Author's Note: Guess who's baaaaack? 10 days until Christmas and I remembered I have a story to update!
There have been only three characters who have had more than one chapter in Mishaps with Mistletoe: Caitlin Snow, Kara Danvers… and now Daniel Sousa.
Wouldn't have it any other way ;)
It was hard to keep track of time on a space ship.
Days flowed into weeks and spread across months. With no setting or rising sun, the only way the _ could keep track of time was by the analogue clock that hung in the main room of the ship.
Daniel did his best. He kept a calendar in his bunk and one of the first things he did each morning was check off the date. But that turned into such a routine that he stopped noticing what the day even was, and so was completely taken aback when he realized that he'd just checked off December 24th.
It was Christmas Eve.
Flabbergasted that the time could have gone so fast (and scrambling to know what to do with the knowledge), Daniel sat in his bunk for a good fifteen minutes longer than normal. Tomorrow would be, not just Christmas, but his and Daisy's first Christmas as a couple.
Daniel was still a little abstracted by the time he made it into the makeshift dining area on the ship to get himself some "space breakfast," as Cora occasionally called it. He'd just finished brewing coffee for himself in the crew, when a sleepy, rumpled young woman wandered into the room.
"Morning," she mumbled, making a beeline for the cozy spot between his arms and chest. Smiling, Daniel wrapped her in a hug. He was a naturally early riser, up before the sun most mornings (when there was a sun, anyway).
Daisy, night-owl, morning-grumpy Daisy, was most definitely not.
Daniel didn't mind. His girlfriend was usually tough as nails, and getting to see her all soft and drowsy was a treat he never got tired of.
"Sleep well?" Daniel asked, resting his chin on the top of her head.
"Great," Daisy mumbled, snuggling closer. "Didja make coffee?"
He lifted an arm from her back, close enough to the counter to be able to snag her usual mug. "Here you go."
As she took a seat, Daniel leaned against the counter. He considered telling her about the date, about how they'd let the time slip away from them, but something held him back.
He was starting to get the inklings of a plan. Not something too involved- Daisy wouldn't like that- but enough to at least make her look back on tomorrow with a special sort of remembrance.
"Daniel?" Daisy asked, raising her eyebrow at him over her coffee mug. "Why are you smiling?"

Daniel awoke on Christmas morning feeling like a little kid again. There were no presents under the tree (there wasn't even a tree), no cocoa and molasses cookies, no snow sitting in fluffy piles on the windowsill. In fact, he didn't even have a gift for Daisy, which he hoped wouldn't bother her too much. They hadn't had a chance to celebrate birthdays or holidays as a couple yet, so Daniel could only hope that his instinct was correct and Daisy wouldn't be offended he didn't have a present for her.
His suspicions that none of the crew, much less his girlfriend, knew what day it was were confirmed when he joined everyone that morning and didn't receive a single Christmas wish. Undeterred, Daniel began to bide his time. He had the supplies, now all he needed was the right moment.
It came just after lunch, when the _ found themselves facing a gorgeous nebula.
"Woulda look at that," Daniel murmured, coming up behind Daisy and tucking an arm around her waist. "It's red and green. Convenient timing."
Daisy laughed. "What, is it Christmas or something?" she asked jokingly, before her expression faded. "Wait, what day is it today?"
Daniel reached into his pocket and pulled out what he'd been hiding there all morning: a sprig of one of the plants kept around the ship to try and improve the _'s mental health.
"Merry Christmas, Daisy," he said quietly, holding the sprig up.
Daisy looked at him blankly, before snorting. "Is that supposed to be mistletoe? Oh you dork."
Still smiling widely, she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him in for a kiss. Daniel kissed her back, too pleased by the outcome to regret the fact that his romantic gesture had somehow still ended up with her teasing him.
Author's Note: They make my heart happy hehehheheeeee :D
