Story Start!

Devil Hunters for Public Safety would typically operate in pairs of 2 when out on patrol.

Their duties would have them patrol certain areas for devils who were too strong for freelance devil hunters to take down, or go to take down an assigned devil when it appeared. Seeing as Makima seemed to be a tad miffed with Himeno for the bill that got sent to her, which she did end up paying for, she was going to get her wages reduced to pay for the expenses that she had gotten for herself. She was also being told to pull a double patrol shift.

That didn't have anything to do with Naruto though, well it did, but Makima didn't punish him.

She had gained useful information about one of his abilities, that he was fast enough to cross countries in a matter of minutes if he felt like it. That was an extremely useful ability, because it meant he could be deployed anywhere in the world where a powerful devil appeared. It also had other meanings, but she didn't enlighten him about those meanings.

'Still, putting me with Kobeni isn't cool... well, at least she is somewhat skilled.' Naruto thought to himself as he looked at the skeletol corpses who were piled together and charging at Kobeni. Like an acrobat, she flipped and jumped over the corpse, running down it's body as the devil continued to charge towards Naruto. He extended his hand and caught the creature by the face, before breaking it's neck, ripping it's head off, and tossing it to the side as he jumped out of the way of it's collapsing body.

"I think this is the... Decay Devil?" Kobeni looked at the bottom of her shoes.

The leather of her shoes had decayed a little from her running on top of the creature, but her body had been okay. She looked at Naruto's hand, and saw that his flesh had decayed at the point of contact, with blood dripping from his palm onto the concrete.

"Decay Devil sounds about right." Naruto agreed, the point he touched had started to decay, but with the death of the Decay Devil, his hand had stopped decaying. Thankfully he had killed the creature as soon as he touched it, or that could have been a bit more problematic. It was a powerful ability, and the devil it belonged to was expecially powerful. It had managed to kill 19 people before it had been reported to Public Safety, including 4 Devil Hunters who had tried to take it down before the call went out.

Naruto's wound healed within moments though.

A powerful ability, but his regeneration was stronger than the decay ability, so even if he hadn't killed the devil right away, it wouldn't have been able to kill him. All it would have managed to do would be to cause him painful wounds, but nothing life threatening. He wiped his bloody hand on his jacket, and looked at his regenerated hand.

Even without Hybrid Immortality, it wasn't like he would be somebody who could be easily killed.

"So... it's worth at least 400,000 yen... right?"

"I would say even 500,000 yen maybe." Naruto agreed with Kobeni. Devil Hunters had a dangerous and high paying job that was almost purely performance based. Since they rarely ever lived passed the age of 30, it was pretty common for devil hunters to live in fancy apartments, spend a lot of their money as quickly as they earned it, and not value money overall. Well, that was according to his own guess.

Himeno lived in a nice apartment in a super nice building, and from what he had seen of Aki, he lived in an apartment that could fit 3 people and some animals with ease and comfort. Makima lived in a super nice apartment, nicer than Himeno and Aki's apartments combined.

"Good... even split between the two of us, that's good." Kobeni was a nervous wreck, but the amount that Naruto guessed was a comfort to her. That amount would replace the shoes she ruined, and leave her with a bunch.

Naruto sat down on a public bench.

"So, if you're so afraid, why did you join the Devil Hunters? I joined because this is the only job somebody as strong as me can do... but why did you join?" Naruto asked the cowardly 20 year old. She looked like she was debating answering the question. They wouldn't get paid until the devil collection came and cleaned up the body of the devil they slayed.

"... I have 8 sisters and 2 brothers... and my parents want me to help pay to send my older brother to college... so it was either becoming a sex worker, or a devil hunter..." Kobeni said with some level of shame, embarrassment, and fear. Naruto leaned forward and listened to that, with an anger boiling up inside of him. The dejected way Kobeni had said that filled him with fury. "Do... you have any family?"

"Apparently, neither of us have a family, because if your family loved you, they wouldn't have forced that shit on you. Your parents are horrible, nasty people." Naruto outright said it to her face. Kobeni stared at Naruto with a dumbfounded look. She seemed to be unable to believe what she had just heard him blurt out. "... seriously, fuck your family. Don't send them any of your money. You're 20 years old, move out on your own and tell your parents that if they want to send your brother through college, they can become sex workers and devil hunters." Naruto continued with his statement.

She was still stunned into silence.

-23 Minutes Later-

"Wow, this was a strong one, can't wait to see-"

"They make me use my car to drive them all around, and they never pay me for gas, and I always have to take my siblings to and from school whenever I have free time! I hate it!"

"What the?" The team of cleaners saw one of the Devil Hunters who had killed the Decay Devil crying her eyes out into the arms of the other member who was sitting on a bench, and patting her on the back. Naruto looked over to them with a deadpan look, telling them to just do their job and leave.

"I understand, your family is just the worst... there there." Naruto pat the emotional Kobeni on the back.

He could FEEL her tears and snot through his shirt, as she blew her nose into his clothes, and her tear stained face were rubbed into his chest. Naruto had opened a pandoras box when he insulted her family, and the second he did, she started to trauma dump all of her anger and frustrations to him. At first, he had felt the urge to go and kick her families collective asses, but now he was almost... trying not to laugh.

Kobeni's life was so horrible, that it was almsot comical how bad she had it.

She was the dumbest of all her siblings, so even though she wanted to go to college, her parents told her she wouldn't succeed, and to just help pay for her other siblings. She was afraid of death, but still took up a job where she had a 99% chance of dying before she turned 30 years old.

"There there, I'll protect you, from devils, from your family... we'll find you a nice apartment, away from your family. You won't have to see any of them again if you don't want to." Naruto comforted her. She was so emotional, that she was emotionally draining him. 'I wonder why Makima was out so late last night, and why she went to meet with Aki this morning?' Naruto wondered to himself.

Makima was in a very good mood overall last night, even when she got the bill from America concerning his and Himeno's impromtu trip.

"Really, you're really take care of me... really really... I don't ever have to see my family again?" Kobeni looked up at him.

Ew.

Kobeni was a cute girl, but she was not cute when she ugly cried. Snot and tears covered half of her face. She had the aura of a frightened rabbit normally. Naruto still smiled at her and rubbed the top of her head.

"Of course, you're a grown woman, your family doesn't get to take all your money, or tell you how to spend your time. I won't ever let a devil kill you while we're partners like this. I'm strong, so I can keep you safe whenever I'm here." Naruto promised her, lifting his arm to flex. Kobeni blew her nose into his chest again.

"Dank bou... fank you foooo mugh." Kobeni was now reduced to where she couldn't even speak properly.

"Sir, we just got a report from Miss Makima, she is sending you and her to deal with the Bear Devil. It's killed 2 civilian devil hunters who attacked it, and 4 civilians. She said you would be able to track it down." One of the cleaners approached Naruto with a radio on his vest that he had been speaking into.

"Bear Devil, that sounds strong!" Kobeni was freaked out.

A lot of people were afraid of bears.

"Got it, yeah, I'll be able to track it down." Naruto lifted Kobeni into his arms like a princess, before he jumped and landed on top of a small building. He jumped again and hopped from building to building, running along the side of some buildings. Kobeni screamed in his ear, right into his ear, as they reached over 100 feet in the air. He tightened his hold on her, and she started to calm down when he made no indication that she was going to get dropped. 'Kurama, mind gathering nature energy for me?'

"On it."

"Thanks." Naruto stated as he entered Sage Mode, with Kurama sitting still inside of him, his Tailed Beasts could gather and balance his Sage Mode for him. Kobeni was too freaked out to notice the change in his eyes. Naruto sensed everything in the country at that moment, and he pinpointed a large bear devil.

Naruto jumped between 4 buildings quickly, and dropped his Sage Mode before Kobeni saw it, now that he had the exact location of the devil.

It was moments before he saw it.

A large bear with white fur, and a head large enough to eat an entire car whole. The thing had a multitude of eyes all over it's body, and was extremely muscular.

"It's huge, how are we suppose to take it down!?" Kobeni screamed.

Right in his ear.

The bear was 40 feet tall, with multiple eyes, super thick arms and legs, and claws massive swords. The thing was demented looking. Naruto didn't respond to Kobeni's question, instead, he did a front flip.

The back of his foot hit the Bear Devil right in the center of the head, and the creature was knocked face first into the concrete. There was an extremely loud snapping sound as it's spine was severed by the kick, and Naruto followed up with a second kick to the head that cracked it's skull in half, spilling it's blood all over the concrete. He flipped forward and landed on top of the bear devil's back, and allowed Kobeni to get out of his arms and stand on the bear with him.

"You... killed it so easily."

"It's just a giant bear." Naruto stated as he pat his foot on it. He had seen bigger bears in the Forest of Death AND on the back of Genbu the island turtle. Giant animals were his bread and butter, and could be easily killed by even a Genin with a few well placed kicks to the head. A devil without some kind of special power, who only had size and raw strength as it's power, wasn't something that he needed even more than a second or two to take down. "I told you, I'm strong, and because I'm strong, as long as you work with me, you're safe." Naruto assured Kobeni with a grin.

She looked at him with stars in her eyes.

-Later-

"Oh my." Makima said.

Kobeni was latched onto Naruto's side.

"Please Miss Makima, I want Naruto to be the only partner I work with... I only want to do patrols with Naruto." Kobeni requested as she held onto Naruto like a life line. She had her arms wrapped around him, and wasn't allowing him to escape her grasp. Naruto had given the report of the Decay and Bear Devils getting slain.

"Well, between the two of you, you're getting paid 450,000 yen each for the kills." Makima ignored the request for partnering up. "Good work today you two, oh, and Naruto... I got a report of a Public Safety Devil Hunter running across buildings." Makima told him.

"That was me."

"Try and stick to the street, and not the buildings. Several people reported you as a Devil at first, thinking you weren't human. We can't keep getting false devil reports." Makima told him, since she had gotten close to 10 calls about a super fast devil parkouring across buildings at super speed. Naruto had 100% been the cause of that, and he had raised a lot of false alarms. "If you're going to run fast, run faster so that nobody seens you." Makima told him.

"Kaaaaaay." Naruto stated.

"Also, Kobeni, your request is denied at this time."

"Nooooooo." Kobeni whispered into Naruto's body.

"She's gotten a little attached to me." Naruto explained to the confused Makima. The devil woman was confused by Kobeni's attachment that came out of nowhere.

"Well, at least let him move in with me in an apartment." Kobeni requested.

"Also denied."

"Nooooooo." Kobeni whispered in horror as her protector was taken from her. She refused to let go of Naruto.

It took 5 minutes to pry Kobeni off of Naruto that day.
