'Well.' A small smile appears on my lips as I watch Gajeel narrowly avoid a spear unleashing a blast of lightning, swinging his fist downwards through the shaft of the spear, breaking it.

The fight has been going on like this for the past two minutes or so.

"Come on, Fairy Queen! I thought you were supposed to be something special! Geheheh!" He cackles as he ducks back, snatching the broken spearhead up off the ground and taking a bite of it like it's some sort of ice cream pop. "All I'm seeing is some red haired girl who was lain low by an exhausted Phantom Lord mage!"

A large cleaver scrapes down his forearm as he slams his knuckles into it, causing it to narrowly avoid his body.

His knee comes up, stomping on the back of the blade as it sinks into the soil.

His knee seems to warble, then a spire of iron shoots right into Erza's chest, slightly denting her armor.

He finishes eating the spearhead.

He reaches down, grabbing the cleaver and lifting it with one hand. "Why the hell do you toss around something as unwieldy as this?"

He takes several bites out of it, a smirk on his lips.

"ERZA! END IT NOW!" Makarov abruptly shouts. "HE'S TRYING TO BREAK AS MUCH OF YOUR ARMOR AS POSSIBLE!"

"Hm?" Jose hums smugly. "An interesting strategy, I suppose... an effective one as well."

I can see the red-haired woman's eyes quickly flick to the side before refocusing on Gajeel, her face hardening.

"Out of all the low down schemes, Jose." The shorter fairy tail guild master growls quietly. "This was your goal from the start!"

"Hm? Whatever do you mean?" Jose lies his ass off. "Isn't it smart to put our dragon slayer who primarily eats metal against the woman who primarily uses metal weapons and armor? This is strategy. Think of this as a war game, my friend. If you were smart. You would have postponed putting your Titania on the field until our dragon slayer was out of the picture. We would have sent him out against your own when you inevitably put the salamander on the field."

"How... did you know that we have the Salamander on our side? Are you saying that you cheated?! That you broke your own rules?!"

"Makarov, do you think I am a fool? Just looking at your salamander brat I could tell he would be participating. He is one of our strongest wizards. He is hot blooded and has a bone to pick with our Iron Dragon Slayer. It was no less than obvious that you would use him. Your ice make wizard is also quite likely, but, regretfully I have no idea who your last member could be... perhaps your monster arm wizard? Or perhaps the speed mage? It doesn't matter, I suppose."

As the guild masters are bickering, Erza swapped into new armor that is pink in color.

She blasts forwards, showing shocking speed and briefly causing Gajeel's eyes to widen.

He raises his cleaver meal in defense, Erza's attack cutting through the blade entirely, but, it did soften the blow slightly.

Gajeel is shot back into the far wall of the arena with shuddering boom, there's a plume of dust.

"Gajeel! Her armor is deteriorating at a rapid pace! Just hold out!" Jose screams.

Erza blurs fowards, the cloud of dust clearing quickly from the wind pressure of her next attack. She stabs forwards, Gajeel barely rolling out of the way as the blade pierces cleanly through the wall, a blue barrier seems to crackle slightly, her blade creating a large hole in the wall behind it.

"She- She broke through the barrier powered by the Jupiter Cannon?! Sol! Fix it!" Jose shouts.

"Qui Qui, Monsieur Porla." The flexible green haired man bows as he sinks into the stone floor of the colosseum.

Erza drags her blade free, causing a crackling line of light to appear on the shielding barrier, one that rapidly repairs itself.

Gajeel narrowly ducks the slash, lashing out with a punch that turns his arm into a steely pillar.

"GAAAH!" He growls as Erza deflects the punch to the side and lunges forwards, cutting a fairly deep wound into his chest.

*Crack-Crack-CHZZZ*

He smirks in victory though as Erza's blade cracks and shatters, her armor following closely behind, not being able to withstand its own power.

He lifts a handful of pink shards of metal and stuffs it into his mouth as Erza turns.

*BOOM*

Gajeel's magical aura explodes around him, the dragon slayer looking a little dazed.

Erza is blasted backwards, feet carving little trenches in the earth of the arena.

He looks over his body.

"Huh..." He mutters, a grin quickly crossing his face. "Well now... I guess I need to offer up some sort of thanks. Jose doesn't let me eat that many magical items. But... thanks to you, I think I finally understood something."

His skin becomes grey and steely, grin becoming feral, streams of magical power explode around him as he slightly hunches over, seemingly uncaring of his injury.

Lightning crackles around his body, followed shortly by ice and fire.

"Dragon Slayer Secret Art... Enchanted Scales."

A burst of power explodes around him as he lunges forwards, far faster than he was moments before.

His eyes glow red, skin blackening to a shade similar to Erza's purgatory armor.

The red haired woman can barely dodge, body glowing as she requips into her blackwing armor.

The chest piece if cracked- and even shattered as she is launched back from Gajeel's brutal blow.

Gajeel swings his arm out to the side as Erza lands roughly, rolling to a halt.

"Geheheheh. Let's try this."

His hand elongates slightly, straightening and becoming a short blade that is pink in color. The same shade of the armor that had nearly defeated him.

He swings his arm around slightly a frown on his lips.

His red eyes slowly slide upwards as Erza requips.

Her armor disappears, being replaced with baggy red pants with what looks like stylized flames around the ankles, mere bandages covering her bust. She's battered and bruised, scraped and magically exhausted. A single sword rests in her hand, a Katana that doesn't look like much.

Her eyes narrow as she takes the sword in both hands. "You... are strong. I will give you that much. But this is over."

They suddenly blur forwards, magical energy pooling around her sword.

A green light seems to glow from Gajeel's smaller weapon, lightning of a similar color crackling around his body.

"PHANTOM BURST!" He roars.

"FLASH!" Erza replies.

There's a sudden explosion of movement, and they both slide to a stop past each other.

Another cut opens up on Gajeel, causing the mage to fall to a kneel, Erza is the same, a cut opening up on her side that nearly topples her over.

They both fall over.

"Ah... IT'S A TIE!" The announcer exclaims.

"Damn." Jose curses, I can hear Makarov quietly seething and glowing over the microphone.

"Ah well." He relents.

I watch as he holds out a hand.

Gajeel glows brightly, his wounds sealing rapidly.

He sits up, rolling his shoulder, the X-shaped mark Erza had carved into him now being nothing more than a little red line.

Well.

That probably took quite a lot of life force... I wonder where Jose got all of that, honestly.

Or maybe he just converted his own magical power into that effect.

He is a wizard saint for a reason.

"What-" Makarov gasps. "What did you do?"

"Hm?" Jose hums. "Oh. I simply learned a bit of healing magic before this."

"Then- Then heal Erza as well!" Makarov shouts.

"Makarov, Makarov, Makarov. Insult after insult you have hurled at me and my guild during this event. Frankly, I'm hurt. To be so petty and childish. Fine. I will heal your girl. Not that she even needs it in the first place. Nonmagical means would have been enough for her to survive."

With a wave of his hand, the gash on Erza's side is healed, but it will probably scar. "There. Now stop whining."

"Ah. Here's my next competitor." Jose hands the announcer a piece of paper. "We'll decide the next members like we did for the first."

With a flash, Jose- or rather, a Thought Projection of the man appears in front of us.

"Aria. You're up. they'll likely send out the dragon slayer next. Clear out the rest of them, would you."

"Yes, Master." The giant nods, a small grin crossing his face. He is quite eager to crush the remaining fighters it appears.

"Oh. And Arthur. I could heal that leg injury up if you need." The man begins.

I look down to the flexible ribbon-like dull blade I tied around my leg.

"Ah. I've got a healing sword on it. It's not really hurting that bad anymore. Still feel a bit woozy, though."

"I must say... I am deeply pleased with both your and Gajeel's showings. Mystogan was something I didn't expect, and yet, you dealt with him quite well... and even destroyed those precious staves of his."

"I'll admit, I really didn't intend to do that, but it worked out, I guess." I reply.

The door on the far side of the room slams open, a shirtless Gajeel walking in, rolling his shoulder. "Damn red haired woman. What a pain in the ass."

"Gajeel... good work." Jose smirks.

"Hey. I'm happy with it." The dragon smirks. "What a nice meal... plus I discovered some interesting parts of my magic. Doubt pinky could even hold a candle to what I am now."

"You know fairy tail." I sigh. "You could unlock some sort of ultimate magic spell... and then he'd walk out with 'White Fire' mode or something equally asinine and be all 'hey, Lightning is just really hot fire, right?'. Ugh. Power of friendship whackjobs."

"Tch. I do wish I got to fight him." Gajeel growls under his breath.

"Maybe next year?" I suggest.

"Yeah yeah. Maybe." He shrugs.

"Zetsu."

Ice crumbles as numerous explosions cascade across the arena.

"Gaaaaah!" Gray shouts as he is blasted backwards, landing roughly on the dirt floor of the arena.

The crowd goes wild.

Aria looks a little winded, body lightly scorched

Natsu has been defeated... and now... Gray as well.

the black haired shirtless ice wizard tries to get up but collapses.

"And with that, Fairy Tail is down to their last member! Astounding! Is this the end for their number one status?! Will a new number one guild be crowned?!"

"Ah... the world is seeing just how powerful the Phantom Lord guild is... finally." Jose smirks. "Do you have anything to say, Makarov?"

"You're talking a lot of shit for someone who waited until one of our S-class was out on a mission before taking this mission!"

"That's ridiculous, Makarov." Jose lies through his teeth. "I didn't wait for anything. Regardless, should your brat have been here, I sort of doubt he could have done much to change this. Even if he could, would that change anything? Is Fairy Tail a guild that relies on merely one of two strong wizards? I thought you had quality on your side. That's what you always liked to say."

"You are the last one I want to hear that from, Jose." Makarov glares. "After all, isn't your entire guild based around three or four stronger wizards?"

"The same could be said for yours, honestly." Jose smugly hums. "You will always use the dragon slayer, the ice mage, the fairy queen, and your other S-Class. That's, what? Five decent mages? Six? With a guild so small you should really consider nurturing more."

"A single Fairy Tail Wizard is worth TEN Phantom lord wizards!"

"Then why are you losing?" Jose smirks, causing the older man to shake with rage.

"Master Jose is enjoying this far more than I would have expected." Juvia observes.

"Makarov must have really angered him in the past." I nod slowly. "I can see how, considering how combative he has been this entire time."

"I wonder who the final member will be?" I mutter quietly, a frown on my lips.

"Bah. Who cares." Gajeel growls, munching on a large bar of iron. "The mildly impressive ones are down now... unless their white haired tavern wench stopped being such a fucking pussy."

"Might be her brother." I shrug.

"Tch. Even worse. Guy crippled his own magic." Gajeel scoffs.

"You know, takeover magic always sort of intrigued me." I admit. "Sort of makes me wonder. Animal, Beast and Demon soul exists... what about God soul or Dragon Soul?"

"Tch, you think some fucking poser can just pick and choose dragons whenever they want?" The man scoffs.

"..."

"Hey, Gajeel, did you here that there's an entire guild of dragon slayers across the ocean in Gulitina?"

"Hah? Really? An entire guild? Damn. Maybe I should have joined them." He mutters.

"Oh, they're fake dragon slayers, really, not trained by a dragon and got their dragon slaying powers by consuming dead dragons."

"That... works?"

"It does. But there's some limitations I assume." I shrug. "But I also heard they don't suffer from motion sickness."

"THOSE MOTHERF- I'LL HUNT THEM DOWN AND KILL THEM!" The slayer roars.

I go back to tinkering with the orb in my fist.

The sealed Deliora... and Ur.

Deli-ur-a.

Heh. Funny.

This sacred gear's going to be quite powerful if I do say so myself. I can already tell it has quite an extensive ice attribute.

So, I'm probably going to give it to Juvia here.

"AND THE FINAL MEMBER OF TEAM FAIRY TAIL... LIL' MAKY!" The voice shouts.

"Wait what?" I blink.

"Hah?" Gajeel mutters.

Four sets of eyes are drawn to the magical screen where a tired and battered aria stand in front of...

A large buff bald man in a wrestling mask stands there.

"Makarov you've actually got to be shitting me." Jose deadpans.

"What? That's our newest guild member... Lil' Maky." The older shorter man huffs, tilting his head back slightly.

"That's literally just a thought projection of you." Jose continues.

"No it isn't. He's far taller and more handsome than I am." Makarov continues to deny.

"You have a magic that lets you grow to giant scale." Jose tries to be the voice of reason.

"Pshhh." Makarov waves off. "That proves nothing."

"Besides... nowhere in those rules I got did it say that guild masters can't compete." Makarov smiles.

"..."

"Aria." Jose calls out. "You have my permission to go all out."

"You are looking down on us, Jose!"

"No... you misunderstand." Jose smiles. "I purposefully told him to not use one of his most dangerous spells during this tournament after all, a death would stain this glorious event. However... Little Maky is sure to be durable enough to survive, no?"

"BEGIN!"

Aria disappears, a grin on his face.

Nothing happens for a long moment... then the airspace wizard appears behind the buff 'new wizard'.

He is promptly backhanded before he can even start to cast his Metsu spell.

"Damn." I sigh.

"Lil Maky Wins!"

*Poof*

Jose appears in front of us, letting out a few quiet grumbles under his breath. "Little fucking bastard. I'll show you a fucking fight."

He seems to be straightening his robes, his eyes glowing a fierce purple.

"Arthur. A sword if you would." He seethes. "Yuka I am afraid I will be taking your spot. My apologies, boy."

"What kind do you want?" I question.

"A sword that eats light. Can you manage that?"

"Let's see here..." I mutter under my breath. "I can do that easily, but... wouldn't it be better to gracefully bow out of this competition? Make fairy tail look really bad? I mean, this was supposed to be a tournament for us. The mages. Not the guild masters to throw their weight around... and fairy tail broke that? Imagine having to have their guild master bail them out! Besides. Even after a loss there's nothing saying we can't pop a gear or two out of the Gildarts Shift mechanism just to be petty."

The man pauses, taking a deep breath, a sickly grin appearing on his face. "Ah. Lost my cool again. That damned man always brings out the worst in me. Thank you for allowing me a brief moment of clarity, Arthur. Yes. I believe that we will continue as we have. Yuka. You're up. Makarov is a master of numerous magics, his primary one being the ability to stretch and shape his body to giant proportions. Your barriers will probably not be able to withstand it. But the goal isn't to win, it's to try and lose gracefully I suppose."

"If he's going to grow his hand big and swat you like a bug, why not become a nail?" I shrug.

"I... haven't attempted to really shape my waves... hm." The teen observes, a frown tugging at his lips for a moment before turning upwards. "I shall try it."

Well. Down to Juvia, then.

Yuka did one thing. Mildly pricked Makarov's hand, but that's about it.

I gently grasp her hand, a smile on my lips as she stands up. "I believe in you."

And now for a new strategy.

I lean forwards, whispering into her ear. "If you can knock him flat I'll give you a kiss~"

"Buwah-" the girl gasps.

Her eyes widen as those words seem to bounce around inside her head.

Her face hardens as she turns, eyes practically glowing with magical power.

"..."

Did that...

Did it work?

My eyes stray to the screen.

"Your lovey-dovey bullshit disgusts me." Gajeel glares.

"You're just mad that you don't have a girlfriend..."

"Or a cat." I nod once.

"Why the fuck would I want a cat?"

"Natsu has one... that little girl dragon slayer from Cait Shelter has one... I'm pretty sure I saw those two child light and shadow dragon slayers each have one." I list.

"..."

"You're maidenless!" I declare, pointing at him dramatically. "And you're without pussy!"

"I'm going to beat the shit out of you." The man glares.

"Heh." I snort, glancing back at the screen.

"What's wrong, Jose?!" Makarov mocks- or at the very least the main Makarov that is sat in the commentator booth beside Jose. "Aren't you going to try and salvage this?! Are you scared of facing me?!"

"No. This was a tournament meant for children. An opportunity for young mages to better themselves against strong opponents in a relatively safe setting. Yet here you come with your wounded pride ruining this not only for my side, but your own as well. You're pathetic, you know that, Makarov? You boast and boast about how fairy tail is the 'greatest' and how you have 'quality', but when the cards are on the table, you were down... four to two... and you decide to try and salvage your pride by personally defeating the remainder of my five..."

"This sounds an awful lot like something you'd accuse me of doing, don't you think?"

The announcer seems to but in. "With that, the ten minute break is over! Phantom Lord's final wizard has been selected! Drip Drip Drop! The water woman comes-"

*BOOM*

Thunder booms in the distance.

"-Phantom Lord's Water Element Four and their final participant in this tournament, IT'S JUVIA LOCKSER!"

The blue haired woman that I've grown to love over the past month or so walks out of the connecting tunnel.

Water surges around her, beginning to flood the arena as a vicious downpour begins to fall, splattering against the weak barrier over the spectators.

"Let's count it down! TEN!"

The water seems to crawl higher and higher, the ground seeming to rumble as she stares down the portion of the wizard saint's power.

"Holy shit..." I whisper.

"Three!"

"Two!"

"One!"

Water violently surges forwards, Makarov growing to towering heights.

He claps his hands, rebounding the wave of water, then he swings his arms out, the foremost wave of the water freezing and holding it back.

Juvia's eyes narrow as all of the water instantly boils.

"JUVIA WON'T LET YOU STAND IN THE WAY OF GETTING A KISS FROM HER PRINCE!" She roars sending an absolutely massive vortex of water at the giant.

Sharpened whirlpools seem to form around Makarov's ankles, slashing away at his legs as he crosses his arms, being battered by what's basically a waterspout.

"..."

"That girl sort of scares me." I blink twice, a smile slowly appearing on my lips.

"Huh..." Gajeel mutters, blinking up at the screen as well.

A pressurized jet of water crashes into the giant's palm, reddening his skin.

"ENOUGH!" Makarov calls out flash-freezing the entire arena.

Snow seems to gently fall from the sky.

"..."

"It appears that Juvia is-"

*CRASH*

A wave of ice smashes into the back of Makarov's heels, sending the giant smashing back into numerous jagged icicles.

Juvia stands atop a large glacier, her breath visible, limbs lightly icy and frozen she stares down at the giant.

"JUVIA DID IT!" She shouts as she turns and hops off the ice, skipping back through the tunnel she entered through.

"Juvia... has forfeited?" The hired announcer mutters.

"Ah well." Jose hums as the magical viewing device streaming to these archive screens swings back to the people in the commentator box.

"HAH!" Makarov huffs.

Jose has quite a devious smile, eyes glinting slightly. "We may have lost this one, but who's to say that we will next year."

"Next year?" Makarov blinks.

"Yes. Next year. For you see, this was all just a prototype! A test! A duel is all well and good, but we all know that there is more to being a wizard than defeating other wizards. That's why, next year, we hope to expand this... battling will still be a part, you don't need to worry, it's a large part of being a wizard, after all, but. We are hoping to develop a few more interesting events to go alongside it... and, I would like to formally extend an invitation to the top eight guilds in Fiore to join."

"Of course... there will be revisions... made to the rules."

"Now. Here." Jose scoffs, turning to Makarov lazily tossing a stack of Jewel.

"Your winnings. Goodbye Makarov."

With a loud 'fwoosh' he disappears.

"Well. This went as well as it possibly could have." I smile.

"Oi. What do you mean? We lost." Gajeel deadpans. "Winning would always be better."

"No..." I shake my head slowly. "In this case... I'd say the way people will view Makarov and Fairy Tail from now on is a much better prize than simple victory."

"Exactly that, my boy!" Jose grins maliciously. "We have irreparably damage the public perception of not only Makarov himself, but the entirety of the Fairy Tail guild!"

"People will always now ask... 'would fairy tail have won if their guild master didn't bail them out? Well, I mean it's quite obvious. Two-to-four with four of their most powerful mages being taken out so... easily." I nod. "And this isn't even for a moment taking into account what Makarov's grandchild is going to do in response!"

I frown suddenly. "On that... the Phantom Lord perhaps only has two genuine threats to it at the moment... the first, Grimoire Heart comes for revenge after what we did to Ultear..."

"Possible." Jose agrees, his joy stifling into a calculative glare.

"And the next, is little Laxus throwing a temper tantrum and destroying some of our secondary guild halls... I heard he knows the fairy law spell and that... that isn't something we are readily able to defend against." I cup my chin. "He's the type who wouldn't take an embarrassment like this lying down... he's going to strike at us, the question is... 'would he focus on his own guild first or our own?'."

"Do not worry about him." Jose smiles. "With Grimoire Heart... I'm cautious... but against a simple boy lashing out? Phantom Lord can handle that."

"Hm." I hum. "In that case... I believe I'll be taking a mission to the giant's village relatively soon... I've heard of a raging inferno that never goes out and that interests me."

"But first." I begin.

"MY PRIIIIINCE!" The door slams open.

"I've got to go on a date."

Arthur you scheming little shit. This COULD NOT have gone better, could it have?
