I was lucky to be as old as I was, and that I was used to the scent of Bella's blood, because if I had been any younger or had just been a passing Nomad, I would have frenzied. Edward flew past me, not bothering to catch the door as it closed and causing it to shatter. It also took me about half a second to assess the situation. James, lunging at a crimson-covered body, a single, pale arm reaching up to defend it as if it would do anything against the predator that had it in it's clutches. I was half a step behind Edward as he charged at James. He tackled the other man into the floorboards so hard that a crater formed in the centre of the room. I used Edward as a springboard as he kicked James across the room. I landed on James' shoulders, locking my ankles around his neck to keep myself in place. I grabbed his head, digging my fingers into his skull so that it cracked. My eyes burnt green, focusing all my power into showing James his worst nightmares. "This is what you deserve." I snarled at him. "For abusing my daughter, for hurting my sister, for all the hurt you've caused." I could see in James' eyes that I was definitely getting to him. "You will die, knowing you have failed, and no one will ever mourn your worthless excuse of an existence again!" James' head finally came off, and it flew across the room. James' form crumpled underneath me, his body becoming limp. I felt light against my cold skin and turned to see Jasper and Emmett had started the fire. I grabbed James' jacket and hauled him over my shoulder. I kicked his head into the flames and then tossed James into the flames.
I stared into the flames for a couple moments before turning and flashing over to Edward and Carlisle. I quickly assessed the situation. Bella was badly injured, but that wasn't the main thing I was worried about…it was the clear bite mark on Bella's palm. "There may be a chance." Carlisle stated. I could only assume they were talking about what to do about the bite…and the Venom.
"What?" Edward breathed.
"See if you can suck the Venom out. The wound is fairly clean."
"Will that work?" Alice demanded, though she instantly went searching for an answer.
"I don't know, but we have to hurry."
"Carlisle…" Edward said shakily. "I don't know if I can do that…"
"I can do it." I said.
"Are you sure you can handle it?" Carlisle asked me. I nodded.
"I'm not tempted by Human blood." I knelt next to Bella. "She's not my Amhránaí. I'm old enough to resist." I lifted Bella's arm. "I am so sorry Bella." I muttered. I covered the bite with my own lips. Taking a deep, unnecessary breath through my nose, I sunk my teeth into the skin and started to suck. At first, there was barely any blood as the Venom had started to heal the wound to prevent this from happening. Then, I deepened my bite, and it was like the floodgates had opened. Bella's blood was warm, the Venom a sharp contrast to it. I felt the small itch in the back of my mind telling me that I should just continue to drink, no one would blame me for it, I'm a Vampire, I haven't touched Human blood in my entire 600 years of existence. The world fell away and I was tethered to Bella. I pulled away, however, when Bella's blood became tainted.
"Is it all out?" Carlisle asked me. I licked my blood-stained lips.
"It's clean." I breathed. "I can…I can taste the morphine."
"Bella?" Bella merely groaned in response. "Is the fire gone?"
"Yes." Bella muttered. "Thank you Edward…" I get Bella was delirious, I'm going to let her believe it was Edward.
"Bella?"
"What?"
"Where is your mother?"
"In Florida." Bella muttered angrily. "He tricked me, Edward, he watched out videos. Alice…the video…he knew you…Alice, he knew where you came from…I smell gasoline…?"
"It's time to move her." Carlisle said softly after he had finished giving Bela a quick and simple, temporary fix to her wounds.
"No…" Bella groaned. "I want to sleep…"
"You can sleep, sweetheart." Edward crooned, leaning towards Bella. "I'll carry you." Edward did so, moving slower than any Vampire ever had before. "Sleep now, Bella…" Carlisle, Edward and Alice left to the car to help Bella, while Emmett and Jasper approached me.
"You ok?" Emmett asked me. I lifted my arm, using the back of my hand to try and clear the blood from my face. I caught my own eyes in the shattered mirror glass that was scattered around. My eyes, which had been gold for so many years…were crimson.
"Yeah." I muttered, looking away. "I'm fine."
