Don't Own Fairy Tail or anything else Only The Oc
'thought'
"Speech"
"Powerful Creatures Speaking, like a dragon or a god"
"Text via book or newspaper... when those are around..."
Alriiiight a couple things.
Firstly, I'm not exactly sure I'm doing magic.
Like...
It's similar, don't get me wrong, but 'magic' doesn't feel like the right word for it.
I'm using things that are already there, using little- if any at all- magic power to manipulate the energies that already exist...
Thaumaturgy?
Taking something that's already there and making use of it?
If that's the case... I need to re-name 'Implosion magic' as it'd become just a simple spell in this new branch of 'magic'.
Another thing.
Papi used her allowance buy the rest of my snacks after I gave her one for free.
I gave her the rest of the candy bars, for two copper coins each, very cool. Made twenty two copper in one day.
Shame she didn't like the Capri Sun drinks... I have far more of those than I had candy.
Anyways, according to the system, I can trade those coins for ten cents each!
Two entire dollars have been made!
Huzzah!
Considering I don't have any bills or groceries, that's pretty reasonable, honestly.
I'm still probably going at a tremendous loss, though.
Well, I mean, technically not considering I got it for free.
But if I were to buy candy bars from the shop, I'd need to up the price like... twofold just to break even.
Still! MONEY MONEY! What can I get from a gas station that's convenient? It's been like... genuinely over a decade since I've been IN a gas station at this point.
Salted nuts. Two for a dollar. That could be reasonable to pawn off.
I wonder if Papi likes peanuts?
Of course, I'd be forced to sell them for six copper each.
Wines.
Hot dogs.
Lighters?
A lighter might be useful to Papi but ah...
Harpies don't really have thumbs.
Plus, I certainly wouldn't want fire anywhere near my feathers if I had them.
Huh...
Actually.
I'm reminded of that one guy from full metal alchemist with a lighter.
I mean, I've never watched it. I was too busy doing other things. I sadly fell out of my 'anime arc' at the age of like seventeen or eighteen.
Sad. There's a bunch of things that I never got to watch...
Perhaps this computer will let me get some sort of multiversal hulu or something?
"Fuck it. Let's get me a basic lighter."
I can't afford one of those grill lighters, so we'll have to deal with the classic plastic ones.
Shipping. Estimated time of arrival 22:02:59
I watch the number slowly tick down.
"..."
I flop back, staring up at the ceiling. "Damn it."
"Alright... let's try this." I mutter under my breath.
I try to ignite the lighter once, only to fail as I don't press the trigger fast enough.
The second attempt, I let go as I got mildly startled by the warmth so close to my thumb.
The third attempt, I keep it lit, looking over the flickering fire just in front of my thumb.
a low breath leaves my lips.
'alright... let's see if this works.
I point the lighter slightly away from me then ignite it, guiding a large compact orb of ethernano towards it.
Nothing happens, the orb washing over the fire and dispersing as if someone had blown on it.
"..."
Alright. I'm sort of out of ideas.
Maybe vocalization?
The world seems to respond to that with Implosion.
I quietly gather ethernano again, then do the same thing.
"BURN!" I exclaim.
*FWOOOSH*
A puff of fire seems to explode off the lighter.
A little gout.
Not all that impressive.
It's like I did one of those mundane 'fire breath' torch tricks with high proof alcohol or corn starch.
Regardless...
Fire.
I quickly perk up, rushing back inside.
'Come on. Come on. Please please.'
*Ping*
A new email! YES!
"Re: 'New Objective'
Alright... uh... this wasn't necessarily what I had in mind. But, technically you manipulated fire. Not bad. I didn't expect you to complete this for at least a month or three... and that was after you built up enough courage to take a visit to a library or Fairy Tail to read a book on magic.
I promised one of three rewards so, here you go. Pick one.
One random Fairy Tail Magic item of random strength, Shop Unlock: Fast Food, Chat Group Selection (Pick one person).
To explain deeper Choice 1 gives you a magic item from fairy tail- even one not seen in the series, ranging from that one magic box that changes the color of your clothes seen in episode one, to a dragon slayer lacrima.
Option 2 lets you order fast food with your store. Mcdonalds, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Etc~
Option 3 lets you pick out one singular person and create a chat connection with them."
'Fuuuuuuuuck. Seriously?! They're making me pick from 'genuinely useful to learn magic Gacha', power upgrade, and chatting with a waifu?'
Well, I mean, technically speaking, I might fuck up the conversation with the person I connect to. Let's leave forming connections like that until I'm a little more... social... which could take some time.
Option two is particularly evil, because it's not useful right now as I don't have any money, but DAMN IT!
I want a stuffed crust pizza! It's been ages since I have been able to chew normally without that cavity of mine being agonizing.
Fucking covid locking everything down.
'Fucking me for being afraid of dentists after one bad experience where they left me there with a hole they carved in my tooth for a good hour or two while they went on a fucking lunch break or something when I was like ten.'
'Alright while I'm on the topic, what's the fucking deal with those people asking questions while they have drills in your mouth?! Like, I can't fucking answer you! You're making me feel like an inconsiderate asshole while I try not to move or jerk so that drill bit you have in my mouth doesn't cause permanent damage!'
I shake my head, looking between choice one and choice two.
*Ping*
I get a new email.
"System Upgrades will remain through numerous objectives as they are linear, so don't worry too much about this decision, you'll get your chance to have fast food again-"
I select the first option, a smile on my lips.
Estimated time of arrival 59:59
Oooh I get my cool new thing in just one hour!
In the meantime, why don't I mess around with some more fire. There's other words I want to try!
As it turns out, 'Ignis' is the most powerful word for that sort of spell.
It was about twice as powerful as 'Burn'.
It was quite visually impressive.
The more magic I gather, the bigger- and hotter- the fire.
The basic version was just big and flashy. The fire didn't really last long, nor was hot enough to really do that much damage.
Just a bunch of flash, enough to certainly startle someone, but without a lot of 'oomph'. it is just flash and pomp.
Regardless, it could probably be useful if I actually figured out how to control my mana instead of using the ethernano in the air around me as a substitute.
Oh well.
My package should be getting here annnnny moment now-
*Ding* *Ding* *Ding*
I stand up, a bright grin on my face.
I don't even own a doorbell, but it does that anyways!
I open the door, spying a box on the doorstep.
I pick it up, bringing it inside, a bright smile on my face.
"Alright let's see!"
I place it on the floor in the living room and crack it open.
The inside glows brightly, a light shooting out.
A glow appears on the floor... the light growing brighter and more importantly larger.
The object towers over me, lining up with the wall.
The box disappears with a small pop leaving me looking up at...
An organ...
No, not the things inside me like a heart and lungs... an instrument... Piano on steroids.
*Ping*
My face falls.
I...
Was expecting like... a fireball ring. Not something I'd never be able to reasonably use. What does this even do?
I make my way over to the computer.
"Item Delivery."
"Congratulations on your brand new magical item, the Artillery Organ! It has who modes, one allows you to play the beautiful notes of a church organ, while the other shoots large blasts of magical power out as you play the keys. This is quite rare! Congratulations yet again!"
"Fuuuuhhhh." I sigh. "Why couldn't I have gotten like... A sword? Or Gale Force Reading Glasses? Like, I'd take one-point-five times speed reading glasses over this bullshit."
I open my notes tab, quickly writing down another goal.
Goals and Aspirations:
1: Learn how to control my own PERSONAL magic
2: Make Freinds
3: Acquire Girlfriend. Specifically Waifu. Maybe the Juuv. If not, figure out how to go to Rwby and grab Psychotic Ice Cream girl.
4: Be interesting enough to keep a healthy relationship with said girlfriend.
5: Chocolate Maker Magic
6: Enchanting
7: Shrink Magic (So I can move that fucking Pipe Organ)
I get another email.
Timed Quest 1:
Well, you can manipulate the elements, but that's not TRUE magic. You were sent there for magic, so it's time to crush your social anxiety and go out and learn!
Missioned Gained: Learn how to actually manipulate your personal magical energy.
Reward: One of three Options
Timer: 7 Days 23 hours, 59 Minutes, 48 Seconds.
Shiiiit.
My hands pause over at the door handle of my home, deep heaving breaths leaving my lips. 'Ooooh I don't want to do this!'
ACCURSED SOCIAL ANXIETY.
I just need to go to Fairy Tail... ask to see their library and read about magic.
Oh god. What if I do something weird? What if I trip and fall? What if I do something insulting?!
It's not a big deal. Hey! You're a kid! Nobody will pay you any mind...
Just...
Do it.
Do it.
Come on.
Fucking do it.
Walk outside.
Wander your way over to the guild.
GO OR YOU'LL LOSE OUT ON THINGS THAT COULD MAKE YOUR LIFE MORE CONVENIENT!
My hands shake slightly as I take a deep breath.
'Come on. One step over the other.'
"Hello." I greet, barely over a whisper. "Can... I see your library?"
I look up to a small balding old man sat on a countertop. Makarov Dreyar...
A wizard saint. Someone who could splatter me without even exerting a percent of his true power.
"Over there." He gestures to the side, quietly drinking from a mug.
Is...
Is it really that easy?
Whatever.
I quickly excuse myself, not looking at anyone or anything, entering the double doors he gestured towards.
I look around, the room being quite large.
Huh... now...
If I was a book on basic magic... where would I be?
Well.
Uh...
I think I understand?
Somewhat?
Emotion is a key part to magic, as is concentration and mental ability to draw it out, to charge the nervous system with magic and all that.
"Whatever, let's give it a go... maybe I just didn't meditate long enough last time."
I look to a grey magic circle slowly rotating over my hand.
A spew of little green ethernano orbs seems to spray from the top of it, causing the air around me to become thick with green motes of light.
Well.
I figured it out.
I clench my fist causing all of the ethernano to come to a single point.
"Let's see about this..." I mutter, pointing my lighter skywards.
"IGNIS! MAXIMA!"
With a shrill shriek a bolt of fire shoots off into the sky, leaving a billowing cloud of black smoke in its wake.
As it begins to lose moment it-
*BOOM*
Explodes like a firework, sending streaks of embers in all directions.
Thankfully they cool and disappear long before hitting the ground.
"huh." I mutter under my breath,
That took quite a lot of my energy, but that might actually be a worthy attacking magic.
Regardless, with that, Quest Complete!
I quickly rush back to my home, going inside and locking the door behind me.
I walk towards my computer- being forced to step around the annoyingly large pipe organ first- then take a seat in my wooden chair.
What do I have here?
It took about five days, but in the end I finally learned magic!
Timed Quest 1:
Well, you can manipulate the elements, but that's not TRUE magic. You were sent there for magic, so it's time to crush your social anxiety and go out and learn!
Missioned Gained: Learn how to actually manipulate your personal magical energy.
Rewards:
Option 1: Random Magic Item. You know the deal. One random magic item.
Option 2: Random Book from Fairy Tail: You will be given a random book from fairy tail... this could range from one of Zeref's books to a simple smut book. Useful if you want to expand your library on magical theory or spell tomes.
Option 3: Random Material: Grants you a random material. This can range from magical dirt, a branch of a world tree, or even uncut gemstones. If you are truly lucky, you might even be able to nab something from another universe entirely! Specifically from the worlds you have connected to.
I got burned the last time I went for a magic item. Next, books are nice, I guess.
I have a little display cabinet and a bookshelf in my bedroom. I'd just need to dust it off.
As for materials... it could be useful.
I close my eyes, stroking my chin slowly.
Let's weigh my options.
A magic item can be anything ranging from an automatically cleaning spoon to the magical bomber Christina.
Books are typically book-sized.
The pipe organ made me realize just how fucking inconvenient a magic item could be, materials might sort of be the same. I might get 'thirty five metric tons of iron' as a reward.
"Book me, system!" I grin as I click the middle reward.
There's one thing I want to do in this new life... and that's collect things!
With my shop system, soon I could probably start collecting anime figures- or I could just fucking make them that'd probably be fun- collecting books also sounds like fun, and, well, all collections have to start somewhere!
Estimated time of arrival 59:59
I walk around the room briefly before sitting on the floor, flopping onto my back, and staring up at the ceiling.
I gaze down at an extremely thick book, a bright grin on my face. I can already tell this is going to be a good read.
"Aforn's Compendium of Fibrous Maker Magics"
I got sooooo fucking lucky according to the computer.
Like, it's no God Slayer Magic tome or anything like that but still! It's not just a basic book on 'String Make' or 'Web Maker' Magic... No... It's a compilation!
It's a large book, hardback, the image of a needle and thread just under the name.
It's quite tall, like a school textbook.
The only difference is this book is around two thousand pages long and most of those struggle to go over a thousand.
That means it weighs quite a lot. I have to exert myself quite a lot to move it about.
There are numerous sections in the book. The front is more 'basic' techniques, and the back is the more advanced stuff.
From what I can tell, there's a section for quite a few types of fabric in here, starting off with Burlap, and eventually ending with the likes of Silk and Velvet.
Of course, the sections devoted to those higher-class fabrics are naturally longer than those of Burlap or Twine cordage.
This. Is a magic worth learning.
After all, spider silk is stronger than steel!
It is certainly quite a ways off, but... this...
The corners of my mouth turn upwards. 'This book gives my reincarnation meaning... it's not just a simple book or collectable. This book is my path to the future. I was barely scraping by, living meal to meal, boredly walking around my room pondering magic... but with this? I can BE someone!'
All it will take... is a bit of learning.
"Let's see here... the origin of it all... string-make."
Maker magic is... interesting.
The first fifty pages were a general overview of how maker magic works and how to create 'string' with magic.
According to the book, all maker magic is divided into two categories, then it is further divided.
The fist division is quite basic... Static and Dynamic.
Examples of this are Gray and Leon.
Honestly? I don't really get how Leon lost that fight.
Dynamic Maker magic is just strictly better than normal static maker magic- with one little exception- but like... why WOULDN'T you use Dynamic maker magic? Like, why wouldn't you use both?! Make ice soldiers wielding ice weapons and armor. Make ice dragons. Ice hawks.
The sheer versatility of giving your creations a programmed 'pseudo intellect' is just... so much better.
Oh? There's a wall in the way? Go around. Are they trying to shoot you down? Evasive actions. Volley fire.
Anyways, there's one little aspect that Static maker magic beats out Dynamic maker magic.
Well, two, actually.
The first would be mana efficiency.
Creating a ball of ice would take less mana than creating a smaller chain chomp of ice for instance.
In addition, 'static maker magic' spells are further divided into two categories... Permanent maker magic and Temporary Maker Magic.
It's exactly like it sounds.
One person can create an iron sword and have it last forever, another could do the same but have it only last as long as it is being supplied magical power... plus like... an hour or two maybe.
Now, the thing is, not all maker magics can BE 'permanent', such as Air-Make or Fire Make, those two require mana to be expended to keep its form for the prior, and mana to act as fuel to burn for the latter. Ice... is in a bit of a grey area.
Sure, it can be 'permanent', but ice melts.
Dynamic maker magic can never be permanent. It requires a constant flow of magical power to function.
But for static maker magic?
You can create something that'll last forever.
Now. There's some notable downsides.
Firstly. Magical power cost.
The spell will cost a vast amount more with the cost increasing depending on how rare or valuable a certain material is. So, for instance, a diamond-make wizard could create walls upon walls of incredibly durable diamonds, create swords, armor, arrows, but the second he tries to make them permanent... well, he might struggle to create a diamond the size of his thumbnail. But a dirt make wizard would be able to make large mounds of earth, walls, floors, mud bricks an entire city of dirt. But don't get me wrong, he'd be able to make less of it.
Creating silk could be a good money-maker for me... and a good way to train magical capacity.
I assume due to silk being so high quality, it'd be a good material for enchanted clothing.
I wonder if I could get Irene to teach me...
But, like, what could I offer her?
Maybe I could figure out a method for her senses to go back to normal?
It might be possible.
Maybe a One Piece human-human fruit of some sort? That's just a general theory, but that requires me to One: connect to one piece and two: get extremely lucky and get a trade for a devil fruit... then get the one in a billion odds of having the fruit be a zoan human fruit on the first try.
*Ping*
I slowly stand up, taking a seat at my computer.
"Hey, Andrew are you there?" - Papi
"Yep. Need something?" - Andrew
"Do you have any more chocolate?" - Papi
"A single bar. Want it?" - Andrew
"YES! Let me go grab some copper!" - Papi
A new screen opens up on the window, I grab the crunch bar and shove it forwards. It seems to sink into the screen
Trade offer:
[ ] Andrew: Fun-Sized Crunch Bar
[ ] Papi: Nothing
Accept Trade?
{Yes} {No}
I wait a few seconds, watching as 'Two Copper' is added to Papi's side. The image of two coins appearing to join the photo of my candy bar.
With that two little checkmarks fill the box as we both 'accept'.
I reach out to the screen, hand glowing slightly as I clench my fist.
Two copper coins now rest in my hand.
I slowly smile then insert the coins back into the computer.
With that, I have gone up to two dollars again.
"Thanks Andy!" - Papi
"No Problem. So, how has your day been?" - Andrew
"OH! My mom helped me make my first impressive sword today! A silver broadsword! It's SOOO much sharper than the normal ones I make!" - Papi
"Wait... Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't silver a poor metal to make weapons and armor out of? Like... isn't Iron harder?" - Andrew
"Oh, normally you'd be right, be we have a special method to temper the metal and draw out the little bit of magic in silver to harden it further. It's why we use gold for weapons as well." - Papi
"Huh... one of these days, would you mind telling me how to do that? It would probably help out if I ever begin to learn Metal-Maker magics." - Andrew
"Metal... Maker Magic? Huh?" - Papi
"Oh! Well, in my world, we have a special type of magic that lets us create things out of materials. It comes in two forms, static and dynamic. Dynamic is the more interesting one as it lets us make like... wolves and stuff." - Andrew
"YOU CAN CREATE METAL WOLVES TO DO YOUR BIDDING?!" - Papi
"No, not yet, I'm barely even beginning to learn 'Cloth Make'. It'll probably take me ages to get this one up to a point where I am satisfied enough with it to begin learning another magic. The book I've got on it teaches how to make even silk and velvet, so I'm probably going to be working on it for a loooooong time. At least until I can make a better bed for myself." - Andrew.
"Oh! Once you get good enough to do silk, can I buy a pillow?" - Papi
"I'll see what I can do, but at the moment I don't really have anything to put in pillows." - Andrew
"In that case, just send me a pillowcase when you can! I was planning on just filling it with my feathers anyways!" - Papi
"You've got yourself a deal. I'll let you know once I learn how to do that. I'll warn you though, it'll probably be a little bit pricey~" - Andrew
"Silks relatively hard to come by. It'll be worth it. I'll put my all into learning blacksmithing. I'll make you a good sword in exchange, sound fair?" - Papi
"Sounds good to me!" - Andrew
"Sooooo uh... Small question that I've been a bit curious about. I've heard that Harpies are beautiful women with wings instead of arms and bird-like legs... how are you a blacksmith... exactly? Do you hold your blacksmithing hammer with your talons orrr?" - Andrew
"Oh, well, yes, we are all female, being forced to find husbands of other races, but we actually do have 'hands'. Sort of. We have a sole finger-like nub at the outermost bend in our wings, roughly where a human's hand would be. It functions sort of like a thumb. Can you imagine trying to blacksmith with your feet?! The only way I could see it being possible is if I flew, then I'd have to balance flapping my wings and the bobbing of my entire body while I swing the mallet down." - Papi
"Actually... that sounds a little fun..." - Papi
"Alright, so what about heat? Isn't it a little worrying to have your feathers so close to red hot metal?" - Andrew
"Not particularly, you see, Harpy feathers are surprisingly flame resistant. We sometimes use them for adornment in our armor." - Papi
"I see. Thanks for humoring me." - Andrew
"No no it's fine! I have a question for you if you don't mind... what's a Wizard guild like?" - Papi
"Well, to be honest, I don't really know. I only stepped foot inside the closest one for a short period of time recently... that was the first time I had ever been in one. I immediately went for the library, not really talking to anyone because I don't really do well around a lot of people." - Andrew
"Why not?" - Papi
"I'm just... shy I guess." - Andrew
AND OUR ANTISOCIAL WEIRDO IS BACK!
My god...
He touched grass for a single walk today!
Good for him!
