EXT. METALLIC METROPOLIS - DAY
Sonic comes to a split path and stops. He sees a street sign.
SONIC
A street sign? Boy, Egghead does
have a sense of humor I'll give him
that. One side points to 'Stardust
Speedway'. I can't believe he even
named it. It's like some sick joke.
Like it's meant for me. Which means
it's a trap. Meaning that's where
he wants me to go. So that's where
I need to go. Perfect, now if I die
there I'm going to look like an
even bigger idiot.
Sonic runs off toward the glimmering metal city. When he gets there the natural land changes instantly. A ramp leads him up and he runs through at different elevations and angles.
SONIC (CONT'D)
This place really is built like a
city. The inside is probably a
giant robot factory or something.
Sonic keeps moving and evades a giant obstacle course filled with ramps, vertical loops, spike pits and a variety of traps.
SONIC (CONT'D)
I probably should've checked to see
if I could've found a way inside to
get myself killed that way.
DR. ROBOTNIK (OVER P.A.)
The Empire hopes all visitors enjoy
the Speedway ride.
SONIC
Great, he set up speakers to say
stuff just to mess with me.
He jumps around the top of the fake city before spotting another generator.
SONIC (CONT'D)
Another one? Hopefully I can throw
some things at it.
A nearby capsule opens up as steam comes out. A large clunky robotic, animal version of himself is revealed. The robot powers on as it's red eyes light up.
SONIC (CONT'D)
Just my luck.
It begins moving and attacking much faster than expected. Sonic jumps over and dodges his robot double.
SONIC (CONT'D)
Really? Eggman is so intrigued by
me that he makes his own version of
me. He didn't even bother painting
you blue.
Sonic delivers a few punches.
SONIC (CONT'D)
You are going to rust so bad at the
scrapyard!
He drops on its head hitting it to the ground. He jumps away and Silver Sonic gets back up.
SONIC (V.O.)
This guy's a lot faster and
stronger than expected. It has to
be powered up like the badniks from
earlier.
Sonic gets a running start and lands more punches to the head and torso. He pulls back shaking his hands in pain.
SONIC
No one told me you were going to be
this solid.
His twin gives a powerful uppercut launching him back. Before Sonic gets up the robot grabs his head and slams him into the ground and a nearby wall before throwing him. He gets hit to the ground as he gets up gets a beating. Sonic grabs one of it's fists and pushes it back.
SONIC (CONT'D)
I'm not letting a faker ruin my
day!
He picks it up over his head and slam dunks it into the ground and gives it it's own beating.
SONIC (CONT'D)
You're just a fake copy! You'll
never be the real me!
The robot gets an opening and chokes Sonic. He manages to kick himself free. He bounces back with a strong kick to the head sending it back.
DR. ROBOTNIK (OVER P.A.)
Destroying the evil robot clones is
strictly forbidden.
SONIC
Go ahead, mecha my day!
The two keep fighting as Sonic leaps to different levels as his double barely keeps up.
SONIC (CONT'D)
Not even a chuckle? I can't believe
Egghead put all this time into you
and didn't even give you a voice
box.
Sonic jumps back onto the course getting Metal to get hit by some of the traps.
SONIC (CONT'D)
You're not exactly made for racing
are you?
They loop back around to the starting point and jump down. He runs around it in circles as it tries to hit him.
SONIC (CONT'D)
You can do that. But can you do
this?
He grabs its arm and runs as it spins around and loses control.
DR. ROBOTNIK (OVER P.A.)
The base was initially conceived in
1987-
SONIC
Shut Up!
Sonic takes the robot over his head and smashes it on the ground again.
DR. ROBOTNIK (OVER P.A.)
-and finished construction in 1991.
It keeps attacking with dents and scrapes visible on it's metallic frame. A few blows land on Sonic's face and he drops to the ground. He can feel the dripping from his nose. He takes off one of his gloves and wipes his face.
SONIC (V.O.)
I'm, I'm actually bleeding.
His twin stopped fighting and continues once Sonic gets up. He jumps on it and smears his blood over its eyes. It stumbles around in its blindness when it trips. Sonic stands in front and picks it up.
SONIC
You don't compare to me!
He hurls the faker into the generator and both of them explode.
SONIC (CONT'D)
That takes care of it. I've been
here for a few hours already. I've
seen most of the planet. If
Robotnik has a base here there
can't be many spots where it is.
He looks into the horizon and sees the ominous dark clouds over the secret base.
SONIC (CONT'D)
And I think I know exactly where it
is.
He descends the city and makes his way toward the final battle.
INT./EXT. SECRET BASE - CONTINUOUS
Sonic reaches the base of the building and climbs to the top using scaffolding.
SONIC
I'm not just cracking the egg open.
I'm smashing the shell to bits.
He jumps at the top to swing around an antenna pole on the roof to get more distance. He lands and does a quick roll before standing. The Doctor is also there with his back turned.
DR. ROBOTNIK
Beautiful isn't it? I've spend so
much of my time creating my Empire.
I've transformed this planet to be
in my image. After I kill you I'll
do the same to your city and the
world.
SONIC
What are you, trying to play God?
DR. ROBOTNIK
You and your girlfriend are going
to be needing faith after I'm done
with you.
Sonic looks over and sees Amy still tied in chains. Robotnik faces the boy.
SONIC
You bitch! You couldn't leave the
girl be. You just had to take a
hostage.
DR. ROBOTNIK
You don't understand. The girl was
merely in the way. She is part of a
larger plan. My genius built all of
this Blue. You can't take that away
from me.
Panels in the floor open up strapping a metal belt to his torso. Four long metallic arms come to life and Robotnik is lifted into the air with two arms on the ground. Sonic goes into a fighting stance.
DR. ROBOTNIK (CONT'D)
You are special young one. We were
destined to be here. This time I
want you to fight me like a man.
SONIC
Bring it on.
One of the arms swipes but Sonic vaults over it only for the other arm to hit him back. He regains footing and poses.
SONIC (CONT'D)
You know, at first I thought you
were like the Kingpin. But with the
whole evil scientist thing we know
who you really are.
Sonic runs forward jumping through both arms and lands on top of the Doctor and starts hitting him. But not before one arm grabs him by the back, pulls him off and slams him down. The other attacking arm goes for Sonic's head but he grabs it as it tries to get him.
DR. ROBOTNIK
I've spent my whole life working on
this! I won't let you take it away!
SONIC
Working towards what? Building
death machines so you can feel
satisfaction for killing people
like me?
Sonic breaks free and goes for another combo. He dodges the arm and grips its head. Robotnik screams as Sonic slams it down on his chest. He kicks him to the ground and Sonic runs toward Amy. He starts climbing the thin tower towards the pole on top.
SONIC (CONT'D)
I'm coming!
Robotnik gets back up and one arm smashes Sonic into the tower before smacking him off.
DR. ROBOTNIK
You don't get to save the girl!
Sonic can't get an opening and can only evade.
DR. ROBOTNIK (CONT'D)
Once I tear you apart, I'm breaking
every bone in her body.
SONIC
No! I won't let you!
Sonic gets thrown across the roof by an arm and rolls on the ground.
DR. ROBOTNIK
Why do you care about your
girlfriend so much?
SONIC
She's not my girl. She's a civilian
and not part of this. It's only me
and you Ivo.
Sonic runs around him in circles only barely avoiding his enemy.
SONIC (V.O.)
For once I'm not good enough to
beat him. I've finally met my
match. There has to be another way.
Sonic runs in larger laps around the edges. Robotnik uses the arms to rip chunks of metal and concrete from the ground and throws them at him.
DR. ROBOTNIK
Hold still!
SONIC (V.O.)
Just a little more.
Sonic starts climbing the tower again and the Doctor follows. Sonic jumps off and takes Ivo with him. They break through the ground where the material was pulled from and fall inside the base. They hit the floor surrounded by machines of the Empire.
SONIC (V.O.) (CONT'D)
I'm having bruises for weeks after
this.
DR. ROBOTNIK
Tired of being the hero yet?
SONIC
Not tired, just hurt.
The two get up and continue battling. Sonic's clothes are slighly torn and Ivo lost his goggles. Sonic jumps around as the arms slam into the spot where he just was. Sonic flips up to higher ledges and support beams. The arms smash through and destroy those.
SONIC (CONT'D)
You're a moron! You're wreaking
your own work!
The Doctor yells in anger and Sonic jumps above and hurls him across the room. They both climb a wall and hit each other in close quarters. Machines, pipes and walkways get torn apart.
SONIC (CONT'D)
Earlier I learned that years ago
you attacked a city.
DR. ROBOTNIK
Oh really. Which one?
A arm holds Sonic against the wall as he struggles to break free.
SONIC
Sunset, West Side. The girl's
father fought against you. He died
that day.
DR. ROBOTNIK
I hope he suffered.
SONIC
That man died a hero. He's a
thousand times the man we'll ever
be!
Sonic pulls him to the floor as a giant chunk of the wall collapses. He goes to attack but gets smacked in succession before being pushed into the gaping hole. Sonic fails to get up. He begins coughing and spitting blood on the floor. He gets picked up by the head and the arm makes him face the Doctor.
DR. ROBOTNIK
I knew you were in deep shit as
soon as you stopped cracking your
infantile jokes.
The arm swings him around and slams Sonic on the floor. He lies there unresponsive.
DR. ROBOTNIK (CONT'D)
Enough. I have business to take of.
He leaves and goes back to the roof badly damaged. The scene cuts to the Doctor back on the roof making his way toward Amy. He turns around when he hears Sonic shout. Robotnik turns and gets a powerful finisher to the jaw as he collapses to the ground out cold. Sonic stands holding himself under his injures. The building begins to explode under his feet.
SONIC
Not Again! He put in another self-
destruct?
The base of the tower crumbles and tips over.
AMY
Sonic!
He runs up the side as it falls down and dives off the end as Amy slips off.
SONIC
Gotcha!
He grabs her and runs down the side. Near the bottom he jumps to the ground and runs off with her as the base explodes behind them.
EXT. COUNTRYSIDE - DAY
The mountain, Never Lake, Little Planet and the chain holding it are all in frame. Sonic runs down the chain as it starts to break apart with the Roses on his back.
SONIC
This is gonna be a bumpy one!
He jumps off and lands on the mountainside and runs to the bottom. He sets them both down.
AMY
You did it. You saved us. My hero!
She hugs him and kisses his cheek.
SONIC
You need anything else? I can get
you home.
EVELYN
No, that's alright. You've done
enough for us already Sonic.
AMY
Will we ever see you again?
SONIC
Depends. I wouldn't keep my hopes
up.
EVELYN
Go. Enjoy the rest of your
vacation. You have and Amy both
have school on Monday.
SONIC
Right. Now I have to go back to
being some kid in the suburbs.
EVELYN
At least you have a story of a
lifetime.
SONIC
I bet I'm collecting a lot more of
those than I know what to do with.
Sonic runs off back through the countryside the way he came earlier that day. He makes it back to the Tornado. He looks back through the valley and grins.
EXT. EMPTY BEACH - DAY
Sonic lies on a chair on an empty beach in the early November weather. The Tornado is parked on the grass not far behind him.
SONIC
I can't believe I forgot to take
more pictures. Now no one will
believe me.
He hears the grass shuffle and turns to look. A boy the same age as Amy stands there. He has a yellow jacket and hair with bright blue eyes. He has jeans and grey sneakers. On his backside are two fluffy yellow tails with white tips.
TAILS
Nice plane. Looks like you take
care of it.
SONIC
Thanks, the Tornado, it's my dad's.
TAILS
You sound like you have a cool dad
Blue.
SONIC
Yeah, he's a pilot. That's one of
the things he does. He let me
borrow it.
Tails inspects the body of the plane.
TAILS
The body looks like a common model
a lot of biplanes used in the
fifties. It looks like it has a few
mods on it.
SONIC
My dad's one hell of a mechanic. He
can practically fix anything.
TAILS
I'm into engineering too. What did
you use it for?
SONIC
I went to see Little Planet.
Unlucky for me Eggman was there and
we beat the crap out each other.
TAILS
You do look quite beat up.
SONIC
The bruises should heal in a week.
Sucks since I got school tomorrow.
TAILS
Everyone at my school talks about
you. I'm a really big fan. I saw
your plane and got chills when I
saw it was you.
SONIC
Yeah, my name's Sonic by the way.
But don't tell anyone.
TAILS
I'm Miles. Miles Prower.
SONIC
Your tails are sick. You don't see
those on a Mobian often.
TAILS
All the kids usually bully me and
call me a freak for it. I can't
help it. I was born this way.
SONIC
Listen man, kids are stupid. Don't
listen to them. You have a gift
that makes you different. Do they
cause anything?
TAILS
Actually, I can use them to fly!
The boy eagerly concentrates and each tail begins to spin.
Miles gets lifted off the ground and hovers in midair. He
tires out and falls on his bottom.
SONIC
That's awesome man! You don't even
know how cool you are. With that
power you could use it to help
people.
TAILS
You mean just like you?
SONIC
Yeah, just like me. Listen, what
are you doing out here anyway?
Where are your parents?
TAILS
Oh, I've been living at the
orphanage across town for a few
years now.
Sonic puts his head down.
SONIC (V.O.)
A few years? In Sunset? Did Tails
lose his parents the same way Amy
lost her dad?
SONIC
Hey, If I know where you live I
might go visit sometime.
TAILS
Really? You're the best Sonic!
SONIC
By the way, you create centripetal
force with your tails. That makes
lift which gets you off the ground.
Learned that in Physics class.
They both laugh. Tails turns to leave and waves.
TAILS
I'll see you again Sonic!
SONIC
Some other time little buddy. He
doesn't know it, but he has endless
possibilities.
Sonic goes back to relaxing with a big smirk of his face. The scene fades to black.
