Hello Readers! I'm Back!
Life has been crazy since I last posted and I'm sorry I didn't post sooner. But I couldn't pass up the chance to post a new story on Paw Patrol with today being the 10th Anniversary of the Paw Patrol franchise. Hard to believe it has been 10 years though. If you want to know what I've been up to send me a PM and I'll let you know. But let's get to this long-awaited story. This is part three of the "Good Cop Gone Bad" trilogy.
This takes place about 2 months after the events of Paw Patrol: Collision Course. The wedding of our two couples, Skye/Chase and Everest/Marshall. They have been planning and the double wedding is happening in two months. But something is stirring in a different city on a beautiful summer day...
Prologue:
The sun rose over a crystal blue sea on a beautiful, late summer morning. The wind blew a refreshing cool breeze out from the sea. The wind rustled the grass and the birds chirped to greet the sun. A cloud drew across the sun and suddenly the air was filled with a low rumbling sound. On a nearby road, the sounds of large vehicles filled the air. Suddenly HEMTT military troop trucks came barreling into a city, Barkingburg. 12 trucks headed for the castle of Barkingburg and then 12 other trucks went into town. As they went through the town, they all split apart and headed for an exit from Barkingburg. There were 6 exits from the city and each was blocked by two huge transport trucks. Suddenly the sides of the trucks opened, armed troops flooded out and tore into the city. What was a peaceful morning quickly turned sour as screams of horror and pain filled the air. A little white dog in a pink tiara snicked as she looked out over the walls of the palace and watched the siege of Barkingburg.
"Queen Sweetie, your new subjects are arriving" a low voice rumbled behind the white pup. A hint of satisfaction in his voice.
"perfect" she said with a malicious smile and turned to head into the castle.
In the town, a family of four and their pup were driven out of their home by the new queen's forces.
"Let Go of Me, You Jerk!" a young girl screamed as a soldier threw her out of her house and into her older brother's arms. He glared at them as they ushered them away from their home
"Keep moving, leave everything behind!" a soldier ordered the family
"What do you want with us!?", the father demanded shielding his family from the soldiers
"Your new queen wished to address her subjects" the soldier explained with a deceiving smile
"What queen, we have the Princess and the Earl to lead our kingdom" the mother said oblivious to what the solder meant.
"What did you do with the princess and the royal family!" a young boy demanded grabbing and yanking at the soldier's arm
The soldier looked down at the boy, picked him up, and threw him to the ground landing 6 feet away.
"Conner!" the father said and rushed over to him, but the soldier blocked the father from getting to his son. However, he could not block Connor's young sister, Emily, and their dog, Scout. Emily ran under the guards' legs and tripped him causing him to fall on the ground.
"Connor, are you alright!?" Emily asked as she got up to him
"I'm ok, go back to Mom now" Connor orders
"No way!" she protested but then she was lifted into the air
"You little brats, how dare you attack us!" the soldier screamed then slams Emily into the ground and proceeded to kick her in the stomach and beat her.
"Emily! NO!" Connor gets up and grabs the soldier's arm off Emily trying to save her. However, he is grabbed by a different soldier and is then subjected to the same fate.
Meanwhile, two other soldiers are holding back their parents, protesting and struggling to get to their children. Suddenly the soldier that was beating on little Emily screams in agony. He looks down to see Scout, the family's red Labrador, biting the soldier's leg and drawing blood.
"Argh, you stupid mutt!", the soldier growled and punched the pup in the head, grabbed him, and threw him away about 6 feet.
"Scout!" Both Connor and Emily screamed. Suddenly The kids screamed in pain as the soldiers beat upon the children. Scout tried to crawl to the children but collapsed from pain in his side. Prone and unable to move, Scout watched in a state of rage as they continued to abuse Connor and Emily for no reason. After a few more minutes they finally stopped, picked them up, and threw the young children at their parents who then caught them. Scout struggled up, ignoring the pain, and rushed to protect his family.
The guards started to walk toward the family, "Don't you dare come any closer, or else I will attack you" Scout threatened
The guards laughed heartily as they heard the pup make a threat. "What could a small runt like you do?" the two guards mocked as they continued closer to the family.
Scout grinned and readied himself to spring his trap. Once they were within a few feet of him, he glanced at Emily and Connor who nodded. Scout charged at Emily, jumped up on Emily, who acted as a springboard, and Connor bent down to act as a platform.
"Van Jensen triple strike" the three called out
Then Emily launched Scout up who then sailed up above the guards. At the same time, Emily and Connor charged the guards whose focus was on Scout above them. As Scout fell towards the guards, the kids then slammed into the mid-sections guards and Scout landed on them scoring their faces with his nails. The Guards both fell, rearing in pain on the ground, spitting vulgar fury.
"Connor, Emily, Scout run and get out of the city" their father shouted
"No way Dad, we are not leaving!" Connor stated defiantly
"Listen to your father! Please get out of here! Please do as we ask, you will be safer out of Barkingburg." their mother ordered
"But mommy we…" Emily started
"No but's young lady, do as I say. RUN!", she screamed as the guards started to get up. The trio looked back and gasped.
Connor grabbed Emily by the hand, picked her up onto his back, and he took off with Scout right behind them. Both sprinted as fast as they could to get away.
"Sir, the children are getting away!" one of the soldiers announced
"Leave them be, they are not important, let's get these two to her highness." The soldiers said as the children ran away.
The three ran past the empty trucks that the soldiers had just come from. They faced one soldier but the trio did their special attack and the children were able to get past him. The three ran for what seemed like miles until they no longer could. Connor then staggered and looked behind them. They ended up on top of a mountain plateau a few miles away from Barkingburg. Connor, heaving out breaths from exhaustion, slowly dropped to one knee and let his sister off his back. Scout, also completely exhausted, staggered to a stop beside the kids.
Fires raged in Barkingburg, the smoke darkened the sky and an unnatural yellowish glow came from the city. Screams and gunfire filled the sky with a crackle in the distance. Conner sighed in defeat as he looked over his home, a great day ruined.
"Connor… I'm scared" Emily's voice quivered behind the two, causing Connor's attention to snap back to the moment,
Connor turned to his little sister, who sat in the fetal position on the ground beside him, he knelt beside her and placed his hand on her shoulder. He forced out a smile for her,
"There is no need to be scared Em, you have me and Scout here with you" Connor said trying to sound hopeful to hide his doubts.
"Don't worry Emily, I won't let anything happen to you or Connor" Scout promised
"But what about mom and dad?" She asked looking behind towards Barkingburg.
Finally, Connor sighed in defeat, "I don't know sis. I do have a feeling that they will be ok though" Connor said
Emily nodded but Scout could hear that he only said that to not upset Emily. Like Connor, he assumed that the kid's parents are more than likely in pain and suffering under that vile pup's rule.
"Come on you two, we need to keep moving" Scout said.
10-year-old Connor nodded and took the hand of his 6-year-old sister, and they kept walking. They walked on for hours. Stopping here and there so Connor could pick up his sister and carry her on his back or let her walk. After about 3 hours the group stopped, and Scout did some hunting. He was familiar with hunting as Connor and his dad, Hunter, used to go hunting all the time before all of this happened.
Scout went alone to find food so Connor could stay with Emily. Scout dove into a hedge and struggled through, emerging into an open clearing. Around him, he could hear the chatter of birds and small animals. He heard the rustling of the leaves and branches from the breeze outside the forest. Scout looked around in the sunlit clearing, in one corner he saw what looked like berries and went over to them. When he got closer he discovered that they were in fact berries. He sniffed them, they did not smell right to him. However, he knew that he could not eat berries normally, he gave another sniff and suddenly he recognized the scent as blueberries. Shayla, the kid's mother, loved blueberries and there were always some in the family's home. He shoved his head into the bush and wrestled with it until he managed to bite off a large branch. With a grunt, Scout picked it up, threw it on his back, and carried it back to the kids.
When he got back to the kids and they saw them with the branch, they were surprised. "Wow, great find Scout!" Connor said happily, "you didn't eat any did you?" Connor added suddenly serious
"No, I know I could die from eating them," he said knowingly "I got them for you two" Scout added with a smile.
"But Scout, you need to eat as well" Emily said concerned
"I will, I'm going to hunt for something. Hopefully, I get a squirrel" he said with a smirk. Emily gaged and gave a disgusted face, causing Connor to laugh heartily.
"Well, I know you've taken down bigger than that bud" Connor said smiling at his red lab pup.
Scout smiled and dove back into the brush to hunt. He did not have to look for long as he soon was stalking a squirrel within 10 minutes. He managed to stay downwind from the small creature and got about 4 feet away from it when suddenly it darted away
"Shoot!" Scout growled annoyed by a sound that scared his meal away. He looked through the trees and saw this bright green object. He dashed through the trees, dodging branches, jumping over logs and roots of trees. After a few moments, he came out of the trees and saw a road and he looked up and saw a road sign. Excitement paused through him, causing him to forget his hunt and he dashed back to the kids.
He burst through the brush, getting a slight squeal from Emily and a defensive stance from Connor.
"Scout, thank goodness. You gave us a scare. What's up bud?" Connor asked worry in his voice
"I-I-I found… I found a-a… a road" Scout managed to heave out with each breath as his chest burned.
Connor gasped in delight and Emily jumped in joy. "Where is it Scout?" Emily asked looking around in excitement.
"That way" Scout pointed behind him through the forest
"It's decided then, we go through the forest" Connor said
"We need to hurry though; we are losing daylight" Scout said as he looked up at the sun as it had started to set.
"Alright," Connor said turning to Emily "Hop on Em" Connor gestured to his sister to get on his back. Emily smiled and got on her big brother's back. And Scout led them through the forest following his old scent trail back the way he came. It did take longer as the kids struggled to get through some parts of the forest.
At one point Connor misplaced a step and staggered causing a branch to scratch Emily's arm, which started to bleed. Connor, being a junior wilderness explorer, was able to rip off the sleeve of his shirt and make a bandage for his sister. After that delay, the group pushed on.
After about an hour the group made it to the road. Connor looked up at a green road sign. The high read:
Edmonds – 45
Lafayette – 25
Philippians Bay – 10
"Well, it looks like we are going to Philippians Bay" Connor said and Scout nodded.
There was a growling sound and both Connor and Scout became defensive, suddenly there was a snort, and both looked at Emily. She had fallen asleep on Connor's back. Connor smiled and moved her carefully so that he had her sitting in the crook his arm and her head resting on his shoulder. Connor found a flat rock to sit on by the road and he looked at his sister's arm.
He slowly took off the bandage and found it covered in blood. He ripped off his other sleeve and tied it on her arm. "She has lost some blood; we need to get her help. I fear the cut is bigger than I had thought" Connor stated concern clearly in his voice
"Let's get going then, I'll keep an ear out for cars to give us a ride." Scout stated
Connor nodded and picked up his sister and they stared down the road towards Philippians Bay.
Sweetie has made her move on Barkingburg. The Paw Patrol is going to be getting some visitors in the coming days. How will this affect the double wedding? Will Sweetie attack the Paw Patrol next? All these questions and more as we start off this new adventure.
