easier if I had
it. But I don't because I'm stupid.
He jumps onto higher platforms just as the badnik reaches the end and gets pinched in the machinery.
DR. ROBOTNIK
I'm impressed you've still survived
little man.
SONIC
This is so not funny! What are you
even transforming this planet for
anyway?
DR. ROBOTNIK
You won't be able to understand my
goals. You can't reach a base if
it's not even there.
SONIC
Good point. Too bad I'm kicking
your ass before it's lunch!
Before he can attack the Newtron drops on Sonic from the cave's ceiling. He cries as he gets pulled back down the cave and hits the ground.
SONIC (CONT'D)
We're done here!
He starts beating the badnik as hard as he can. He grabs it and slams it on each of his sides before dunking it off the ledge. Sonic jumps down to see the broken fragments and hides.
DR. ROBOTNIK
Where'd he go? No matter. He'll be
lucky if he survives all the fun
surprises. He won't find the
prisoner. I have a prize anyway.
Sonic is hidden in the dark of the cave as his enemy floats above him and flies away out of the mine.
SONIC (V.O.)
Prisoner? You idiot. All you had to
do was not say that part out loud.
At the other side of the cave, at
the end of the mine. That's where
he has to be keeping her.
Sonic runs further down and soon stops. He peeks around a corner.
SONIC (V.O.) (CONT'D)
A secret passage in the dark?
That's pretty hard to see.
He goes in and walks through the dark with caution.
INT. SECRET CELL - CONTINUOUS
Sonic keeps walking. The walls change to have smooth stone.
SONIC (V.O.)
At least Egghead puts effort in
where he keeps random civilians.
The room is illuminated by a dim lamp from the ceiling. He stands in front of a cell with an iron door and bars. Inside is a middle aged woman with long dark pink hair sitting on the floor. Sonic grabs two of the bars and pushes them open with his strength. She looks up.
SONIC
Mrs. Rose I presume?
AMY'S MOM
It's you. I can't believe you came
to save me. I thought I was going
to starve in here.
SONIC
You know, Amy said something
similar just less morbid.
AMY'S MOM
Amy? You found her? Where is she?
She gets up and grabs him in panic.
SONIC
She was far way from any robots
when I found her and unharmed. I
don't know where where Amy is now.
I just told her to stay put.
AMY'S MOM
I can't believe that out of
everyone that could came to Little
Planet it was the four of us.
SONIC
A friend told me it's not everyday
that you see instant destiny. This
is happening because a greater
force is making it so.
AMY'S MOM
You can feel the mystical side of
the universe?
SONIC
Long story but pretty much. Amy
never said who her mom is. I'm
Sonic.
AMY'S MOM (EVELYN)
Evelyn Rose. It wasn't that long
ago when you were on TV. It gave me
hope seeing a brave young man like
you after what happened to my
husband.
SONIC
Your husband? Amy never mentioned
her father. What happened?
EVELYN
We live in Sunset City on the West
Side. Do you remember what happened
to us?
SONIC
It was a couple years ago but I
heard about it. Robotnik has
attacked a few cities on the
islands and we thought he would
never hit South Island.
EVELYN
I was so scared when I saw the
bombs come down on Starlight.
It was like reliving a
nightmare. But you where
there Sonic. You were a hero
that day.
SONIC
I've had a few people tell
me that I'm not but I know my
dad thinks otherwise.
EVELYN
You are just as much of a
hero as the people you look
up to. Believe it or not, Amy
talks about you all the time.
I'm not sure if you figured
it out but she's obsessed
with you.
SONIC
Totally wasn't obvious. So
what happened to your
family?
EVELYN
It was a long chaotic day
when the Empire bombed
our city. He tried to bring
us down to be part of his
vision. There were a lot of
people who decided to
organize themselves to take
our city back. My husband
Richard was part of that effort.
Not everyone made it home that
day.
SONIC
Richard is the kind of man my father
wants me to be. I hope your daughter
sees the good in him. That man died as
a Freedom Fighter and he's my hero.
EVELYN
Please Sonic, it's more than being sad
over the people we've lost. You have to
keep fighting. Even when no one else
wants to. You give people hope. You've
proved that you can not just fight, you
can win. You have other abilities because
you have a job to do. You're my hero.
I'm proud of you Sonic.
SONIC
The way that I've been affected by the
Empire is way different than a lot of
other people. I haven't lost anyone the
way that you have. I can't imagine
how hard it is for Amy to be
fatherless. I get that I have to keep
going not because of my ego, but
for people like you who've had to suffer.
EVELYN
What are we going to do now?
SONIC
Listen I'll get you out of here.
But after you hide and after I
finish Robotnik I hope I can come
get you and Amy.
INT. SECRET BASE - DAY
The same white room is shown as Cubot and Orbot are playing a board game instead of cards. The door slides open and Robotnik comes in holding the blue Chaos Emerald.
CUBOT
What'cha got there boss?
DR. ROBOTNIK
The boy dropped it earlier. I'm
getting the equipment out. We have
to test this.
He presses a button on the wall and a holding tray pops out. The Doctor places the Emerald on it and a light scans it. He sits down at the same computer to see the results.
DR. ROBOTNIK (CONT'D)
It's detecting an unusually high
quantity of energy. No wonder it
could be important.
CUBOT
I think you just found a magic rock
Boss.
DR. ROBOTNIK
That can't be. There is a
scientific explanation.
ORBOT
The gem could possibly be
radioactive and explains the high
energy. In that case you would be
dead. But not us since we're
robots.
DR. ROBOTNIK
No, my tech can't fully measure
what kind of energy we're dealing
with. Almost like it doesn't exist
on this plane. Orbot, see if you
can find it.
ORBOT
Right away sir. With the expansive
database I've downloaded it's sure
to be in here somewhere. Got it!
He hovers over in front of the computer and his robot eyes project the file onto the screen.
DR. ROBOTNIK
What's this? No wonder he was so
protective. This is no ordinary
gemstones. This is a Chaos Emerald!
We must find them all!
CUBOT
Why do we need them in the first
place?
DR. ROBOTNIK
Because than we can kill the boy.
After I'll finally have the power
to rule the world!
The Doctor lets out his evil villain laugh. Cubot leans over and whispers.
CUBOT (TO ORBOT)
I think he's finally gone crazy
this time.
Robotnik takes the gem out and places it on another tray.
DR. ROBOTNIK
I must analyse the gem further. If
I can get a reading or wavelength
than we can hunt for the Emeralds.
He looks over his shoulder and shouts.
DR. ROBOTNIK (CONT'D)
Cubot! I'm placing you on Emerald
hunting duty.
CUBOT
Right! You can count on me boss!
DR. ROBOTNIK
And Orbot, you'll store them for
whatever purpose I need. I'll
transform Little Planet into my own
country. I'll be untouchable. I'll
destroy anyone who stands in my way
if they have a loud mouth or not.
Isn't that right miss?
Ivo sits at his down and changes the screen to the security footage. He goes to a camera on the roof of the base where Amy is tied up in chains to a pole.
DR. ROBOTNIK (CONT'D)
You can't escape me that easily.
Every time you try to run I'll just
take you back. You are no more than
a damsel in distress. You'll get to
watch as I tear your boyfriend to
shreds. That is if he survives my
last trap to get here. The fake
generator must've also taken the
Emerald's energy. That's making my
weapons much stronger than I
planned. Then, I make you suffer.
